I have never had wheel hoop unless I'm in 1st with cold tires.Also you need to turn off traction control or it cuts power big time if it feels any spin.
Hey Jay! You should get a rear motor mount to help with wheel hop. Check out the Hasport mounts! I've heard tunes help with it as well (I'm not tuned personally), but from what I've read on the forums, Hondata definitely helps with traction in the lower gears.
If you want to help mitigate wheel hop I highly suggest the Perrin Motor Mount inserts or Whiteline rear motor mount insert if you want less NVH. They’re less than $30 and use the stock rear motor mount. They just make it more rigid

Wheel hop issue is solved by changing out the rear engine mount to a Hasport rem.
Changed all my mounts to hasport billets car rides way better night and day difference for $509
Get a hasport rear motor mount to solve some of the wheel hop. I prefer the 70a race mount but you will get some dash rattle during start up not so much while driving.
The Whiteline inserts are good also

In my old SRT-4 replacing the stock motor mounts with solid, dog bone mounts worked wonders in eliminating the wheel hop. I don't know shit about the Type-R but I would assume it would help.
Same concep applies to the type r as well. Stiffer dogbone mount should help with wheel hop. You may just get more NVH depending on the duro
That torque steer was a real thing though haha! Had a buddy with a stage 3 Mopar srt4 and it was a freaking blast!!

Had a 350whp Saab 9-3 and it torque steered soooo damn bad lol. It was pretty heavy so I think that actually helped some tbh.

On my CTR I had PS4S 265/45 9.5 with hondata traction control and had zero wheel spin. The stock tires and wheels the CTR comes with is a massive joke.

People sook about fwd and I admit it sucks drag racing from a dig. But I really love the feed back I get in my ek without power steering. I know exactly when and what wheel breaks traction. It's awesome on a track

Stock tires on the type r aren’t that great. Have to modulate the throttle, it isn’t as easy as an awd platform. Tracked my gr Sti with coils and whiteline parts, I feel the stock type r out performs it on the corners.
I upgraded to the Michelin pilot sport 4s tires, got rid of the wheel hop

Why u always have gear grind every gear?
After 11k miles, I am starting to miss 3rd gear in my STI too. Don’t know if its me or the gearbox. I don’t remember missing when the car was new. Maybe I’m just shifting too fast.
Back in the day when I got a new STI I noticed that too around 8k+ miles, I think its just the tranny still being broken in, i stopped missing 3rd after 15k+ miles and read that the tranny breaks in around that mileage too and the turbo breaks in around 10k miles too.

@Retro Modrn My car was a 2021 and I started experiencing the gear crunch at less than 10k miles. Fucking sucks because it really is a great driving car, minus that flaw.
@Retro Modrn Never took it in. Its a common issue with these cars. Apparently changing the trans fluid to AC Delco or a different brand remedies the issue. Car is gone now, so it doesn’t matter anymore.

They are very comfortable. Softer cushions than the STI and more supportive.

Stock tires. Continental SportContact 6. Better tires will help.
In my experience better tires make it worse. They are grippier. Essentially the tires are grabbing and jumping and once that first jump(hop) happens the power train continues the movement as everything begins to sway and find the easiest way to break something free. Torque Dampeners used to be a bandaid for this but the best thing you can do is get some engine mounts (from my experience). Don't keep wheel hoping tho. Idk how stout the components of the R are but wheel hop DESTROYS axles and transmissions. If u feel it GET OUT of the throttle. Ask anybody who owned an SRT4.
You will never beat the sound of the boxer engine , its rawness and stylish looks walks all over the s3 everyday of the week , the type r doesn’t even fit the same category

sorry i'm a noob wrx owner. What do you mean when you say "STI Misses third gear"? like miss the gear shift entirely? Or miss it as in doesn't time going from second to third gear well?
It means the driver failed to insert the transmission into third gear.

@@danielmendoza7521 sometimes it feels like you have shift your stick to a gear but you actually miss it when you drop your clutch. it usually happens when you still have your shifter rubber bushings
STI are known for 3rd gear lock outs! If you own one you know what I mean!
When you miss a gear it’s like tripping in a sprint race! You just restart the race to get an honest result!
Not as simple to get a gear into place when it’s locking out regardless of experience

It would be interesting to see how the STI vs. Type R race would be from a lower roll speed. STI is known to suffer at higher speeds due to the gearing and power band.
And the fact that the car has a lot of drivetrain loss. All wheel has to apply all the engine power to four wheels vs just two
Tune and a downpipe and you are in the 11s on the S3, ask me how I know 😉 I work for Honda and I have 2 co-workers with FBO Type Rs, one on HKS and another with PRL and still can’t hit 12s. 🤷♂️
Yeah, I love how easy it is to make power on the S3/Golf R platform. I drove my buddys S3 in an older video. Amazing platform. As for the Type-R, I don't think I'll be taking it drag racing anytime soon but although it does well at circuit tracks once the issues are addressed. The STI should be in the low/mid 10's in the near future.

I had a deposit on an fk8 type r when they first came out but ended up cancelling it and after a couple cars ended with a 2015 sti but still often think about getting a type r as do love em

A stage 2 s3 would destroy both other cars with equal mods. That 2 liter is insane and responds to modifications really well.

Unless you have a built block you dont even have a chance at stepping to a stage 2 s3 or Golf R. I did the opposite. Swapped out my S3 Prestige (after only 8 months) for a 2020 STI. S3 seemed a bit faster, but not as much of a driver's.

I used to own a fk8 type r. It shouldn't have any wheel hop at all on a roll. at least not that bad. I'm curious if you had stock tires on. They're only good for hot weather. Even if the road is only slightly wet or not up to the temp, the tires will slip and have way less grip. Or probably need a driver mod😂 jp haha

Current FK8 owner here and I was thinking he might just be referring to wheel spin. Wheel hop should only occur when launching from a dead stop.

This video confused me, I am at work so I did watch this without sound lol, I know these were rolling races but as far as I'm aware the S3 is the fastest car there, I know it also depends on driver but like the type r does 0-100 in what 5.8? and s3 (that particular model the 8v) does 4.7 or 4.5ish? the sti does around 4.9/5? the type r shoulda lost to both and the s3 shoulda smoked everyone, am confused lmao.
Type r struggles with traction due to it being fwd
Type R is a hard to launch FWD car (hard to get a traction). The 5.7 sec 0-60 is mainly due to the fact that it's wasting probably 2 secs trying to get a traction. Rolling race is totally a different scenario. Type R screams power from gear 3 on. Should beat both on rolling race with equally skilled drivers.

stock vs stock the type R is .5 slower at the 1/4 ET and only trap 0.1mph faster than the S3 in the 1/4. Tha gap looks like 7mph+ of diference 🤔 idk man
The Type-R was never a drag racing car. You're more than welcome to do your own tests between a bone stock Type-R and S3 and post it on the internet instead on bench race. How about those circuit track times stock vs stock...

I've driven the type r and I never experienced wheel hop, like at all. I was so impressed that it didn't feel like a front wheel drive car. On the other hand, it didn't feel like a RWD car either. The type r is a great car, and it has the finesse and maturity lacking on the sti. But when I hopped back to my sti I quickly realized the rawness of the Subaru. And unlike the type r, which is easy to drive fast in, the sti requires skills to drive fast and to keep momentum. That's why I love my sti.

pretty loose testing, I guess all cars are pretty even based on what I saw, the sti may be the fastest?

@@HarveyPVP the numbers indicate the type r is faster. Do the research. From a dig the sti will get off the line due to it awd, however, trap speed indicates type r is faster esp on the top end. From a roll type r beats it every day
@@mrspencer72 you are right, I was only looking at the 2020 version of the STI which has 310 hp compared to 306 hp from a type r but the type r is lighter and has more torque. I still like the STI better though.
@@HarveyPVP the sti is a good car and the awd does have its advantages esp if you live in a snowy area.

Civic type R, is simply not good from a dig, but I don't drag !! Just sayin' !!
Japanese motoring show "Best Motoring" had an EN subbed race between a stock Civic Type R FK8 and a WRX STI VA, though it is a JDM Type S with the EJ207.
As expected, stock for stock the Civic is 100kg lighter and has a 12hp advantage to the STI and ends up being faster. However when the 2nd segment where a lightly tuned Type R against a lightly tuned STI, the Subaru easily takes the win.

Yea but who lightly mods these days??? Lol...once you start it’s hard to stop at a light tune. If these were both moderately to stage 3 the CTR gaps the STi bad 💯📠

It was some chick.
They were racing from a roll, negating the traction advantage the STI has over the Type R - from a roll the Type R wins every day. It's in-gear acceleration is actually fairly impressive. The STI should beat it every time in a 1/4 mile race from a dig though.
