Just got a 2020 championship white. Absolutely in love. The power really surprised me. Also, everyone complains about lack of noise, which I’ll admit, it’s not super loud or crazy sounding, but, I honestly don’t mind the noises it’s making. Going FBO, e85 and custom tune in the next couple months.
Type R is on another level with the quality of it's powerband.
I’m so proud to own one.

He has every upgrade but a front mount intercooler. The cars heatsoak after one pull on the stock intercooler. That’s the most important part gotta let airflow get in better, sittin on top of the engine won’t do much good as far as getting air quickly in there and out. I just know a aftermarket intercooler is a must.

No way that the wrx got 300 whp..My 2019 STI stage 3 pull out 304 WHP on 91and my mods are: Full catback,downpipe,up pipe,wastegate,headers,turbo inlet and CAI,tgv delete,stock turbo and intercooler. I run 12.7 1/4 miles and typer R run low 14..That wrx got no more then 300 crank hp. Find a 2018/2020 stock STI buddy!

The Type R is faster but I’d rather own the Wrx. Such a nice car.
Never been down with subaru reliability and I've driven a WRX didn't like the heavy clutch. AWD is nice though.

These type Rs have so much top end for a four banger the top speed is a 173mph. You may lose the 0-60 races but you’ll reel them in on the top end,
wrxs have no top end.
Edit: that is the sexiest wrx hatch I’ve ever seen and now I’m looking for one.
What is your source for 173? Have "only" seen test results that say 168,169 and 170. Taking my R out of storage this week. My modified bugeye and supercharged TA can't compete with the R.

Edit: the channel that did the run is called calvins Motorsport.
@@jukeboxzero1 there's a couple of articles saying when they ran the type R it ran a few ticks higher ranging from 174 -180 mph
@@jukeboxzero1 Based off the OEM gear ratios, the maximum mechanical top speed is 178mph.

@@ImJcoll absolutely haha, he even mentioned engine knocks and engine runs “pretty smooth, although it has clogged injectors” those are pretty much his exact words. The engine obviously is not running smoothly yet people and people are acting surprised that the car got gapped
Damn an ej wrx with 140k miles and modified is impressive. I have a FA20 wrx with just over 20k miles and “stage 2” on e30. Gives me hope for some longevity. Nice video bro. Type R is a beast.

@@ZFA1738 my tuner is anthony ambot I highly recommend he tuned my car 3x its been nothing but smiles. I highly suggest a different top mount i now pull through all gears when switching my top mount. its crazy i reach 100 pretty quick but you wont regret e60 wish i done it sooner its super fun and faster than most cars on the street
@@Victor-vq9ks I was tuned by ambot when I was stock and on e30 but decided to give mtuned a try when I went stage 2. I think I’ll get a tmic upgrade soon then switch back to ambot. Thanks man. I have fun with my car too.

WRX wins the sound competition by a mile lol Race an STI or golf R next, I'm pretty sure you'd still win, the Type R is fast!
It'll have trouble with the new MK8 Golf R. 0-60 in 4 seconds, only 0.3 slower than a RS3.
If he's racing a dsg golf r, he'll have trouble. Also if the golf r is tuned, he'll definitely have trouble

The MK8 Golf R makes 315hp stock but runs 0-60 in 4 seconds.

@@Naized if your on stock turbo the ETS TMIC is plenty! The ETS is also probably like twice the size of the OEM TMIC so you’ll definitely get less heat soak. I run a 4” TMIC on my MS3. I’m FBO on E30.

Yeah, seems like the older wrxs are not too fast. My 17wrx on e30 gaps them all the time and they don’t believe I’m just on e30 with no bolt ons 😂.
Most likely cuz his gears was a lot longer. Just cuz someone has 300 whp doesn’t mean they’ll win against someone else who has 295whp. Every car puts down power to the ground differently depending on tune, suspensions, wheels, etc.

@@asianken9286 true dat. Depends on weight as well. But in reality this guy is not pushing 300 whp. Both cars are similar in weight but way different transmission. It was claimed that it was full bolt ons when right away the wrx guy said he didn’t have a intercooler. The wrx guy is clueless which I’m not surprised. You run into a lot of people that lie or just misunderstand the meaning of things and go with it. especially wrx guys that buy into the hype and think they have a fast car with just a an intake or catback exhaust for example lol.

tbh, the WRX top mounts arent that bad.. Like he said in the Vid, I dont think he's making enough power to need an IC upgrade yet.. Dont bolt on WRX's from this era make like 250whp? It seemed like if anything his clutch was slipping... That or he cant shift..

Couple things here, civics have a longer and more linear power band and that bov on the subie is messing with the compression timing. Although bovs sound cool, better to get a recirculating diverter valve that goes back to the engine instead of to atmosphere

That's a lot of money (and interest) extra for the Type R just to win a couple races against lightly modified cars. I suppose its worth it if you put all your time into a car though.

The price of a Type R I can get a used C5 Z06 plus mods, but that's just me cause I'm a muscle guy. Have an SI for a daily and building a Turbo Ls Z31 at the moment. Type R's are pretty cool though

The day that my wife got her 2024 outback wilderness I had a kid with a grey civic type R try to run me at a set of lights same as this one. The light changed and then so did his smile on his face as the soccer mom wagon pulled him. I'm sure a lot was driver error cause he was just a young guy driving a standard transmission, but no excuses right? I'm a Subaru tech and I was a Honda tech before moving to Subaru. I love both manufactures and I was surprised myself that the outback pulled like that, I've drive a few Type R's and they are quick, but the cvt vs 6 spd is a hard matchup.
Stock type R: 316bhp
His WRX: 260bhp
He has bolt ons but limited with that stock turbo. Plus the reducer on the air intake is shocking, he should have stayed standard airbox and would have a lot less knock.
Next up I wanna see the Type R run a flex fuel FA20 WRX.

@@ethanguzman3963 Really? I have an 04 STi, I am currently stock, and I have recently ran 3 different Civic Type R's, and walked all 3 of them. 2 of them were from 40 rolls, and one never wanted to do anything less than an 80 roll.
flex fuel FA20 WRX as a stage 2 would murder the Type R. Shit, the earlier model US STi's walk the Type R. It's only the newer STi's that lose. The newer STi's don't pull like the older ones do.

I just got a 2022 civic si last week and i found your channel like 2 weeks ago and I’ve been watching a ton of your 10th gen si videos, I watched most of them for the si now lol so I’ve been watching your type r videos and dude I just got my si and it’s a great car but man you make want want a type r now!! Lol my buddy has a 398whp type r tuned by derek robinson and that things nuts too lol You got some awesome builds man, and Thankyou for all the info on the 10th gen, definitely helped me a lot on learning what mods to do first.

I want to see him race a turbo 8th or 9th gen or RSX.. Something in the 400whp range. Something he could lose to, but since he has the torque advantage, I think it would be a perfect race. Its a shame I dont have my Merc Racing 1900 kit put on my 02' RSX yet Or id Drive over to race him.. My 06 Type S wouldnt even be close as I can take bolt on GTR's in my 06.. I sadly don't have any maps that could lower the HP to around 350-400whp... My 93 low boost map makes 450whp and 370tq.
im shur itll happen soon, with my custom tune i beat a fbo stage 2 accord so it should be a good ass race between me and cam
@@edryan1845 They honestly need to make a straight 2.0t Accord swap for the 10th gen Si... My neighbor found an Accord at the Junkyard and got the 2.0 motor and trans with the turbo and everything for $2K(had like 35k miles on it I think).. He did the swap himself.. Hasport sent him some prototype mounts, and he used the Accord ECU. The wiring and sensors were the hard part he said. I think he still has some dash issues and electronic issues, but the car runs amazing and its making like 320whp. He had it dyno tuned right after cuz it was running like crap when he tried some base maps.
@@JonHop1 honda actually made the crate 2.0 motor available for everybody so you can buy a "better" version of my motor from honda directly. im shur soon youll see it getting put into si's and a few people i know of buying them for s2k's

From a low roll yes.. 50-60 rolls not so much.. But the WRX has a smaller turbo than the Type R and hits peak torque earlier as well so it will pull on a Type R.. This is why they launch better than the STI.. but their Topend is trash. If that Type R gets a Dyno tune, there isnt much itll lose too.
Not at these hp levels. As long as traction is no issue, fwd is superior from a roll while drag racing. Lighter car, and less power loss to the back wheels.
Regardless, awd or rwd is superior in the vast majority of circumstances
@@Dailyshart Yes, where AWD shines is initial burst of speed at lower speeds and lower gears, traditionally where FWD Honda's tend to struggle with 250+whp in 1st and 2nd gear.. But once a K-series has traction, thats all she wrote.. My all-motor stock K24A with full bolt ons that made 233/193 was pretty much useless in 2nd gear at WOT.. Unless of course I went to a wider wheel and very aggressive tire.
There is no special oil that breaks down the shavings. I'd recommend changing the oil filter every single oil change and if you're driving more aggressively the change intervals should be closer as well.

I have a 2013 wrx with similar mods and torqued performance tune. Cool to see it up against a ctr. I felt it when he said it was a stressful car lol. I feel like his may be getting out of boost between shifts? He seems to be similar in acceleration till he shifts. Maybe the tune isn’t great or it’s knocking on shift and pulling power. Cool race either way. Great content.

Imagine my surprise when he randomly turned up in your post 6 hrs later! 😆 He must have been on his way over to meet you for the race. Took a couple of pics of his Scooby at the pump while he was there. Nice wrap for a first time DIY! And good race! Though I'm biased as I own a '19 CTR myself (Champ White), but still fun to watch! 👍

I thought that as well. It seemed much faster than my old WRX with full bolt ons.. I made like 250whp with full bolt ons on the Dyno.. THat was like 8-9 years ago tho.

I beat a fbo tuned st in my stock type r off a 40 roll wasn’t really close once we hit 4th
@@colinfitzpatrick9931 I believe never raced my 2 cars but the type r has top end easy even stock , focus has nice 2 and 3rd gear but after that if falls off fast !
One thing, Subaru’s will last FOREVER if you know how to care for them. Super temperamental engines (EJ motors). With the right type of owner, they’ll last as long as a Toyota or Honda. 2001 Legacy GT wagon with 266,xxx miles.

Na not at all. I have a 17 wrx FA20 engine with only an Accessport and e30 tune (no bolt ons) and I gap type Rs, Stis, and whatever else in that power range. I’m pushing easy a 300whp/wtq and that wrx in video is not FBO. Either way I gap older WRXs with just a few bolt ons as well.
Also just 2wd, with honda's already low drivetrain loss. WRX aint slow but he'd have a ways to go hp wise to beat CTR.
