I think Amaya might be the true villain of Wish, she's just not about announcing her plans to the rest of the kingdom. I haven't actually seen the movie and only have knowledge of it from other people dissecting and analyzing it, but Amaya doesn't to try too hard to dissuade Magnifico from using Forbidden magic nor does she seem to have any conflicting feelings after he gets imprisoned in the mirror. This is from someone who supposedly loved him and had been with him for years. But the moment he goes down a dark path she's perfectly fine supporting this young girl and her friends overthrow him? She sings about how Magnifico only cared about the crown, but I think that was her motivation slipping through.

Yah they should have just made it that either he gets "cured" of the corruption, or she says WITH SADNESS that he'll have to be put somethwere safe for awhile, and in a few months they can free him and see if he's back to normal, basically giving us hope he can be saved. I just hate how this film sets him up as an egtistical but still pretty benevolant magic king, no one HAS to come to Rosas, no one HAS to give him their wishes, no one HAS to hope their wish is granted. Sure he's in the wrong for hording the wishes, he should be able to give people back their wishes if they want them since the wish does make them lose a drive to accomplish that wish. Then rather then it just being his flaws that make him go evil he gets desperate and by using the fobidden magic THAT corrupts him and makes him do evil things, the magic is what's makign him do evil, not himself.

I mean, she did watch the good in him "fade". She tried to stop Magnifico from using that book and it worked once. What bothered me the most was Amaya's reaction to Magnifico's defeat. You would think she would be heartbroken about how her husband fell into darkness (because she knows he's been corrupted) and be upset about his fate. All it would take is a melancholy scene of her picking up the mirror and looking upon the monster inside with sadness before wrapping it up in a cloth to be put somewhere safe. It would have shown that while she knows they did what had to be done, she will always love the man he used to be and carry on creating the kingdom they wanted to create. Instead, she's like "Lol you're in a mirror know. I'm the queen now, because girl boss. BTW I never loved you."

According to her VA in a January article, the recording took about a year and every now and then they'd come back and make her a but kinder. I wonder if this was an exec decision since (by comparison) male Disney villains aren't as popular as female villains. Plus Jennifer Lee said in an interviee before the film came out that Asha defeating a king wasn't a statement about the monarchy, highlighting how Amaya was a good and just queen.
Seeing how little she was in the film, I wonder why they made her so bland, as well as going out of their way to highlight her being a good queen in contrast to Magnifico.

@@sophieamandaleitontoomey9343 "Knowing What I Know Now" highlights everything wrong with the supporting characters in the film; this could've easily been sung by random villagers with Asha. The Teens are more caricatures of the 7 dwarves rather than feeling fleshed out (they should've made 3 or 4 of them instead), and Amaya's involvement did nothing for their plan since Magnifico outsmarted them anyway--and I still question how he lost, given that he has so many abilities...
In the ideal world, villain Amaya would've reminded me of Queen Regina from "Once Upon a Time" and Magnifico (whether using his good or evil concept) would've been a cross between King Triton and King Stefan.

It's a shame they were more focused on various references than making a good story. In contrast to a twist villain, I would've enjoyed a corrupted villain. Amaya would be the obvious villain, while Asha's naivete and idealism accidentally exposes Rosas' selfishness, awakening Magnifico's PTSD and making him a villain because he believes humans are naturally selfish and baseless dreams (ie stuff people wish for just because or want the easy way out rather than working hard first) need to be destroyed.
Or you know, ripoff Dreamworks and make Magnifico a parody of Shrek 2's fairy godmother. It'd be a hilarious clapback at DW parodying them.

@@OpticalSorcerer was the villain from Snow White only Queen by marriage? I don't remember that but it's been a while. But 1. her crown is very similar to the Evil Queen's crown 2. Her husband is the magic mirror and that works explain how she came to possess said mirror 3. Lots of people have pointed out she was originally written as the villain in this to the point that's how the voice actress auditioned 4. Since the whole movie essentially turned out to be an origin story for a bunch of characters and she was supposed to be the villain, that ended up with the magic mirror and was a queen with that crown it makes sense that this would be the evil queen origin story.
One more point that just occurred to me is how the dark magic resembles the Evil Queen's magic in Snow White, with all the green whisps and what not.
      Thoughts?

    • @OpticalSorcerer
      @OpticalSorcerer หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@4jgarner The fairy tale states that the king remarried, and practically speaking, it wouldn't make sense if the stepmother was a queen beforehand, since Snoe White's dad would either be lower class (unlikely, plus the queen wouldn't allow SW to have the princess title) or king (which means SW has a kingdom to go to to escape, but given that there's a wandering unrelated prince nearby, this is unlikely).
Magnifico has never been shown the power of omnipotence like the mirror, and everything else you mentioned were mainly Easter eggs rather than purppsefully trying to create a consistent Disney timeline/origin story. That's partially why I despised the film; they were more focused on references than good writing.

I seriously don't understand why can't we have villains who care about their loved ones. Sure, they might have twisted morals. They might have problematic personalities - they also might be in the wrong in a specific situation, or because of trauma, because most people are not born evil. But for me, every tale would be so much more heartbreaking, if we would see that even a villain can love someone. Even in the little mermaid, I felt a bit of pity for Ursula, when her pets died, because they showed that there is a spark of care in her. Imagine how much more powerful a story could be, if Magnifico actually loved his kingdom, loved Amaya, and Amaya cared for him too, but their morals are so far apart that it is no longer enough.

I can't say I liked her character at all. She was basically the second in command for a decade or more. She had to know all the secrets Asha learned during her "apprenticeship" after all why would he tell a random girl he just hired secrets his wife doesn't even know? Then the Queen goes on to know he's possessed by the evil book and just dumps all responsibility for anything she's done and blames her husband.
Worse she's happy he's imprisoned for all eternity in a mirror, a fairly harsh punishment for some one who didn't even kill a single person far as I remember. His only real crime was not granting wishes to every one who wanted them.

Not only a waste of potential, but a plot that made Magnifico an actual villain. I will be honest, I haven’t seen “Wish”, but it sounds like Magnifico was a good man who was too stubborn to change his ways, and then became so increasingly desperate that he turned to a source of evil that corrupted him. That’s not really a villain in my opinion.
They could’ve even cured him and had him make amends, working with Asha and Maya to find a new and better way to grant wishes.

An idea i had that could have been cool for a villain in this movie was that Magnifico had an evil twin (lets call it Harry)
While Magnifico tried to use magic for good, Harry used it for evil and consumed by the power, he study his own brother for take over his kingdom.
He manage to imprison him into the book, which is why he keep it locked and start to grant wishes who can benefit him mostly.

    • @cybertramon0012

I had a similar idea for the story. Only I felt he could be called Chernabog, after the demon from Fantasia’s ‘Night on Bald Mountain’.
Chernabog and Magnifico found a wishing Star and used it to found a kingdom together, but they granted so many wishes that the Star couldn’t maintain them all and everything broke. In their second attempt, Chernabog decided that they should use the Star for their own desires, and they end up fighting when Magnifico realises Chernabog wanted to horde all magic and rule the world.
The fight itself is the only detail remembered, so when Asha frees him she thinks he had a nice wish that didn’t benefit Magnifico, only to learn the truth after helping him get his wish. Now she has to undo the wish while fighting his new demonic form alongside the rest of the kingdom.

It’s because Frozen 2 had no major rewrites. One draft was submitted, and they had to commit to it. Wish must have been rewritten constantly out of fear due to constant failures. After all, what Disney does is what modern toxic parents do, they get rid of what they think is a problem rather than actually “parent” the kid. Disney allowed no delays for Frozen 2 and The Incredibles 2 since The Good Dinosaur left a year empty and winded up a bomb after so many delays. Disney has no middle ground, they just remove what’s a problem. The no villain movies exist because the Oscar blockbuster trilogy remaining criticism is the twist villains, so obviously they were rushing to get a new villain out of the way in Wish. Yet they removed the cat that would have harkened back to Si and Am, Scar, and Shere Khan and the Queen was just there, because when people said they wanted a “real villain”, Disney just assumed overly evil could simply be plugged in.

The guy in the doc who said “we haven’t missed a release date, and there’s no way we’re going to miss this one” even worked on wish too.
Also I think the cat would’ve also harkened back to Lucifer from Cinderella.

See what would've been better for the king as a villain is that he was always destroying the wishes to maintain his power and has the nice and giving persona so people willingly move to his kingdom and give him wishes aka more power. And obviously because he is the only one that can use magic legally it shouldve been written that some people can naturally use magic and others can't like the king, and because of this they are exiled or the power is stolen from them by the king of course everything else is fine but the fact that people have their freedoms limited for a society that the king sees as peaceful and good is something that could've been explored. If the story was written this way then his fall to evil makes way more sense. His backstory shouldve been used to explain his desire to control and need for power. He likes power and control and desires to keep it that way simple and he's a villain that was always evil. And his wife likes her comfortable postion and loves her husband therefore thats why she helps him.

I will fix the villains in one paragraph and in doing so the message, ready?
The king and Queen grants everyone’s wishes making them dependent on them. The King and Queen both love each other immensely and are a healthy power couple despite being the villains
Because they created a neverland in which nothing bad happens but because everyone gets their wishes, nobody grows, changes, or learns anything, and everyone has to be happy and nothing bad or dark or sad is allowed to happen, and the more they give to the king and queen , the less they have of themselves until one day they fade away and nobody remember them. Nobody knows who they truly are because they’ve been given everything. And so Asha wishes to know who she is and what’s really out there. The King and Queen are threatened by this because people would learn they’ve been living a lie and they been killing them off to live forever. And so Asha learns a lesson about not getting everything you wish for and that sometimes bad things need to happen so you can appreciate the good things.
Now tell me that wouldn’t be a better idea.

And this is what we would call the 1st major domino to fall and make the story and Magnifico righteous.
So originally Amaya and Magnifico are villians, a power couple who made the kingdom to take wishes from people's hearts as they contain powerful magic to do what they want. They make the excuse of taking it and granting it later and living in this "utopia" they granted.
They drain most wishes for power (maybe youth, maybe just something else)
Magnifico being the sorcerer and muscle while Amaya being the thinker and manipulator.
But oops.. now you want to make Amaya a twist villian, so she has to be nicer but then reveals near the end she is in league with evil magnifico! Leading--
Nah, let's change it again... because (We dont know what the direction was, but either she became good since Magnifico got a tragic backstory or they changed it to EVIL MAGIC. or more likely.. they made her good so they had to change Magnifico to be believable good since the queen would catch on)
Then time constraints happen and ...you start rushing retakes and don't have time to write everything correctly.. creating the hodgepodge we have now.

She was just kinda like "wow I've seen too much" without explaining or showing what he did, cause he honestly didn't really do much in front of her, or abused her in any way. Rather, they could have had her and Asha react to the same bad things he did, and shown their character developments around that. Like hero/villain pathways. But really a bad ass villain couple would have been more fun. I think we just needed a villain villain throughout the whole movie with no background as to how they got there, they can just do that in a separate movie.

Magnifico was never proven wrong, and nothing communicates to me that people at the end were happier than in the beginning of the movie. And so I would guess all she did was reintroduce greed, violence for personal gain, and the anarchy of a rebellious mob without a clear unifying goal after the insurrection of the King...which will either result in civil unrest forming either as gangleadership under a weak crown, or just simply a strict monarchy under new leadership where following her guidelines will get reinforced by use of magic since a traditional semi-democratic system could not bid elected institutions against people with the power to make wishes their reality...well maybe if the queen introduced a strong policeforce with far-reaching rights in a system of total surveillance...well that sounds kind of like a tale as old as time itself finally...
