Cool. One idea- instead of Ashe accidentally killing the queen, maybe you could make Magnifico be part of the battle and accidentally kill the queen in the crossfire. That was it's not Ashe's fault, and you could use it as a reference to Ursula killing Flotsam and Jetsam in The Little Mermaid.

I cant stop feeling like the whole idea of the queen should be an entirely different aspect in the movie though!! wouldnt it be interesting to see the queen be somewhat a neutral force, questioning whether she should be supporting her husband and his ambitions for her unconditional love her him. it would be interesting that instead of her getting killed, she would get turned evil at the moment she gets struck during the battle by Magnifico's magic, turning her into the Evil Queen making it a logical set-up towards the Snow White story eventually as she and the mirror are together for a reason and she wants to rule the kingdom again someday for revenge.

By the way, good on him for writing and acting in said masterpiece along with Smigel and Paul Sado. Excellent work. Bob Iger was right. Don’t have a message (at least don’t have it be your main focus), and make movies to entertain. Stick to having messages in non-fiction books all you want, because at this point, if they don’t liven up, they won’t ever be able to make a movie with a message like this (or any movie for that matter) without shoving a message in your face.

    • @nickchavez720

That would be a great theme. Life isn't fair and we don't always get what we want. So be happy with what you do have.

    • @unclewiley1986
      @unclewiley1986 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +68

I think a happy medium is great. Imagine this; The King started off granting all the wishes and as he does he realizes he doesnt have enough magic to grant all the wishes. So he starts picking and choosing, but there's unrest so what does he do? He makes it so that you forget your wishes after telling them. As the years go by his hunger for power grows and he slowly becomes the villian he is. He makes sure to sparingly grant wishes to placate the people.
Not sure how to write the Queen into this but I imagine shes a ride-or-die and a great strategist.
Asha and Starboy bond over their belief that Wishes should be granted, however throughout the movie they see that Star recklessley granting wishes causes chaos. This causes a bit of a confusion for Asha and Star as it challeges their views but they learn that not all wishes need magic intervention.

That’s actually textbook narcissist. As long as people agree with or praise a narcissist they can be very charming and sweet, but the second someone doesn’t agree or takes attention and praise away from them they turn ugly real fast. They always see themselves as the hero and have an inability to admit wrongdoing. They will rewrite history even in there own mind to fit the “they are the hero everyone else is the problem” narrative.

For example you seem rather knowledgeable about this, I was not, I didn't know how narcissism manifested, so to me it was jarring, it made no sense. And if a movie relies on an outside knowledge to work, that's a problem.
Mother Gothel is a perfect example of this done right. You don't have to know much about gaslighting, they show it.

If Disney wanna create a false sense of utopia, they should follow "we happy few" game because otherwise in this movie setting, the king basically just gives everyone a free place to live happily with only the cost of their dreams and the dreams are shown not really affecting anyone.

You can be a princess without being related to loyalty or marrying into royalty. Like Mulan. I believe the metaphorical meaning of princess is a woman who is kind, brave, and performs acts of unselfish love and compassion for the people around her. There is more than one way to be a princess. Or more than one way to be a queen. That last one was inspired by LOL surprise

One small edit on top of your edits: I think it would be good if the captured wishes were actually stars. Then they can have this paraell with Asha wanting to help save her people, and Star wanting to help save his, and both valuing what the other person wants, or wishing for what's good for the other person moreover, over simply being together. I think if the captured wishes are also captured stars imprisoned in bubbles, ones who presumably fell to earth to grant the wishes they heard and were never able to carry out their purpose, it also makes Magnifico more evil. Which is a plus.

    • @sawyerk641
      @sawyerk641 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +98

@@petthepirate3115 Please do. Thank you for liking my idea--let me talk about it more 🥺
So one thing that I feel like all good children's movies need is something that invites imaginative play. When you're playing make believe with your friends, or your dolls, or whatever it is, just /something/ that grabs you and makes you want to repeat that over and over. Ideally, I feel like the best Disney movies also tie that magical idea to an object that is, again, really enticing for play.
With Ariel, Ursula had that conch shell and I'd touch one and pretend I lost my voice. Beauty & the Beast, I thought about that every time I saw a rose, and I used to like to watch one wither and die in my room. With Peter Pan, sparkles = pixie dust, and flashlights = pixies. Yes, I believed in faeries and would proudly proclaim that to anyone who asked. With Cinderella, it was obviously the slipper, and so on and so forth.
I feel like the stars could've been that. If I were writing "star lore" for this movie, there are over 300 billion trillion stars in the sky; there have only been 199 billion people to ever exist on planet earth. Quite literally, there are more than enough stars in the sky for /everyone/ to have one that's meant just for them. For everyone to have ONE STAR that's dedicated to making their wish come true.
I'd have thought that was SO MAGICAL as a kid! I'd have been looking up at the night sky wanting to talk to my star, and check in with them daily, and whisper my wishes.
We also have to send a "good message" to kids though, and here's what I propose; every person has a Star, but their magic is only as powerful as the effort and dedication you put in. If you aren't working towards your dream, they loose the ability to see and hear you, and you loose the ability to see and hear them. Also, star wishes get genie rules (another reference); no bringing people back from the dead/curing terminal illness, and no making people fall in love with you.
Even then, not all dreams come true, but that's not necessarily a bad, or a worthless thing; I feel like the movie was trying to have some commentary on intergenerational dreams, and how even if you can't do something for yourself, you can help the people you love achieve their goals. You can pass down your Star since they're always watching, and keep working to make it real generation through generation. Also, like with Asha's grandfather, with a lot of art the dream dream isn't sucsess, it's just /doing/ the thing and feeling inspired. I like how you made Asha's friend's wish to be best knight in the kingdom, because I think that would be a GREAT deconstruction of whether obtaining the goal or the journey matters more with wishes. Like, sure that's probably /literally/ what he wanted to do, but underneath that my guess would be that what he actually wanted was to help people, and to protect them, and to feel like he was contributing to something. Magnifico could pervert his wish by giving him what he /literally/ wants, but not what he was actually asking for in a way that enslaves him, and actually makes him act against his desires deep down.
I also think that provides further reason why dreams are collected at 18; children have silly, unrealistic wishes. I wanted to be a mermaid when I was 7; obviously that isn't going to happen. But you know, as an adult that might turn into wanting to live by the sea, or be a marine biologist. So your wish/star needs time to "mature" like you do. And maybe that's a reason Magnifico gives people as to /why/ he has to guard the wishes; he's giving them time to "mature," and see if they're viable, but what he's not telling the people is that that happens naturally whether he's there or not. People also learn to form new dreams when old ones don't work out, so he's essentially infantilizing everyone in the kingdom from protecting them from "heartbreak" through not really letting them live, or try and fail for themselves. And of course, we /also/ know that he's draining the life of stars to power his magic, but they don't know that yet.
Which, btw, can we have him give a /slightly/ better example as to why he doesn't grant all the wishes? Again, saying that some wishes are immature and impractical and wouldn't come true anyone and would just further hurt everyone in Rosa; that makes sense. That's a lie I can imagine people swallowing. Him being all "ah, your grandfather's wish isn't specific enough and might start a revolution" is leaping to so many conclusions.
But yeah, that's my take on wishes. There are generally a lot of cool things and important lessons to learn with a concept like this, Disney just did not do any of that.
And again, I LOVE the idea that Asha maybe falters at the end? Maybe she knows Star will have to go once he grants her wish to help everyone, and she doesn't want that because she loves him now. But also, her desire for him to be happy outweighs that; she wants /him/ to be able to help his family too. Magnifico can even taunt her with that; "I told you Asha, people make stupid, selfish wishes. You're the same, you're no better; help my dad, help my grandfather, help my (he looks at Star sneeringly) /friend/."
Except she is different, she's not like him at all. Even if she's conflicted at the end of the day her heart does want what's best, and she proves that by simply trusting Star, and as you said, using him "well."
      Other tagalong ideas:
      - Disney is so married to the idea of twist villains, fine. Have Magifico's /wife/ be a twist villain. That actually might've been cool for once, to see her all innocent and sweet and helping Asha's friend's only to backstab then in Act IV like "lol did you really think I'd go against my husband? I love him, obviously. He's /my/ wish."
-Asha's dad should've been an astronomer! Maybe he even theorized that stars were real before, and that's something he told Asha when she was little. She always thought he was just speaking metaphorically, but nope; turns out dad was one of the rare adults who could see stars for what they were because he never gave up on his dream that her life would be easier then theirs, and that she'd have more opportunities then he had.
That's it, that's my essay. Thanks!

@@perrobang8925 I really do feel like that's a core element of modern Disney that's missing! Like, let's review from Zootopia.
      - Zootopia: people did like this movie, but what are kids supposed to play-pretend with it? Play-pretend racism? No thank you lol.
      - Moana: I don't think it's a coinsidence that this one was well recieved by most "disney fans." Pretending I can talk to the ocean as a child? Check.
      - Ralph Breaks the Internet: I'm supposed to play pretend... that I'm deconstructing a corporate empire? That I'm a video game character having a midlife crisis? That I'm a child /keeping/ an adult from having a midlife crisis? lol no.
      - Frozen II: I can understand why /kids/ would be enchanted by this one. The pacing was off for adults to enjoy, but there's still plenty to play pretend with here.
      - Raya: I guess you could play pretend with dragons? But frankly there's just a lot of media that does this fantasy far better. Namely, /How to Train Your Dragon/.
      - Encanto: I'm going to go out on a limb and say that while pretending everyone in your family has a super power /is/ fun, framing it through trauma and making Mirabelle special because she /doesn't/ have a power would've kind of put a damper on it for me as a kid. I'd understand if anyone disagreed with this assessment, I just feel like "magical rooms/house" is a little too vague for kids. Encanto is still a great film about family dynamics... family dynamics just aren't what I want to roleplay as a child. But that could just be me.
      - Strange World: haven't seen it so I can't comment but I did hear good things.
      - Wish: truly, what are kids supposed to imagine about this film? That stars are plushies? That animals can talk? Being a magicians apprentice? Except, Asha really isn't that at all, and the King is evil so again, not making magic very fun to me.
Once again, I think so much of playtime (and Disney marketing, for that matter) is "this object does this thing when I'm playing", and the modern films are /really/ hit or miss with that. I think a lot of these films just wouldn't have appealed to me as much as a kid because I personally would've rather held my little crystal and pretended to be Kida from Atlantis, or brushed my hair and sung Mother Gothel's song, or tried on shinny shoes and acted like they fit perfectly and dressed up for a ball.

*Another Idea for ending,* in the fight between Star and Magnifico, Mag's magic could of been deflected in one of the scenes resulting in Mag accidentally killing or freezing his own wife.
He would be distracted for a moment, overwhelmed by shock and a bit self reflection. Asha would try to reason with him, but he is too far gone and tries to take his anger out on Asha, this is where Star flies in to protect her but gets seriously injured.
That injury causes an explosion of star dust and light, drawling in the citizens to the commotion.
They get covered in the dust and are immuned to his manipulation and temporarily have powers, which they start questioning Mag and riot against him, either killing, arresting or banishing him.
That's when Asha does to the broken Star, and Wishes for him to be alright. The other citizens begin to join her and the Star starts to glow, he takes his human form briefly and they have a moment. And he tells her that even if he must go, he is never truly gone as if she's ever lonely or needs someone to listen to he is always a Star in the night sky.
Like the quote from The Little Prince "In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night. You only you will have stars that can laugh"

i'm imagining a classic fakeout death scene, like this:
while magnifico is sobbing next to whatever he turned his wife into, star boy falls to the ground, fatally injured. asha goes to grab and hold him, and she rolls him onto his back so he can see the night sky. the moon is new, so it's full of stars. beautiful.
starboy says something like "hah, at least i get to see my friends again..." and starts thanking asha for everything because he's the embodiment of joy and light and positivity or something, and then asha starts crying over him as he slowly goes limp- but then, as you suggest, the whole kingdom starts wishing for him to he okay, and then it works.
and then either they have their heartfelt bittersweet goodbye scene or "it's not goodbye forever, i'll come back to grant the wishes of rosas every once in a while" and then the movie ends with a bunch of wholesome scenes and everyone is happy. yaaaaay 🎉

I reeeeaaaalllly hope a bunch of independent animators and artists team up and actually make this happen! It would be so cool. The only problem would be a copyright strike from Disney, but if you just change all the names and re-design the characters, we could all just say the "concept happened to be similar". I'd LOVE to see a revamp like this come out, because not only would it prove this is a redeemable concept, but would also embarass disney further by showing that even a group of random animators online can make a better movie that them using THE SAME BASE CONCEPT.

honestly, i think asha being the king and queen's adopted daughter could still work in this. we can show how close asha is with him by making *him* be the one to tell her about the star and sing the song, which makes later conflict for asha make sense, because we KNOW that they really do love each other.
she could be touring people because thats her duty as the princess. and she could also feel like its her duty to make her people happy, which is why the doubt in her mind originally starts. for the grandfather thing, it could be an old man she met one day and became super close to, someone she could trust without feeling the pressures of being royalty.
king magnifico could let her see the wishes because she's been asking to and he thinks "oh well, whats the harm?" she could ask about the wishes and he could get really angry and sends her to her room. basically blah blah blah, same things as the things you did pretty much, just adjusted to fit this new narrative.
i only have an issue with this because if we really wanna pay homage to the original movies, you've gotta have a princess man!

Tangled didn’t have one, Raya didn’t have one, Wish didn’t have one, Moana didn’t really have one (she does have that ceremonial outfit though, so this is a half addition).
Like in Frozen they get TONS of awesome outfits, and everyone loves it! Artists, cosplayers and kids all enjoy the beautiful outfits and the cool variety. Luna Ponta I agree that it is preferential for a transformation/clothes change to represent a change in the character. In a way them not having one in this movie ends up illustrating that Asha does not go through any change or character growth really. I haven’t seen the movie yet so I can’t confirm this, but based on what everyone is saying that is the sense I’m getting. Also, I know having changes in clothing can feel like a marketing ploy, but honestly I don’t mind it haha, I’m a sucker for cool different designs lol. But another thing is that a costume change is normal/almost tradition at Disney. All the princesses excluding the most recent ones, going way back to even Snow White, had at least 2 outfits. It makes a good reference to the classics (since they were trying to do loads of references-heck, they could have started the movie off with her in Snow White’s rag dress while she’s doing really dirty chores, and then she puts her normal clothes on when she goes to her job). Also People change clothes! It’s normal! The only reason they don’t do it in animation is because it’s a lot more work usually. And a single outfit makes a character more recognizable. But Still… I don’t know. I can’t believe Disney’s marketing team didn’t make them have an outfit change lol. For a company who had corporate meddle so much in the making of this movie, I’m surprised that they missed this.

She would tell Star that it is time for them to return to the sky and leave this world so that wishes can be granted from a distance. Star is sad and looks at Asha and has a thought, he then looks at the Star Queen and uses the wishing spell and wishes to become human. The Star Queen is surprised but smiles and grants his wish, Asha embracing Star during it as a big magic scene happens and at the end Star is human and he and Asha are now sorcerers wearing their end movie royalty outfits.

About the King's song to calm everyone down, I kinda made it for the rewrite, with the chords. Titled "Trust in Me" or "Everything Will Be Alright" if you want. Anyways, here it is: Verse 1: (The King appears on a balcony, overlooking a crowd of questioning and disappointed people. He smiles and waves, pretending to be friendly and benevolent.)
C - G - Am - F (This is a common chord progression that sounds stable and familiar. It also establishes the key and the tonality of the song.)
You may think that I have failed you
That I have broken all my promises
But I assure you, that's not true
I'm working hard to grant your wishes
C - G - Am - G (This is a slight variation of the previous progression, that adds some tension and anticipation. It also leads to the chorus.)
And I'm sorry for the delay
But good things come to those who wait
So please be patient, don't be mad
I'm sure you'll be very glad
Chorus: (The King starts to sing in a hypnotic & soothing tone, as the people below him start to calm down and listen. He gestures with his hands, as if casting a spell over them.)
F - G - C - Am (This is another common chord progression that sounds smooth and soothing. It also reinforces the key and the tonality of the song.)
Trust in me, trust in me
I'm your King, I'm your friend
F - G - C - G (This is a slight variation of the previous progression, that adds some resolution and confidence. It also leads to the next verse.)
Trust in me, trust in me
Everything will be alright in the end
Verse 2: (The King points to the horizon, where some smoke and fire can be seen. He acts as if he is concerned and sympathetic, but also confident and optimistic.)
C - G - Am - F (This is the same progression as the first verse, to create a sense of continuity and consistency.)
You may see some troubles in the kingdom
Some unrest, some chaos, some despair
But don't you worry, don't you fear
I have a plan to make things fair
C - G - Am - G (This is the same progression as the first verse, to create a sense of continuity and consistency.)
And I know it may seem hard
But we have to stick together
    We're a team, we're a family
And we'll make it through this weather
Chorus: (The King repeats the chorus, as the people below him nod and smile, agreeing with him. He looks pleased and charismatically smugs, as he thinks he has them under his control.)
F - G - C - Am (This is the same progression as the first chorus, to create a sense of continuity and consistency.)
Trust in me, trust in me
I'm your King, I'm your friend
F - G - C - G (This is the same progression as the first chorus, to create a sense of continuity and consistency.)
Trust in me, trust in me
Everything will be alright in the end
Bridge: (The King changes his tone, becoming more sinister and arrogant. He kinda reveals his true intentions, He claims that he is the only one who can use its power, and that he will reward those who follow him.)
Am - F - C - G (This is a reversed version of the chorus progression, that sounds darker and more menacing. It also creates a contrast and a change in the song.)
There's a star up in the sky
That can make your dreams come true
    But it's not for everyone
It's only for the chosen few
Fm - C - G - C (This is a borrowed chord progression, that uses a minor chord from the parallel minor key. It sounds surprising and twisted. It also creates a drama and an emotion in the song.)
And I'm the one who can decide
Who deserves to get their wish
So don't you question, don't you doubt
Just follow me and you'll be rich
Chorus: (The King sings the chorus one last time, as the people below him cheer and applaud, completely gaslighted by him.)
F - G - C - Am (This is the same progression as the previous choruses, to create a sense of continuity and consistency. However, it also sounds ironic and contrasted with the bridge.)
Trust in me, trust in me
I'm your King, I'm your friend
F - G - C - G (This is the same progression as the previous choruses, to create a sense of continuity and consistency. However, it also sounds ironic and contrasted with the bridge.)
Trust in me, trust in me
Everything will be alright in the end
    sooo--???

I was very able to sing this song in my head, and it sounds like a total Disney song. Also it kept making me think of the snake in The Jungle Book, who hypnotizes the main boy. So a nice villain reference too! Especially if you hold the “s” in trusssst when you sing it

I feel like the queen should have more screen time/a more active role in the evil plots of the movie so they feel like a real villain couple and the queen isn't just an accessory to Magnifico's character. Also maybe it's better if instead of dying before Magnifico he just sees her get defeated/severely injured and that's what makes him angry and lash out even more at star. Then when he goes to look at her and try to help her or hold her or smthg that's when they both die or get trapped in a mirror forever or whatever.

Definitely better than Disney’s version! Though I think the confines of “girl boss, no love story” end up helping it. Having a romance between Star and Asha seems natural, even if the conclusion is a bittersweet Pocahontas/John Smith situation. We could even get a farewell “Ah-na” wave as they go their separate ways in the last scene. 😂

Pretty good. Definitely better than what Disney actually gave us.
Why not have Asha be part of the natives from Rosa, who are also naturally gifted in "healing magic". Asha, having the most potential out of all her people, becomes Magnifico's first and only apprentice. She finds out that Magnifico only grants wishes that are harmless to his position in power, and the rest are left in the vault - but in reality, he absorbs those wishes to further fuel his already powerful magic…and maybe he was the real reason for his old kingdom's downfall. Asha uses her magic to unintentionally cause a star to land on Earth. As Magnifico is aware that the star's power actually eclipses his own, and uses the dark book to become powerful enough to steal Star's magic. Asha, remembering her grandfather's and late father's words about wishes, is able to encourage everyone to take back their wishes as they have the power make them real. Star escapes the staff's mirror and imprisons Magnifico in his place. While the kingdom of Rosas repairs itself, Amaya is revealed to be the true mastermind behind all of Magnifico's evil deeds; and vows to one day free her beloved husband. Or why not have Asha be Magnifico and Amaya's adopted or biological daughter - imagine having to battle your own parents in order to save your home.
Another version is Asha doesn't know what she really wants - as she has all she needs, plus is very helpful and reliable in Rosas. Magnifico still refuses to grant Sabino's vague wish, and explains that his old kingdom was destroyed because a being from the stars granted everyone's wish and caused mayhem to spread. The being than abandoned everyone as the kingdom tore itself apart (Magnifico and Amaya being the only survivors). Asha wishes upon a star and Star appears, and the two grant most of the wishes - however, Star, still not in full control of his powers, unintentionally causes mayhem and disorder. Magnifico, aware he is not powerful enough to stop all the chaotic magic hesitantly uses the dark book. Sabino suffers a heart attack during a scuffle, and regrets not being able to inspire people with his music - but Asha reveals that his music made people happy and inspired them to help others - Sabino dies peacefully in his sleep. Magnifico steals Star's magic, but Asha is able to realize the magic that all people have and their connection to the stars. Magnifico is defeated and imprisoned. Leaving his kind wife to replace him as ruler. Amaya and Asha promise to find a way to free and cure Magnifico. Asha learns that Magnifico had a system to keep everyone safe from themselves, and that not every wish should be granted. Star, aware he's not meant to live in this world, gives Asha a wand made of his magic - they share a kiss before he returns among the other stars.

this is pretty good!! one thing i would really want to keep from wish's development concepts though is starboy being mute, i think having a main character be nonverbal and stay nonverbal for the whole movie would be really cool. this plot you outlined still works if he communicates things through expressions, gestures, props etc, or have asha figure out or already know some lore rather than him explaining it. plus we can have some ariel/tinker bell references (i would move heaven and earth to have him for whatever reason do the ursula "BO-DY LAN-GUAGE" gesture)

I like it a lot! Very cute rewrite that makes tons more sense. Great job! One thing I would have loved though would be if Star and Asha were romantic interests. Like, I get the hesitation, but Disney stories were built around romance for decades, I think itd be a crime for Asha to not fall in love with Star and vice versa. He could even still leave at the end, or become her sidekick/wand for the rest of her career as a granter of wishes and
Maybe like as he transforms back and forth, all she has to do is hold his hand and then she’s suddenly holding the wand? Something like that, idk lol.

I think this movie had a good message, but it got seriously lost during production. The issue wasn't that Magnifico isn't granting every single wish. IT'S THAT HE'S DEPRIVING PEOPLE OF THEIR HOPES AND DREAMS TO KEEP THEM UNDER CONTROL. Asha's grandfather outright said that he didn't NEED his wish to come true. Just having it back was all that mattered to him. There's no magic in this world more powerful than human spirit. That's what made the final battle so beautiful to me. I'm truly disappointed that they felt the need to scrap the original concept, because this could have been so much more.

Honestly one thing I wish that they did was teach a lesson that wishes can be dangerous and not all have good intentions. Asha’s whole “give the people their wishes and grant them all” was horrible because not everyone is a good person. I mean, just look at how greedy the town was, constantly asking more of magnifico and only caring about the wishes.
What I would have done is made magnifico a sympathetic hero turned corrupt due to magic then gets redeemed. He fears for his citizens safety and will do anything to protect them, even if it means he shelters them too much. Like a parent who tries to shield their children from the real world due to their fear of them getting hurt. He isn’t a bad guy, just a king who deep down is still a scared child who had to witness the fall of his home and family. Even throughout the movie we see him having childlike tendencies like needing constant reassurance and praise. Also his little mannerisms and certain lines he says really makes it seem like he is a kid at heart. He is scared and won’t let history repeat itself, not this time.
Asha however being a young girl and not having experienced the pain Magnifico went through, is naive and tries to free the wishes along with starboy. Magnifico turns to the dark magic (which now is changed so that those who turn to it CAN turn back within a certain time frame) to protect the town from what he believes is dangerous. They succeed in their quest, trap and or capture magnifico somehow and free the wishes, but soon realize why magnifico didn’t grant all of their dreams in the first place. Chaos ensues with some wishes being purely good and innocent while others collide, cause harm and destroy Rosa’s. Asha in panic and despair doesn’t know what to do and realizes this is all her fault and her and star boy need to reverse these wishes. She learns that while yes some things king Magnifico did weren’t exactly fair (like erasing all memories of their wish and basically turning the citizens into shells with no purpose but to keep on wishing) Magnifico did have good intentions. They go and seek help from the queen who joins them in an attempt to get her husband and kingdom back because deep down she knows he is a good man and that Rosa’s doesn’t deserve to fall.
Using Stars magic they attempt to reverse the wishes, collecting and turning them back into nothing more than just hopes and dreams. As they are nearly half way through, Magnifico manages to escape whatever chamber or trap they stuck him in and creates the staff to harness the wishes and banish the “evil” he believes is in his town. He appears in the final act and after sucking the wishes back from the towns people he begins to entrap them, guaranteeing safety and vowing to never let anything hurt them again. Asha and star rush to defeat him but soon realize he’s far too powerful. Star is wounded and a lot of his magic was drained. Asha stays beside him, and won’t let Magnifico take him. Then, the queen steps up. While she may not have the magic or power he does, she knows his heart and intentions. He is not a bad guy, no one is, they are all just flawed human beings with dreams. She continues to talk to him more and more, reminding him of who he is and why she loved him to begin with. And so to end it all, and to pay tribute to all of Disney’s classic tales, she gives him true loves kiss (as cheesy as it’s sounds lol) and breaks the hold the magic had on him. The magic from him is drained and stars magic is regained along with his strength (I’m imagining something similar to the scene in beauty and the beast when the beast turns back into a human n order to pay homage to the film). After that Asha apologizes for her naivety and says she just wanted to make the people happy, magnifico apologizes and tells her why he had to do what he had to. After talking he decides to lift the rule he made that states wishes will be forgotten when given up, so that way those with them can still try to make them happen with hard work. He still will grant the wishes of citizens but now they have the right to decide and work for their goals. Up until this point I don’t know what would happen to star but I definitely would want star and Asha romance because cmon, we all know it would be adorable.
So yeah that’s my little rewrite. I think making both Asha and Magnifico “villains” in their own sense would be a good take because it goes to show sometimes not everything is black and white. Asha isn’t a bad person, just flawed. Same way Magnifico isn’t evil or cruel. Also Asha would get an entire personality rewrite. I’m thinking of making her more introverted and reserved kinda like Bezeema but not as easily spooked. She’s efficient, does her job and is determined to help her people even if she isn’t the most charismatic person. This could have been such a cool,p story but nope, Disney had to ruin it

I like what your going for here but I have a few notes:
    1) I think that nearly every Disney produced film should have 2 references, then the films after he passed should have one except for the most iconic ones like Beauty and the beast and frozen.
    2) at the end when Ahsa's dress changes it should be transformed like the way Cinderella's dress was transformed.
    3) instead of making Asha souly a straight laced go getter because that seems a bit boring. Instead make her a bit more passionate & nervous go getter.
    4) no chicken little references... just no.
    5) I think as a omage to walt himself that one "dancing in the clouds" scene should also be added at the end like in Sleeping beauty instead of the cake reference....

I agree with 3, I don't see what changing Asha's personality adds to this version specifically. It doesn't really add onto the theme.
With a character like Tiana for example, her being uptight worked well for the character arc she had to go through, learning that she needed time to enjoy herself and not just work to death. That's not to say that characters can't be straight laced without an arc, but I feel like it needs to add something. But I suppose that could just be my opinion

Don’t you miss having really pretty and cool second outfits for the characters though? 🥺
We haven’t had that in a princess movie (excluding Frozen) since Princess and the Frog, in 2009.
Raya had no princess outfit (doesn’t have to be a dress, but I KNOW other cultures have super cool formal wear too that would be so neat to explore).
Rapunzel had no second outfit, except for her (underwhelming) wedding dress which we only see in her 5 minute short film
Moana didn’t really have one (she did have a formal wear headdress, but I recall that being an accessory that was on top of her basic outfit, not a whole new thing, I could be wrong though. Also it wasn’t treated as cool or special, when she’s wearing she’s unhappy and sees it as a bit of a burden).
And of course Asha didn’t have one. I feel like we’re being cheated out of some really cool art at the very least.

@@clairem1612 i like what you said about moana because it really illustrates something i wanted to talk about. she didn't seem happy on that dress, so how the character feels about the transformation is also important
a transformation is a great opportunity to show another creative design, and add another layer to the character, but it _needs_ to represent a character change as well.
if that's the case, it's a good transformation, but if the character didn't change, and it doesn't reflect anything about the character, it just feels out of nowhere. and if it's on the last moments of the movie, it feels unecessary, and if it's _after_ the climax, it feels too "happily ever after", and if it's right before the climax, it's like a final form of the main character for the last stretch, which is a trope i don't really like.
all of these examples aren't using transformations as a way to communicate the feelings of the character through design, and the story would be the same, or even benefit, from not having it, and because of that, almost all of them feel like the company just wants to sell more different versions of the same toy.
that being said, i do like cool transformations, but only when they say something to the story, and add to it, by manifesting the character's feelings and everything

Luna Ponta!! Aha! I finally found your comment! I had to look for it manually because TH-cam wouldn’t directly take me to “reply” 😭
      Anyways, ignoring my struggle XD
I agree that it is preferential for a transformation/clothes change to represent a change in the character. In a way them not having one in this movie ends up illustrating that Asha does not go through any change or character growth really. I haven’t seen the movie yet so I can’t confirm this, but based on what everyone is saying that is the sense I’m getting. Also, I know having changes in clothing can feel like a marketing ploy, but honestly I don’t mind it haha, I’m a sucker for cool different designs lol, and kids love it too. It gives them choices and the opportunity to have a favourite.
Also, I saw someone else mentioned that if she had a transformation dress, the transformation scene should be a recreation of Cinderella’s transformation scene, which would be another reference.

@@clairem1612 all of these are good points. having a transformation would be totally on point for disney. it's just something i don't usually like, but it's on brand and would be another good reference.
people change clothes naturally, but the problem for me is when the transformation is given weight, like it's important to the story, when it actually isn't. i see charachters change clothes in webcomics all of the time, which is great, because it makes them more believable. but when it comes to hair, something that doesn't change that often, it's much more rare to see changes that aren't relevant to the characters (unless it changes all the time).
while it's great for children to have choices and favorites to be engaged, the story should do that on it's own. transformations just aren't great when they feel like a cheap tactic to make weak stories marketable.
but i guess it doesn't hurt anyone, and it's just a technique that triggers me when i see it misused. and it would totally be a disney thing to have on their disney movie, almost like a self-parody

I've talked about how I'd rewrite this film before. I envisioned star boy being a loki type character. My version involved him having a reputation for bringing ruin to other nobles with his magic. He'd announce a rebellion against Magnifico, claiming he made the kingdom lazy. It would later be revealed in a backstory that he had his dreams ruined by people who had everything handed to them, thus giving him the motive to seek revenge on those who don't try to earn their wish. His character arc would be about him not only realizing that he shouldn't have ever have given up, but more importantly, that what he was missing was friends who could help him (or a romantic support in Asha's case). Which would tie into an overall message of how the key to making our wishes come true is hard work and support.
Let me know what you think of this idea.

Romance would have made it better though.
He doesn’t have to stay, but if in the goodbye scene Asha like… grabbed Starboy by the wrist, making him turn around, and then panicked because she didn’t have a plan for what to do, didn’t expect it to WORK, so she just stood there blinking at him for a moment, before going to kiss him. He can leave after that, it’s still a happy ending even if the love interests don’t stay together. GIVE US ROMANCE IN DISNEY.

I am a person who loves romance, so I would do the end of the movie like this. The star boy hands the magic wand to Asha and tells her: Don't be upset about our separation, one day I will come for you. Then we see through the timeskip an elderly Asha, who teaches a student in a blue cape (the fairy from Cinderella). And a Starry boy comes to her and asks her to go to heaven with him, because being with her is his innermost desire. Asha agrees in tears, and immediately becomes younger and turns into a star. She passes the magic wand to her successor and, taking the hand of the Star Boy, goes to heaven. And at the end of the cartoon, we see the very two stars from Peter Pan, which are Star Boy and Asha
