I really love your videos, Valentina. They're so informative and useful. This one has to be the best explanation of imperfetto vs passato prossima I've seen. Thank you. 💖🙏🏻😊

Hi a great video as ever, but 😅my Italian teacher emphasis that passato prossimo is used for actions/events that occurred in the near past. For example within the last year. However you don’t make this distinction, but rather you focus on a discrete time frame for an event that has concluded. May I ask why?
Yes, I don't use that distinction because I don't think it's accurate. You can use passato prossimo for something that didn't happen in the near past (eg: sono andato a Roma venti anni fa), and you can use imperfetto for something that happened yesterday (eg: ieri mentro ero al ristorante, ho incontrato Maria). What really makes the difference is the time frame and the specificity of the event. So that's why I prefer to teach the keywords I explain in the video, so you can understand the real principles behind these two tenses.
Thank you for this lesson, your lessons are very helpful and really well done.
❤
Grazie mille. This was wonderfully helpful. I appreciated your approach to learning each tense.
