@@shalindelta7 yea it sucks to see but sometimes the only way to push the higher ups to make better games is the overhating ig. (Unless it's Ubisoft or like ea or smth)
@@CrackedJust1nwhat's wrong with your brain that you think a game being solid is predicated on the audiences reaction to it and not the QUALITY OF THE ACTUAL GAME
I really liked Starfield but I can see some issues they could easily fix. The settled planets feel empty outside the main cities. A few towns and villages with some quests would fix this. Incorporate the fallout 4 settlement system in starfield allow you to build a settlement on a planet and set a beacon to attract settlers where they build their own village with the procedural generation system already in game. Allow you to assign the settlement to the faction of your choice which will change the architecture of it.
I think it’s kinda part of the point of the lore of Starfields universe is that humanity is split up and is a fraction of what it once was. Like BILLIONS of people were supposed to have been left behind to die on Earth, and not everyone who made it off established or became a part of communities that survived. That being said Bethesda’s cities have always been approximations of what they are really meant to be in the lore. I also totally agree that they should’ve had Fallout 4s settlement system in the game, and the outpost system we have now feels like a half baked version of that. I’m hoping that we eventually get a dlc based around it that lets us populate them, and honestly it doesn’t seem to far fetched at this point. Todd Howard came out and said they are planning annual expansions to Starfield after Shattered Space. With that, on top of Creation Club content I’d say there’s no way I’m not repopulating the Earth in Starfield someday lol
@@Buff-Wings Todd said the original plan was to have earth like the fallout universe with ruined cities and all everywhere but they ran out of time and it would have take a lot of time to do that as well. I think adding a half dozen or so smaller settlements on the populated planets would have been all they needed to do, but just one city on an entire planet seems empty.
the main problem with Starfield is that , everything you do , its boring and not interesting. The gameply over all , and mechanics and also loading screen every where. If Starfield was like RDR2 very much realistic I would love it.I would rather play No Mans Sky, then Starfield.Starfield also has one of the most boring , and less interesting World building I have ever seen.Just humans every where ? WTF ?
I'm going to keep it simple, Starfield is not bad but it needs big fixes. Most importantly spaceship and space mechanics, all Bethesda has to do is letting us fly between planets without any loading screen, cutscene just like No Man's Sky and Star Citizen and it would make the game 10x better. In a space game with a great customization your ship is just a mini-game and a fast travel gadget, and the funny part is the game engine fully supports it, by some basic console commands fully vanilla you can remove the invisible walls and make your ship extremely fast and travel between planets without loading screens. Huge wasted potential.
Not a bandwagon, just people who have functioning, independent minds that won’t eat the scop that Todd throws in the trough. I used to love Bethesda games until I realized that they don’t innovate. Took me a while to realize this as FO4 was my first Bethesda game. I went back to play some of their older titles and realized not much has changed. Loading screens still run amuck. I don’t mind them normally, but when it’s every 2 minutes in a role playing game, it kinda breaks immersion and ruins the pace of the game. Starfield just edges and teases, but doesn’t make you feel rewarded to play it unless you haven’t played an RPG that wasn’t made by Bethesda. Elder Scrolls 6 is gonna be overhyped, and underdelivered as well at this rate
Of course Mitch's explanation doesn't seem to touch upon the fact that these guys are always hanging around Bethesda forums/subreddits and video comment sections, despite supposedly hating everything Bethesda does. Nobody is forcing them to come to these smaller videos. They clearly aren't watching them. They don't address the points of the videos, only regurgitate the spoonfed nonsense they got last year.
@@Unlucky1776 ah i didn't get that. Seemed like you were suggesting that positive (or even balanced) opinions on starfield weren't acceptable on youtube.
Thank you for pointing this out! Every single major Bethesda release people are so upset saying the formula is ruined or Bethesda is bankrupt and five years later the games a classic. Same story, different game. Cheers to Starfield🎉
I have to say I completely disagree with you about themes such as the Neon clubs. I don’t care about what is woke nor do I really understand it. What I am talking about is immersion. We are told Neon is a pleasure city where nearly anything goes. Just from that description alone, we should expect some messed-up stuff. But, really what we get is tame. Making it tame might make it more approachable, but it has no impact. And the game is rated M. It is not supposed to be for everyone. While these themes might be upsetting to some, they bring so much to the table by having them in the game. Imagine if Neon was the city we were told it would be. Imagine how much corruption and crime there would be in the city. The first thing this would do is give it identity. You can really see just how much contrast there is between Neon and, let’s say, Akila. Second, it would give the player choices. How will you react to these things? Would you like them or oppose them? Would you partake or undermine? Would you be corrupted or overcome? These choices are what make an RPG. It is how the player reacts that builds the character they are playing and how the world changes because of it. Maybe, because of your efforts, the things you saw when you first arrived in Neon are gone now, thanks to you. That is what this game is missing. Themes like these should not be shied away from, and while there need to be restrictions since it is still a game, downgrading them to the point where you hardly notice them leaves a poor delivery on what should be key points of the game.
@@MGrey-qb5xz I don't feel comfortable giving that information. However, if you are curious about my statement, I will try to elaborate. I said, "I don't care about what is woke" because the term is used so often. For example, Starfield includes some homosexual content. Barret, one of the companions, had a husband. You can also hear a few other NPCs talking about having a same-sex partner. The game also allows for pronoun selection in character creation, so you can have a male body type but be labeled as female. Some people might consider these elements as the game "going woke." Some people will be upset by these features, but for me, I do not care about them as long as they don't hinder the experience or become overly redundant. That is what I mean when I said I don't care about them. When I said, "nor do I really understand it," I meant that I don't fully understand it because the word "woke" is tossed around so often. Because it is used so frequently, it becomes unclear what should really be considered woke and what should not. So while I grasp the concept of "woke," it is used too often for me to fully understand, as everyone has an opinion on what level something should be considered woke. Basically, what I am trying to say is that when it comes to the label of "woke," I mostly ignore it because I prefer to focus on stronger elements such as story, gameplay, and mechanics.
Agreed, who the characters were didn't bother me at all, I enjoyed the variety, but they still felt hollow and half finished, dive further into their backgrounds in game, and make the cities far more interesting.
Starfield wanted to nail the dark, desolation feeling of space. It did... but the execution of it in practice ruins the game. Yes, the majority of celestial bodies out there in real life are big, barren rocks, but this is a video game. There has to be a better execution with interesting things in between the exploring. Nobody wants to slowly walk along boring and empty terrain for 25 min just to get to another generic, copy/paste structure they've seen 100 times already. That's not fun. Nobody wants to play a game about space that doesn't have actual space flight... which was instead reduced to clicking a button in a menu. That's not fun. Nobody wants implied faction depth that never actually manifests in the game. That's not fun. Nobody wants a nonsensical plot that only works if everyone is an idiot. That's not fun. Nobody wants generic and boring dialogue. That's not fun. Nobody wants NPC AI that's even dumber than Skyrim (an almost 13 year old game). Nobody wants sleezy, overpriced creation content with an anti-consumer business model. That's not fun. I could keep going, but the point here is that the game simply isn't fun. Good idea, horrible execution.
Yeah I definitely understand that, some things are impossible to implement without making the game boring to some people Like saying "realistic cars" might be a fun idea, but in execution changing oil, tire refills, and gas pumping could definitely get tiring fast Thanks for sharing your opinion!
It's all about personal taste. What you find boring isn't always necessarily boring to others. On a side note, they don't copy and paste structures. It's a procedural system placing structures to fill out the planets so they are not completely empty. Sadly, the way it's implemented causes a lot of them to repeat even though there is a lot of them. But the important thing to consider here is, that's just a very VERY small portion of the game anyway. You can play the entire game without ever interacting with this procedural system and still have over 100+ hours of gameplay.
I keep seeing this argument everywhere. But this is a fundamental aspect of what a planet is. Either it's a wide expanse of landscape with either not much to see or some stuff to see, but the same most of the way through. Or a wide expanse of landscape with artificially placed things to engage the player in. Both options are either unfun or immersion breaking and can be tedious. But you can't have planets without the vast empty space.
@@SilvyReactswith 35 of those hours being just loading screens. Loading screen on doors, loading screen to take off, loading screen to land, loading screen to board ships, loading screen to ride an elevator, multiple loading screens to get to a destination because it’s out of jump range. Would have been fine 2 generations of consoles ago. Starfield came out in 2023, yet feels like a game from 2001

One of the weirdest criticisms I've heard of this game is that the graphics are bad? I played it on PC with everything cranked to the max with frame generation allowing me to reach a smooth 120fps and the game looked breathtaking the whole way through. I swear people say things randomly and everyone just runs with it.
I agree but that wasnt something just random bro, the game had dogshi performance out the gate and terrible graphical problems with a lot of gpus. much better now though admittedly
@lilbroomstick7032 Oh OK I played the game way later. That sucks I hate when games release with crappy performance and fixed months down the line. Still tho the game looks nice.
I played it on an oled big screen and console, there were numerous moments I was taking back by the graphic fidelity at initial release. The frame rate on console is trash and took a while to get used to, but that was overshadowed by the environment detail in the cities. After a few updates on console, I believe they dumbed down the graphics for better performance, cause the walking around the cities didn't have the same impressive appearance.
Too bad you had to get mods to do that. Bethesda games start to have physics bugs when you increase their frames. Projectiles fly faster than normal, movement is sped up and other weird stuff starts to happen. The graphics aren’t all that but they are better. Seems to me Bethesda spent more time giving inanimate objects physics rather than making a good game, but to each their own
Finally, a fair perspective on this platform. Many criticize Starfield without giving it a chance. I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of commenters who dismiss or deride Starfield haven't spent even a minute playing it. Yet, they likely have consumed extensive and biased critiques, as that seems to be the trend nowadays. They're not truly seeking a gaming experience; they're looking for drama. Hate is the most sought-after content in this crazy world
Came here to see if this was sarcasm and my god it isn't. There's nothing wrong with liking something that other people don't, but please don't act like everyone else is crazy for not enjoying this "game." There's zero reason to blame someone for saying that this game is absolutely awful, especially comparing to Bethesda's past releases.
I really enjoy the game personally. It's really not that bad of a game but I will say the main story is horrendous, which is why i use the alternate start mod and just make my own story.
@@SilvyReacts Honestly my complaints are to much to add here, but I'll say right at the start its crazy how you just started a job mining and within the first 20mins just get handed a ship. I also really hate the different universes, the only thing different from each other is the lodge and characters there. The rest of the universe stays the same and if they wanted to do a story with alternate universes this is just lazy. I have alot more complaints but like I said I don't want to write an essay. I do really enjoy the game though I find it much more fun to do ANY of the other faction stories and just explore the universe free.
@CrackedJust1n Starfield does not feel like a game it feels like a book, and you know I'm OK with that but Bethesda is a games studio though, why doesn't it feel like a game, I tell my self. Don't get me wrong it's a game, a game Is a game but in order for it to be a game it has to feel like a game and unfortunately Starfiled does not have that at all, to be honest if starcitizen can do it BETHESDA can do it there are backed by the largest tech giant in the world, further more it saddens me to see Bethesda failing in the department of creativity, it lacks a sense of story, atmosphere, color, place of interests, unfortunately it doesn't have any of that I was really excited when I seen the first trailer shi I watched it 28 times(and counting) when I played it I had my fun but when I went back it felt boring when I went to new places it felt like I've been there before, it felt repetitive to be honest not to hate or anything (I play Stanfield alot), I use to Mod Bethesda game I lot, now sense the starfiled creation kit is out I can use this time to research seamless space travel with Stanfield see I knew the was not going to add seamless space travel from the start, but that's OK, then the story didn't naje any sense when I played it I was deeply disappointed why like why isn't my character listening to me 🙃 they were always stuck in this corner of my ship when I got done building it I ahd to re-download Stanfield. But going back to the beginning Starfield feels like a book.
As a modder I kinda love that they released it in a "beta" and took it out the oven too soon. This way I can help them finish the game with my influence.

I've been on the fence about Starfield since last fall, but last week, I finally got it, and it's been tough putting the controller down for even a minute.
I agree with everything, very excited for Shattered Space, and the confirmed second dlc, whatever that will be! For the bartender quest, that first quest I love because it shows how different the quest design of Starfield is compared to Skyrim and Fallout 4. It has 3 different ways I know for sure you can complete it; steal the security key card from the UC Security office, persuade the guard, or use security to hack open the door. Great video and great editing, subscribed!
It was the minority talking about Oblivion and Skyrim on message boards about the simplification of RPG mechanics. They didn't get a fraction of the vitriol from the player base because Bethesda hadn't spent years eroding consumer trust by that point. It became much more common with Fo4 because they DID water it down further, and they continued the trend with Starfield. Reduced skill trees, reduced roleplay elements, complete elimination of meaningful choices. The way the loop is designed makes it so its homogenized, nothing you do as the player matters. The main appeal to it is playing it all over again and for the life of me I just don't want to. Super jazzed for the people who can find enjoyment in the game, but it's one of the most disappointing titles I've ever played personally.
Reduced Skill trees??? Reduced Role-play Elements??? So skill checks, trait dialogue, and background dialogue just doesn't exist IG. Complete elimination of meaningful choices? Would love to hear what you consider meaningful choices, because there are multiple choices you can make in Starfield that I believe are meaningful in the multitude of; side quests, factions quests, and main quests. How much of this game have you actually played? That is not the Main Appeal, the Main Appeal is that it is a proper open world Space RPG. We have not had this before, with all the things put into it. No other Space game does everything Starfield does.
Big fan as well. A lot of Beth releases are dodgy at release but grow into something special overtime with dlc and updates. It is what it is for Beth games but starfeild actually had a stable, playable release which seemed a bit odd for a Beth game lol that’s the only thing I noticed that seemed different with this game vs other Beth game releases
The biggest flaw with Starfield is that Bethesda thought that they could make a giant space game without bothering to make a space game. It's doubly flawed. The typical Bethesda fan doesn't like it and the typical space game fan doesn't like it. You can't appeal to everybody, but you need to appeal to somebody.
I've currently replayed the game after not really enjoying when it came out... I've completely changed my mind about it and it is my current favorite game. 300+ hours!
i wonder just how many takes about this game come from genuine personal valid experience of people who gave the game a true chance rather than external influence (which might also be influenced by external sources).
@@acev3521 that doesn't negate my point. I'm not drawing absolutes here, i'm not saying that if you gave the game a chance you can't still come out of it disappointed (and frankly, with more disappointment, considering the time spent), nor am i saying that opinions like yours don't exist. I'm simply wondering how many people truly gave this game a shot before passing judgement rather than just get influenced by some other people's online.
Your Like/Dislike ratio shows how split the community about this game is. I am 500h in, did all the achievements and i really do love the game. Overhated sums it up perfectly. It is trendy to hate bethesda. I think most of the hate is unjustified. That does not mean that the game is without it's issues or missed opportunities. I wish the base building would be deeper like in fallout 4. It would be so cool if you could start your own colonies and properly set up trade routes between them
True, just look how Cyberpunk was improved from it initial disastrous release. It is now amazing on consoles, despite not having mods. StarField has made good improvements so far, which I’m really happy about, StarField still has a few bugs and issues (Like your character still facing left when entering New Atlantis) but apart from that ,I have noticed some real improvements. Plus StarField has console mods, so I’m currently addicted to StarField.😊

Just echoing the sentiment here, but I really enjoy Starfield as well. It still has some work to be done but overall it's still a great game. For example, as someone who has fallen for Andreja as a character, I wish she would acknowledge that my character worships the great serpent. (lol)
I'm about 20 hours into this game and once I've settled down with the controls and the premise of the game, I'm absolutely loving it where there is a nice mix of shooting and exploration. I've been looking for something to "replace" the likes of Skyrim, GTAV and Fallout 4 and Starfield seems to be doing that. Yes, there are other free-world roaming type games such as Farcry 6, Cyberpunk and Red Dead Redemption 2 but felt like they have fallen short of the mark where I thought perhaps I was starting to lose interest in console gaming, but Starfield is so far piquing my interest yet again. I've set it at 60 fps with Visual on but disabled the VSync and so far it seems to be working pretty well, there are the occasional stutter in the bigger open world sections but most of the action/exploration occurs in the interior sections anyway. I can see this game soaking up quite a bit of my spare time, and me being semi-retired that won't be an issue.
Playing the victim card for Bethesda is pathetic. Bethesda don't get hate cause they are Bethesda, they get hate cause of the things they keep saying and doing. I mean what other AAA studio would get away with plastering 10/10 ratings all over their game by newspapers nobody has ever even heard of? Seriously, like half of them are either some tiny local outlets with 3 staff or don't even have anything to do with gaming! Like one of those 10/10 ratings is literally by some Brazilian YT channel that review household appliances! If anything, Bethesda don't get enough hate.
Completely ignoring Gamerant, Games Radar, IGN (Japan, Brazil, España), VGC, Forbes, and the fucking Washington Post. The ones that you say apparently don't have anything to do with gaming, in fact, do have something to do with gaming. But yeah, but choose the singular one that fits your narrative.
@@4badlisting650Of course, they're ignoring it because it doesn't fit their narrative. There's a reason why none of these guys mentioned metacritic scores. "fast travel between universes..." You don't know the difference between "planetary systems" and "the universe"? You are traveling between planetary systems on starfield.
I agree. Starfield is an incredible game. The dialogue, options and voice acting are truly outstanding. I wonder if some people hate it because we can literally do anything, and get stuck in a rut of our own making? The one thing that really bugs me about Starfield are the loading screens. It feels like different teams wrote the code for the different 'cells', and then the cells were stitched together with a blank screen or some animation. I think at least 90% of the blank/loading screens could and should be done away with. Poor technical work for that one part of it.
Great vid man. Its nice to hear someone else show the same love to this game that i have. I honestly do agree that this is Bethesda's weakest (single player) game but the world they built captivated me from go and never lost me. If they made the same game with a smaller fully handcrafted scope and brought back Fallout 4's junk system i fully believe this would be their best game. As it stands i think of it as a good junk food game with one of my personal favorite settings to exist in, which is plenty for me
Yeah I'm going to have to disagree. My opinion is that Starfield is a typical BGS title. It's a decent platform for modders to create, alter and fix things but every other aspect is mediocre or downright bad. Which is a huge problem when gamers have waited for a game like this from Bethesda since 2015 Story sucks Characters suck Core Gameplay is Fallout 4 again Balance sucks Performance sucks Graphics are okay Then somehow the loading screens are even more agregious than past titles If I want to play that style of game I'll stick with Fallout or Elder Scrolls

Overall a good video and I agree, that Starfield has a lot to offer. I truly like the game, but I completely disagree with your take on the nightclubs and the lack of sexiness in the game. The game is hypocritical, that is the problem. On one hand you have lots of gay couples, drugs, crime, poltical conflicts, espionage, religious fanatics and on the other hand no nudity, no sexy dancers, np prostitutes. Not every game needs to be like Cyberpunk, but the level of Mass Effect should be possible. In addition I have some thoughts to the aliens: There is a sentinent alien lifeform in the game, Everyone who played the Vanguard questline knows what I´m talking about. Of course I know people wanted alien civilications, but I like Bethesdas human centric take. We have "only" 100 starsystems, the odds of other civilations is pretty slim. But Shattered Space could introduce a reptile alien lifeform, more advanced than humaniity.

I really appreciate your point of view on this game - seriously. It's annoying to see so many people bashing on this game for not being No Man's Sky or whatever, all while praising Skyrim or Fallout 4 into seventh heaven. Both games didn't work without a considerable amount of mods and/or optimisations when they got launched, but people seem to forget that and only see what they want to see. Sure, Starfield has its' own share of issues, but which game doesn't, honestly? What gets overlooked by so many (but not you) is that SF's storytelling is way deeper than anything that Bethesda did in the last 20 years. In a gaming world where AAA-games aren't much more than giant advertisements for microtransactions, we should be thankful that BGS at least tried to do something new and fresh. But if you're an average Fortnite monkey then there's a good chance that you won't get your dopamine hits every 10 seconds, thus you probably won't enjoy this game. People are so nitpicky with why they hate Starfield, yet they seem to lack any motivation to give this game a chance. But it's the same with every gaming community, toxicity will always be a part of it, sadly. No matter if you've played old NfS, CoD or HALO titles, or anything else that you have fond memories of, people will always find a reason to throw their standard copy-paste message of "new game bad, old game better" into the discussion. And that just fucking sucks. As said before, I really appreciate that you've made this video about a game that seems to be another scapegoat for so many braindead people and tried to put it into a different light. I salute you for that.
Thank you for this really thought out and detailed comment, I can't agree with you more Old game good and new game bad will continue until the very end of time, at least we can get comfort knowing in 10 years Starfield is going to be praised to high heaven as well, I can already imagine the millions of people saying "you know I always loved Starfield even when everybody else was Clowning on it" lmao
People have a reason to be pessimistic about the gaming industry, especially when studios get massive funding and churn out flaming turds like starfield. Why are people fine with studios regressing instead of taking what they learned from previous projects and expanding on it? AI is braindead in starfield. They don’t react when you shoot at them. Factions don’t matter as you only learn about their history at a lazy museum, and doing evil deeds if you happen to align with crimson fleet has no effect on the main story outside of a few quips from followers. There is a whole mechanic to customize your ship, yet you can’t even fly it around wherever you want unless you go through a loading screen in space and hope for a random encounter space battle. Loading screens constantly slow the pacing and very little “immersion” starfield had. Weird zoom in dialogues to look at the monotone expressions of soulless lifeforms when they speak as you communicate through choosing text and not from a voiced protagonist. The story feels very forced and linear as nothing you do in game holds any weight in the future of your playthrough. Even the start of the game feels dumb. A random miner on a space rock is suddenly contacted by an explorer who just gives you the keys to his ship Willy nilly? Where is the buildup to how that came to be? Exploration sucks too as procedural generation just makes it to where structures are copy and pasted to the very last minute detail from loot to enemy positioning. I get its space so things should feel pretty lifeless but it’s also a video game. Also, fetch quests are annoying as you often times are just load screening back and forth to be a messenger boy. Why can you not just send a message to someone so you don’t have to waste your time in 6 loading screens only to tell someone a job is done. Pure scop this game is
@@MitchSorenstein The coping is strong with this one. Your tirade won't change anything, and the arguments you brought up are known to everyone and not new. If you don't like Starfield, then don't play it.
Skyrim was a cultural phenomenon when it first released. It had nothing to do with mods. People were playing PS3 and Xbox360 versions of the game (where installing mods were impossible) and having the time of their lives. It was widely praised by everyone, enthusiastically discussed, and it made a mark in mainstream culture. This revisionist history where somehow mods were the only reason anyone cared about Skyrim is just Starfield Apologetics. Fallout 4 sucked though.
@@DDxRaptor exactly my plan! I played it for 15 minutes and knew from then it would be same old BS. Sorry but when a game claims to be an RPG and you can’t do things that an RPG allows, what’s the point? Why be a pirate if you are railroaded into a questline that has nothing to do with how you want to play? Why does Bethesda remove the sneaking UI to add it back as a perk? Why does Bethesda think it’s okay to make perks that don’t actually work? They release the game in a piss poor state so modders can swoop in once again to pick up the pieces. I’m tired of the fanboys that say “it’s a Bethesda game”. It doesn’t fucking matter. It’s outdated. It’s shit. Do better
I fully agree with your take on this. I really feel like we live in a time where people just love to hate on things especially anything Bethesda related. I really hope that it forces the company to only get better as time goes on and improve upon their shortcomings. Starfield has its issues no doubt, but it's a fully fleshed out universe with load of content. It's not for everybody but I'm definitely here for it.
Awesome video man 👍🏼! Starfield is a great game. Solid 8/10 for me. I love the outpost & ship building. I will be honest, I’m not too crazy about the main story. I’m not the biggest fan of multi-verse content(Bioshock infinite ruined that for me). Still, the companions and faction missions are fantastic. Also I agree about the Neon clubs. I’m glad Bethesda avoided the whole voyeurism thing. It’s not necessary.
I absolutely love starfield. I went in 1000% blind, not even knowing it was a Bethesda game and I was not disappointed at all :) I beat the main story and am still having fun exploring the worlds
Your point about Starfield being compared to games like Cyberpunk on social issues is accurate. I think it’s very unfair to compare the two when they are fundamentally dealing with different things. Starfield focuses on the optimistic nature of Space sci-fi, the wonder and discovery and escapism and while it deals with some deeper philosophical themes in its factions quest and Unity ending, it doesn’t become a critique on modern society because that’s not the type of game it is. And honestly, it’s refreshing to play a game that feels like that and isn’t constantly reminding you of real world issues. It’s nice to have a game focused on escapism and wonder
I totally agree on what you explain what kind of game Starfield is. It's a fantasy game, totally in Bathesda's way of making games. Their successes in the past prove that that is a formula that works 😊
Bethesda games always go through the same cycle. 1) Initial praise that’s short-lived. Then, 2) Absolutely hated on by everyone and anyone who disagrees is stupid. This phase can last a couple of years. Nobody wants to disagree lest they receive the wrath of the angry nerds. Then, 3) seen in a generally positive light. Then, 4) adored as a classic when Bethesda’s new game comes out. It was the same for fallout 3, oblivion, fallout 4, and Skyrim.
i remember when the oblivion horse armor mod came out, people were absolutely furious, wonder what those people back in 2008 would think if i told them we would have paid mods in the future it's not about hating the game, it's about push back, we can't let corporate goons destroy these beautiful universes we've built over the years
I have played Starfield. I really wish I could get past the constant fast travel speed bump. I don't really like fast travel in the first place, but requiring that many menus to get to a destination in the first place is certainly a decision. Not letting me set a course outside a certain range is even worse, especially if I can individually make any one leg of the journey. When I was actually a person out and about doing things, I had a reasonably good time. I was a bit miffed that the game was a bit ambiguous as to when the tutorial was over. I had no idea why I couldn't dissmiss the first companion until a buddy of mine told me to go finish the tutorial. I completed the "Apply for a job" series of jobs with Ryujin, which escalated quickly, before finding out there was a whole "THING" I was supposed to have unlocked by then that would have added some context. Got a cool office through. All in all, it was a decently good time horribly broken up by a menu armada. From their marketing, they seemed to imply a No Man's Sky style exploration system. I wanted, and still want, a system like that. It was a bit of a game breaker for me.
7 years, all the funding, all the hype, they should have done better and so far nothing said has changed my mind. Space ship building? Fast travel…Kingdom hearts did it better and that’s not even a space game. Weight height muscle and dialogue lines that change depending on your choices… that’s old mechanics aswell. Is there anything at all that starfeild did that another game didn’t do (arguably better)
This game lacks depth and the game design and presentation is dated most importantly for a bethesda game it just doesn't have that x factor that makes you love it at least for me .
No its trash. I'm playing through it again now just so I can play the Shattered Space dlc I unfortunately already bought when I still had hope for this game. It's actually painful how much I'm forcing myself to grind through it, I never felt like this with Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout3, Skyrim, Fallout4 (Fallout4 was iffy), or SkyrimSE. Everything from the planets, to the space travel, to the combat, to the cities and npcs in them are so half a**ed. Its like they truly gave up halfway through development for some reason. Just look at New Atlantis and tell me this game isn't half a**ed. The new center for humanity is like 10 high-rises (It should be like 8000 times that size) and filled with citizens with no day schedules like all past Bethesda games. Even Morrowind was more advanced then this title in a lot of ways. It's so lazy.
Thank you for such a refreshing perspective on starfield. I adore this game. It's so fun. Haven't been hooked a game like this since rdr2. You added so much context in this review as well. Mentioning how previous Bethesda games also weren't embraced at launch I appreciate you not being like every other TH-cam and just hating on the game because that's what will bring in views
Starfield left me so conflicted because there are so many half-assed systems, but so many good ideas that I wish were built upon. It's been said before, but god, I wish we had like 4 systems with 10 planets max to explore. All these empty planets only exist for the underbaked outpost system, which is a step backwards from Fallout 4 and a blank slate for modders. But the other stuff you said, like immersion, is top tier. There is a simple tranquility in talking with people and them replying like humans. Do you really expect the janitor cleaning the MAST transit to give you a quest for intergalactic diplomacy? Of course not, but it's fun that I can talk to her about coffee and move on with my day. The environments are all highly detailed and I love just walking around like a billionaire with nothing left to do because I just want to take in the peace I created by finishing all the major factions before jumping into Unity. This game was never trying to be Skyrim or Fallout, while those games are about exploring worlds, I believe Starfield should have been about exploring humanity. The problem is that BGS's writing team is too small for what I believe can push Starfield to that 10/10. Imagine if, instead of having the exact same companion dialogues even if you admit your a starborn, the writers had accounted for just saying that. "Sarah, I know how you were stranded. Let's go get the kid. She's still over there!" Then Sarah's affinity path was more about raising Sona and her insecurities of being a foster mom or you romanced Sarah so she comes with you through Unity and her dialogue changes whether you decide to lie to Constellation or not etc. I would make multiple characters, going though Unity for years just trying to find all the dialogue choices and playing it more as an Immersive Sim than the Action RPG it pretends to be. I love listening to opinions that are different from mine, and I liked your video a lot. I hope Shattered Space gives us all a reason to jump back into Starfield and give it a second chance.
I agree with this review, its weird watching the traditional reviewers twist themselves in knots to attack what starfield isnt, rather than praising what it is.
When the game came out I have tried it and dropped it after about 30 minutes. Now the updates fixed some crucial problems so I picked up SF again amd this time I played differently. This time I also check details and not just rush through the quests. I love it. Small things like when a mother gives the news to her daughter about they may get a house with actual walls(the are living on the streets) , or when I checked out on a random spaceship crash site and the survivals are gone but they were there for a while definitely ( note of how many days passed since the crash, bedding on the floor.....) There are things i wish were there like proper landing on planets, space exploration and so on) but the game is still very enjoyable.
I’m glad I could find one video from someone who enjoyed Starfield. But to me, Starfield is not great nor terrible. It’s the first time I’ve ever felt “meh” from Bethesda. I’ve played the last three elder scrolls games, fallout 3, 4, and 76 and I loved each of them and hated one but it redeemed itself. Starfield feels like an amazing ship builder with a boring, yet very pretty, world around it. Plus some RPG mechanics that( at least when I played it) gave me very little actual Outcome A/ Outcome B choices and the ones it did give me didn’t feel like they mattered. Thank you for the video.
Most people didn’t really go into the game from a RP perspective. Needs a few graphical mods and some cosmetic mods. Other from that the game is really fun, most people go in just checking off boxes instead of playing a roleplay game and actually role playing
I love cyberpunk, but sometimes I want to build a cool-looking spaceship and a base on the moon. After a few missions in Starfield, I get frustrated that gaming discourse often tells people to play Cyberpunk instead. While I understand that Cyberpunk is more immersive, Starfield is a perfect comfort game for me, just like all BGS games have always been, at least for me.
I have been playing Starfield since May, and I have really enjoyed it. I do have a few gripes with it. I’d like more romance options, as well as options that have a more ambiguous morality. I’d also like to order my furniture for the New Atlantis homes, rather than have to build it. Overall, though, I think BGS has made a great game here. I’m eagerly looking forward to the DLC.
There are no aliens in starfield🤣 they are just wildlife that you scan, nothing more. We want actual aliens that are sentient, strange. Not the aliens disguised as NPC’s that all act like they have Asperger’s with their weird awkward stares and lack of social queues
@@MitchSorenstein They look like alien creatures to me. You can collect their meat and stuff too (organic resources) and level up your character. What else you want to do with them, have intercourse? The npcs that aren’t just labeled civilian are fine and the civilians don’t really stare like that any more they're just not as detailed.
Saw all the recent hate on Starfield. Made me redownload can’t wait to jump back in. Although my save is corrupt and everyone in Neon shoots at me immediately.
As someone who bought and played the game without watching any kind of early reviewers, starfield is mediocre af..it isn't terrible but also not good either..my scale for games from 1 to 10 is 5 is the middle..and it's exactly that..a straight down the middle mediocre 5/10 game
Personally i love this game. First play through I didn't do any of the faction quest lines or the main story line either. I just explored the settled systems a planet at a time. Got up to level 200 plus, I amassed a small fortune over 200 million credits. I could buy anything I wanted in this game. And all I did was explore planets, I also didn't build an outpost. That wasn't even on my radar, This game has a lot to offer anyone that plays it. I only got through 1/2 of the planets that are in the game, but I liked getting side tracked with some of the side quested that come your way. All in all it is a good game, and for the people that don't like it, that is your loss, so piss off.
Starfield has a lot of flaws but interesting ideas but my final judgement on Starfield is going to be after Shattered Space. It's hard to find genuine criticism or discussion on Starfield when 90% of the 'criticisim' is regurgitated takes and personal insults thrown around.
I thought the game was really good. It has a few weak points, some of which Bethesda has addressed. One they should address is adding a few more recruitable NPC's like those in Constellation who are not goody two shoes that have similar stats. The ones in Constellation are the only ones that have more than 2 points in their primary attribute, but if you commit an act of direct piracy or some other things, they will get mad and leave your party. They should add a couple with 4 point attributes that aren't so clean cut for those who like to really play a pirate.
with the recent updates i actually love starfield it's actually fun and a cool game to play as a RPG not sure what people expected this is by far the most fair and reasonable review because this game definitely gets the xbox tax if this was released on PlayStation it would not be hated but celebrated and bragged about being another exclusive in my opinion.
I tried to get into Bethesda games before and just couldn't do it, I'd get bored. Skyrim, Fallout 3. But when I started Starfield, it just sucked me in. The story was great I had to re do it but more precise to my liking, I had to get it right. And now I do, and the gun play? It's top tier. I love the infinite ammo, I'm playing like the Punisher in Space. It's so fucking awesome. 😂 I think I can actually go back and re do them old Bethesda games and feel better with them, now that I know what they're games are like. But I have a feeling they'll just end up letting me down not living up to what Starfield is. It was my goty.
I first played it a little after it came out. I initially didn’t like it because I thought there were games that did what starfield tries to do much better and it disappointed me. Star citizen, no man’s sky. I uninstalled and refunded it. Just came back to it a few days ago and I began playing it and appreciating it for what it is and I really have been enjoying it. I still hate how many loading screens there are, kills my immersion at times. but I’ve been having a good time and that’s what gaming is all about.
Mark my words, in 2-3 years people are gonna come out and 180 their views, calling this game "good"... just like cyberpunk. Then they gonna give credit to themselves for "bullying" BGS into "fixing" the game. Happened to Skyrim, happened to fallout 4, happened to fallout 76 and it will happen again. The cycle continues
The cycle of Bethesda is really funny, I don't think there's been a single mainline entry by them in the last 20 years that hasn't been hated by everybody, then suddenly beloved 4-5 years later Can't wait for people to realize how good Starfield actually is
I wanna play the game, i dont have an xbox, but i wanna get a series s specifically to play it, ive heard both bad and good things about it, but tbh i dont care if the game is boring and stale, i wanna play it specifically for the ship building, litterly the only reason, idc about the story, missions, fighting, i just wanna build
People hate Bethesda games because Bethesda makes bad games lmfao no other developer has the audacity to remove player agency and have chatgpt do the writing
A true unpopular opinion, and a rare video worth watching. And people are getting so aggresive despite you not even being that mean to them, just liking a game. Gamers are weird man. Or maybe it's humans in general. Is this a flaw of that social animal part of us?
As a massive fan of Fallout 4 i would be willing to give this game a chance if it releases on ps5. From the gameplay I've seen it does look kinda boring in comparison ngl ( coz procedural generation ) but yea I'd cop it just coz i do enjoy a Bethesda game, janky gameplay and all.
@@shalindelta7 best played on xbox or pc though because the more you play on ps3 the more buggy the game gets until it deletes save files and stuff. just played new vegas on xbox one this year for the first time and i have never played a game where the decisions had such a big impact. you wont notice it when you play it for the first time but you can make save points and try out all options and i swear you will see fallout 4 as dissapointing too. btw 4 was my first one too but never liked the franchise until i played 3
@Snaaake_Beater I'm an fps guy which is why i took to Fallout 4 so well. I've heard good stuff about older Fallout games which is why i wana try it but to be honest rpg isn't really my thing. I may drop the game instantly or i may really enjoy how the story unfolds, could go either way.

I think that would be pretty cool
the main problem with Starfield is that , everything you do , its boring and not interesting.
I definitely love Starfield. Sure, it has its flaws, but the people saying it’s trash are just on the bandwagon.
It is soulless, bland corporate trash. Objectively.
@@MitchSorenstein independent mind he says meanwhile everyone dislikes the game. meaning its more collectivist to think the game is bad.

Same story, different game.

Themes like these should not be shied away from, and while there need to be restrictions since it is still a game, downgrading them to the point where you hardly notice them leaves a poor delivery on what should be key points of the game.
what city do you live in, kinda curious about your statement
"don't care about what is woke nor do i really understand it"
@@MGrey-qb5xz I don't feel comfortable giving that information.
The game isn't even as deep as a puddle. It's a disappointment lacking any actual substance
@@westerlytoast5763 lol yeah
I had some good times in it, the main story wasn’t the strongest for me, the ship building and some of the side quests were absolutely wonderful.
i tried mate, i really did. i wanted to love it so bad.
Yeah it’s trash
@TheScepticalThinker1 yep it’s trash bro
storyline/writing and dialogue is.... trash.
and an rpg can't move forward if these main elements are trash.
disappointed af.
Yeah I definitely understand that, some things are impossible to implement without making the game boring to some people
Like saying "realistic cars" might be a fun idea, but in execution changing oil, tire refills, and gas pumping could definitely get tiring fast
Thanks for sharing your opinion!
Honestly the space travel, loading screens, and wandering the Mojave would benefit a lot from having a radio.
That's the first thing I thought as well when I saw his character lol
I played 120 hours of it and can confirm it was a giant waste of money and time
Why did you keep playing for so long? What kept you hooked before stopping?
@@CrackedJust1n Because it's an rpg with a lot of content. I finished all of the quests I could find and then set off to explore every system. All I could find was some lady stranded in space, a station who's crew was killed by an alien and the crucible which did not impress me. I decided to not do the endgame plus universe stuff because there was nothing driving me to play the game anymore. No characters that I really liked, the cities are too few, and there weren't any quests I wanted to replay except for the shifting universes one.
Again, it's a massive rpg game. I'm not just gonna do 10 hours in it and then deem the other mountain loads of content trash.

I haven't played this and currently have no opinion on it, but great job sharing your opinion knowing you may get hate for it👍
I really enjoy the game personally. It's really not that bad of a game but I will say the main story is horrendous, which is why i use the alternate start mod and just make my own story.
For me, it was probably one of the more interesting stories in a BGS game. What was it you didn't particularly like about it?
@@SilvyReacts Honestly my complaints are to much to add here, but I'll say right at the start its crazy how you just started a job mining and within the first 20mins just get handed a ship. I also really hate the different universes, the only thing different from each other is the lodge and characters there. The rest of the universe stays the same and if they wanted to do a story with alternate universes this is just lazy. I have alot more complaints but like I said I don't want to write an essay. I do really enjoy the game though I find it much more fun to do ANY of the other faction stories and just explore the universe free.
@@hasearo7405 I wasn't a fan of the alternate universes either, I lost interest in the story towards the end to the point I never finished it.

I still prefer games like fo3 or fonv but starfield is still a great game just overhated like most games nowadays
Starfield rocks.

You, sir, just gained a subscriber. Great review! I will be giving starfield another try 😁
Dude, RDR2 is a masterpiece for real. One my favorites for sure.

If you like the game. Awesome. If you don’t? That’s fine too. I would say at least give it a try if you haven’t tried it since mod access. Like a lot of Bethesda games. Mod creators can take these(mostly)black canvases and do some amazing things.
Thats the main issue. Developers makes very bland uninteresting games and leaves it to the people to fix.
coming out near cyberpunk’s dlc was the worst thing they could’ve ever done
Thank you for this really thought out and detailed comment, I can't agree with you more
Old game good and new game bad will continue until the very end of time, at least we can get comfort knowing in 10 years Starfield is going to be praised to high heaven as well, I can already imagine the millions of people saying "you know I always loved Starfield even when everybody else was Clowning on it" lmao

Just because I spent 100 hours in game doesnt mean i was HOOKED. I spent that time trying to FIND the HOOK and I never did.
Preach!
i don't even have the will for 2 hours, if the purpose of the game is to make me do "fun chores" then piss off, i have a life to live
Then,
2) Absolutely hated on by everyone and anyone who disagrees is stupid. This phase can last a couple of years. Nobody wants to disagree lest they receive the wrath of the angry nerds. Then,
3) seen in a generally positive light. Then,
4) adored as a classic when Bethesda’s new game comes out.
It was the same for fallout 3, oblivion, fallout 4, and Skyrim.
Not really, skyrim was always loved.
i remember when the oblivion horse armor mod came out, people were absolutely furious, wonder what those people back in 2008 would think if i told them we would have paid mods in the future
it's not about hating the game, it's about push back, we can't let corporate goons destroy these beautiful universes we've built over the years
I have played Starfield.
LOL, forcing yourself to play something you dislike...you've got issues upon issues mate
@@4badlisting650 tell that to half the league of legends and Dota fan base lol
The reception of starfield shows the price of not going along the trend.
Thank you for such a refreshing perspective on starfield. I adore this game. It's so fun. Haven't been hooked a game like this since rdr2. You added so much context in this review as well. Mentioning how previous Bethesda games also weren't embraced at launch
I appreciate you not being like every other TH-cam and just hating on the game because that's what will bring in views
This is either total sarcasm or thinly veiled satire, and I'm honestly afraid to ask. This is just rage click bait, right?
The game has issues but the questing, leveling up, exploring and shooting weird aliens is a lot of fun and I think the game looks really good as well.
Mines a 9/10, with the two DLC's incoming, it'll rise to 10/10
Personally i love this game.
That was kinda my perspective. I just stuck to the handcrafted content and found it just as enjoyable as older Bethesda titles.
The cycle of Bethesda is really funny, I don't think there's been a single mainline entry by them in the last 20 years that hasn't been hated by everybody, then suddenly beloved 4-5 years later
Can't wait for people to realize how good Starfield actually is
I was surprised by how much fun I was having with it.
Thanks for bringing up how every BGS game is hated at first lol i love Starfield great video.
Love to see a Starfield enjoyer in the wild
I wanna play the game, i dont have an xbox, but i wanna get a series s specifically to play it, ive heard both bad and good things about it, but tbh i dont care if the game is boring and stale, i wanna play it specifically for the ship building, litterly the only reason, idc about the story, missions, fighting, i just wanna build
People hate Bethesda games because Bethesda makes bad games lmfao no other developer has the audacity to remove player agency and have chatgpt do the writing
Damn that's a wildly interesting ratio almost 50/50 in fact it's more like 51/49
I really love when topics can get people discussing like this, nothings worse than an echo chamber
From the gameplay I've seen it does look kinda boring in comparison ngl ( coz procedural generation ) but yea I'd cop it just coz i do enjoy a Bethesda game, janky gameplay and all.
bro go and play a good fallout. 4 sucks and is more a looter shooter with bad dialogue and not an rpg
@Snaaake_Beater i like it for what it is, an fps. I do have new vegas and fallout 3 in my ps3 backlog though, will probably play them later this year.
