One of the best moments was when Zeke was talking to Armin in the Paths. When he saw the baseball and remembered the times he had playing catch he realized the meaning of life-that there is no meaning. That life can be pointless, and is subjective to you. It doesn’t have to be grand or even meaningful. As long as its meaningful to YOU. He was finally at peace. That said a lot about his character, I think.
That's kind of what I enjoyed about the scene as well, though I did not appreciate how... simple-minded Zeke was when it came to philosophy. I can't tell you how much it gets under my skin when knuckle-draggers wax poetic about how life is all about procreation and survival, nothing more. It's like, 3rd-grade level understanding of circle of life, but many adults deadass believe such tripe. Life is what you make of it, plain and simple (though your choices can carry consequences).
It was extremely great for both characters. Zeke had looked at the conflict from a purely analytical perspective without an appreciation for life. Zeke realizes that despite what’s sensible, he would’ve been happy playing catch forever. That’s what he wanted.
I think Zeke just realized , it’s the simple things in life that mattered the most . He’d rather play catch with the professor rather then do the whole agenda he’d been planning for along time with the euthinization plan. Compassion really mattered in the end for zeke and it’s cool he took one for the team to stop the rumbling .
The transition between season 3 and 4 is still one of the most incredible re-contextualizations of a setting I’ve ever seen, it completely transformed the show in such a masterful and horrifying way.
... and yet people still call Season 3 the best of the series. I thought it was an interesting idea to go in a different direction and show the perspective of the people that were persecuting the Paradisians to show that the world wasn't painted in shades of black and white.
Charlie keeps going on how he doesn't understand why people dislike the ending, and he goes on to assume it's because the wanted a happy ending for some reason. But the people I saw complaining didn't like the anime going from "ok, this is ODM gear, this is how it works, but it still won't save you from a 15m class or an aberrant" horror show to international war crimes political drama with even the weakest characters being absolute titan annihilators with their actions, motivation and sometimes entire plot points not making any sense with what was established previously.
@@gileee That’s understandable, the shift between season 3 and 4 is almost like watching an entirely different series. I personally enjoyed season 4 the most since not only were the visuals and animations amazing, we start to see titans and odm gear as being small pieces to the overall painting and not so much apart of the main focal point anymore. Humans are ultimately just as, if not more, horrifying than titans are as we always find ourselves in a cycle of violence and war, and unlike titans we are in control of our conscious while we try to kill each other.
@@gileee I get that completely but listen man at the end of the day you have got to give a piece of fiction some leeway. Were it to absolutely stick to those standards there's no way to have achieved anything even close to this ending, which is the ending isayama had foreseen from the very beginning.
@@dawoodkarim1227i don't even think it needs leeway. They were cadets in a military branch, that never saw combat with other people, let alone titans, and when they EACH needed to become efficient killers, they did. I believe the show purposefully made the stakes high to the point of horror, so that the main cast could be presented as kids who could not fathom the changes of the world they would be a part of. The idea that there was no organic progression between seasons, i think stems from the show taking so long to release them.
It‘s actually pretty damn chilling to re-watch the moment where Reiner realizes that Eren has the founding titan… This realization of „shit… of ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, Eren should be the LAST person to have this power!!!“ hits now even harder. Because we now know that not even Reiner understands how correct he was.
@@teeranvoidthe episode where Hannes was killed, where Mikasa almost kissed Eren but he backed out then punched the titan (Carla Yeager) that activated the Coordinate skill (which will activate the Rumbling in the future)
thats exactly the reason why i somewhat disagree with charlie here xD i would not call eren a child its just that there was probably no better way to resolve this after all eren would have tried everything to change this outcome otherwise
The scene that hit me the hardest in the finale was that scene of the crowd on the cliff banding together to pass the baby forward, even as each of them was slowly being pushed off. Stuff like that always gets me.
btw, that's the same couple Eren sees while walking through the coastal town in the outside world, but back then the mother was still pregnant. And he knew what would happen.
My only complaint, and I said this a year ago, is that I think they should have released the final chapters as a movie. Seeing that climactic battle in theaters would have been soo hype.
I've fallen out of love with theaters, too many little things that just annoy me. i still go but i honestly enjoy watching high spectacle movies and shows on on vr these days, laid back with a blanket, good headphones and total isolation/immersion. only shitty part is u don't share the exp with anyone but that's what big screen tvs are for and also trying to snack is difficult.
@@exoticbutters8217 but the last episode was an hour and 24 minutes? That’s movie length, my guy. And honestly if you combine the final two episodes, that’s 2 hours and 24 minutes, which is still pretty much the length of a lot of movies these days. They could have literally released the same exact footage as a movie.

@@rishikkanthravikumar6596 SPOILERS AHEAD: im anime only and i fucking loved the ending. It ended beautifully with alot of emotional payoffs for all the characters especially at the end when everyones ghosts came back for one last goodbye. ERWIN FOR LIFE.
Seeing “see you later Eren” at the end was the final straw for me. I was already tearing up, and then that broke me. Definitely was crying. Such an amazing and fantastic show. I’m so sad it’s over now.
That line from Mikasa broke me too. Like I was fine I had accepted eren’s death but dam. Her one true love, the boy she promised to protect. How cruel the world was that she would have to be the one to kill him
Aot ending and realizing there you will never watch another episode of it feels like the realization when it kicked in that you are no longer a child. Truly amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. GOD DAMN YOU ISAYAMA
spent so long wanting to see this show end just because I wanted answers for what would happen, but now I wish I could just go back and enjoy the ride.
As a manga reader, the change that made the biggest difference for the ending was the additional exposition and the rewriting of key lines during the conversation with Armin and Eren in the water. That was all the difference for me as someone who was okay with manga ending but blown away by the anime’s ending.
I think it was a good sign that the author himself was even a bit dissatisfied. I heard that the ending in the manga was rushed due to the publisher putting pressure on him, so it makes sense why a lot of people didn't like the manga ending. It's a shame that the manga didn't end as well as it could have, but at least they were able to learn from that and tweak the ending enough to give the show a satisfying finale.
They add Eren concludes he doesn't have a good answer for why he did what he did because he is of course an idiot. It help but it's still a pretty horrible interaction and scene if you stop for a moment, without being caried away by Yuki Kaji incredible voice performance..
@@lezardex6335wasn’t just because he thinks he’s an idiot, he’s just so obsessed with killing everyone else and seeing the sights armin was talking about in his book
honestly didn't make much difference for me. I never saw Armin as a hero or a saint, he was always simping for Eren first then doing the leader stuff second. Im happy for the people who had a problem with that line though, apparently even the creator said it wasn't his best so thats probably why it got changed. Loved the ending nonetheless.
@@Walrus5 thats the point, Armin and Eren are both hipocrite teenagers and did their fair share of dumb shit. Armin killed tons of innocents in Liberio with that nuke transformation. That manga line made no difference for my perception of Armin whatsoever, but im glad that the people who got offended by that line found the adaptation to be better :)
The thing that made it better for me was the extension of Eren and Armin’s conversation. That little “we’ll go to hell. Together,” made things so much tighter. I love the ending now
!(sort of spoiler alert for those who haven't watched it)! I didn't have trouble with spoilers for this final movie but an hour before it was released on crunchyroll, I went to watch the final trailer on TH-cam and the 2nd video that came up was literally "Attack on Titan Finale Scene, Mikasas death" (the episode was released at different times in different places) I pretty much had a panic attack, (not because of the death itself) but because i could stop myself from subconsiously thinking too much into it and creating potential endings off that info. I finish the movie and it was hardly a spoiler, it was a great scene but the death didn't affect the entire episode like I thought. I was walking about thinking " so mikasas dies so does this mean just Eren actually doesnt care about her and just wins kills everyone and I already know what's gonna happen" but the ending was much more complex and amazing. It still put me in a horrible mood counting the minutes until the release.🤣
Just thinking about what could be his reaction is funny and is making me sad. Etika literally made me chuckle a lot and introduce me to twitch and live streaming part of internet. May you rest in peace Etika you will always be someone special to me and to others.
I began the AOT journey when I was a mere 6th grader. Now I’m graduating college and am about to become a full blown adult. It’s finally over and it’s so bittersweet.
Dude same I was in 9th. I really think had it wrapped up while I was a teenager I wouldn't have enjoyed the ending as much as a I did. I was so immature back then. I just wanted to see eren kill titans. This ending is actually great.
I think one really important thing that also got overlooked is Eren’s mental state, not just on the surface, but much deeper. People keep saying why did Eren do this or why did he not do that, and it doesn’t make any sense. To understand his actions, not only do we need to consider Yimr’s influence but also Eren’s thought process. From the moment he touches Historia, his mind begins being torn apart by memories from 2000 years pain and anguish. Both the future and the past coexisting in an endless cycle inside his mind. Reality, and what is important to him, becomes skewed. He sees that no matter if people fight or die, war and suffering never truly ends. (As shown in the ending when civilization advances and war continues) The only thing Eren can be sure of at this point, is the future that he can see. In this future, there is hope for Mikasa to grow old, and she does. Perhaps he decides that if the suffering and war will never truly end, at least he can give his friends a chance of temporary peace. In all his confusion, one thing that would have at least made sense was him mindlessly following the path of the future, the path that he believed was already set and unavoidable anyway. So, I think Eren did what he did because it was easier for him in a way and because, in his mind, it was a better chance for his friends to have some form of peace. And I think that’s exactly what Yimr wanted. Eren’s story is a tragedy and he is a truly broken mind.
Eren didn't save his friends after seeing that memory from Historia. Sasha died. Hange died. Levi got crippled for life. Mikasa is mentally scared for life. Historia got to marry a random Farmer Kun for no reason.
When he touched Historia, he only saw his father's memories, which contained some parts of the future. It was not until acquiring the powers of the founding titan that Eren started seeing the past, present and future together.
That "alternate timeline", in my opinion, is actually just a vision Eren shows Mikasa, because he didn't want her last memory of him to be him insulting and hurting her, instead a sweet moment they share together. You can see his face had the Titan scars when he was hugging her, because he was using his power to show her that vision.
It is indeed a vision, but since the founder titan can see past present and future at once it would not surprise me to know it was actually a possibility. Remember that Eren directly influences the past present and future with his "decisions"
It's an alternative reality he created in the Paths. Since Ackermans cant have their memories removed or changed, he transferred her to the Paths right before she kills him and they live 4 years together since Eren only has 4 years left before he dies due to the titan curse. The ED suggests that they reunite in the afterlife, at least... but they'll hurt me forever🥺
@@Blazer951 ackerman isn't immune to all Titan powers, they're immune to founding titan's ability to erase memories, also they can't turn into titans because their ancestors were subjects of experiments with titan DNA
I just finished Attack on Titan today and it feels like I'm going through a breakup. It's easily the best anime I've ever seen (not that I've seen many), and now I don't know if I'll ever find an anime that can give me the same feelings I experienced while watching it. Sure it was undeniably confusing at times, but the fact that it wrapped up so well with no lose ends, made it all worth it. I actually think the heart jerking moments have hit harder than some of One Piece's most heart jerking moments, and my mind was absolutely blown by the plot twists.
I have seen hundreds of animes, read mangas so I have A TON of Favourites. Among the favourites, my number 1 is Attack on Titan. I love it love it love it

I was 12 just turned 22, it’s crazy how long it’s been. I literally use to watch the episodes through someone reuploading them to TH-cam before they would get taken down bc I didn’t know how to watch it other than that lol
As someone who saw all of the criticisms of the ending in the manga, I can say that Charlie's theory is the exact opposite of what people were complaining about: they thought it was TOO happy and wanted it to be even WORSE for them lol.
I just dont think every single Alliance member should've survived the final fight against all the titan shifters, there was just a little too much plot armor for my taste but this is just me nitpicking. It's a good ending
Jean and Connie holding each other telling stories about the past, almost made me cry for the first time in a show. Man it sucks that this show ended but it was fun watching it❤
Yeah but it just again shows the bad writing when the literally come back to life 30 seconds later. I think the ending would've been perfect if they didn't show the cycle of war continuing. DID NO ONE ELSE WATCH THE END CREDIT SCENE, I feel like it just invalidates the entire anime and is a slap in the face. It just makes it so that this whole anime was just another small piece of the everlasting war cycle making it insignificant. Can someone please make those end scenes make sense because they just ruin it for me.
@@ssbeast101amv8 the making it make sense is that the story was changed at the eleventh hour, idk if the anime smoothed it over but it's very obvious in the manga

And I'm sorry that's just bad writing, a conclusion is supposed to show the reasons for the events of the journey, not that the journey was just a small piece in this pointless cycle.

Watching it whilst waiting for new episodes and seasons was a different feeling. Only show I’m glad I wasn’t able to binge (tho I read the manga after s4 got delayed). Having so many questions and theories but being forced to wait before getting answers was honestly an incredible feeling and I feel bad for people that can finish the show in a week now and get every answer instantly. Feels surreal it’s ended tho, AoT changed so much from s1 to s4
One thing I love when people talk about Attack on Titan is the phrase they use... "This show is a masterpiece of a show, not just an anime, a show!" I really feel like that sums up how amazing Attack on Titan is! That this anime competes with some of the greatest shows of all time in people's eyes who have seen it. Truly a masterpiece.
I’m scared of rewatching it because as soon as i see child Eren again in the very first episode of season 1, i’ll burst into tears like a big ass baby.
Rewriting the dialogue between armin and eren was probably the smartest decision - back when we all first read it, some readers had a problem because armin’s only reaction to literally genocide was “thank you for doing this for us” which is kind of fucked, got changed but the anime did it best. Also the scenery and setting of that scene was a lot different! There was no blood in the manga, eren didn’t hold any hair or teeth nothing, it just added depth to the destruction that eren caused
Yeah they added all that context for the people in the back who didnt understand that Eren was a bad guy. The guys who kept saying for years since the final chapter that "No guys Eren is the hero he did it all to save Eldians and his friends! Yall misunderstood the show!"
The manga translations were riddled with contextual errors. This has always been the case with majority of the managa I've read and it became much more apparent when the context really mattered.
fr the manga translations were honestly really bad we had eren say stupid stuff like "10 years atleast" and "mass murderer for our sake" good thing they changed it in the show
@maxk7746 If people really thought that Eren was the good guy, they wouldn't have been mad at Armin thanking him. People that disliked the ending disliked it because it made Eren look like a good guy, not the other way around.
"The world is a cruel place but its also very beautiful" - Mikasa, this essentially wraps up everything the series is trying to say and how it was executed throughout the series was rlly special
@@jibsonmadison i never claimed it was deep, was literally just pointing out that this is the major message aot pushes and how it goes about executing this concept through its naunced storytelling is very well done imo. @@deanward6001It wasn't the sole choice. Eren, possessing the Founding Titan's power, had the potential to secure peace or pursue alternative paths beyond genocide. But his character was instead predetermined from birth. A more rational approach could have involved Eren using his powers against only Marley, then the alliance stepping in as Marley became weakened. Eldia could have risen as a new superpower, and THEN eren could have ended the Titan curse forever, thus creating a nation-to-nation conflict similar to "Youjo Senki." Paradis Island could still be subjected to a devastating outcome later in the future, therefore showing perpetual human conflict a lot more subtly; what we instead got was a bootleg Code Geass. idk if anyone else felt this but seeing that post credits scene made me feel something pretty weird that i cant explain the best way for me to describe it is the feeling of the passage of time, it was bittersweet as hell.
I think the part that really pulled some tears out of me, was Zeke speaking about Ksaver playing catch with him. I think it’s a lesson to us all to spend time with our parents and those we love. I’m blessed to have my dad around and I’m definitely going to play catch with him again.
The real lesson of that scene is to enjoy the small things in life. Savor those seemingly insignificant moments, because those small periods of bliss, mindless running, a simple game of catch, is true heaven.
11-year old me in 2013 would be astonished by how far the show came. It's been ten whole years of experiencing a wild and long rollercoaster. I am satisfied with the ending and I honestly feel happy/honored watching this beautiful work alongside you all
The final take away I got from this show was that despite constant or inevitable conflict, you can find joy and meaning in the little things. It makes you think: I’m happy, “because I was born into this world.”
Literally. I find Zeke and Armin's conversation was so heavily underappreciated. It's Isayama's answer to the question,"What's the point of living this cruel life?" Truth is There isn't. At least, nothing grandiose. You can make it so but really and truly it's about the small moments. Those few seconds or hours where you go This is it. I want this to last forever.
And that every generation must fight for peace in their own time. Most of the world got destroyed in the end, but those alive didn't let hate and resentment grew again until they passed away and conflict returned after what seemed like centuries at least
6:41 Reiner said in season 2 that Eren was the very last person who should have that power and he was right. The foreshadowing in this show was outstanding
Won’t even lie, hearing you talk about how you grew up through college with AOT and genuinely enjoyed it really warmed my heart, because it was the exact same way with me. AOT was actually the reason I met a few of my friends that I’m still friends with to this day, watched every episode as soon as they first started coming out, all the way through school and into my adult life now. It really does feel like the end of an era
I was in third grade when AoT anime came out, now I’m a freshman in college when it ended 🥲. This show will always be close to my heart opening my mind up to greater anime’s. AoT is a masterpiece of an anime. I’m glad that it ended the way it did and had a deep meaning in its final moments, true beauty.
I hate people saying Eren was a crybaby and that "it wasn't in charavcter" Have they seen the anime with eyes closed? Eren's crying at every situation.
season 4 he barely cried like that and when he did it was over major character's deaths like Sasha. Eren's character was indeed ruined when he cried over Mikasa leaving him(why???) even though he was commiting mass genocide, things like that were to cry over apparently
@@SplicedEm How's it out of character though? Eren has cried at least once in each season of the show. Its established that he's a hyper-emotional person.
Can't believe it's over what a journey it was thank you to everyone involved in this show. It will always be close to my heart and remain my favorite story.
Not sure what you people would have seen in it for a long time to be frank. I haven't made it past the second season of the anime and even though I did end up finishing the manga, I was completely emotionally checked out for give or take the entire final arc. Good for you if you did get something nice out of it though.
The alternate Mikasa and Eren ending has even more meaning because of how he reacted towards her not confessing. Like you said, he was using her decision to decide which ending he chooses. The Eren commits genocide ending, or the Marley commits genocide ending. Her choice hit him so hard because he KNEW which path he had to take now.
@@tinytipmeplease Eren's path was predetermined by himself, not Ymir. His inability to let go of his hatred and his innate drive for freedom, ironically enslaves him. @@tinytipmeplease Even more reason for his reaction to make even more sense after we find out about the alternate Mikasa universe. Her not confessing told him the path he was going to take.
What I find significant of the ending is we see a slice of their world. It is neither the beginning of peace nor the end of suffering. It merely ends how humanity always has been in that world: in conflict. I think people were hoping for it to be decisively good or bad, but that's not the show's message. The show illustrates how the lines between "good" and "evil" are blurred, but we find meaning in the smaller things: love, friends, hopes for tomorrow, or just throwing a ball or racing with friends. It shows the world is messy and awful at times, and there is no solution to solve this. But despite that, we can find joy and still long for a better tomorrow.
Another aspect of the show in general I enjoyed was how the show gradually made you think more and more as it goes on. The first season, it's purely black and white: Eren's mom is dead from the titans, along with countless others, so they must fight to defeat them. Then the next season shows a bit more nuance, as the enemy shifts to other people trying to stop Eren. The viewer should still be on the side of the scouts. However, season 3 really does require more critical thinking. The viewer realizes even the loathed enemies have their own justifications for doing this. After Eren's first attack on civilians, it becomes clear that things aren't black and white.
Charlie you've got the opposite way around. The people who hate the ending didn't want it to be a happy ending, they wanted a 100% genocide outside the walls including the deaths of the main characters besides Eren
Tbh I was one of those people that wanted that ending but with time I started to realize that it wouldn’t fit with how Eren is written so I like this ending a lot more
@@bryansantana7695 @bryansantana7695 nah the correct ending is where everyone hates Eren even Mikasa thats the REAL ending all this Genocide lover bs just dosent fit imo. And people were like we love you and undestand you Eren rip my bruda.
As someone who hates the ending, i dont really want either of those outcomes, i just dont want Eren to have such a stupid and baffling motive. He literally starts a genocide just so he can make his friends defeat him and look like a bunch of heroes in a ridiculous sort of marvel avengers fashion, its so jaw dropping to me people seem to love this motive and it made people cry apparently, which actually makes me start to question the mentality of fans.
I binged the entirety of the show over the course of the past month. Imagine my surprise when I heard the last episode would be dropping in a few weeks lmao, I definitely feel bad for the people who had to wait years for the continuations. One of my favorite pieces of media ever
I am actually very happy that I had to wait 8 years for this series to finish. As much as I wanted the show to continue, I never wanted it to end. I’ve gotten 8 years of attack on Titan to work with. I had time to theorize and predict and gravel in the stuff I watched. I love binge watching shows but honestly Imo, attack on Titan is a show best watched in portions.
It wasn't that the manga ending was bad, just that the anime drove all the emotional beats where they needed to be and the conversations between characters were much more cohesive and sensical.
when i read AOT i was actually lost on wtf was happening.. fuck are these people i dont know, why is this/that happening. but the anime actually spoon fed it to me and i understood everything
The scene between Eren and Armin post-Rumbling, especially. It's the part that is extended to make it clearer that Eren is just a stupid idiot trying to solve a huge problem way beyond his shonen mental ability.
Armin literally thanks ereh for genocide in the manga. For obvious reasons they had to cut this out, but there are several VALID reasons why the manga ending was terrible.
As an adult I have a hard time making time for anime than years past, but I still made time for Attack On Titan. It's just so enthralling on so many levels, and it connects different times in my life together. My mom and I used to watch it together, but she passed away from cancer in mid-2022. It was definitely weird watching these final chapters alone. It's the end of an era, I will have to find some new stuff to watch. Anime has been a part of my life for more of it than not, and I want to stay connected.
I'm happy they included extra story in the credits. Such an amazing story. I'm glad MAPPA took their time and I feel bad for those who didn't live to get to see the end.
Man, I will miss AoT waiting days dearly. It's such a journey, filled with joy, fear, sadness, laughter, 10 years of watching everyone grow along with yourself. I managed to avoid a lot of spoilers (although some for latest chapters even with dodging were impossible), and it feels so raw, I refused to read manga for this one, because this story deserves to be watched as a movie. Really grateful to everyone who worked on it. I enjoyed the ending, despite it not being perfect or as how I could imagine it go. I checked manga reader's points, but I still think this isn't the worst fate. Post-credits scenes really made the main message feel real.
eren not changing is the biggest "change" I've seen in anime history. and i think that reveal or self awareness is what makes the character so well written. someone who wasn't there would be like what the hell happened that he changed so suddenly but he didn't its a mind fuck for sure
I still think that Eren just accepting he was a slave to destiny was severely out of character compared to the rest of the series, but to each their own. He always wanted to be free, and in turn became a slave to that goal. He always fought for his freedom, why would he give up now? A better ending imo would be him realizing that fact, and sacrificing himself to save humanity. This would also make more sense as to why he was so easily defeated by the anti-Jaegerists, since that was my biggest complaint plot-wise. To me, something like this would've been a better end to the character a lot of us have stuck with for more than a decade. Nobody wants to see their favorite protagonist turn into a villain overnight for stupid reasons. You just can't do that without fans of the character becoming upset, just like Dany in GoT. If you're going to turn a protagonist into an antagonist, you really need to nail their motivations. Which just didn't click for me here.

I've just gotten this weird feeling. I don't know why, I always avoided AoT. Never cared for it, never watched it, don't know the characters, didn't really care about spoilers. This leads me to my point. These kinds of "spoilers" were perfect. I still don't know the story, I still don't know how it ends or who these people are or who did what, I don't have any thoughts on them yet listening to Charlie talk about this with this level of passion, my wife and I have decided to start it tonight. She's already seen it and loves it, and was happy that I want to watch. Thanks, Charlie!
Congratulations for starting my favorites show bro I genuinely wishing you all the best for this journey❤️🔥 1advice tho AVOIDE SPOILER AT ALL COST! this might give you regret just like me :'
I put it down when it first came out because I thought it was just another anime troupe with the main character becoming a savior of their society but I'm so glad I gave it another chance. It was absolutely 100/10
I first watched this show when I was 9 years old and I have been following it ever since. I’m 19 now and it made me cry thinking about the fact I got to grow up with such a masterpiece and how fast time went by.
i was always happy with the manga ending, but I think the dialogue they reworked in the anime REALLY improved the last moments between Armin and Eren and was a way better fit for their characters
Did they fix the lines that everyone memed so hard? Or at least add additional context? Because those lines alone were the main reason I didn’t like the ending. Fixing those would dramatically improve things
@@ncramz1662there were a lot of lines in the manga turned into meme 😂 but let’s just say this: Eren simping is still there, but Armin thanking Hitler is changed
The best feeling a show can hope to end on is bittersweet, leave people sad they won't get more, but happy with what they got , to a point that they wouldn't ask for more because it ended perfectly

Man, Last time I'm holding tears from a fiction is when I watch Felina from Breaking Bad. Now AoT is making my eyes really wet. What a wonderful story to experience

Spoilers Seeing Mikasa behead Eren and Levi seeing the souls of Erwin, Hange and the rest of his squad made me sob like a baby. What a journey it's been
I got insanely emotional at three points: Armin's beautifully portrayed self hatred, Eren saying he is a slave to freedom, and when the music kicks in as Armin runs crying to hold Eren's head. Such an amazing conclusion to a series.
Reason people didn't like it in the manga (SPOILERS): - Armin and Eren's conversation was more lackluster. Anime improved on it immensely. In the manga he just mentioned that 80% would be destroyed and pretty much just that. Armin thanks him for what he tried to do, and that he wouldn't let the failure go to waste. - People didn't like Ymir's stockholm syndrome and parallels to Mikasa. - On release, there were less panels including that were added later in the volume release (mainly the bombing of paradis in the future). - People didn't like Eren's breakdown over Mikasa. They felt it was out of character that he would break down over that, rather than over the genocide. They thought while him breaking down is in character, it's the reason why was an issue to them. These are the main reasons for peoples dislike. The other criticisms are just screaming that Eren didn't complete the rumbling and lost. As someone who disliked how it ended in the manga, the anime greatly improved on it overall. People complaining about it are just those who can't get over the fact that not getting the ending you want does not make it objectively bad.
the whole Mikasa and Ymir debate goes wayyyyy deeper than just the parallels between them and people were also mad about the lack of relevance with historia
@@kabirarya5381 I think it's just more that the whole fate of the world was hanging on her stock holm syndrome. I don't think it doesn't make sense but that doesn't mean you have to like it as a plot point. The plot is basically saying that the only possible way victory could have been achieved is by her watching Mikasa kill Erin. There's nothing wrong with not liking that.
@@kabirarya5381 its not really stockholm syndrome, or at least its not displayed how that actually works. Firstly yes, people do not like how Ymir basically picked Mikasa because she parallels herself, Mikasa was a far deeper character than Ymir and was not a puppet to Eren, so the parallel doesnt really make sense. And remember it was said at the end that Ymir loved Fritz, so it wasnt completely Stockholm syndrome, it was specially said that he in fact, loved him, yet we never saw why. Secondly Fritzs death basically being retconned, it leaves many questions open about Ymir and her feelings. Remember that the reason titans live 13 years is that Ymir died for Fritz after 13 years of having her powers. Well the short scene where it shows Fritz dead and Ymir with her kids just doesnt make sense, her kids ate her at the command of Fritz and thats how the shifting powers got passed down. Lastly is the main problem people have is the message it tires to leave in regards to Mikasa's relationship to Eren and Yamirs relationship to Fritz. Initially we were told Ymirs past with Fritz started with hatred, and how that lead to war, and how that cycle continues up until Mikasa kills Eren. Well it changes that into it being about her love for Fritz and that doesnt really make sense in the context of what we knew, it felt more like it forcefully trying to make a parallel between her and Mikasa. (sidenote but it also really sucked that Eren and Mikasa never got to confess their feelings to each other, it was understood, but never said)
I didn’t think in my 30s I’d be crying over a TV show but I did, twice, one during the episode and after realizing there will no longer be AOT episodes. What rollercoaster.
Well, Eren kind of did win. Gettings the others to unify against him, eventually kill him and therefore being considered as heroes was his goal all along. He could have easily killed them all if he wanted it, but in his disturbed mind the whole point of the operation was to guarantee a better future for them.
Armin was the last of the group to visit the graves before all the main group died. Also thought it was somewhat fitting that Eren and Mikasa getting destroyed together in a war with a Nuke.
Nobody wanted a "happy ending". People shit on the manga ending because the last few chapters were rushed and they defaulted to the overused at this point trope that Code Geass pioneered of the MC becoming "the ultimate enemy to unite everyone against themselves" - Naruto tried to do the same with Sasuke at the end, but pulled back last moment to give an actual satisfying and unique ending
Also Hajime Isayama mentioned that the ending was "jumped" and kinda or rushed was because it simply was. Isayama said he wanted to have it done and finished so it would never reach chapter 140 because 140 in Japan symbolizes "freedom" which Eren never achieved.
The reason people hated manga ending is because of the few dialogues that were changed and the conclusion didn't feel fleshed out towards the end. For a show that has this much of a massive audience, even if it is a small mistake people won't take it lightly and AOT is known for having a toxic fanbase. So if the ending is unsatisfactory to them they'll make sure that everyone have to feel the same way like they did. I loved how they adapted the source material. I'm thankful to all the people that worked on this show, there won't be another show like aot for me.
Yeah, to add into this an example of a pretty significant dialogue change was Armin saying "thank you for being a genocidal maniac" to "let's go to hell together," which obviously sounds way better and fits way more Another thing is the post credits scene where paradis eventually ends up in war, in the anime it shows that the technology has advanced and it has been at least a couple hundred years after the rumbling, but in the manga when it shows paradis going to war it seemed like it was less than 100 years after the rumbling and people already started war even though the world just got annihilated, which felt a bit weird
Have to disagree. It might seem subtle, but Armin NOT thanking Eren for becoming a mass murderer in their last conversation, in contrast to the manga, is a huuuge change, especially for the morality of the story. People reading the manga ending hated how Armin was just okay with Eren killing 80% and how he cared more about Eren being mean to Mikasa. In the Anime, what Eren did to humanity was a much bigger deal to Armin and broke him. They changed dialogue, rearranged and even added scenes. Wasn’t a fan of the manga ending, but the anime ending saved quite a lot imo.
You guys always hide the fact (or don't getting it?) that Armin said "... FOR US." Armin said that because he was moved by the fact that Eren would go that far. He don't agreed. He was just relieved. I don't know what is so hard to understand that!? Sure it's a bit too much/over the top, but it does not change the freaking ending. Overall, nothing what the anime did, changed the ending. It is literally 99% the same. We even got spooned feed at the end because guys like you refusing to understand that shit.
@@kugelblitznb1682 100% this and I'm glad I wasn't the only one to acknowledge this. I mentioned this in another comment in that they had to directly say that Paradise's military was now superior because of the damage Eren inflicted to the Marley and the rest of the world, that line wasn't in the manga but it was pretty freaking easy to see and there was one TH-cam channel that made a video that brought up that Marley would immediately retaliate and try to kill everyone on Paradise Island, though the coward has since deleted the video, wish I could find it so Critical could tear him a new one.
@@kugelblitznb1682The manga dialogue still didn’t fit Armin’s character, imo. Eren just mentions he will kill 80% of humanity and other than an initial shock, Admin doesn’t have a strong reaction. He had a bigger reaction when talking about Mikasa. I love the way the anime rearranged the dialogue. You still have the more lighthearted interaction between them, but that comes before Eren drops the bombshell that he will wipe out most of humanity outside the walls. Armin is devastated and practically begs him to find any other way. The interactions carries a lot more emotional with way it ends with both of them having a full heartfelt moment.
FINALLY! An intelligent, well thought out take on the ending. I’ve been growing sick of how many people don’t see AOT for the masterpiece that it is. I’m glad there’s some people out there who can understand fictional characters, rather than insulting them for not staying the same or for having a complex progressIon in their ideas.
I don't think that's the direction most people were mad about? From what I saw on reddit there was a general desire for a darker ending. And I think there were the seeds for that? IMHO it would be very easy to consider, even with the way the show was cut, that Eren was covering his ass. He wanted to kill everyone. but since his friends insisted on stopping him, he was forced to allow them to kill him and all the flashback scenes were justification
I loved it at first, but the politics arc and then the possibility of it being explained by science being teased in season 1 just for them to later be like "oh its royal bloodline curse magic" ruined it for me. I like the characters, the setting, most of the action, but the lore took a dive once they resorted to royal bloodline curse magic BS
@@undeadinside3571wym it being explained by science in season 1?? Im genuinely wondering because I just recently rewatched the entire show and I failed to pick up on that
@@youknowwhat9911 i mean they left the possibility of science solving it back then. Attack on Titan was a wild ride this past decade, having both awesome moments and tragic moments. I'm satisfied with its conclusion to and I agree with the message that when one conflict ends, it's only a matter of time when another begins. It sucks, but that's how life is, there is no true happily ever after, but with grit and good people by your side, you can get through hardships. Thank you Hajime Isayama for giving the world such an epic and dark series
god i am so happy with the animes ending. the manga basically had a bunch of mumbo jumbo towards the end, and felt very rushed. it explained a few things but not much context was given. after the end is shown with the aftermath, the anime gave much more sustenance as to what it looked like and what happened. they showed extra scenes, which gave much needed context. the anime did great justice, and happy it happened, but very sad it had to end!
I’ve watched the whole show over the past three months, and it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Not even an anime fan but this was worth 36 hours of my life.

Truly has been a wild ride. I began watching in 7th grade in 2018 so while it wasn't the whole ten years it was still a hefty amount of time and now I find myself graduating this coming may. So for this show to finish right before I'm out of highschool is truly poignant. Thanks for the memories
I didn't even realize the final episode was out, just now finished it. I managed to go this last decade without getting spoiled on anything for Attack On Titan as well. I thank God for that, genuinely. What a wonderful and masterful story from start to finish. Truly one of the greatest works of art I've ever had the pleasure of following over the years.
We wanted a worse ending as in, a darker ending, so a worse ending for Eren in the context of the show, where Eren actaully pays a price for his goal of freedom, not this happy ever after where his people and friends get to live in peace.
I was a anime only fan and thankfully wasn't spoiled about ending and this last episode was beautifully presented, beautiful ending to one of my favourite piece of media
I first started watching the anime ever since it aired. Overtime I started reading the Manga as well. When I finished it I was dissatisfied with the ending but overtime I realized there couldn't have been a better ending than that. It's time to say goodbye to this masterpiece guys.
Compassion really mattered in the end for zeke and it’s cool he took one for the team to stop the rumbling .
monkey realizes the most obvious things known to monkeykind
I also appreciated the effort of showing how both Armin and Zeke were seeing two different things, each meaningful to them.
@@gileee
That’s understandable, the shift between season 3 and 4 is almost like watching an entirely different series.

Same with me. It was a beautiful scene and showed that even when faced with death and despair they still wanted to protect that innocent baby.
That was actually the one moment I teared up at. I knew it would happen somewhere, but I wasn't expecting it to be that.
The scene feels like an homage to the red dress girl from Schindlers list. Really beautiful and hopeful.

!(sort of spoiler alert for those who haven't watched it)!

Remember that Eren directly influences the past present and future with his "decisions"
is it not a plot point that ackerman is immune to titan powers?
It's an alternative reality he created in the Paths. Since Ackermans cant have their memories removed or changed, he transferred her to the Paths right before she kills him and they live 4 years together since Eren only has 4 years left before he dies due to the titan curse. The ED suggests that they reunite in the afterlife, at least... but they'll hurt me forever🥺
@@fabrypetty1689 he also said he could not change what was already determined to happen, so I don't think it was ever a possibility
And I'm sorry that's just bad writing, a conclusion is supposed to show the reasons for the events of the journey, not that the journey was just a small piece in this pointless cycle.
Seeing that end credit scene instilled the biggest sense of existential dread. Just seeing that kid enter the tree the same way Ymir did millenia ago. which begs the question, was someone buried in the tree Ymir entered?

Bro literally said
Thank you for becoming a mass murderer for our sake
And Weiner goes
Eren What a man you are
The manga translations were riddled with contextual errors.
This is as deep as saying "there are two sides to humanity, good/evil." It's not actually saying anything meaningful or grounded.
The final take away I got from this show was that despite constant or inevitable conflict, you can find joy and meaning in the little things. It makes you think: I’m happy, “because I was born into this world.”
This guy gets it!
Literally. I find Zeke and Armin's conversation was so heavily underappreciated. It's Isayama's answer to the question,"What's the point of living this cruel life?"
Truth is
There isn't. At least,nothing grandiose.
You can make it so but really and truly it's about the small moments. Those few seconds or hours where you go
This is it. I want this to last forever.
The point of living is to render unto God what is His. To make it to heaven.
Yeah, those guys could think that in the Aot world, why can't we IRL lol
And that every generation must fight for peace in their own time. Most of the world got destroyed in the end, but those alive didn't let hate and resentment grew again until they passed away and conflict returned after what seemed like centuries at least

Eren didn't choose anything, it was ALL ymir. His path was predetermined, remember.
@@tinytipmeplease which was dumb. ymir controlling him like a puppet contradicted everything he stood for.
@@tinytipmeplease Eren's path was predetermined by himself, not Ymir. His inability to let go of his hatred and his innate drive for freedom, ironically enslaves him. @@medievalplayz8327THIS^^ this single point is the reason I hated the ending
After Eren's first attack on civilians, it becomes clear that things aren't black and white.
exactly this @@Anonymous4045

Charlie you've got the opposite way around. The people who hate the ending didn't want it to be a happy ending, they wanted a 100% genocide outside the walls including the deaths of the main characters besides Eren

It wasn't that the manga ending was bad, just that the anime drove all the emotional beats where they needed to be and the conversations between characters were much more cohesive and sensical.
Exactly

The scene between Eren and Armin post-Rumbling, especially. It's the part that is extended to make it clearer that Eren is just a stupid idiot trying to solve a huge problem way beyond his shonen mental ability.
But it's the exact same shit - that's to say badly and convolutedly written.
Armin literally thanks ereh for genocide in the manga. For obvious reasons they had to cut this out, but there are several VALID reasons why the manga ending was terrible.

eren not changing is the biggest "change" I've seen in anime history. and i think that reveal or self awareness is what makes the character so well written. someone who wasn't there would be like what the hell happened that he changed so suddenly but he didn't its a mind fuck for sure

Did they fix the lines that everyone memed so hard? Or at least add additional context? Because those lines alone were the main reason I didn’t like the ending. Fixing those would dramatically improve things
@ncramz1662 nah, the main meme line is still there
@@ncramz1662there were a lot of lines in the manga turned into meme 😂 but let’s just say this: Eren simping is still there, but Armin thanking Hitler is changed

I'm not going to lie. I got emotional multiple times throughout the final episode. The credits and "The end" broke me.
The camaraderie between the crew brought tears to my eyes. Really love the cast man

Seeing Mikasa behead Eren and Levi seeing the souls of Erwin, Hange and the rest of his squad made me sob like a baby. What a journey it's been
I got insanely emotional at three points: Armin's beautifully portrayed self hatred, Eren saying he is a slave to freedom, and when the music kicks in as Armin runs crying to hold Eren's head. Such an amazing conclusion to a series.
Reason people didn't like it in the manga (SPOILERS):
- Armin and Eren's conversation was more lackluster.
Best take/ comment my man you nailed it. I disliked it too, but think it's a beautiful story anyway.
the whole Mikasa and Ymir debate goes wayyyyy deeper than just the parallels between them and people were also mad about the lack of relevance with historia
what did they think was wrong with ymir's stockholm syndrome? it's seems quite consistent to me.
Bro, same I hadn't cried in years,31yo but AOT changed that and I'm glad it did
THEY HAVE A SEQUEL, it's coming like 2024 sometime I think
Man up, crying because of cartoons. Manchild culture.. who even watches anime as grown up
@@marcelgowayou're such a neek it's crazy 😂
The ending was shit. They did not give us the Aoe
Haters didn't want a happy ending, they wanted Eren to win
Well, Eren kind of did win. Gettings the others to unify against him, eventually kill him and therefore being considered as heroes was his goal all along. He could have easily killed them all if he wanted it, but in his disturbed mind the whole point of the operation was to guarantee a better future for them.
I remember watching the credits after this episode and seeing the scenes go by and they get old and the world evolves around them, it’s a neat touch.
What a rollercoster of emotions the final ep was, the whole 10 years in general too. The music was so fitting in the last ep, big w to mappa for that
Playing a dancing song while mikasa holding eren's head is a good choice of music ?
@@markloberto1005 who tf dances to that song
Yeah, to add into this an example of a pretty significant dialogue change was Armin saying "thank you for being a genocidal maniac" to "let's go to hell together," which obviously sounds way better and fits way more
Another thing is the post credits scene where paradis eventually ends up in war, in the anime it shows that the technology has advanced and it has been at least a couple hundred years after the rumbling, but in the manga when it shows paradis going to war it seemed like it was less than 100 years after the rumbling and people already started war even though the world just got annihilated, which felt a bit weird
Their main protag reverting all the development he received over a magnificent journey was the issue.
YES, one of charlie's worst takes
@@RoyalBlur97chad eren simp
Dude it’s exactly same, maybe it might’ve flown through your head if you didn’t get it.
You guys always hide the fact (or don't getting it?) that Armin said "... FOR US."
Armin said that because he was moved by the fact that Eren would go that far.
@@kugelblitznb1682already resorting to insults before even partaking in a discussion like grown adults really tell a lot about you people
FINALLY! An intelligent, well thought out take on the ending. I’ve been growing sick of how many people don’t see AOT for the masterpiece that it is. I’m glad there’s some people out there who can understand fictional characters, rather than insulting them for not staying the same or for having a complex progressIon in their ideas.
It’s crazy how a really good show portray fictional characters as PEOPLE and not just some boring power fantasy character that never changes.
Im genuinely wondering because I just recently rewatched the entire show and I failed to pick up on that

god i am so happy with the animes ending. the manga basically had a bunch of mumbo jumbo towards the end, and felt very rushed. it explained a few things but not much context was given. after the end is shown with the aftermath, the anime gave much more sustenance as to what it looked like and what happened. they showed extra scenes, which gave much needed context. the anime did great justice, and happy it happened, but very sad it had to end!
