It's "very green"??? Literally I suppose, plus reusing old things is green, but the engine is too big and heavy, which reduces traction without 4wd as well as mileage, and of course poor traction requires paving or graveling roads. Some of these trucks had inline 6's, which were very efficient, and I would even call a 302 green, but with this engine it is only slightly greenish, only because it is reused, the second R. not part of the throwaway society.
The ideal engines for this truck are as light as possible to maximize 2wd traction and mileage, so I would use 200 inline 6 or 3.0v6, though it is not worth removing good engine or matching trans and bellhousing. some people like big engines, so if you can make it go, then fix and sell. I'm also not completely satisfied that the carbs were hopeless.
@@alan6832 depending on the transmission they may not have to. I could be wrong but fords 4.9 300 inline 6 could possibly bolt up to it. If not then they would probably need an adapter plate
The 300 CID worked well in many Ford trucks and vans of that era. A very solid engine, though a 351w, as Kevin suggested in the video would work as well. Otherwise, if I were Mook, I would drive as is with a new set of plugs, a rebuilt carb and a cleaned fuel tank.
I had a 78 and when you pop the hood you always have to give her a little tap on the top to get her to pop. The door replacement panels are crazy expensive to buy new so I went to all the local junk yards and bought all the unbroken ones I could find. I had sets of black, tan, red, green and blue. I also had a kick ass head liner with 4.5" round speakers in the cab corners. Those trucks with the split rear window are a leaking rust nightmare. All the split window trucks will start rusting the cab below the window. I replaced the holes in the floor with speed limit signs and other old street and then laid new carpet over the top. If you go with the 302 make sure you get the right fly wheel because some of them are different on the 302 depending on year and the wrong one will cause horrific shaking and vibrations.

@@hyzercreek You mean the song with the Flatbed Ford Truck, also known as a Stake Bed truck, you know the ones that the farm girls drive, as opposed to a regular pickup truck bed. What's those other lines from the song? Lighten up while you still can, take it easy. I know you like the really old cars, but I'm pretty sure the song is about a farm girl in a flatbed Ford, not a girl driving around in an old time flat head rat rod......If anyone knows a girl driving around in a flat head Ford, leave a message. I've talked to long now, Maybe Joe Walsh or Glenn Frey's estate can tell us just what that girl was driving.
@@otherstuffbybob she was driving a flat bed ford ,slowing down to take a look a him!!........I get so irratated when people quote lyrics wrong too!!.......not riding around
My friends, the first thing you should have done after you found that much water in the oil pan, was to find out where it came from. ….. from what I have seen, you should have filled the radiator with as much water as it would take.... then wait 15 min. and check it again. If it is lowered add more water, and wait 15 min. And then look to see if it comes out the oil pan. (you may have a crack inside the engine block and the water is coming from the radiator.)
I've owned many 351m and 400 Fords. Put a small cam, good timing set, cheap fenderwell exit headers, intake and 4 barrel on it. They are strong runners. Although they have lower compression some cam and ignition timing can work wonders. The heads flow well and will bolt right on a Windsor series block, but you need a few mods for cooling.
I bought a brand spankin new '71 Ford F100 and took it straight from the dealership to have it undercoated. That piece of junk rotted so bad before the first year was up that you could see all 4 tires when sitting in the cab. When it rained you got soaked from driving through puddles on the highway. I came home from a hunting trip and half the box had fallen off. The 302 8 cylinder rarely got more than 70,000 miles before they died. Never got one cent compensation from Ford back then.
Youthful optimism! Brings back the good ol' days when every rusty old hulk had potential. I hope you flushed the power steering, rear axle and trans/converter. That engine's a keeper, work on the rest of the driveline and you're all set. Grease everything up, oil the hinges, latches...Nice solid F-150 there! Nice work on the brakes, and try to find a junkyard-core carburetor for her? Drop the pan, clean the oil pickup screen. Best of luck with your truck, Mook!
That was a lot of fun to watch! Owning one of these myself, it was kind of heart breaking seeing the condition it's in, but awesome to see it moving under it's own power again! Mine also has the 351m with a c6 automatic, all original, still going strong. Keep up the cool content!!

I had a 79 Bronco with a 351 modified. And it was definitely nothing to brag about, but after it spun a main bearing we went ahead and put in 400 rods and pistons a decent cam 4 barrel intake with a Holley 650 and dual exhaust with an x-pipe. It was very respectable performing engine after that.

I’m over 70yrs and have been driving Ford pickups all my life. How to hang in to the finish. Really enjoyed your tenacity when many would’ve caved after the waterfall.🇨🇦
Mook is a sweet kid. Cute as she can be and funny. Reminds me of my daughter a ton. My daughter doesn’t take too much anything seriously but at the end of the day she is a tremendous help.
You guys are so awesome! Keep making videos. So glad Mook has a channel, too!
The Mook outro is 100% approved!
Get those brakes done and git on the road girl!
These old engines are rock solid. You can't kill them!
Even being full of water, I wasn't concerned.
A guy can see that you’re wearing a vice grip garage capalator. Well ill be dipped!!
Hey if this is who I think you should check out my 69 elcamino barn find supposedly outta montana. It has the minimal of rust ive seen b4 in my price range.
@@jrsgarage7623 Just another guy who watches VGG? Derek's SN is just ViceGripGarage. A lotta guys imitate him.
Right I noticed that tooo well I’ll be dipped a feller is happy that Derek and vgg vice grip garage....is being represented by these fine folks!!!
Love my capalater and well I’ll be dipped if a feller isn’t addicted too VGG show and the content and merch!!!! Awesome awesome
They should have done the right thing and just left the water in the system. It would start some time, just bring a bigger accumulator.
I don't know...
I liked the "Tim the Toolman's" hi de ho neighbor ending with the eye's!
I found myself falling in love with this truck, despite all it had been through it still wanted to live. I've wanted one of these trucks for a while now and now I want one even more. Please more content with this truck.
They are out there and for very reasonable money,my buddy has a 96 Eddie Bauer edition, that thing wont die, just keeps going, lol
I love this!!! the excitement the step by step going thru the truck got me excited to go out back and get my 78 k5 blazer running!!!
That Eagles tune “ It’s a GIRL my lord in flat bed Ford!”
Opening sequence with Mook!
Ridin’ round to take a look at me!
You mean the song where he was thinking of Flathead Ford but he didn't know anything about cars so he said flatbed Ford. Yeah. But there is such a thing as FLATHEAD Ford.
@@hyzercreek how in the h*** do you know what he was thinking?
@@otherstuffbybob she was driving a flat bed ford ,slowing down to take a look a him!!........I get so irratated when people quote lyrics wrong too!!.......not riding around
You can also fill it with Kerosene or Diesel fuel and let it sit overnight then drain it. Cleans like magic. A lot of crap will come out.
I'm not sure how this ended on my list of TH-cam recommendations, but I am glad that it did! Very cool. Well done, Junkyard Mook!
Saw it after a Scotty Kilmer video
@@TheSleepingonit Me too!
Same here
I saw it after Vice Grip Garage...
(you may have a crack inside the engine block and the water is coming from the radiator.)
i agree. i dont think it was a flood vehicle as there are not any water lines inside that i could see. most likely a coolant leak into the oil.
I put a couple turbos on my to get around the low compression.
Only did 550hp at the rear wheels.
Never had an issue.
Love the dinosaur engines.
I luv that truck. Reminds me...I need to work on my 1976 F150(460). But Ca says no. Not smog compliant!!!
I love it a woman who isn't afraid to wrench on a truck
I love “everything is going good, there’s just a little fire”.
I'm in love a girl that knows her way around a Ford and that likes 70's model ford pickups
Are you kidding me that’s the best kind.
@Marshall Davis she doesn't want a boomer like you
I bought a brand spankin new '71 Ford F100 and took it straight from the dealership to have it undercoated.
That was a fun repair. I love the 70's machines because we can actually work on them. It's even my favorite color. Sweet!!!
You are so right give me an old school truck anyday. I own 6 of those 70s Fords. You can climb under the hood and work on them.
I prefer carburetor powered v8 motor like a Ford y block 292 in a 58 ford f100
"It's what the people want" You are a riot, Mook.
Mook on the swing about the shirt on the website commercial is hilarious 🤣🤣 @26:10 @Junkyard Mook
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume the rear-end is also chock full of water may want to flush and fill that with fresh stuff
@Diving Duck a shattered planetary gear begs to differ. It can cause very rapid and complete chaos. Lol
You don't even need that. Just keep the water full...
You need to change the transmission fluid and differential fluid asap. The transmission will probably need changed 2-3 times.
Also the power steering fluid
Words you never want to hear when speaking about stuff coming out of the exhaust pipe, “Do you think we have a gallon yet”
3:13 That truck was holding it in all those years! The truck had to go and it definitely went! Lol
My first vehicle 21 years ago was a 1977 Ford Explorer custom. Thank you so much for taking me down memory lane!!!
She is such a goofball ❤️
But in an a extremely cute way.
She is the reason I watch your videos.
Keep being yourself.
"Opens hood with secret tap". Yeah, I think she knows what she's doing folks...
Hey Mook, thanks for saving and bringing that F150 back to life. We all owe you one.
Love how you guys have fun while working! Its very entertaining, keep finding them.
That was a lot of fun to watch!
Owning one of these myself, it was kind of heart breaking seeing the condition it's in, but awesome to see it moving under it's own power again!
Mine also has the 351m with a c6 automatic, all original, still going strong.
Keep up the cool content!!
We use diesel to clean out the engine. Drys the seals, but there's marvel mystery oil and Lucas oil stabilizer for that.
How would diesel dry out seals?
@@Anne_Frank00 it absorbs moisture from them, same as gasoline...
Should just rebuild the engine.all the gasket and sealers are probably shot
@@yuwaraaj1564 oh definitely, but if you don't have the time, it's a quick (albeit temporary) fix that anyone can do relatively easily.
You use atf bro.
I do dig some Miss Mook. Kinda reminds me of the Mackenzie Phillips character from American Graffiti, but just a touch more surly 😁
She's a lot prettier than Mackenzie Phillips.
Mckenzie philips, yes 👍 Something was tickling my brain. I knew she looks familiar
That's who she reminds me of too! Mook is a really sweet girl.

Carol, two point oh. And not a grungy little twerp anymore, lol!I think Milner would approve!
"It's what the people want, Kevin!" Lmao
Also I really like the paint on that truck
This very old female car head found this thoroughly entertaining. And I watched from the comfort of my home.
This video was made recently but somehow it's giving me nostalgia for a time I didn't even live. It makes me think of the girl I wanted to be when I was little. Very cool work on the truck!
She's wearing a Vice Grip Garage hat! I love that channel! I'm now subscribed to junkyard Mook, notifications on!
Oh well duhhhh!! THAT'S why it came up in my feed after watching Derek lol!
“Beautiful Crazy” describes Mook pretty well.
the ford f150 probably caught up in all the flooding back in 2019 in the heartland ..thats why the water in the engine is recent
If the engine was full of water, might the differential and fuel tank may be too?
@lahokc59 ATF works well for and engine flush. NOT gasoline. Hook the choke back up. It will run better.
in its earlier life. this truck was a submarine.
Maybe it's Phil Swift's Flex Seal Color Submarine...
Mook just makes my day when I'm feeling down.
Mook, you're a really cool person. I'm glad that your channel is doing so well. A half a million views on such a young channel is awesome. Keep up the good work and I will keep watching. Good job.
You should acclimate yourself with the q-jet more. They are actually real good carbs.
They are only a good carb if you know how to dial them in which is a pain in the ass but once done they will outperform almost anything else
@@Wesleystewart78 they are not that difficult really. But yet they work awesome when set up correctly. And will generally out perform most other carbs in a street application. But like anything else they are only great to a point.
Great carb if dialed in. That kick down 4 barrel sound is impressive.
Ik they are all I run on my SBC's
old school budget racing My day job is designing fuel injection systems and I agree with that. The Q-jet is my favourite carb, if I have to use a carb. I found them really easy to tune, as long as it’s not warped.
Probably would have been a good idea to service the trans and rear diff.
Exactly!!!!!!
It's a ferd, it'll be fine unlike those trashy GM products.
I was thinking that as well...
you could hear the trans pump whining.....
ive learned so much about carburetors and engines and vehicles in general from watching you two. keep u[p the great work!
Sweet ride...and a great couple. Hope they both last a lifetime
And cool truck too 😆
I love how Mook’s ad placement for the shirts was inventive with the tire swing
Am I wrong but that was enough to make me laugh.
Awesome, really enjoyed watching other folks work on the truck, I’ve worked on all my vehicles; Enjoyed the Video greatly. Oh, and by the way, much respect for the young lady knowing and learning more about mechanics.
Love it when Mook and Digs knuckle things out
put an aluminum intake and a 4 barrel carb on it and run it.
I absolutely loved this video. Long live the Green Machine!!! Mook, keep us updated on the progress!
NEVER EVER PUT GAS IN THE CRANKCASE .
USE DIESEL
Allways. Never gas!
Yep, gas is a solvent, diesel is more like oil
@@curtisj2165 use kerosine
I was saying the same thing.
@@ty2010 they are pretty similar but both are far better than gasoline
I’ve got a 79 f150 custom 4x4 and I had to do the same thing because of flooding. I drained 6 gallons of water out before any oil came out. I do have it running and drivable but there’s so much I still need to do to make it look and feel good to me. - a 19 year old South Carolinian!
Mook's a barrel of laugh's. Looking forward to seeing what you all do with this truck.
"The truck pooped everything out." Yes... yes it did. Took a dump on your garage floor.
460 shares bell housing and motor mounts!!!!!
This is the answer 👌🏻👍🏻

I had a 79 Bronco with a 351 modified. And it was definitely nothing to brag about, but after it spun a main bearing we went ahead and put in 400 rods and pistons a decent cam 4 barrel intake with a Holley 650 and dual exhaust with an x-pipe. It was very respectable performing engine after that.
