I started teaching my 11 year old niece how to drive in my 1976 F250 Ranger Super Cab, 7 years ago. You remind me of her. I also taught her how to do basic auto repairs, on the vehicle I sold her. Now she does not have a problem with doing work on it her self, other than not being sure how to do the job. She (and you) make me proud. A lot of young ladies are not interested in know anything about a vehicle other than how to put gas in, and how to start it. If you need any help, get in touch with me. I know you have someone who is helping you, but it takes a community to help raise up a community.

Cheers to you for teaching your niece! I teach my 13 year old daughter whenever I can. Let alone the fact that girls love to wrench and we should encourage them - we should encourage ALL young'ns to at least be familiar with the various systems on the cars they drive, what can go wrong, and what to do if something breaks.

Love this resurrection- I will say from my experience- once wiring has been "wet" under water, one can clean the terminal ends, but do not be surprised if this truck starts having random flickery problems with lights etc- wire is like a wick- the moisture gets under the insulation. Gradually resistance increases and you may for example have 13.5 at the starter (which I see you had to replace) but when you try and start it (put it under amperage draw) when hot you may only have 9 volts. Disclaimer "Your results may vary" :)

@@dpdmobile hate to depress you but ALL options packages in late 78 received the square headlights. My information on that came from a Ford Motor company employee. In early all were round. There are early trucks the have square headlights but they are converted because of accidents or an owner liked the square better. The gentleman who gave me this information worked for Rick Hunt Ford in Warrenton VA and an auto repair mechanic from 1949 till 1987. So I think he would know.

Truck sounds good. New Battery, new starter ... Now check the belts and the Alternator and you got the charging systems check close to done. Do a voltage check on the 12 volt battery that its about 13.8 voltage while the engine is at 1800 rpms or so. I used Seafoam in the Gas tank/Fuel system, and some in the old oil before changing it. Run it 50 miles, then change the oil. Then put in 1 oz of seafoam for each quart capacity in the oil crankcase. This will quiet the old engine. I have 174,000 miles on my 02 Ranger XLT 4.0L and the engine purrs. I do my own maintenance and I keep an updated a Journal for each repair by date of repair. Your interior really looks good. I like those bench seat, its the best. Have fun. Thumbs up always.

reminds me of my uncle's 1979 ranger he had when I was little. he bought it brand new and kept it 25 years. it was green and silver with green interior. also when I was little my aunt and uncle had a 1976 blue bicentenial Ford truck, my parents had a 1977 Ford explorer truck white with red stripes. they bought it brand new and kept it 10 years. my grandparents had a 1977 Ford truck red and white. got a lot of good memories riding in those trucks.

Learning how to do your own garage work is something else. Go girl!
My dad had a taxi company. When I was 20 years old he gave me a car. I thought wow what a dad. But the thing was the car broke down within two or three weeks. The gas pump went. He helped me pull at home. Then he put a gas pump on the corner of the kitchen table with the gasket and he said the wrenches are downstairs. Or you can tell it to the garage and pay $75 an hour and let somebody fix it for you. I learned very quickly the value of repairing my own car. Alternators. Batteries. I even replaced the starting motor with two broken starting motors using parts from both.
So now when I pull out $1,200 to have the ball joints fixed on my Wrangler, I realize the value of having a garage fix it for me. I could do the job myself, but I don't want to. I can afford it now. But I learned how to be a grease monkey at a very young age.
