Yay another good franchise for you guys to start, a lot of people had a problem with the film because Godzilla was used sparingly but Gareth Edwards found a perfect balance between what Godzilla represents traditionally and having action in the film, GODZILA KING OF THE MONSTERS is my favourite in the franchise then they get a bit to Americanised in my opinion but still excited to see you watch them all.
Hot take, but I like this one the most. The tension, the buildup, the way it's shot. Everything after just felt goofy and cartoonish to me, which might be intended, but I just didn't like it.
I’ve always disliked the running complaint about this movie-that there’s not enough fight action-but I’d happily trade that in for what’s more important: a quality dramatic monster movie with a true sense of scale. Director Gareth Edwards is currently filming the next Jurassic movie, and that sense of scale has been sorely missed since 1993.
I loved the sense of scale in this. You really do get the impression that Godzilla doesn't intentionally attack humans, he's just so big that we and our stuff sometimes get in the way. We're basically the ants on the sidewalk to him, and he's not exactly trying to avoid stepping on us.
I agree, this is my favorite of all the newer Godzilla movies because it's so mysterious and creepy, and when he finally appears, you only get glimpses of him and stuff! That's way better than just 1.5 hours of plainly seeing the monsters.
They sped the monster fights up, after this film, since people complained that it looked like they were moving too slowly. They keep getting faster as the series goes on, which is a shame it begins to look cartoonish. Your brain realizes, even just subconsciously, that physics doesn't work like that (Godzilla's tail whips would be breaking the sound barrier!!). I love all the Monsterverse movies, but the fights in Godzilla (2014) -- and to a slightly lesser extent, Kong: Skull Island -- are by far the most realistic, imho, because it's shot in such a way that you can really *feel* how massive the monsters are supposed to be.
Yes, as I wrote earlier- Aside from the 'Slow Monsters', many complained there 'weren't enough' monster fights. But most people weren't bored for the 1st 45min. Why? Because the material with Bryan Cranston's Character & the Wife is INTERESTING. Just like 'Godzilla Minus-One'. But they killed their most interesting & well-made character too soon and did not write the other characters well enough to fill that lack. Then, they Doubled-Down on that problem by going in the Opposite Direction. Instead of writing better Characters, they phoned them in & decided One Note Stomp-Fests are more profitable. Even with GM-1 showing human drama both elevates the film as a whole AND make more money. 'Monarch- Legacy of Monsters' seems to be filling in some of that lack, but any good characterizations there, need to be in the FILMS.
Welcome to the Monster Verse my friends! You're in for one hell of a ride! I love this movie! It gives us the mythology and lore of Godzilla and the other Kaiju.

In his history, in fact, Godzilla has been both the villain and the hero. The King of the Monsters has been shown to have a certain degree of compassion for humanity, seeing their flaws and potential. In these traits, he saw a species worthy of protection and fought his 15 enemies numerous times to ensure our survival. Godzilla (Japanese: ゴジラ, Hepburn: Gojira, /ɡɒdˈzɪlə/; [ɡoꜜdʑiɾa]) is a fictional monster, or kaiju, and one of the protagonists in Legendary Pictures' Monsterverse media franchise and based on Toho Co., Ltd.'s character of the same name.
Welcome to The Monsterverse! Here's the Film order: 1. Godzilla (2014) 2. Kong: Skull Island 3. Godzilla: King of the Monsters 4. Kong vs. Godzilla 5. Godzilla * Kong: The New Empire Enjoy, gentlemen.
MUTO is a generic term for all of the giant creatures in the Monsterverse. At some point, the name is changed to Titan, but it's not the name of the creatures that Godzilla fights in this movie. I don't think that they're actually given a name. Just the classification.
@@psychokitty71 that's because rodan and mothra are their own titans I'm talking about the MUTO subspecies(?) You have the two MUTOs from the 2014 movie You have the queen MUTO (nicknamed barb) And then you have MUTO prime
@@Cerato660 There is no MUTO subspecies. The two in the firat movie were not given names, but Barb is Barb, like Rodan and Mothra and MUTO Prime is actually Jinshin-Mushi, which means Earthquake Beetle. Like I said, only those first two were called MUTO and only MUTO. MUTO means Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism and once they're given a name, they're no longer unidentified. I think that's why they switched to Titan instead of MUTO when those first two were no longer an isolated event in the world.

Fantastic reaction. I really dig the Monsterverse and love this movie. GxK is my new favorite of the series (great visual storytelling and a lot of heart in that one). Hope you guys enjoy the rest of the films!
This movie does a great job of showing how delicate and fragile we are. Gareth Edwards has also always been very skilled at showing the scale of things. He did a great job in 'Star Wars- Rogue One', better than anyone prior, at showing how huge a Star Destroyer is, as well as the Death Star. The film as a whole is good, but deeply flawed in some areas. I know many complain there 'isn't enough' Godzilla, but that's not really the actual problem when you dig into it, though many might think it is. The problem is that they killed their most compelling and interesting human character less than halfway through the film and did not allow the other interesting characters to fill that void, while the other two leads were just bland. Ken Watanabe as Serizawa & Sally Hawkins as Vivienne could have filled that gap, but the writing wasn't up to it. Especially with Ford & Elle, the ball was dropped. Without truly good human characters, most people got bored & that's why they thought there 'wasn't enough Godzilla'. (Though of course for some people it's true that IS all they want.) Sadly, the next films have abandoned the quality of writing that got close to 'Godzilla Minus-One' & are now little more than One Note Stomp Fests. 'Monarch- Legacy of Monsters' seems to be TRYING to fill that lack & is succeeding to some degree, but has issues of its own.
