The most unrealistic part of the movie is that no one tried going backwards in the race. You're telling me that speedrunners wouldn't try going every which direction?
E
IRL they would have found it in the first 3 days
I remember in Ocarina of Time speedruns, its faster to jump backwards than run forward so all speedrunners memorize the routes backwards
Even as a person that found the movie enjoyable and really liked the book I have to agree with this.
@@forgedghost1062 just to clarify I also really like the movie, it's just that that part shows how little Hollywood knows of the internet.
All the anime girls were too busy fighting in the best waifu wars to bother attending the battle from the movie. The furries were all at a... well lets just call it a party. Let’s be 100% serious. If the OASIS actually happens 70% of the avatars would be anime girls.
Nah, I’d come in as Chaos Heart Luigi from Super Paper Mario, and open up black holes everywhere!
We’ve already seen it happen with VRchat XD
Possibly true, but most of time dudes pick female avatars because the customization options for males are usually hot ass. If I play a game and the female choices are much better than the male choices, im going with the better options
I'm a married 38 yo and I would be making a female avatar. Just like I do in most games I play now 😂
@@StMargorachI am scared for you, because most people should just believe you're a Woman until you talk 😂
imagine being someone in the bathroom and showed up late to the final battle after then bomb went off and u have a planets worth of coin and loot to just snag
... Well, never too late to loot easily tho 😂
The one player who gets griefed and had their loot stolen on a daily basis, until their luck finally makes a 180
It's very funny how most of the pop culture references just end with them saying "I still need to watch that."😂
It's like they watched NOTHING as kids which is surprising
That's how I felt reading the book. Still several in the movie as well.
@@zandylovesrisk never read books outside of the twilight book, other than that only watched movies and anime.....yea i'm not that big of a reader I just realized
My father is the exact opposite of Eric 😂 he will swear up and down "I've never seen this movie, not once!", but both my mum and I can recall the exact reactions he had to particular scenes and quotes, it's hilarious. It's been going on for years and he's still convinced we're ganging up on him
I've long appreciated that the only F bomb in this movie was reserved, as it rightly should be, for fucking Chucky
There are so many references in this movie, it’s literally so hard to keep track. Before Across the Spider-Verse, this was the movie you had to stop and pause to go frame by frame to see all of the references.
Sadly it's not more than that... Go watch Shaffrilas review of all Spielberg movies, he is very comprehensive and explains what's wrong with this one. Pleasing to the eye and taste, but shallow
Some references had to be changed due to copyright, like the Ultraman one.
you also have free guy and chip n dale rescue rangers for a lot of references
Into the Spider-Verse came out the same year that has lots of good frames
@@Krastinos I don't think there's something that wrong with a pleasing movie to watch that doesn't have a s-tier story.
Fun fact: In the final battle, there’s a Ruby Rose from RWBY hidden in the horde. When the movie was in development, since Rooster Teeth was popular at the time they asked them for permission to include their IP as an Easter Egg.
Wow, fair. RWBY was a good series, until they kinda just lost the plot after the creator’s death.
@@JacksonVoetexcuse me they didn't lost it, they made it evolved into something more original and interesting
@@1vis Yeeeeaaaahhh…. No. They killed Penny in an unsatisfying way, did the Bumblebee ship in the worst possible way, willing to let Ruby ultra kill herself until they literally go into her mind to realize they were being stupid, don’t apologize, and overall just seem to be winging it.
@@JacksonVoet to be honest, Ruby killing herself was a great move for a character because she aknowledged that she had to stop trying to do everything like her mother cause she idolized her too much cause she was kid, so she finally moved on, and will start to feel and act like her true self. I can understand how you feel about Penny's second death which was really unexpected and didn't like it that much at first but i like how this is going with Winter as the Winter Maiden and thats why i want to see more of her. And then im sorry but Bumblebee is clearly well written relationship and you really have to give me arguments for that. And don't tell me that the reason is because Sun is better match for Blake because im sick of it. That would be stupid and also your own opinion.
@@1vis No, I actually love Bumblebee as a ship, and shipped it quite a bit. What I didn’t like is how they characterized it. They made it so they reduced Yang and Blake’s characters to “the ones that are dating” and removed their concern for other characters. But the worst thing… is that they only seem to have added the ship in the show to advertise the voice actors of Yang and Blake’s Onlyfans. And Ruby attempting to commit suicide is one thing, but her friends utter disregard of her attempting to in the first place is what gets me. What happened to the overprotective sister who cared for Ruby like she was all that mattered?
Fun fact: there's alot of "the shining" references in most of the "toy story" movies
Tye Sheridan (Wade) is also the one play as Cyclops in X-Men Apocalypse & Dark Phoenix & a boy scout in Scout Guide to a Zombie Apocalypse.
I’m glad someone remembers that very underrated zombie movie.
Who could forget the zombie melons
"Warhammer that's what it is" the part of me that loves Starcraft just died a little
*Proceeds to mention Starcraft only 5 minutes later* Press F in the chat
@@nicholasromalo502 Which makes it more sad, he knows what Starcraft is but didn't recognize Raynor
I died a little as well. I saw it and I am like that is raynor.
Looked like a space marine to me lol
@@EpicRandomness555 I don't know Warhammer well but there are space marines in Starcraft as well, which came out in the 90's. Maybe Warhammer is older tho, I've seen the skin in Fortnite and they look similar, please enlighten me
My favorite Easter egg is when during the final battle at one point you can see Rwby Rose from RWBY in the background.
Me being a veteran of the internet, The fact that they didn’t realize on how quickly people will solve Easter eggs attest to the fact that they have never watch a cod zombies Easter egg challenge. Hollywood still doesn't understand the internet: the game: the movie.
That's all well and good. But why do you have to get it spot on?
Wasn’t there a cod ee that took almost a decade to solve
There's a difference tho. People IRL are lazy as hell unless money is involved lmao 😂
It's almost Like Hollywood is out of touch with the common man or something because they don't care and only want our money.
You are confusing the worldbuilding presented with the reality in which you live.
Here's a little something only someone old like me would know. When conjuring up the orb, the incantation used was the Charm of Making from 1981's Excalibur movie.
Here is the Charm of Making, as it appears in the film Excaliber: Phonetic: anal nathrak, uthvas bethud, do che-ol di-enve. Old Irish (these are possible spellings for what is being said, as Gaelic is a very strange language when it comes to spelling): Anal nathrach, orth' bhais's bethad, do che'l de'nmha.
DAMMIT... you beat me to it.
I love the constant tracer jump scares
Ready Player One was a movie I actually really enjoyed and I'm glad to see y'all reacting to it!

Ready Player One is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. I saw it on Cartoon Network a few years ago and I loved it.
It was VERY blurred but it was confirmed that Ruby Rose from RWBY was there but you wouldn’t notice it because it was during the car scene in the final fight so….fast paced movement
40:50 he would have been more op if he chose the form of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann! 😂😂😂
Best mech ever
I guess a galactic level mech would've been a bit too much, Gurren Lagan would've been cool though
If only he used the drill that could pierce the heavens
7:05 This reminds me of Runescape gold farming. During the worst of Venezuela's economic crisis a few years back, gold farming was valuable to us because we could make more money doing that than in any job we could find here. A lot of people got into it. Then, there was a country-wide blackout, and there were so many gold farmers missing that the Runescape economy crashed.
what year would you say that was
@@annakatherine2489 blackout was 2019, so prob around then. I think a lot of people still make money this way now.
Fun fact: the Iron Giant was actually not the original pick for the climax. In the books, it was the japanese super hero called Ultraman. But due to Tsuburya productions being in a legal battle with the thai studio named Chayo, they couldn't unfortunately lend the liscence. But knowing them, they would've happily done so.
My main criticism of the book is how little anyone other than Wade did anything. I know it is a hero fantasy, but the author couldn't let anyone else get the major accomplishments.
Well it was told from Wade's POV as I recall, plus Artemis did get the second key first in the book as well I think and she gave him a clue how to get it. Wade basically let fame go to his head after getting the first key and being the first to the scoreboard and slacked off on finding the egg for a while.
A lot of people didn't seem to notice it when the movie was recent, but Spike's ship from Cowboy Bebop is hanging from the rafters in Aech's workshop in one scene. It's not my favorite reference, but it was subtle.
This is my favorite Steven Spielberg movie.
Good to hear a fellow fan.👍👍
You have issues. Or you haven't watched many of his movies. This is quirky and fun but definitely one of his most mid movies
@@Krastinos I seen more Steven Spielberg movies: Jurassic Park Indiana Jones and Saving Private Ryan. So no, I don't have issues.
@@Krastinosman just cuz u think its mid doesn't mean they can't like it lmao
@@Krastinos tf? so if people like this types of movies then they have issues? tf is that logic
fun fact: the guy with skull chest is voiced by the same person who voices Robbie in Gravity Falls
Robbie is that hoodie emo guy right? Been some time since I watch that show
@@rule66ofc yes, when I first watched this movie, the voice sounded SO FAMILIAR so I had to look it up, but right before I saw who voiced him, it clicked in my head
The batmobile in the race screeching the classic 60’s Batman theme when trying to stop. That was a pretty cool Easter egg.
Because the amount of licensing mentioned in the book, WB definitely had to go a different way with what characters were used and the three key challenges.
The question is how much to buy each of their license? You know they ain't cheap right?
Ultraman was replaced with Iron Giant and Gundam.
The books for this was a lot more deep cuts of references, and the first key was indeed in a cave but I wont say where for spoilers in case anyone reads it after this movie.
Here's one fun fact for you: The verbal spell component to activate the orb and also destroy it, is the same spell verse used in Excalibur for summoning the dragon.
Y'all need to see Iron Giant, like seriously 10/10 movie. It is a crime that Boom hasn't seen it. And I think you'd all really enjoy it. :)
Fun fact: Apparently in the OG book, it was Ultraman instead of Iron Giant.
@@LiMe251 ooooooh, cool.
@@Qu1nt0-415 It is.
mortal kombat is like living proof that first race would've been solved within the day
?
“The book is much better than the movie”. A phrase that could easily apply to this movie.
Doesn't change the face this movie is still GOATED
I kind of wish they’d stuck more to the book because the trials were way cooler, but the movie was pretty good.
One funny thing that I always remember that this movie did that they had to change from the books is with Artemis that in the movies she’s called the Sixer fixer, but in the books she’s known as the Sixer f*****
I liked the subtle references to back to the future throughout the movie. You can hear that futuristic jingle when he throws the time bomb on the dance planet and when halloway tranforms into his normal self into the house. You can also hear the Batman theme when the Bat-mobile screeches in the race.
Y'all like this I think yall would really like who framed Rodger rabbit if you haven't seen it
I know a lot of people consider the final fight to be somewhat underwhelming, since there’s many things from the book that they didn’t take (from when I heard, there were actually star destroyers in the sky), but to me, it was still as awesome as watching the final battle of Endgame in theaters Day One.
Yeah in the books they have a freaking sky and space battles from each every other Sci-Fi spaceships movies
Wow. Comparing this to Endgame, a movie that was the culmination of 10 years of storytelling, interwoven movies, etc. etc. Yeah Infinity War was the better movie, but still. Not even close mate. I enjoyed RP1, but this comparison is just pathetic.
Well they couldn't use Ultraman because of copyright.
I also find it funny that the bad guy in the beginning served them coffee just like how Kathleen Kennedy did to George Lucas and now she's destroying his work
The weapon you couldn’t recognise chopping iRocs arm off, was the Glaive blade from the Krull movie(1983)
Akira is a 1988 anime film plus reason why mechagodzilla is in the film because Steven spielberg is a huge fan of godzilla and possibly king kong as well
I thought it was because they couldn't get the copyright for Ultraman.
Nvm, that was Iron Giant and Gundam, my bad.
before the blast hit me i would log out real quick, and then go back in to collect everything i wanted.
that final battle in the books was amazingly large a back up in space of people trying to get to the planet, dig ins for the major clans, ships crashing just from how crowded the airspace was. And it took 6 months for the dome to fall, also way more mechs. the 6ers were never going to win the fight.
As someone who loves the ready player one book, i need to say: the entire book has a bunch of references in it. But most of those references are to things that are a lot more obscure and/or old, to the point that a large portion of movie goers wouldnt know what they were looking at if they appeared in the movie. The trials for the keys were also almost entirely different, but the ones in the book probably wouldnt have made for as eye catching of a movie experience as what they changed them into. I was well aware from the moment that this movie was announced, before the trailers even came out, that they were gonna have to modernize a ton of the references, and i personally dont see anything wrong with that. The movie also changed the story in a couple ways that i think actually improved upon the book. I had a blast watching every minute, im tired of feeling like im not allowed to voice that opinion, and im tired of people that shit on this movie because "HA HA HUR PA DURR ITS JUST A MISH-MASH OF REFERENCES TO PANDER"
They had to replace Ultraman with Iron Giant and Gundam.
@@LiMe251 I mean, idk if they HAD to do that one, but a lot more people are gonna know those two than utraman for sure
@@joelbrich2538 Maybe that's a good thing, though.
never heard the argument it's "pandering" but have heard people just simply say it's not good on both accounts for book and movie
@LiMe251 I mean, that's pretty subjective, so who knows. Personally I think either could have worked, but I definitely liked the iron giant/Gundam more. Also, a Gundam IS used in the book, when each of the main characters chooses their own mech/robot to use at the start of the final battle. So it's not like the Gundam idea came from nothing.
In my therapy group a man told us about his work and life. After a few weeks, we began to understand that this wasn't his real life, but his life in the "game" 2nd life. He smoked joints all day, playing 2nd life, and his mind was convinced it was his real life. Wild! This was back in 2005. So no, I wouldn't want technology to become like this movie (and definitely NOT planting chips in my brain!!!!). But....finctional....yes, it's pretty cool 😊
Fun fact: that "first easter egg" isn't the first ever EE to be put in a game. Adventure was '79 and Moonlander, the current oldest title w an EE, was '73.
Although the Adventure one did lead to many more being the most likely inspiration for wider EE usage.
Mass Effect's Commander Sheppard was in this. That's my favorite Easter Egg.
This is basically “every child’s dream and imagination all crammed into one movie” the movie.
BACK TO THE FUTURE is a must on this channel!!
17:08 The War of the Worlds 1953. Now I feel old because I can't find anyone noticing it in the comments.
This is one of those rare times for me that I actually WISH they split the book into multiple movies. They easily could have done 3 with how much goes on. For instance, in the book, you not only had to find 3 keys, but you had to also find the 3 gates to open with those keys. It was such an interesting read filled with references and adventure. I know it would have been expensive, but gosh it would have been cool.
The giant throwing star is from Krull!
Loving this channel more and more every week.
I would have two accounts where i store everything I've ever collected onto that one, and another where i use it to collect stuff.
In the books The Oasis is even bigger and more important than they managed to showcase in the movie. All of the schools on the planet are now run through the Oasis, as it's cheaper than maintaining physical buildings and easier for students to attend without ever having to leave their homes. In the books that's actually how h and Wade first meet.
For a movie with the emotional fabric of a dumpster full of Funco Pops.... it's pretty damn good.
The Iron Giant is a highly Recommended Guys! It's a great Movie!
Fun fact: In the book, Ultraman was used, not Iron Giant.
I remember getting chills in the theater watching the charge it was so sweet
bruhhhhh why do yall always have a big conversation during the best part lol
Also zero out is an insane mechanic. Your best bet to get coin is to risk it all but whoever was there 5 minutes before you definitely has an insane advantage.
Good players would mostly just cannibalize new players or one another, but anyone coming in new would have little to no chance to ever get anywhere.
I remember watching this movie in my video game design class in highschool. Ahh the memories
Sonic the Hedgehog cameo in the beginning 😊 kinda sad though that I didn't see any Power Rangers, Megazords, Clone Troopers or anything else Star Wars related
The Orb of Osuvox was kept in the box that carried Gizmo in Gremlins.
42:34 I am 99% sure that weapon was from a 1980's fantasy movie called Krull. If I remember correctly, it was called a/the Glaive.
Could not be more stoked that you’re actually watching this :D
No joke this film is somewhere in my top 5 of favourite films I’ve ever watched. The concept of this virtual reality game makes me wish that we had it in real life.
LOVE this movie dont care what people say its all the movies/games characters in it.
You know what they should have done. Once IRok died, they just cut to a guy named Chuck who’s 300lbs in surburban detroit, living in his mom’s basement. Considering he also said he got 10 years worth of stuff i could totally see that description fitting him
Well, one thing people don't get is other than going backwards. You had to go full pedal down off the bat which was the first step to activate the egg, I sure people tried going back but with a wall there who'd risk full speed, they slowly back up and with no wall opening they assumed nothing there.
32:40 literally the mission "Living Dolls, Dead Person" from Digimon Cyber Sleuth
Dude started the great pirate era
The saddest part in this movie is that guy that lost all of his loot. LIKE 10 YEARS i d be surprised if he didnt jump of the building.
39:38 idk if this could even be considered a dystopian future. It has its bad aspects, but how much worse are they than even current problems. Plus would the characters trade their current situation to live in 2024?
The spinning five bladed weapon is the Glaive from "Krull"
Clicked so fast on this reaction, knew you’d love this movie!!!
I just realized this is the same actress that plays Alicent Hightower in House of the Dragon
Buckaroo banzai is and original movie that feels like youve jumped into the 7th part of a 10 part comic movie series with zero context.

That's like my mother xD
I still remember that a decade or so back, my father rented a movie via Netflix (back, when they still were sending DVDs via mail [not e-mail, actual post service]) and it was a new one that has 100% not been shown in free TV and only was in cinema like 6 months ago or something. So she could not have seen it (because she didn't go to the cinema at that time it was in the cinemas) and she was like "Oh yeah, I have seen that movie!" ... yeah, no ... she definitely didn't xD
What i remember from the first key, ot was under a skull shaped rock in the forest of a planet that had a school that parzival went in. He had to beat a Litch (King iirc) in Joust. But i reas the book 5 years ago so i could be misremembering.
My fave movie of all time? On Sorta Stupid? It's my lucky day!
They're making a Ready Player Two, and I can't wait
King said in an interview he didn't know he wrote the Shinning until his publisher called. He was drinking so hard at the time he filled 2 rolling trash cans with empty bottles in like a week. He died out after the call. It really says something that king hated the movie after having to blind read his own book.
Lmao “the oxygen” that’s great 😂
Guys, did Sorta Stupid watch season 3 Ducktales or the later series of Ben 10 in their patreon??? I'm also asking you, Sorta Stupid crew
You guys are so much fun to watch movies with, it’s greats to have like minded people when watching movies. Cause the alternative sucks ❤
The incantation to activate the orb is from the movie Excalibur
For a follow up video there is videos of showing every easteregg/cameo that you missed so
Movie Side Note
The OG movie creators have decided to make The Oasis a reality. The game trial version was Quest 1 released years ago.
FREELAND VR is a vr game that's similar to RP1/The Oasis. It's been in beta tests.
1:40 funniest intro ever
The Krull Glaive that cut off I-Rokk's arm is my personal fave. Man that movie was iffy

Lol, I'm only halfway through this posting but had to pause to say of all the flicks yer so far tallying to get around to, PLEASE put Buckaroo Banzai at the top of the list... 😂
Also, I gotta say, it put a small lump in my throat seeing the ole batmobile up on the big screen again.
My favorite part is when the Godzilla theme comes in when mechagodzilla appears
My favorite movie of all time! Loved seeing you react to the best parts, especially the final battle!
I was so mad watching this in theaters because they changed it from the book SO much, but I recently rewatched it with a clear mind and it's pretty fun (especially if you haven't read the book yet lol). But seriously, read the book. It's fantastic.
nah Nolan's got that Superman skin
The curved 5 blade was from the movie Krull. Or a similar weapon used in Alien vs Predator. But based on the 80s references I would pick Krull.
Yeah, guys. This movie was essentially a love letter to all the gamers out there in the world and, as being one myself, it has my approval, 100%. The visual effects in this one was so top-notch that it was a nominee at the Oscars back in the day. When Boom said “I ain’t telling you s**t”, I was like “That’s what I said” and when Eric said “You punk ass”, I said that too. 😂
Everything about it was insane and with so many Easter Eggs, our minds can only process that much information and as for your question relating to that, my favorite one is seeing, my boy, Sonic the Hedgehog. In fact, if you rewind a bit, you get to see him in the far right in the corner as Wade explains how everyone can be anything with the camera panel moving on and when the battle is being focused, you see Sonic running and does a homing attack with a blue streak. 🦔💙 When Ruff mentioned about people being arrested for committing crimes in a cybernetic level, it reminded me of the time when Yuji Naka, the co-creator of Sonic, had been apprehended for dealing some things in the internet economy.
Ben Mendelssohn, the man who portrayed Nolan Sorrento has indeed been an antagonist in most of his works that my first time seeing him is one of the Star Wars films that you guys haven’t seen yet. Lastly, I love how because the contest revolves around Halliday, you literally had to think like him; hence the existence of his journals and Morrow being the curator since he’s the one person who knew him better than most people. In the conclusion, I was so touched on what he said about how the gaming world is the ultimate form of escapism and because of that, we can’t live in it but, at the same time, it’s not really living. I mean, how else can you truly appreciate the little things in life? That is why he created the OASIS: for the people; those who will truly value his gift to the world. The one thing that Sorrento could never do since he was all about the money.
*ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME*
*pure as honey fan service*
I like the Shining movie and book, but theyre both different from each other, just like the Ready Player One book and movie to me.
