I agree with you on all seven - in fact I’d add three more: long nail extensions (on old hands), hair scraped back in a too-tight ponytail and brassy yellow hair.
I definitely agree with the long fingernails. It does nothing for aging hands. And no slick back hair for me ever. That's a good way to develop traction alopecia if done on a consistent basis.
I also think when the nails are a bit too wide or square or thick … this is usually for extensions, even if a moderate length (sometimes gel too )- I know that’s a style, but it looks, to me, like it ages the hands - it’s just the thickness or wideness …I’m not exactly sure how to explain, bc square and a bit thicker than natural can still look good - but sometimes I even see the nail widens at the top - it’s subtle really - I think it elongates and makes more elegant/natural/youthful if the square shape is slightly narrowed toward the the top of nail - and careful not to thicken the nail too much - it’s a super subtle shape tweak
I’ve seen plenty of older women with short hair that look great as well as others with long hair that look great. Choosing a hair style when you are older is no different than choosing one when you are young. What looks best on a particular person depends on their face shape as well as hair texture and thickness. Let’s please throw rules out the window with regards to aging and hair styles.
Sorry disagree. There are women who do look good with short hair or very long but by far the majority look best with medium length ie snitching length or collar length
You have read my mind on all of these things! The 2 things I would add are those fake, thick eyelashes (that seem to drag the eye down), and those long, fake pointy nails. So unflattering imho.,❤
I totally agree with you on the seven mistakes. Especially about tattoos and piercings! I don’t have any but I see women who are full body covered with tattoos! Why? And how will age these tattoos when your skin is sagging? And this short haircut on older women is terrible. I loved your video and your advices and immediately subscribed. Have a great day 🙂👋
Thank you - and yes agree re teeth too. Although I didn't want to mention teeth as dentistry in the UK is not what it should be and my teeth are not by any means perfect 🙂
Veneers (porcelain, of course) are the bomb, fortunately mine were done in the 90's and not as expensive. They have held their good color and they look more attractive than most real teeth.
I agree with everything you said in this video. And I generally don't like tattoos. But after someone I loved died, I got a tattoo with his last words tattooed on my arm. Because of the nature of my tattoo, I don't care who thinks whatever about it, it's there for me as a reminder of someone who loved me when things get rough.
I slowed down with my makeup application after noticing the older woman on The Real Housewives shows. When fresh faced with minimal makeup the woman looked 10-15 years younger than when in full glam. This is with professional makeup artists applying makeup for them. I am a person who loves makeup and the ritual of putting it on but I look much better with less.
I have just found your channel….and I am thrilled! At 72 years young, your points are well taken. I know too that some will disagree, and we should do our hair, our makeup, etc in the way we prefer. However, sometimes I wonder ….does she have any friends who will tell her hard truths!🤪 I had to laugh hardest at the “Old lady haircut”. My hairdresser , who is in her late 30’s , has NEVER suggested this to me. I was heartened to see your thin, fine hair cut as mine with bangs. I keep it about shoulder length and can easily pull it back. And I feel the bangs soften the facial features. Thanks for a lovely video….on to watch more now. You are a very happy find. Be well❤😊
Oh thank you so much Bobbie, that's so kind of you! I am really pleased with my new hairdresser- I actually hadnt had a hair cut for 18 months until four weeks ago - that's lockdown for you! One of my subscribers suggested I go for bangs and I'm glad I did. Have a great rest of your week ❤
I've wondered why, oh why, do almost all women not have bangs. Many look awful with all of their hair pulled back, or just hanging down, with their entire face exposed showing their imperfect hairlines and misshapen faces. Many would look so much better with just a wispy bang.
Somehow I find myself 65 years old, and I still have long hair ... but with layers and bangs/fringes. I see it as my personal style, and am glad there are no style police running around telling me I'm too old for it. The old rules about what was 'appropriate' for different ages and phases are thankfully gone! I did want to compliment you particularly on what you said in #2: that your subscribers advised you to soften your brows, and you listened to them. To me, that is is quite a display of grace on your part! Gentle, sincere critique can open our eyes to rather easy changes. Good on you! I'm a new subscriber, and I look forward to hearing more of your ideas!
I agree with everything you said. Sound advice for sure. Another suggestion perhaps is lip liner that is darker than the lip stick shade…and black eyeliner under lower lashes. It makes me crazy!!! 😂
❤ your video! One point here, if your eyelashes have gone really thin and short like mine, a subtle false eyelash can be your best friend. I wear them alone without any other eye makeup. No liner or shadow. On me it really helps to define my eyes and looks very natural. It does take a bit of practice to get them on right, but once you get it, it's very fast to do.
@mettamorph4523 I agree that on some people a few individual lashes look better than a whole strip. But where you want to place them depends on your eye shape, eyebrow shape, and face shape. On me, for instance, I do not want to emphasize the outer corners of my eyes as they are already upturned. I prefer to have the longest lashes in the center of the eye, i.e., the rounded style lash not the wing style. That's why there are so many lash styles out there! Also, I find it much faster (and prettier) to apply a strip than individuals! I use wispy lashes with a clear band so they look natural. It's all about finding what looks good on you!
New subscriber! I'm almost 70. I can't applaude you enough about tattoos, and wild piercings! I've always thought that tattoos were not only unnecessary but ugly! Absolutely ppl don't think ahead what their skin will look like older, and colorful tattoos on older skin will fade underneath crepy flesh...it's ugly, and they're rather permanent! And piercings..it's just too much, and it, too, can really look ugly, and these ideas thus diminish the feminine beauty that should be every woman's goal esp as we get older. Additionally, these "witchy" looking nails .. they are horrible😮! I also agree with the other statements about beauty mistakes that you said as well!❤
Thanks so much! I sometimes wonder whether I would have succumbed to the tattoo craze if I'd been born in the 70s or 80s - I did once shave my eyebrows off!
I agree with all you have said. I follow all the points you make about make-up and hair, and I'm amazed at how many women just give up bothering with their appearance as they get older. I hate tattoos as well, would never have one. My sons toyed with getting one or two when teens, but knew I'd go mad. Now in their 30's, all are tattoo free and actually really quite pleased they didn't get any.
Thank you so much! My kids are also in their 30s, one is tattoo free, the other has a couple, but not visible. I think we were lucky it wasn't the rage when we were in our teens I guess!
Absolutely agree with all seven. Very refreshing to listen to a video from someone that’s in the same generation! I’m now going to digest the rest of your videos. Thank you.
Totally agree with you regarding tattoos especially on the face or neck! Those of us who are older know to well where tattoos will end up as our skin sags. Donna
I think Hele Mirrens long white hair is most unflattering It's harsh, colorless and and aging. She's had shorter, fuller, softer styles that looked infinitely better
I appreciate your honest comments, and being so willing to take flack for it. Because you are genuinely trying to help people look better and they do not see what they look like to others and I don’t think they have a mirror so they can see what they look like from behind too! Some women in their 50s 60s 70s 80s where tights without a skirt and even though it may be comfortable for them it is unsightly and not good role modeling for younger women .
I am 69 & have 2 small tatoos. 1 of a small butterfly on my upper back near right shoulder & a small vine with 2 lady bugs on my right ankle. Both were gotten in my 40's. I like them but would not get anymore.
There are many, many temporary tattoos. I agree- I have been a professional MUA for many years- you can definitely cover them but why go through all that expense and pain! ❤ It is so easy to look better, fresher, more alert, prettier with a bit of makeup. Like RuPaul says, “I know beauty is skin deep but a little Revlon doesn’t hurt anyone!” Thank you for your video! ❤
I agree with you 💯 percent! I do have 3 tattoos for which I never asked for. 3 dots for radiation due to breast cancer. But I wear with pride. Every thing else you are spot on it's a weird world we live in but I guess you all can do what they wish. ❤
Oh my gosh, of course - some women have nipples tattooed on after breast cancer surgery I believe. Thanks so much for watching and commenting - I was a bit nervous about putting this out there, but its great to read so many positive comments!
Oh my goodness. I didn’t think anyone remembered Tressie the doll that’s hair grew out of her head by pushing a button on her belly. I had one too. I didn’t have a Barbie but I did have one of those. And I agree with all your suggestions.
The character "Marjorie" on "Mom" was an example of old lady vests. And stylists for actors KNOW what clothes to use for what they're trying to evoke.☺️
New subscriber here and I thoroughly agree with every point you made in your lovely video. I’ve just turned 60 and had my hair trimmed to your length from a long style - it’s so much better with a bit more bounce and so much easier to manage. I’ve no tattoos, no heavy make up, no piercing’s, no tan, no false nails … it’s so refreshing to meet like-minded women on your channel. I look forward to catching up with your playlist x
Bravo for being brave to speak your thoughts. I think you did so respectfully and clearly that they were your own opinions. I had a short haircut in 7th grade, i wanted a Dorothy Hammel, and it looked horrendous. I vowed it would never ever be above my ear lobes again.
I agree on all seven, especially about long hair on older women. I wear mine straight, parted on the side, and when I cut it to just under my chin in a straight blunt cut, everyone said it was wonder and that I looked 10 yrs younger. My husband loves it.
Just found your videos and have subscribed. I have just turned 67 and agree with all your points. Like you, I just don't understand tattoos! I see gorgeous young women who to my mind have completely ruined their lovely legs with a whole lot of tattoos. I hope they still like them when they are my age. Also particularly agree about the standard older lady short haircut! I used to have very long dark hair like yours but, again like yours, it is very fine and not as thick as it was when I was younger, so I now have it cut just on or just below my shoulders, with some layering, which works best for me. I look better with a fringe, but constantly fight with it when drying it as I have a cow's lick and often end up pushing it back in frustration. Wish my hairdresser could style it for me every morning! Looking forward to watching all your videos ❤
Thank you so much! Agree with difficulty of hairstyling - I will do a video soon on what tools I use, if it’s any help - but always a work in progress.
Old women need lipstick at minimum. The rest depends on their features. Agree with all you said. Good skin care is our best friend. I’ve also switched to tinted moisturizer with SPF 50, a little blush, mascara and eyebrow gel and that’s it for everyday. It is not too little, but the lipstick is a must. Like your channel very much and subscribed
Greetings from Sooke, on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I have reached 70, much to my astonishment, and have found your advice on make up, hair etc to be spot-on! Thanks for guiding us forever young, fading beauty queens into our next decades!
Hello Sandy from Sooke! I have visited the island a very long time ago - when I was 20!!! I have friends in Vancouver so one day hope to return. Thank you so much for your comments ❤️
I would suggest you need to lowlight and highlight your hair as it is very ageing to have the same colour . it would take 10 years off you and you would look so much better
Hi Dez! I agree with everything you said! I remember when I was younger toying with the idea of a very small “hidden” tattoo. But for whatever reason, I never got one and I’m happy with that decision. I have a couple of friends who now getting older, regret getting their tattoos. Now on to my favorite part of the video….I absolutely cracked up when you said “give me a short haircut because I’m an old woman!” Oh Dez! You are hilarious !! 😂😂😂 This was an excellent video my friend. Throughly enjoyed it!
Thank you so much Tina! It was a bit of a punt, this video, as I thought I might haemorrhage subscribers, but happily it seems to have gone down quite well! It was fun to do and I felt like I was getting some things of my chest, so to speak! Have a great Friday and weekend ❤❤❤
AGREED on all 7! I have one tatoo I got in my early 40s that I thought about for 15 years. By that time, I felt I'd earned the right. It's about the size of my palm on my lower left abs, near my hip bone. It has personal meaning. I conceal it most of the time, but can show it to someone without being indecent. The added bonus? It's still bright and pretty because it rarely sees the sun. I'm still glad I have it 15 years later. But an arm full of tatoos looks to me like someone needs a bath!
Hi dez I’m a brand new subscriber & I’m excited to see more of your videos! I’m 63 & I really try to keep trim & healthy I’ve not long got over two major health problems open heart surgery & breast cancer with 14 months between the two surgeries & 6 months of chemo & radiotherapy I’m fine now & getting better but it made me change the way I think I now have some Botox my hair done regularly lots of subtle low / highlights & shoulder length hair look after my skin & don’t tan I feel like I’ve had a second chance of life & make the most of things a tattoo on my wrist & a few ear piercings why not you just never know what’s round the corner! By the way you look gorgeous & very classy thank you so much for advice ❤
Oh thank you so much, and sorry to hear you've had such serious health problems, but delighted you've got over them and are living life to the full! I did think about getting an extra ear piercing - maybe when I'm 70!
I'm 66 and I hate tattos as well and piercing, except on the ears. I agree with your points, Dez! I have the same hairdo as you, by the way, fringe with shoulder-length bob (I cut it myself), I find it's versatile...you can wear it loose, up in a jaw clip or back in a ponytail.
@@beautybydez Fringes can be really contrary and they also frizz up alarmingly in any dampness, at least mine does! I take a long time getting mine nice and smooth and then I go out and it rains, or has rained, and all my hard work is wasted.😒😅
I'm a first time viewer to you and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed it I will definitely become a regular viewer, take care I look forward to your next video x
Totally agree on the tattoos. Had my trible removed 5 years ago at 52. In my late 40s, I started wearing more feminine clothes and it just "broke" down the look, didnt look classy, specially during summer when I d be wearing gorgeous short sleeved dresses, really started disliking the tattoo. Unfortunately eventhough it s removed, there s always a change in skin color and now it whiter then the rest of my arm, close up u can see this, but I still prefer it 1000x better then the dark ink.
Amen to all of these-especially the tattoos!!!!!! I’ve been to weddings where the bride and bridesmaids have had them on their back-looks absolutely dreadful in their beautiful dresses 👗!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG…what a blast from the past !!..Tressie dolls.!!! I had one and I lived vicariously through her because my mother ( a hairdresser) still going strong today and she’s almost 90 , always experimented the newest older lady cut on me. lol She works 2 mornings a week and has been a legend in our community for almost 70 years as an active hairdresser. She would definitely agree with you especially on the tattoos and piercings. Loved your TH-cam video on this subject…I’m 68
Yes, the pixi short haircut doesn't soften features. They say women grow old and sort of look more like men, well really short hair helps the man look. Not good.
My favorite line has to be about nose piercings. “What if you want to blow it?” 🤧The visual wasn’t pleasant but so funny when you said it so seriously 😂. Thanks for the laugh and the video.
I must say, I totally agree with you on the Tattoos and piercings. I guess it goes back to peer pressure. It’s all so unladylike. Your advice is great. These are principles I learned early and taught my daughters. Thank you from South Carolina. 😊😊😊
I’m also from South Carolina! I’m 55 and have never wanted a tattoo. When people ask why not, I ask them “Would you put a bumper sticker on a Bentley?” 😄
@@TwoShedsJackson I tried that on my niece, and her reply was, “ I like bumper-stickers.” I’m absolutely not kidding. My daughters and I are the only ones on two sides of the family who do not have them. This is the world we live in.
@@avondalemama470 Unfortunately, yes it is. I absolutely wish social media had never been invented, because kids today follow these trashy “influencers” and make decisions they’ll later regret. I still laugh when I think of Mother saying “Tattoos are just so ‘north area.’” (If you know, you know! 😄)
@@TwoShedsJackson Hahaha, I guess I “don’t know” then. I’ve lead a very sheltered life, which is no problem for me. I haven’t missed anything worthwhile. 😀 Social media has ruined our young people. I feel so sorry for the decent people trying to bring up children today.
@@avondalemama470 Let’s just say that several-generation Charlestonian families (such as my own) tend to look down on anyone from North Charleston (“the north area”) as it’s very industrial and full of people who are “not-from-here.” This was especially so when the Navy Base was here, and Spruill Avenue and that whole area was a major area for hookers and whatnot. It’s very much improved these days, with some areas absolutely unrecognisable from 20-30 years ago. It’s good to see it looking better, but to native Charlestonians it will most likely always have that “north area” stigma.
Lovely, sensible discussion~ enjoyed this very much. Seems we share certain preferences for how one can best enhance what we've been blessed with. At 58 yrs old, I've definitely scaled back on the eyeshadow/eyeliner, as it looks quite garish anymore. I also don't care for the tatooed & pierced aesthetic, at least not for myself. When I turned 30, I did get my lip pierced, as well as a tatoo~ oh yes, I thought I was SO daring! The tiny diamond stud in my lip lasted my fancy for just a couple years, & the tatoo I've regretted ever since. Fortunately, it's small & behind my shoulder, so it's easy to hide. I actually remeber thinking at the time that I may not like it one day, so I chose the spot strategically. I've worn long hair pretty much my whole life, but now prefer it shoulder length or a bit off the shoulder. It just looks more balanced, imo, as well as fuller & neater.
I just watched you for the first time and subscribed to your channel. I agree with all your points, always interested in improving myself at the age of 66. I would add to the list that wearing neon colors, and not filling in brows or dealing with grays Also ages us.
Hi, this is my first time with you and I'm so happy you came up in my feed! Thank you for addressing the 7 makeup mistakes! Such genius tips and opinions🌟 I am 67 and have been wearing makeup for half my life. I love makeup and skincare. It's only been in the last year that I've taken the time to learn how to most effectively use makeup. For several years I'd been using skin tints or tinted moisturizes because I wanted and liked "the natural look". I did not realize it didn't like me! It didn't cover my texture or correct my skin tone. I actually never took a deep look at the condition of my face. 😮 So, I began trying out different foundations. Light to full coverage. I'm also learning how to effectively and correctly apply eyeshadow - neutrals- and mascara. My mascara often gets my glasses marked up, even waterproof mascara. So, I'm trying different waterproof mascaras. I am learning how to apply blush and bronzer in a subtle but noticeable manner. Lip gloss has re-entered my life, taking the place of lipstick. I don't do contour. I agree with all the points you make on older women's approach to wearing makeup. The hair- omg thank you for the hair portion of the video. I love and appreciate all of your insights! My hair is shoulder length again, finally. Years of short cuts : I really grew tired of them and wanted to go longer. Now I do need as cut, but nothing pixie or short. I'll be scouring Pinterest for ideas. Thank you for helping me so much! I'm a brand new subscriber!!❤😊 PS. I have a tattoo on my neck that I'll never regret. I got it when my husband died. There's four small swallows around a three strand cord representing our family. In the bible there's a verse that says "a three strand cord is not easily broken I don't have the words on my tattoo, just the image. It's even more treasured now since m our daughter died in 2022. 💔❤️🩹💞
Oh Carrie thank you so much for your lovely comments and what a beautiful representation your tattoo is to the ties that bind us to our family - that really moved me. I so appreciate you taking time to write and also to tell us about your makeup journey. Like you I tended to wear light makeup back in the day, apart from the occasional red lip! Have a wonderful weekend and thank you again so much ❤️❤️❤️
Loved watching you Dez, and agree with everything you say. One other piece of advice I found helpful though…..posture…..nothing makes you look older than bad posture…..
I am in my early 70's and always loved long hair. In my 60's it got so thin that I opted to wear wigs. I started out with a long wig that I thought I loved, but then realized that it did drag my face down and was not doing me any favors though the hair itself was beautiful. I now wear midlength wigs and it is such an improvement! I've tried shorter ones, and it a no go! Never cared for it on me.
I don’t mind looking my age at 82 wearing very little makeup. I am blessed to be healthy and still walk 3 miles every day with my husband. We both say we’ve earned the wrinkles and gray hair and don’t worry about trying to look younger…
I agree with you on all points. And I can’t understand the appeal of tattoos. They are dangerous to our health and look awful on everyone, young or old
Like most of the people who have written comments, I agree with you about tattoos and piercings, however... it's not related to age. I have always disliked them on anyone, any age.
I'm a couple of years older than you, and I have a tattoo (circa 1979) that I have never regretted because I got it, a small heart (I do regret my lack of imagination), just above my ankle on the inside. It's the perfect place because I can easily show it or hide it. I do the red lip and blush (cheeks, and more subtly on forehead, chin, neck) to replace the flush the years have diminished, but I wear glasses which takes care of balancing my face. I so agree with you about that elder-pixie haircut. The cuts you suggested are excellent choices! I love Helen Mirren, and she should have whatever hair she wants, but I think the very long hair does not flatter her. I agree with you that, in large part, the quality and health of hair dictates the best length. Why have a long mane of mediocre, or worse, hair when you can have a shorter mass of glossy, healthy looking hair. My goal now is not to look younger, but to look vibrant and attractive. I would like to see videos which, rather than saying: how to look younger, say: how to look gorgeous!
You're so right - how to look gorgeous - I love that! I know that the images TH-camrs use to attract viewers are not really what we as older women want to see, but they are the ones that are most successful in attracting those viewers - it's the clickbait debate! I will use that title in a future video - so thank you so much! And agree a shorter mass of glossy hair rather than a stringy thin mane is a much better look!
So refreshing to see someone express their opinions freely in these times of cancel culture. I agree with everything you have said. My ex husband has alot tattoos, and from a distance it looks like he has grease all over his arms
Thank you. I do have long hair and it looks good on me (64). I am blessed with thick curly hair. Since 3 years I turned gray and just love it. I do not like long hair when its is to thin on the ends, it looks better shoulder length. I use only eye make up. When young it was black kajal. These days I use more grey or indigo tones, looks less hard.
Agreed on all points. Regarding Jamie Lee Curtis, she's had that haircut for decades and has always looked fabulous with it even when she was in her 30s. The way i see it, if you would have hated it on yourself in your 30s, how could you possibly think it will look good in your 60s???
Hi Des! Im a 56yr old and I have both a discreet tattoo low on my tummy, & a piercing on my face. I do love my Mermaid Tattoo , she represents my lifelong love of Storytelling, folklore & of the sea . I do however wish id not had my lip /face piercing 32yrs ago. I tried to take it out after a few years but it left a hole & an obvious indentation on my top lip, so I had a real diamond made into a stud for it & to be honest my very tiny white diamond looks much prettier than just a hole or a mark there ,so ive persevered with it. Its not even obvious unless you look for it & I forget its there. My own daughter is now 32yrs old however ,& she made no such mistakes as I was able to pass on my perspective & experience to her. I agree with everything you said, and I would add that hair colouring is probably even more important than style as we age. Too dark or a washed out faded shade on bleached or half grey hair looks terribly aging & ungroomed, & can be easily rectified today where salon products can be bought online . I colour my own hair & have always preferred it when I do, ive studied & practised since I was young so im confident & resort to doing it myself more & more again now as Im aging, because salons & stylists ive used almost always leave me far too warm toned & it does not suit my uber fair & cool skin tone. Makes me look ill & older. I think they hear my accent & assume I wont mind mahogany roots when it is really awful on me . Not all of us Irish have red hair! 😉 ... and ladies just because we are older & may have greys to cover it does not mean we need to accept being any less particular about our grooming. They give us sandy or much warmer tones because red needs to go back into the hair to build colour & cover the greys more easily & it takes a better product & more time to cover white hair with a cool tone . (for cooler brown root shadow on my ombre hair I use Shwarzkopf Igora Royal in shades 5.4 & 6.4 for the ladies who do their own, a nice beige toned light brown & dark blonde that covers my greys beautifully & naturally )
You're so right, hair colour is really important. I also colour my own hair, which I started to do during lockdown and have never gone back to the hairdressers, except once when I tried balayage. I use Cetuem, which is very kind to the hair - usually a 55.0 mixed with a 6. I know it's quite dark but I'm sticking close to my natural colour for now. I also need cool-ish colours although I am a bit olive-y too. Your mermaid tattoo sounds lovely! Thanks so much for watching ❤️
Great tips, Dez! Your video popped up in my "browse" today. I can't do scented products, but the face tanner drops that work well for me is the product from Clarins. Every 3 days or so I add 2 to 3 drops to my morning sunscreen/moisturizer. I only use it in the summer. Any bit of scent in the drops dissipates quickly.
@@beyond50skin I think you mean "neck", right? I think I do, because I always apply sunscreen to my neck every day. I think I've demo'd the Clarins product on a couple videos....
Touche ! Why do the older women cut all their lovely hair off? Soo short... hair when cut correctly is our best asset. I'm doing everything to look as good as possible...no piercing tats excess make-up etc. Good on you...keep sharing😊
I agree with all of your comments. With respect to tattoos, since I am very particular in how and what I eat, I'm amazed at people who don't consider how unhealthy it is to inject ink into one's body. Many people don't know during Covid, that people with tattoos had a much lower immune system, putting them at risk. Also, this "granny" hair also ages women. IMO few women look their best letting their hair go "gray".
A very valid point about ink under the skin - I hadn,t thought of that! I would like to be brave enough to go grey but I'm just not there yet 😉- thanks so much for watching!
@@beautybydez Thanks for your reply. I became very aware of toxicity in our bodies when I started to have deep tissue massage about 20 years ago. My masseuse told me that when she worked with people who were professional painters, that she would see paint come out of their system that had been there for years. This is also a reason to have cleanses that remove toxins from our bodies.
I agree with all your make-up tips. I adore makeup and have always been into wearing makeup. I invest in good makeup brushes, I always wear false eyelashes when going to a wedding or party etc. Eyeliner is something that I can't live without… however, although I will always use my eyeliner and eyelashes for occasions, I have found that since being in my 50s I have realised that I need to tone down on the elaborate eyeshadows. I did enjoy blending Eyeshadow and cutting the crease on my eye lid but have had to tone down, especially on the vibrant colours. I totally agree regarding tattoos, I don't like tattoos at all and would never ever consider having a tattoo. When I was 32 I had my belly button pierced, I was totally delighted with what I considered my fashionable piercing. I never took the piercing out and so I still wear a belly bar of choice. I most certainly don't walk around wearing crop tops to show my belly piercing, in fact, the only time my piercing is on show these days are when I am on the beach wearing a bikini. The only other piercings I have is ear piercings. I have had the exact same thoughts regarding ladies reaching a certain age and feel that they need to have their hair cut it in that awful ugly unfeminine style… my hairstyle is a bob with a little fringe. I sometimes add waves in my bob. Thank you for your tips, great video.
A belly button piercing sounds fun! And as you say, only on show at certain times. My daughter had hers done years ago, but not sure it's still there 😉 Thanks so much for watching ❤️
Hello found your channel today and loved it 😍 I am almost 70. But I am so grateful to look slightly younger. As for makeup less is more enhance your face don’t wear a mask of heavy makeup and false eyelashes ❤
I'm 70 and I agree with all your comments. I'm also" iffy" about the current trend of going completely gray...If you decide to go totally gray you will need to wear makeup that will brighten your face,if you don't wear any makeup with totally gray hair you will appear totally washed out looking. But if you have a bright lip color, and play up your eyes, your gray hair will be a fancy frame, or crown to your pretty face. I like longer hair, but as you say it depends on your hair type. I love the style of a classic "Up Do"/French Twist, that with some simple pearl earrings is a very easy, yet sophisticated look. We work with what we have been given, and try to look our best for whatever age we are. Of Course our personalities are the most beautiful part of who we are, but we are judged by our looks, and overall appearance first. Happiness, Cindy
I agree with everything you mentioned. My hair is a couple inches longer than yours is now. I dont like short hair and I am 67. If you have finer hair the best thing to do IA keep the ends blunt and I like a few long layers. I don't care for full on bangs at this age, as I think for me it draws attention to the lower face, plus if a person has a larger nose I think bangs draw attention to that also. You look nice with bangs, but for me I prefer the pic without the bangs. It opens up your face. Great video.
Thanks so much Kathy! I only had the bangs cut about four weeks ago so am getting used to them. I'll see how I do - good to switch things up a bit - and you can always grow them out. My main issue is when I wear glasses they can get in the way 😉
totally agree, I was born in 50s then my daughters started having a tattoo here and there, this was in the 90s, so I thought why not I’ll try for a little rose on the top of my are, worse thing I ever did, after I was so uncomfortable wearing a short sleeved garment, so spent more time trying to hide it, worse thing was, after a couple of years, it looked more like a space ship than a rose, the two leaves at each end made it look ridiculous, so end result had 10 removal sessions of laser treatment to get rid of it, 😂
I’m 50 and glad this video found me. I am currently going through the change and realizing that a lot of the old things that worked for me as little as 1-2 years ago is no longer working for me. Not sure what happened at 50 but a few months in I felt so different and so much more mature and in need of revamping my style in all areas. Not to mention my way of seeing, thinking & handling things in life. I have a gorgeous head of hair! It’s full and curly/wavy almost up to my waist! I’ve been feeling like cutting it but my family loves it and they say it suits me. I’m on the fence as I don’t want to look like a crazy hairy 50 year old! LOL!!! My type of hair isn’t the smooth sleek straight style so it tends to be a bit more “un done” and I love that but I feel it can be a bit harsh at times. My makeup routine has also changed to a more natural dewy look. I am in good shape and slim so I look much younger than I really am but I dont know, our thoughts change and sometimes the outside doesn’t really match the inside. Even though I do feel young and vibrant! Oh lord this so sounding all over the place but I bet someone can relate 😂 anywho, just subscribed and I’m excited to catch up on old videos and look forward to new ones as well! Sending love from miami Florida ❤❤❤❤
Oh my gosh I can totally relate! I wish my hair was thicker like yours - I did used to leave it to dry naturally but after a few hours it looked like rats tails - you can see it in my Andreea Ali makeup video. If you love your hair you should absolutely keep it. Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Wow...I completely agree...all of the 7...and all the same reasons....THINK people before doing what I would consider drastic...( tattoos)...hair grows, so that is very fixable....look in a 10x mirror whilst applying makeup...and imagine the way people see you....and do you look at other persons and think ....gee that is a lot ...not little MUCH...??? Hope your followers take heed...it will make your life simpler and happier!....I am an older retired cosmetologist...I had clients who insist on unattractive looks...e.g. Eggplant brows...!!! Yes...& eggplant hair...when silver hair is so much more beautiful.....just a pet peeve of mine!
I agree with you on all seven - in fact I’d add three more: long nail extensions (on old hands), hair scraped back in a too-tight ponytail and brassy yellow hair.
LOL - and agree!
I definitely agree with the long fingernails. It does nothing for aging hands. And no slick back hair for me ever. That's a good way to develop traction alopecia if done on a consistent basis.
100% agree with your post!!!
I agree, I have 3 tattoos they are discret. I would never have them showing..
Oh boy!! I absolutely agree with you 100 %
Sorry disagree. There are women who do look good with short hair or very long but by far the majority look best with medium length ie snitching length or collar length
Purple/pink hair and tats look ridiculous on older women. They think they’re cool, but I think they’re trying too hard.
You have read my mind on all of these things! The 2 things I would add are those fake, thick eyelashes (that seem to drag the eye down), and those long, fake pointy nails. So unflattering imho.,❤
Yes, very thick eyelashes - how does one see past them?!
Have a great day 🙂👋
@@beautybydez Some false eyelashes look like HUGE caterpillars, & the wearer thinks they look great..🤣😂😅😃😀
I agree with you 100%
@@chantal5676 thank you so much - I really appreciate it! Have a great day yourself ❤
These are excellent tips,I would also include teeth that are yellowing or a dingy color
Thank you - and yes agree re teeth too. Although I didn't want to mention teeth as dentistry in the UK is not what it should be and my teeth are not by any means perfect 🙂
It's so expensive in the USA I can't afford the work I need.😒
Veneers (porcelain, of course) are the bomb, fortunately mine were done in the 90's and not as expensive. They have held their good color and they look more attractive than most real teeth.
@@tonimartine7985Mine have shifted. I would like veneers on front but they scrape the enamel off your real teeth
@@ninamc6116lucky you
I agree with everything you said in this video.
I agree with you on all of it. You are saying things we usually only talk about in small groups at lunch 😂 You are being helpful 🌷
How true - and thanks so much!
Me too. I love my fringe! I am 72 & still only have a little grey hair. I find it difficult putting makeup round my eyes as my hands shake!
I loath tattoos - they remind me every time of bruises
Excellent, agree, especially on tattoos as well as body jewelry, for healthy collagen sun care vital.
Thank you for the suggestion - I've thought about having a go so maybe I should!
False Eyelashes until death🤫
A few lashes just at the outer corners is enough to accentuate the eyes.
Agree...my lashes have gone...so some "fakes"... Make me look awake...I put no mascara on them...!
Yes I'm not crazy about them either and never have been
Flabby arm skin and tattoos… priceless😂
It starts out as a rose; however, in 20 years it will look like a cabbage
LOL...!!!
Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Totally agree with you regarding tattoos especially on the face or neck! Those of us who are older know to well where tattoos will end up as our skin sags. Donna
I think Hele Mirrens long white hair is most unflattering
It's harsh, colorless and and aging.
Thank you!
Agree with you totally. Thanks for voicing what I've always felt!
It is so easy to look better, fresher, more alert, prettier with a bit of makeup. Like RuPaul says, “I know beauty is skin deep but a little Revlon doesn’t hurt anyone!”
Thank you for your video!

No nipple Tattoos!
Oh my goodness. I didn’t think anyone remembered Tressie the doll that’s hair grew out of her head by pushing a button on her belly.
I had one too. I didn’t have a Barbie but I did have one of those. And I agree with all your suggestions.
Thank you! I used to dream I had a belly button like Tressie's! My mum used to cut my hair short as I never brushed it 😉
Me too, I was given a Tressie instead of the Sindy I really wanted. I’ve had long hair now since my early 40’s I find it easier and prettier.
I agree with your points... I will add half or full zipped thin cheap fleeces, ugh.. particularly in light blue, purple or mauve
LOL ❤️
Thank you so much ❤️
Bravo for being brave to speak your thoughts. I think you did so respectfully and clearly that they were your own opinions. I had a short haircut in 7th grade, i wanted a Dorothy Hammel, and it looked horrendous. I vowed it would never ever be above my ear lobes again.
Had to Google Dorothy Hammill and yes, I had that haircut too in my 30s 😱 Thank you 💗
Oh yes I did the same Dorthy Hamill cut in 6th grade too. It was awful. I’ve never had short hair since 😊

I agree with you 100% a woman has much more power when she looks feminine and hence not trying to compete in the toughness department as as man
I totally agree with everything you've mentioned!
Thank you - always a bit nerve-wracking putting it out there!
Totally agree with you. I've always thought of tattoos as graffiti on the body. Another mistake is black eyeliner on older women.
Almost agree , in my 60s , have a couple tattoos that o love , and have long blonde highlighted hair ….. so there ..😂🤣. Have just subscribed though 😉
I dye my own hair but I have been considering doing my own balayage! I had it done at the hairdressers last year but it started to look a bit brassy.
Def go lighter hair.
This was an excellent video my friend.
I liked you hair style prior to this one, just shorter like you have it now but no fringe.

Thanks so much! It is taking me a bit of time to get to grips with the fringe - particularly how best to dry it - but we're getting there!

I agree with everything you have said, I’ve been thinking the same for years.
Amen to all of these-especially the tattoos!!!!!! I’ve been to weddings where the bride and bridesmaids have had them on their back-looks absolutely dreadful in their beautiful dresses 👗!!!!!!!!!!!

Aww thanks! And what a fab mum you have! I loved my Tressy so much - never had a Barbie, only a Sindy and Tressy. I think I had Paul as well 😉
Yes, the pixi short haircut doesn't soften features. They say women grow old and sort of look more like men, well really short hair helps the man look. Not good.

Very good advice. Thank you so much for sharing.
Absolutely agree about short hair! It seems to be a “coming of age” thing with ladies of a “certain age”! AWFUL, a cropped grey cap style - hate this
Lovely, sensible discussion~ enjoyed this very much.
I honestly agree with you on everything.
I just watched you for the first time and subscribed to your channel. I agree with all your points, always interested in improving myself at the age of 66. I would add to the list that wearing neon colors, and not filling in brows or dealing with grays Also ages us.

Thank you ❤️
Hi, this is my first time with you and I'm so happy you came up in my feed! Thank you for addressing the 7 makeup mistakes! Such genius tips and opinions🌟
I am 67 and have been wearing makeup for half my life.
So, I began trying out different foundations.
I'm a brand new subscriber!!❤😊
PS.

Thank you so much! And completely agree about bad posture -I have to remind myself of that as I do have a tendency to be round shouldered ❤️
I'm 62 and I love my tattoos. I don't have faded ones like you showed in the photos. I keep it edgy and classy.
I have lots of friends with tattoos I don’t have any, but I like theirs, it’s all personal choice.
First time I ve watched . Really enjoyed the video.
Thanks so much!

They are dangerous to our health and look awful on everyone, young or old
I hope no one argues with you about the points you made! I agree with them all!!! Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much - so far no one has completely trashed my opinions 😉
I agree with your comments. Your hair does suite you. I too had to have a trim, at 54 for me i had to have a rethink. Thankyou i do enjoy your content
Great tips and very clear presentation.
Thanks so much Kathryn!
I love your video and love all your points❤
Thank you so much!
Skin droops and so will the tattoo. I totally agree with you.
Agreed on all points.
Regarding Jamie Lee Curtis, she's had that haircut for decades and has always looked fabulous with it even when she was in her 30s.
The way i see it, if you would have hated it on yourself in your 30s, how could you possibly think it will look good in your 60s???
I love your necklace!
You nailed it!
Your hair absolutely looks fantastic
It’s so flat and pasted to her head.
Like your honesty. Like your hair, you suet a fringe. Agree about a very short hair, when you get older. Thank you.🌟👍
Great tips, Dez!
Hey Glory… I always have the worst luck with tanning drops. Do you do down to your deck as well?
Thanks so much Glory! I haven't tried the Clarins but I'm going to give them a go!
@@beyond50skin I think you mean "neck", right? I think I do, because I always apply sunscreen to my neck every day. I think I've demo'd the Clarins product on a couple videos....
@@gloryb-tv Trying to be to hip! Lol Neck and décolleté ...
@@gloryb-tv will check out those videos. Thanks
Touche ! Why do the older women cut all their lovely hair off? Soo short... hair when cut correctly is our best asset. I'm doing everything to look as good as possible...no piercing tats excess make-up etc. Good on you...keep sharing😊
Thank you!
Totally agree with the shirt hair. Im 81 with gray. I have a bob that goes to my chin which to me is very flattering
Amazing video! Thank you
Hello found your channel today and loved it 😍 I am almost 70. But I am so grateful to look slightly younger. As for makeup less is more enhance your face don’t wear a mask of heavy makeup and false eyelashes ❤
Thank you so much!
Absolutely agree with each point you make. And I remember Tressy too! Thanks for another enjoyable video!
Thanks so much Sian!
Thanks so much, Cindy. I just can't bring myself to go grey yet - plenty of time for that in our 80s or beyond 😉❤️
My main issue is when I wear glasses they can get in the way 😉
Agree with you about everything.
totally agree, I was born in 50s then my daughters started having a tattoo here and there, this was in the 90s, so I thought why not I’ll try for a little rose on the top of my are, worse thing I ever did, after I was so uncomfortable wearing a short sleeved garment, so spent more time trying to hide it, worse thing was, after a couple of years, it looked more like a space ship than a rose, the two leaves at each end made it look ridiculous, so end result had 10 removal sessions of laser treatment to get rid of it, 😂
My daughter also went through the removal process 😱
I agree with everything you have said .😊
Love your nails!
I agree with you regarding tattoos and facial piercings. It seems such a waste of beauty! You are quite brave to venture in those waters! 😅
I agree with you..completely.
OMG I've always said it was Beckham that started all the tatoos him and Amy Whinehouse. I think your hair looks great, the fringe really suits you. 🙂
Thank you! Yes agreed, Beckham started it and he was such a role model back then - probably still is! Thanks so much ❤️
