General Spoiler Warning to begin! As we will be discussing events from across the Horus Heresy so you have been warned! As always I really recommend you read the stories for yourself first, as that's the best way to enjoy the lore, for yourself. I think when Konrad says "He owns it" meaning Corax owning the night, that Konrad knows about Coraxs abilities to become "Invisible". And basically has had the puzzle pieces together for quite some time.

And to add on and go a bit more in detail, that is why Konrad hates Corax. Also hypothetically why he became a traitor in the first place, like fuck you dad! I wanted that toy!

In my view, Corax definitely owned and embraced the night more than Conrad did, but both represented different aspects of it.
Poetry jokes aside, Corax was made to be a true nighttime assassin-- unseen until the exact moment of the kill, and often unseen after. To give the hunted no opportunity to know of their demise or to resist it, and to be gone when anyone went looking for a culprit. Hence his innate ability. His side of night is the final and eternal one, the cold finality of silence.
Conrad's night, on the other hand is the one that haunts men's dreams. Not as dark and final as true night, but instead roiling with unseen malice and fears. The side of night filled with beasts and monsters which can see where you cannot and stalk the shadows outside of the firelight, just waiting for you to step away from its protection. It's unpredictable and irrational, much like the instability and irrationality of Curze himself. There's a different type of power there, one better suited for the control and domination of men and their fears. Which, of course, was one of the very reasons Conrad was made the way he was.
Both are valid reflections of the motif of 'night', but Corax was more a reflection of true night, while Curze was a reflection of man's perception of it.
Both scary, but in very different ways.

The Raven Lord vs The Night Haunter
Two versions of the night, one being the darkness and one being the fear of darkness. If Corax and Curze do fight each other without any interference from anyone would be one of the best battles. I'd stick with Konrad on this one, even Russ wasn't sure he could beat Konrad, since immense ferocity and unpredictability.

    • @lavatun
      @lavatun 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

I disagree.. I think it is possible for corax to beat kurze.. It'll be a difficult fight for corax but I think it is within his capabilities.. The reason why russ thought he couldn't beat kurze is coz they're so different.. Russ as a fighter is not a brawler contrary to how people see him.. He uses axes, swords and spears not claws.. Fighting techniques with lightning claws are very different from those used with swords, axes and spears.. But aside from weapons, their circumstances of their upbringing are very different as well.. Russ was raised to be a king while kurze grew up to be a predator not too dissimilar to corax.. But where kurze hunted those who broke the law regardless of the circumstance, corax hunted those who oppressed the weak..

However one specialize in demoralizing while the other does it quick and clean. Both uses stealth to engage and destory their enemies. But in a previous novel (Unremembered Empire) Konrad takes on: The Dark Angels, The Ultramarines, Alexis Pollux, A Space Wolf Pack, The Lion, AND Guilliman all at once, AND WINS, only losing his advantage once Vulkan shows up.

I feel that there was two primary factors that shaped Curze so differently from Corax: the lack of human guidance during his adolescence, as well as the pain-filled visions of a dark, unforgiving future. Perhaps if Curze had been found and adopted, his adoptive family could of helped him fight against the influence the visions had over him.

Exactly my thoughts, the other primarchs grew up with companions, konrad had no one and found it very difficult to adjust, communicate, and understand his "family". He was doomed to fall cause of his misfortune of not finding a suitable family and home, and cause of the emperor's parenting skills.

How I wished Corax fought Curze here instead of Lorgar. This would be an Epic encounter. The debate on who really was the best between 2 shadow warriors would be decided here. Although I love Corax and his abilities, I doubt he would be as dominant as he was with Lorgar. Curze is a completely different foe. One in line with Corax's own unique skills. He would be fighting a mirror image of himself but more sinister.

For anyone trying to debate who would win between Corax and Kurze, just keep in mind Corax never got into a fight he didn't think he could win. He had a tactical mind like Guilliman combined with an assassins skill. Of course he turned down a fight with Kurze. It wasn't a good time or situation. He also bluntly told Horus he wouldn't fight a particular way. Only his way. Corax chooses his ground and the terms that he fights on. All assassins do. Makes Istvaan all that sadder. Now place that kind of person in the warp where he vowed to kill every last traitor including primarchs. Yeah.....don't screw with Corax.

Corax was the final solution while Curze was meant to send the message. But I agree they could've become much more if they worked together. And We've seen this in loyalist Night Lord Kasati Nuon - Corax sent all non Raven Guard forces away but Nuon was allowed to stay and even stood up to him when some Raven Guard officers questioned his methods. On the opposite side when Sevatar decided to purge Night Lords highest echelons, the "Raven" was spared among the few so he must've held him in some regard.

At best, they would have been the living embodiment of the "Brother against Brother - Brother and Brother against Uncle - Brother, Brother and Uncle against the Outsider", where they were only on friendly terms in any way if they were both fighting against the same enemy. Otherwise, they would be at each others throats, metaphorically or otherwise.

Corax is without a doubt the more powerful of the two. You can see it without ever having to see a battle, by their personalities.
Konrad was cruel, picking on the weak, denying reason and being a chaotic evil type for no reason other than "I have bad dreams." To be cruel you have to be weak yourself, and so afraid of your weakness that you assert yourself violently to make sure others do not best you as you're afraid they clearly can.
Corax on the other hand is generous and kind. He knows he has no equal to fear- the only brothers he is inferior to in combat he has no reason to fear would harm him. To dominate something for yourself and then hand it back for the greater good of the people that make up the constituency? That is what a truly powerful man does. He does not consolidate and conspire. He knows he can do better at every stage.
Altruism is the greatest measure of confidence and strength. Corax had that in spades. Konrad feared that above all else.
There is no contest between the two.

He studies everyone, every micro gesture and tell give him real time extra cognition whereas the Nighthaunter was always intended to be a monster and was blighted with visions of potential futures. Had they remained loyal I can see many a moment of friction between the to legions as their tctis differed so wildly in application that it would surprise e to find out hte RG were intended to be his secret police, the Night Lords reserved for use s a punishment Legion. What fascinates me is Corax combat IQ in this circumstance. Russ, the Gorgon - hell even Guilleman would have stayed to fight. Corax knew he had one but that Kurze had shown up like Nelson Muntz to take his lunch money. Strategic withdrawl to regroup nd return to fisnih them off with fresh marines. However, I hve a slight suspicion that due ot hte conflicting nature of his visions nd the act that they are telling him what my happn in the next moment, Corx has alredy processed that and would start to employ more and more feints until Kurze presented any opening for one kind of unconventional attack. The odds of him pulling it off while exhausted and still trying to kill Lorgar the answer is a no brainer - run!

Peeks beyond the shadow to possible outcomes and the undeniable terror that lay beyond most possible futures. But Corax could remove himself. Literally become a shadow. Conrad sought the shadow, and the fear that came with it, to abate or ignore the truth he saw.
Corax saw what was, and was able to shed barriers of concealments to get to it.
Conrad.. he saw the truth, and could only cope with it by running to the shadows.
They are both horrifically tragic characters.

And one who hides in them to abate the terror of what they know is likely to come.

Corax left because it was the correct move strategically. He was passionate and that anguish fuelled his fight against Lorgar. But he wasn't blind to reason.
I sort of think this, and the way the Ravenguard are depicted as more rational and less prone to grandstanding and all out charges and fire and brimstone speeches is the reason they are over looked in the lore. Their style is actually so much more conventional from a real world perspective that they simply can't sell a grim dark setting the way Blood Angel's, Black Templars or Dark Angels can.
By definition the traits that make the Ravenguard who they are result in them being overshadowed constantly.

Thanks Rho for another wonderful video!!! Just finished watching yesterday’s and today’s upload and I was thinking if you could possibly do a series where you can list down the most human moment for each Primarch? It would be wonderful if you do it

We need a Corax/Sanguinious convo. Why doesn't it exist already?

Interesting how Corax is like a parody of the angel.
Where did the Ravenlord find his inspiration for Ravens and wings I wonder...
Being one of the last found.
Perhaps he saw the blood Angel's and was inspired.

Is it during the drop site massacre that corax looks upon angron fighting and realized he can’t beat him. Cause for him to say he is one of the greatest of the fighters only to look at angron and know he will die is kinda of ironic

I think Corax has a bigger edge over Konrad than even the lion did. The lion was able to beat Kurze by changing his strikes subconsciously mid swing.
That’s important because it tells us two things
    1. Kurze foresight can be fooled.
    2. He needs to actually be able to track you to get a vision he can actually interpret(ever wonder why his foresight wouldn’t just factor in the change from the lion? It’s not like the lion is breaking causality in any way. Theoretically that type of style shouldn’t actually hinder Kurze at all but it does.)
I think Corvus’s specific fighting style, alongside his own primarch abilities are gonna allow him to win.
He can turn invisible to living beings and can fuck with peoples perception of him, make them think he isn’t there even if he hasn’t moved.
With the state that Konrads mind is in, that has the potential to throw off his foresight even more so than the lions ability.
And remember that even the Lion comments on how Kurze isn’t actually really a trained warrior like The lion and Corax are. His foresight is one of the pillars that allows him to engage in combat at all. I don’t think he’s a slouch(no primarch is) but Corax definitely has the edge. Corax is in the top 25% of primarchs when it comes to martial prowess.
So combine better weapon skill, WAYYY better battle strategy, an arguably even more broken set of powers, and the fact that Corax is more mobile than Kurze is… I see crazy Batman as the underdog here. Not Corax.
I’ll admit Kurze has some dope powers but I think the fandom let his fights with The Lion speak higher of his skill than they actually did. Once his foresight is either negated or worked around I can’t see him standing much of a chance.
But that’s in a 1v1 and Kurze is rarely dumb enough to put himself in those situations purposely with no way out.
Put Corax in the Night Haunters domain and I can totally see Kurze on top, but not without heavy injuries.
Conversely, if Corax is on your ass, you’re on borrowed time. Most of the traitor primarchs would be very hard pressed to walk away from a scrap with Corax without insane injuries.
Guess where, why, and when they would fight matters just as much as what powers they actually have

Corax is the night I think they would of been the closest brothers and an unbelievable duo together such a shame how they panned out

Maybe but before Corax was found the Raven Guard were used basically in the same way the Night Lords continued to operate post Kurze, terror tactics guerilla war, and Corax came in and put a stop to that. I don't think they'd see eye to eye on tactics at least

@@DefaultProphet well thet are the same coin just opposite sides I think the ravens would not click personality wise with the methods

Konrad is a good duelist because he can see the future while Corax couldn’t. The lion was able to beat Konrad because he’s a specialist with the blade.
