  • Back in November, I was diagnosed with COVID and lived through one of the most emotionally and physically draining time of my life. I am choosing to share this experience with all of you because having been in isolation going through it, it can be a very dark and scary time. I hope this offers some insight and guidance to that person who doesn't know where or who to turn to ❤️

The oximeter saved my mom’s life! Once she was on 92 we called an ambulance and eventhough they were fast; by the time they arrived she was on 77. I cannot thank you enough for the advise ♥️

Thank you for keeping it real about the panic attacks and stress when going through such an illness! When I get even just a dust allergy, I get so worried and I know so many of my family & friends who go through tension just on everyday allergies just like me because the times are such! There is a part of me that will accept whatever happens because my husband and I are very... extremely... careful and to the best our abilities extend the same diligence when we have to interact with another person. We both work from home, haven’t eaten out since March of last year, don’t travel anywhere (except for car rides & going to hiking areas during mid week), only zoom calls with loved ones and do grocery shopping only during non-peak times once in 2 weeks (we don’t have kids or seniors living with us). Yet, I know inspite of that, we could get ill due to somebody else’s asymptomatic conditions, and, exactly like what you say....it is important to take swift actions when diagnosed with covid, to be be guarded and follow the precautions to at least keep at bay an escalating health situation.

I got it along with my whole family .. i also thought it was ironic because we've been sooo careful, and ended up getting it from grandma, the person we were most worried about ( she also got it from my uncle ). Thankfully she has been really fine, but my dad ended up in the icu for more than 10 days, it's been 2 months and he almost recovered now. My sister and uncle had strong symptoms too, and was knocked out in bed for weeks, despite them being young and fairly healthy. The rest of us had it pretty light, the mental stress was horrible though.
I truly wish no one goes through this, feeling like you might lose your loved ones, without even getting to see them and spending the last moments with them is the worst feeling in the world. Stay safe everyone.

I am finding these emotional, social, and psychological aspects during this time quite difficult.

Loved seeing this, thank you! During this year of pandemic (I´m in Milan so we´ve seen a lot of it since February last year) I´ve not heard anyone who´d got covid19 express any worry about the possibility of having given it to others, and it disappoints me so much. When the pandemic started here, I was (and I still am) like you, protecting and isolating more than others around (they actually did nothing, just laughed) and still do more than what is requested. I was supposed to travel to India but cancelled mostly out of fear to bring the virus with me. I´m so happy to see so much empathy, care. You must be such an incredible doctor.

I have reduced lung capacity and wear N95/FFP2 since April. I could wear those with a valve but want to protect others, even though I'm mostly isolated at home, since March 2020. Ffp2 have a training effect for my lungs.
I cannot to this day understand selfishness, especially in doctors and nurses who want to treat me, a risk patient, with only cloth masks , their full beard not shaven, or people who think it's ok to be careful only around me but not in general. I cannot be protected if the incidence is high. To think as a collective and not as an egoistic individual seems too difficult for many ppl in the West.

    • @mj-ev8hu
      @mj-ev8hu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@geckolia3823 Yes there´s incredibly lot of selfishness and also pure stupid thinking. I had to see a cardiologist for an emergency a few weeks ago. The physician came to my home, I had all windows open even though it was freezing cold, and was wearing a N95. I asked him to keep as much distance as possible. He had a N95 but too loosely fitted, so it constantly sat under his nose. He also asked me if I really didn´t prefer closing the windows as I had to stay undressed. Most of all he said that he doesn´t think covid is a threat for most people, only elderly and those with bad lifestyle! Furthermore he even said that he thinks there´s a lot of money in vaccines but that the most important solution is to have a healthy lifestyle. I didn´t reply but I´m still disgusted. In his eyes I probably don´t look like someone who has a healthy lifestyle. Due to autoimmune issues, congenital heart issue, I´m often ill, and I cannot exercise as much and often as I want. Even though I have an extremely healthy diet I´m not slim. I´m an extreme believer in healthy lifestyle (healthy wholefoods, fasting periods, rest, stress management etc.), but it´s not all, there are also genetic factors and lots of other things. Thankfully we can use both lifestyle (including natural integrative medicine such as ayurveda) and modern medicine and pharmaceuticals.

@@mj-ev8hu hahaha I had a doctor's appointment today in which she told me ppl die because of vitamin D deficit, pcr tests are false, and noroviruses worse. March last year same doctor advised me to isolate. It's mind boggeling. This doctor kept saying "you studied molecular biology and worked in a lab so you know" and I twice explained that pcr tests are utterly accurate or but she acted as if I had agreed with her. So bizarre. Deep down I know she knew I know and also that we both know it's crap but she wanted to believe it. O and of course she already had Covid (I was not surprised 🤣) but still wore a FFP2 to calm patients. That she could infect us again seemed to also not be possible.
Ps.: I have vitamin EDKA deficiency and substitute ;)

There is a void where self-care for covid should be, primarily I believe because of the stance society has taken and been led to by gov and paediatricians etc that covid is no big deal even to the point where my Dr doesn't take it seriously. I had the same experience with getting covid. My sister has ALL and ALM cancer and my dad was in a horrible car accident recently. And I gave them both covid. I hid in my room so fearful for them not me. It’s been 2 months and my dad is still coping with symptoms. My sister cannot get life saving surgery until she passes a covid test, she hasn’t passed yet. Please be careful out there it’s not worth it!

Even so much later, this is still totally important and relevant. It was interesting to hear that you had been so careful, because I also was this careful and it seems like by far most people weren't (at least where I am, but not a big city like NY). My husband and I always followed all the guidelines, including not socializing with anyone outside of our household for months and months, and I think our extended families thought we were crazy. The only time I didn't follow guidelines was at work, because I'm a teacher and wasn't able to. At work I wore a KN95 every day and ate lunch alone. Our school (husband and I are both teachers) decided not to take any precautions except masking for a few months (something at least) and surface cleaning, even though at that point we knew surfaces weren't a danger. I finally tested positive for the first time one week ago, and today am almost at 100%. I had just started hanging around close friends unmasked and eating inside restaurants a week or two before, so no surprise. I don't regret anything I did and just feel so grateful I got it when we already had the vax and I was boosted. **Tell your doctor and get a pulse ox!!!!** My doctor immediately put me on paxlovid and I had already had a pulse oximeter since early on in covid. Those two things made it as easy as possible. So grateful for medical scientists and doctors! I understand why a lot of people have a we-will-all-get-it attitude, but in my mind it is completely preventable and I wish more people were willing to contribute to that.

I have been going to restaurants in Feb and March and also from July (when lockdown ended) and nothing. I have been seeing friends etc and doing everything you can possibly do. But I have been super careful washing hands etc. In the end I got it from my boyfriend who got it from a child at school. That’s unavoidable as we live together. So yes I think you got it from touching your face that time!! I understand the mental stress - I feel the same as we went to a restaurant Xmas eve and am worried we gave it to the old waiters or something :( be careful people - basic hygiene!! Don’t struggle with your mental health by staying indoors - just live your life and use extreme hygiene measures with your mask, wash hands etc

Thank you so much for your input. I know plenty of people who were super careful just like you and still got it. So, I get annoyed when people are going out and on vacation and they say "we are being careful". That isn't a guarantee, you can still get it, no matter how much you wash your hands and apply sanitizer. It's in the air people. Glad your doing better.

@May Gold, I got it before Thanksgiving also and I literally hadn’t left my house since March! My son worked at McDonald’s and although they masked and cleaned and he had hand sanitizer, one of his coworkers tested positive and since they usually worked drive thru together, it was not possible to social distance, so he got tested just in case and so did my husband and I. My husband was negative but my son and I were not. The worst thing was how terrified my son was that working to make his car payment would be what killed his mom. Thankfully we both had mild cases, but you are so right, this is nothing to take lightly! Thankfully I had decided to skip the holidays with my parents who are 86 and 84 because we didn’t show any symptoms until the Saturday after Thanksgiving and I can’t imagine the stress we would have be under if we had had our usual Thanksgiving dinner.

Thank you for your story. I have just had the covid. The stress and anxiety was the worst for me. Even now I feel scared that it will return by watching the video 🙈
I didn't pass it on to my husband. I'm really proud of that. Because we couldn't isolate 100% because of my mental state. The lesson for me was that hygiene is vital. I'm trained in hygiene principals in healthcare. So I'm really thankful for my training.
Again thank you for the story.

So glad to hear you're doing a lot better!
I got covid last summer and it was the worst. Only one day during those first days I got covid I woke up feeling like a cinderblock was on my chest and I checked the pulse oximeter and it said 91%!! My dog was barking outside my bedroom door so I think she was my guardian angel that woke me up that morning. I panicked and thought OMG I'm going to die. It felt like I couldn't even lift myself upright and I used all my strength. I was able to lift myself and I stayed upright and eventually my o2 levels starting getting better and I monitored them very closely - called my doctor who was aware I had covid but he said if I get a bad o2 level call - I got put on dexamethasone, baby aspirin and a z-pack.
Same as you I was super paranoid more than anyone I know masks, gloves, lysol spray everything. And I am pretty sure I know who gave me covid as a client at my job sneezed but the mask he used was later to be found out ineffective at preventing covid spread/droplets. I was the only one near him when he sneezed as the others who had been around him wore n95 masks and shields. Months later when we saw him again he confirmed he had gotten covid since we last saw him and lo and behold he said he had the same time I did. >.

I tested positive for COVID in january, lost my sense of taste and smell and had very light symptoms, but 3 or 4 days later my husband got very ill to the point where he needed oxygen 24/7 for almost three weeks. He lost a lot of weight, his hair is starting to fall, and is very tired all the time.
Thanks for sharing your story. Stay safe

I have a couple of funny stories from how messed up my smell and taste were but the most memorable one for me was when I salivated for soup. After I started feeling better I slowly got my taste back. I could taste only sweet first, then sour, and then salty. About 4 weeks after my onset of symptoms was when I salivated from smelling food. I could hardly smell it and it didn't taste that good to me but it still amazed me to realise it had been that long.
I hope you're feeling better and better each day.

@@shereeneidriss I was like you with the mask wearing and was my hands before it was recommended.
I am from Canada and was studying in Minot. Luckily, I voluntarily got teste weekly and never got COVID but the fear especially lingered during my semester living on campus. Sadly, measures like mandatory mask wearing wasn't in effect until Oct-Nov! Thank god for online live courses so I can stay in Canada :)
