  • The Porsche GT4 is a high-performance sports car renowned for its exceptional driving dynamics. It features a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine, producing around 414 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque. With a top speed of 188 mph, the GT4 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.
On the other hand, the GT4 RS takes performance to another level. It boasts an upgraded version of the same 4.0-liter flat-six engine, delivering an impressive 493 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque. The GT4 RS can reach a top speed of 190 mph and achieves a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of around 3.7 seconds.
Both models come with a six-speed manual transmission, offering an engaging and immersive driving experience. They also feature rear-wheel drive, making them ideal for those seeking a pure and connected driving feel.
In terms of design, the GT4 and GT4 RS share similar styling cues, with aerodynamic enhancements that provide improved downforce and stability at high speeds. The GT4 RS, however, may feature more aggressive elements such as a larger rear wing and additional air intakes.
When it comes to handling, both models excel thanks to their precise and responsive steering, well-tuned suspension systems, and advanced aerodynamics. The GT4 RS may offer slightly enhanced performance due to additional tweaks and fine-tuning.
In summary, the Porsche GT4 and GT4 RS are both exceptional sports cars, offering thrilling performance and driving dynamics. The GT4 RS takes things up a notch with more power and potential track-focused enhancements. Ultimately, the choice between the two depends on your preferences, driving style, and desired level of performance.

I loved my 718 GT4 but traded it in for my GT4RS. What a beast! The GT4 was an amazing car, great at daily duties or track work, a true everything car. But the GT4RS is an unhinged race car that is just about comfortable enough to drive on the street. I never owned an automatic car in 42 years of driving until a 981 Cayman S. The 4RS is my second auto and dear lord it’s dramatic. The PDK is an event unto itself. For a die-hard manual guy this PDK is entertaining and awe-inspiring. As amazing as the manual box was on my GT4, this PDK is a work of engineering art. FYI, noticed your (probably) suction cup camera mount. If you want to capture the best footage angle I use the RoadSpy RS1 on my Cayman. Way way better than those suction cups.

Over axle pipes totally change the driving experience of the GT4. It really gives the GT4 the sound it deserves.

I currently have a GT4 RS and Spyder RS. I initially tried to use the GT4 RS as a daily and soon realised it was a weekend car. It is hardcore. The GT4 is a good car but not comparable to the GT4 RS. So I agree with your conclusion. That said, the GT4 RS always feels like a special occasion. I daily an Alfa Romeo 4C.

Great review Roy, extremely well done! You address many of the aspects of how Porsche took the 718 GT4 to the next level. As a previous owner of 981 GT4 & 718 GT4, I wondered how the RS would feel. You definitely answered that. Also had an early generation turbo pdk (991) & the car was boring to drive after short time. The PDK sport in this 4RS seemed to add to your enthusiasm while driving the car, & didn't seem to detract from your manual preferred experience with the 718 GT4.

Nice one Roy! Like the white theme you got going with your car, don't see white+white wheels often nowadays...GT4 Type R =)

@spikes20 my first car was a 2001 Canadian (red interior) Integra Type R in championship white … number 1293 … I just bought a white gt4 rs in white to pay homage to my 19 year old self … I tell my buddies the gt4 rs is a itr for a 40 year old 😂

GT4 with aftermarket exhaust fixes the noise complaint, and a SharkWerks gearset fixed the transmission dead spots for way less than the100k difference. I’d rock a GT4 in a hot second with those 2 mods.

Interesting style of holding the steering wheel. I hope you will not need to use it for steering.

Really enjoyed the comparison between the 2 cars. I gotta lean towards the GT4 though as I like my manuals and I find it better overall for street driving and the occasional track day.

Don't get the old school "manual is better" mentality. Every car I've had bar the one I have now has been a manual, they're cheap for cheap basic functional cars. My Audi A3 I have now with S-tronic with flappy paddles, is infinitely better than a manual, quicker changes, more flexible, can keep both hands on the wheel and allows you to focus on the real driving skill, handing and road position.
