I’m in the US, and I did a 15K last October in 1:16:39 (8’13” pace) and that gave me the confidence to sign up for an April half marathon, which I just did in 1:49:37 (8’22”). Used the Endorphin Pro 2 for both, and it was great.
Tip, if you get a heat gun and some old worn Temo nexts/Alphafly. You can transplant the Air pods to any Alphafly if you ever get a blown pod and got no more warenty. I have had a couple Frankenstein Alphafly. Air pods are size sensitive though.
I love the Takumi Sen 10 (221g, 11.5US) over 5km, the Streakfly (200g, 11.5US) is also awesome but I just set a Park Run PB in the Skechers Go Run Speed Elite Hyper, my lightest shoe at 190g for size 11US. I plan on trying the ASICS Metaspeed Sky Paris soon.
I love it. So many options. We are lucky to be runners in a time of such bountiful options. I’ve currently got the Takumi Sen 8s for shorter distances and Adios pro 3 for longer. But I obviously want to try them all!
This is a first for me: I got more excited by the music recommendation than the shoes. This track is going to my “fast pace” playlist. Running my home town race Tar Heel 10 miler this weekend. This track may work for the steep downhill section
If my goal is to set a PB in these distances I'd probably go: 5K - Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris or Nike VF2 (current PB shoe is Nike VF3) 10K - Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris or Nike VF2 (current PB shoe is Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 1) Half - Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris or Nike VF2 (current PB shoe is Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 1) Full - Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris or Nike VF2 (current PB shoe is Adidas Adios Pro 3)
I wish I could afford to buy all these super shoes lol. My favorite shoe I've tried for pretty much every distance is the Fast-R 2 right now. I think that thing is just built for a big runner like myself. It's also holding up real well after 200 miles.
Ha! Just ran the Cherry Blossom 10 mi in DC and running another 10 mi at Disney World this weekend. No idea why we like that distance, but it is a nice one.
It’s right between 10k and half for pacing , as for shoe selection it’s probably too long for the Sen 10 , the new Asics Meta Sky or Edge Paris would be excellent although I don’t have either, yet. I usually go with the Adios Pro 3 but going to break out the vapor fly 2 for this one.
The adidas prime x strung v2 has been a god send for me for my marathon training. It really looks after the legs and encourages you to go faster. Ive even considered using it for the race itself.
@@EDDBUD I never tried the v1 because of the stability issues people mentioned. But the only niggle on the v2 is those plastic lace holders at the top I've found.
I would go Vapor 3 in all 4 distances atm although no plans to go the full snickers again atm. Incredibly versatile shoe, why buy 4 when 1 will do, PB’b last weekend in it 16:38 over 5k at 53, it’s beautiful
Saucony Sinister is a great 5K race shoe for me - 139g - super light non plated shoe - great flexibility and still has a decent enough grip. I've used it for 10K as well and it worked well but your legs will get more beat up. It's a trade off. Saucony Fastwitch 9 is my current choice for 10K - Half Marathon - nice light weight simple trainer. I'd like to try the Metaspeed Edge Paris if I can get them in the UK in my size (UK 9/EU 44)
Agreed. I have the Saucony Sinister too and can agree it is a trade off. Super light but my legs felt like trash afterwards. I feel it rewards runners who have good form and strong powers of recovery. Not me unfortunately. A lot of ground feel too and very snug race fitting upper. It's an overlooked shoe for sure.
I think it's worth pointing out that shoe choices are subjective, whatever works for one person may not work for someone else. We're all individuals- for example.. >a) there are forefoot, midfoot and heel-first foot strikers; >b) differences between males and females, men tend to have roughly oblong shaped feet, women's feet are more triangular- wider forefoot, thinner heel. Find out what works best for you. These are the shoes that I've found to be good/not so good for different scenarios. Daily trainers.... >Nike Pegasus 39- 5k, 10k on tarmac or light trails during drier months. >Saucony Ride 15- training miles during drier months on road. Becomes very slightly unstable on uneven surfaces. >Mizuno Wave Rider 25- longer summer half marathon training runs, good build quality, robust, the higher heel-toe drop will not suit everyone. Tempo.... >Saucony Endorphin Speed 3- versatile, 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, speed workouts on road. >Puma Deviate Nitro 2- like the Speed 3, for tarmac or light trails during drier months. Trail.... >Mizuno Wave Daichi 7- from muddy 5k parkruns up to middle distance (around 10k to 15k), road to trail shoe with good build quality. >Mizuno Wave Mujin 9- 6mm lugs stop you slipping in very muddy conditions, too heavy for competitive running, ok for easy efforts. >Inov-8 Mudclaw 300- Running all on grass- the 8mm lugs, and lack of cushioning mean not suitable for hard surfaces. You don't need the most expensive shoes to set a good time in your goal race, consistent training is far more important!
Great channel Ed, always enjoy your vids. I broke 6 year half marathon and 5k pbs in the past week both in Hoka Rocket x 2s. As an over-pronator these machines suit over all distances.
My choice for a 5k or 10k race would be the Topo Cyclone 2 or the Altra Escalante Racer. Edd, to me the Adidas energy rods sound like a jaw harp because they " boing" you foward. 😂
I found Chicago was very easy to get into, compared to all the other majors. No cutoff, just the age bracket times. My qualifying time for Chicago was 10mins slower than the BQ, and that's without adding the current Boston 5:29min additional cutoff....so over 15mins. Which most people say is only going to increase for 2025.
Glad you mentioned about money talks....see same people getting places every year...even a friend of mine she knows someone at TCS and she always gets vip spot with tent pre race etc....
10 miles is a great distance Edd, the perfect step up from 10k before running a half. We have two local 10 milers and they are always very popular. You ought to give one a try 🙂
i am in the market for a 5k/10k atm, don't actually have one right now, was considering the asics magic speed 3 or the saucony sinister, two quite different shoes apparently... hoka cielo road is the wildcard here. was listening to an old Kemal-set yesterday while out for my run, wasn't in the best of moods, quite cold and windy evening, but oh boy, that mix gave me serious goosebumps! nothing better than those golden bangers from konflict, bad company etc., really get the blood pumping.
For the Newport marathon I am opting for the Endorphin Pro 3. For shorter distances, my 5k, 10k, 10 miles and HM PBs have all been in the VF v2. Although I recently broke my Parkrun PB with my Adios Pro 2s that have 300 miles on them. Durability of lightstrike Pro is incredible!
I wear the nike vomero 17 as my daily. I have a half marathon in just over a month and really want the asic sky Paris for race day. How many miles to break them in and can you train in them
There's no shortage of 10 miles races if you look a short distance to the east. The Hampshire Road Race League has five 10 milers out of a total of 13 races, all open to the public. Hayling, New Forest, Ryde (IOW), Alton, Salisbury. You should give it a go. For me they feel more like a shorter HM than. Long 10k, if that makes sense...
Same in South Wales. Typically 10 mile races are late winter for spring marathon prep. Same goes for 20 mile races. Done two 10 mile races and two 20 mile races in the last 3 months.
I was SUPER surprised by the Puma Fast-FWD! Especially if you land a little bit towards the middle instead of towards the toes. The plate then really catapult you forward! Won't buy them over the King T-Sen though. The Takumi is a lot more versatile(for a speedster) and can handle 5,10 and the half in my experience very well
Alphafly 3 dominaces the FM event in our recent running event. A few Adidas Adios Pro 3, some Asics, some Hoka, but 95% elite runners trust the Alphafly
Had to laugh at the 10 mile comment....that's my favorite distance! It offers a nice challenge but doesn't destroy you! I've done many half marathons as well, but it sure is nice to stop at mile 10! I've got a 10 mile race on the calendar in just over a week. I've not exactly trained for it....but I'll get through it.
10mi (and the metric equivalent 15km) are the amateur's half: a race you complete between 50 and 60 minutes. That's skimming the surface of CP or threshold pace: go slightly over and you'll crash, go under and you won't get the most out of it. They're probably my favourite road distance, because, like the marathon, it tests an important physiological barrier. Where the marathon tests the fuel side, the 10mi tests the oxygen side of "combustion". Elites run the half in about an hour, which boggles the mind.
@EDDBUD Two of the biggest running events in the Netherlands are the Damloop -a 10mi from Amsterdam to Zaandam- and the Zevenheuvelenloop -a 15k where Joshua Cheptegei ran the world record. But I guess after Brexit, that doesn't count as "around here".
Dear Mr. Midsole. Where do ya think the Under Armour Elite fits into the mix? I don’t think there’s enough foam to protect for the half or full; but a 10k ???
I'll probably use Hyperion Elite 4 for my next 10k... very underrated and hated by many reviewers (because they are not using peba) but I love em for faster session and shorter races
Streakfly for track or 5k, Hoka Rocket X2 for 5k/10k, Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris for half and maybe a marathon but think I'd go Nike Alphafly 3 for the full snickers!
Signed up for Manchester 2025 after a great event this year, got a pb and feel I can hopefully achieve more next year. Hopefully will bump into you at the start, finish or somewhere in between. But first Valencia is calling in December!
I just smashed my PB at our popular 10miles in Belgium today. Seems only the UK don’t do them 😂. Raced in a old pair of Speed 3’s with already 600k on them. Phenomenal shoe
Will be doing the largest 10 miler in the US in the Sky Paris. Depending on how it goes ill do my first marathon in november. Considering the pro 3 for that because it would be nice to have some more support over the longer distance.
Hi edd, top vid as always. I got the Takumis and Sky Paris (and prime x strung for that matter) after your top recommendations. Many, many thanks amazingly, that rotation has allowed me to me so consistent and make huge progress. Quick question. What are the socks you swear by?
I tried the metaspeed Paris edge and sky at the Tokyo expo earlier this year. The difference between the 2 is the same as last versions. Though the Paris is way better than the last rev. I'm a cadence runner that would like to stride more and the sky suits me better both times, maybe it's because of the more cushioning at the front. Just bought the sky Paris 😁
Hey Ed, great content as ever! Is there any word on when Puma is releasing Deviate Nitro Elite 3 and Deviate Nitro 3 in UK? Currently only run in Puma and I love them, excellent value and great feel on the run!
Is was wondering wether Puma and Adidas offer their performance shoes with any kind of discount in the UK? Havent seen ANYTHING on discount from both for ages, not even old colourways in last sizes... Puma difn't even lets me use a birthday code on any of their running shoes
Puma is a good option. Im using the elite 2 and can be considered as a second option for short distance. I think that any asics with carbon plate is better under 21K. Wait for real discounts.
Superb line up ed, but which shoe would do it for you for all the distances, if you could have one and only one. Would it be alphafly 3 or metaspeed paris
These times are interesting to me as they show a very different running pattern from mine. I can barely run a sub-20 5K (pb 19:53), HM PR is 93 mins, and just ran a full at 3:09:32 5 wks ago. I cannot imagine being able to run sub-19 5K anytime soon but I feel pretty confident I can run a sub-3 marathon within the next 6-12 months. I guess our specific training programs would look very different.
@@EDDBUD I now have the saucony sinister but it's more of a summer shoe (you can see right through the upper). Would you recommend the Takumi Sen? I'll check out thje liberate, I like puma shoes, thanks!
Your understanding of race and quickness is like the turtle race against rabbit 😀5K and 10K are not racing more of falling asleep while you are running up right. Racing stops after 500 to 1000 meters max, which is called hunting distance.
@EDDBUD I've been sarcastic that I don't see athleticism in marathon running and it is rather about efficiency. Most of the champions look like they are starving or from a very small stature to be able to cope with "so to say" fuelling. Other than that there are many articles and proofs that long distance running not only destructive to your bones, in particular hips, ankle but also bad for the heart! Many marathon runners are dying in young ages due to low rhythmic repetitive pressure caused by this style of running. The angle of running is very upright and that uses less elasticity of tendons and muscles and ligaments in "attack" or "power" mode, hence hunting distance sprinting.
@@fab-infotech-solutions That's an interesting comment but given the speed marathon runners are actually travelling at (I'm not sure a lot of people can grasp how fast the top guys and girls are running), I would say they are super elite athletes just like any other athlete at the top of their game.
I purchased a Nike vaporfly 3 and I am not having a very bad time with it. I've ran 16 miles with them so far and the heal area (of the right foot only) is very loose, I tried tightening it as tight as possible and every time I start running in them, I can feel the looseness of it and my ankle starts to hurt. Am I the only one experiencing something like his?

My go-to race shoe for any distance is the Saucony Ride 17. Why? Because it’s the fastest shoe I own! I only started running 4 months ago so I don’t need anything faster or fancier at this stage.
Just buy Saucony endorphin shift, speed and pro for any distance. Right now they are on another level compared to anything else. Cushioned like Hoka, except more lightweight and faster.
Edd - any place to get the AF 3 in the uk size 10/us 11? Can't find them anywhere here except huge markups on secondary sites - stock x, eBay in the US - even with the currency exchange - never was a vapor fly fan but if these can get me through those last marathon miles, I'll try them - taking the sky's on a long run this weekend for the half but if you think the af3 help more during those long distances, will try etc.
You mention ‘blown out air pods’ in the Alpha Fly 3… is that likely with the new design? It happened to me on my Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% within about 30km of accumulative running, so have never worn them again. Such a waste of money!! But my Alpha 2s have been great & I love them.
Give me a little help, between the alphafly 3, vaporfly 3 and metaspeed sky paris, which one is better for someone who is 84 kg, 1.72cm and has been training running for a year. I mean to run all the competitions. I send you a hello from Colombia.
Out here in the United States in high school cross country which is a 5k almost every single runner runs in vaporflys or flats, not one other brand in sight lmao

Looking forward to your review of the redesigned TS10. Curious why they didn't uprev it to the TS11.
@Wings_nut I don't know all the latest lingo but what does "uprev" mean?
@blueskydays413 Moving up the revision (version) from 10 to 11, since it was a redesign.
@@MyFatAdaptedLife Thanks. Is the TS11 a new redesign again rather than a tweak like how they just changed the upper in the TS8 to TS9.
@@blueskydays413 Adidas works in mysterious ways.
Has it been redesigned? The 10 only came out at the start of 2024
What do you think about Sky Paris for full marathon?
Bit too quick for me
Dear Mr. Midsole. Where do ya think the Under Armour Elite fits into the mix? I don’t think there’s enough foam to protect for the half or full; but a 10k ???
Half for me. It’s a more responsive model.
I'll probably use Hyperion Elite 4 for my next 10k... very underrated and hated by many reviewers (because they are not using peba) but I love em for faster session and shorter races
I tried to get a review pair of those but brooks have gone quiet on me
Takumi Sen for everything. Full beans.
Streakfly for track or 5k, Hoka Rocket X2 for 5k/10k, Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris for half and maybe a marathon but think I'd go Nike Alphafly 3 for the full snickers!
Can’t believe the London marathon used to be sponsored by Mars. Can you imagine it now? 🤣
Signed up for Manchester 2025 after a great event this year, got a pb and feel I can hopefully achieve more next year.
Hopefully will bump into you at the start, finish or somewhere in between.
But first Valencia is calling in December!
Oh. Now that’s tempting 👍🏼
Thanks Edd, I love your videos and will try to support you when I can. Best wishes, Roshan 😊👊🏾
Many thanks for the super support. I appreciate it 👍🏼👊
You’re very welcome Edd, have a great day 😊
I just smashed my PB at our popular 10miles in Belgium today. Seems only the UK don’t do them 😂. Raced in a old pair of Speed 3’s with already 600k on them. Phenomenal shoe
They have some but not as many
Will be doing the largest 10 miler in the US in the Sky Paris.
My fav are from UYN the runners five. Best socks out there. They are toe socks but insanely good and keep the toes looking and feeling good
Hi-tech silver shadow 😂. I had them in the 80s and early 90s. Put me off running for 20 years 🤣.
🤣
Hykes Ultra Sport, best shoes I have owned and will never go back to regular shoes.
The sky is superb. Can’t believe the edge can be better
@@EDDBUD for me the edge is pointless, it's just a lesser performance shoe, but we are all a little bit different, I'm sure it suits someone.
Hey Ed, great content as ever! Is there any word on when Puma is releasing Deviate Nitro Elite 3 and Deviate Nitro 3 in UK? Currently only run in Puma and I love them, excellent value and great feel on the run!
Shouldn’t be too long now on those 2
Great as always 😊
Thank you so much 😀
From where can I buy takumi sen, I can't seem to find it and has been searching for 1 month
It’s been out in the uk for ages. Where in the world are you based?
@@EDDBUD India
Silver shadow, the classic army issue 🤌
🪙
Is was wondering wether Puma and Adidas offer their performance shoes with any kind of discount in the UK?
Havent seen ANYTHING on discount from both for ages, not even old colourways in last sizes...
Puma difn't even lets me use a birthday code on any of their running shoes
Check startfittness for such deals. They have loads on offer
You showed Asics Metaspeed Edge and were talking about Asics metaspeed Sky😅.You are the finest Shoetuber btw😊
Nah image I had was the sky. Shoe in hand was the sky.
He wasn't the edge has a black sole
Puma is a good option. Im using the elite 2 and can be considered as a second option for short distance. I think that any asics with carbon plate is better under 21K. Wait for real discounts.
Yeah the Puma is a top shoe. One that lets your as you wish rather than being too controlling
Superb line up ed, but which shoe would do it for you for all the distances, if you could have one and only one.
Would it be alphafly 3 or metaspeed paris
Alphafly if i was on a desert island. With some roads of course.
nothing beats Takumi Sen 8 for 5km
Mine are as follows: 5k Adidas TS9, 10k Nike VF3, Half Marathon Nike VF3, Marathon Nike VF3.
Which is the white and green nike shoe in the thumbnail? Love the look and thought it was a streakfly but couldn't see anything like it online
Streakfly
Surprised that ASICS Metaspeed Sky Paris wasn't your top full marathon shoe or at least tied with Alphafly
I would bonk in that one. Too easy to run too quick
Morning!
Good morning and thanks for tuning in
Running beach 2 bay with the AF3 Volts hopefully it’s a snappy shoe
Hope it works out well for you
I´m still a massiv fan of the og AF ran my PBS in all 4 Events in a pair of them (18:50 , 39:30, 1:29:52, 3:10:45)
As a marathon shoe they hit the spot. Though as a taller and lighter built runner the super light stuff works better for me on the short distances
@@k29lee I‘m only 21 years old so it’s probably normal that I have a bit more top end speed
@@m0e566 Ah ha. I’m twice your age so that explains.
How about the Asics Magic Speed 3 for 10K and 5K? It's awesome for snappier runs and intervals.
Sounds like a good shout. Haven’t tried those so can’t comment too much
Hi Edd, which shoe would you recommend for a 5km parkrun in autumn/winter and can also be used on the tracks (which are sometimes quite slippery)
Hmm. Sadly few of the great low weight shoes lack the grip. Maybe check out the liberate nitro 2 from Puma?
@@EDDBUD I now have the saucony sinister but it's more of a summer shoe (you can see right through the upper). Would you recommend the Takumi Sen? I'll check out thje liberate, I like puma shoes, thanks!
What about the Endorphin Speed 4 and Adidas Adizero Boston 12 your thoughts
The speed is too flexible for racing for me. Good trainer though. The Boston is a decent shout though but heavy for some
Why not Metaspeed Paris for Marathon? Too narrow?
Bit to quick for me. I would burn out too fast
@@EDDBUD Ahahah even the "rejection" of Sky Paris is an actual compliment!
@@yiann1skI would go out to quick in a marathon in those!
Your understanding of race and quickness is like the turtle race against rabbit 😀5K and 10K are not racing more of falling asleep while you are running up right. Racing stops after 500 to 1000 meters max, which is called hunting distance.
Not entirely sure what this means but I quite enjoyed reading it.
@@fab-infotech-solutions That makes more sense. I’m more into half marathons. Not as taxing on the mind body and soul
@@fab-infotech-solutions That's an interesting comment but given the speed marathon runners are actually travelling at (I'm not sure a lot of people can grasp how fast the top guys and girls are running), I would say they are super elite athletes just like any other athlete at the top of their game.
what about rebellion pro 2?
Haven’t tested it
@@EDDBUD i mean the pro 1
I purchased a Nike vaporfly 3 and I am not having a very bad time with it.
I've ran 16 miles with them so far and the heal area (of the right foot only) is very loose, I tried tightening it as tight as possible and every time I start running in them, I can feel the looseness of it and my ankle starts to hurt.
Am I the only one experiencing something like his?
Maybe try a thicker sock plus a runners knot. I found both helped with the vf3
@@EDDBUD I always use a runners knot, I will have to try a thicker socks. Right now my ankle actually hurts again, and I only ran six miles this time.
@edd what shoe would you use for Snowdonia marathon, leaning towards the puma fast r2.
Is it on on trail like terrain?
@@EDDBUD some of it is like shail and the rest rd

My go-to race shoe for any distance is the Saucony Ride 17. Why? Because it’s the fastest shoe I own!
I only started running 4 months ago so I don’t need anything faster or fancier at this stage.
Just buy Saucony endorphin shift, speed and pro for any distance. Right now they are on another level compared to anything else. Cushioned like Hoka, except more lightweight and faster.
What would be good for a heavier runner doing there first marathon. Looking at a 5.5hr marathon
Maybe the primex or the Cielo x1. Superblast a good shout too
Edd - any place to get the AF 3 in the uk size 10/us 11? Can't find them anywhere here except huge markups on secondary sites - stock x, eBay in the US - even with the currency exchange - never was a vapor fly fan but if these can get me through those last marathon miles, I'll try them - taking the sky's on a long run this weekend for the half but if you think the af3 help more during those long distances, will try etc.
I think more coming early may
You mention ‘blown out air pods’ in the Alpha Fly 3… is that likely with the new design?
It happened to me on my Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% within about 30km of accumulative running, so have never worn them again. Such a waste of money!! But my Alpha 2s have been great & I love them.
You never know. They are a stone or thorn away from a blow out!
5k shoes also worth looking at the Brooks Hyperion Tempo - 226 g in a 10 and only £70 👍
Prefer perhaps the Hyperion max as it’s the same weight oddly with more cushion

Vaporfly the most versatile for that
Do you think the endorphin pro 3 would be okay for a 5k? Or should I buy something new lol
It’s just fine I think. All down to how you feel in it. Few shoes have less bulk for this distance.
Dankeschön! 🎉🎉🎉
I appreciate you tuning in
Out here in the United States in high school cross country which is a 5k almost every single runner runs in vaporflys or flats, not one other brand in sight lmao
Interesting. There’s more variation here. Though cross country in the uk is normally a little more muddy
When do you think the Puma deviate elite 3 will come out?
No word yet. Can’t imagine it’s too long!
