Hey yall at TRC! I recently started running, and really am enjoying it. Actually ran my first 10k yesterday in 58:49! Thank you for the many educational videos, they've really helped me start my journey
Ive been lucky enough to have access to heavily discounted shoes for the last 12 months. As a result I have LOTS (an obsessive number) of running shoes including: -Nike Alphafly3 -Nike Vaporfly3 -NB SC Elite v3 -NB SC Elite v4 -Adidas Adios Pro 3 -Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris I love them all for slightly different races... The adidas are probably the most durable.NB most comfortable, Asics fastest (for me) on 5-20k, Nike AF3 fastest for 42.2..... I couldn't chose just 1 pair!!!
I happened onto a reddit thread where the dominant sentiment was ragging on the Peg. I've never run in a Peg - they don't fit me well - but I don't understand the hate. It's been a top shoe for over 40 years, pretty much introduced the daily trainer paradigm - so obviously it works for a lot of people. If you don't get on with it there's no reason to denigrate people who do. I don't understand people sometimes.
After watching Andy review the Kiprun shoes, I decided to get a pair, and completed my 1st Marathon 8 days ago. I loved them so thank you for your time and I have spent a lot of time leading up to it watching your videos and got so many useful tips from you all.
I got the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 this summer. I used them twice, and smashed my 5K and 10K PB with them. Trying on different super shoes was tricky though, I did not find any shops that stocked a lot of super shoes, so I ended up ordering them online because I thought they looked cool and the reviews I had seen made me hope the shoe was suitable for me.
I recently bought the Adidas Adios Pro 3 (on a discount) and ran a half marathon PB in a time I hadn't dared to imagine to be possible. So far I am delighted with my purchase :)
Sadly, there isnt an easy way to tell if a super shoe is right for you unless you ran in them for between 15-50miles. No amount if testing it at a running store, or try their treadmill at store, it just wont work. Finding the right super shoe is actually costly if you dont know how to find it right.
I’m with the TRC office on this one, I bought the Deviate 3 on an educated guess on my preferred foams and drop etc and raced in it on Sunday, it didn’t disappoint.
My best for 2024: Daily trainer - Hoka Mach 6 Recovery - Brooks Glycerin Max Long run - Asics Superblast 2 Tempo run - Hoka Mach X 2 Race day - Nike Alphafly 3 / Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris
I'm nearly 60, been running since 1978 & just last week ran my fastest EVER 1km. In the Saucony Kinvara 14. Possibly the "least super shoe" shoe there is. I have several plated shoes, Cloud Tech Phase shoes, Nitro-infused, More foam, crazy whizz bang "all the gimmick" shoes.. but the Kinvara feels like negative weight. It feels like my body thinks shoes should feel like. It's the antithesis of all of these shoes.. And that's why I have a secret stash of them. Run what feels good.
I got the puma deviate nitro elite v 2s as a cheaper option a few months ago and been really impressed so bought the v3 and great shoe. For price they are a really good option there is no doubt slightly faster shoes it depends what you want I find them very springy and more stable than I expected.
I agree 100% to fixing my form first before trying a super shoe (which is what I'm working on rn), because after only 72km, I kinda erased the outer heel of my PUMA DNE3, which I admit is due to my bad form. 😭
I've got a pair of Adios Pro 3's and I really want to love them but I just can't! Picked up some Endorphin Pro 3's and I find them so much more comfortable!
Glad im not the only one disappointed in the Vaporfly 3. I have been searching for the 2 online but they seem impossible to find, even just at retail price.
So for me love the Rocket X2 used at all lengths but shine at longer runs (15k+ ). Have run 2-half’s, 2-15k, 1-10k, and 2-5k. Have no injuries and relatively very short recovery. If I was to buy another super shoe it would be the ASICS meta speed for ten miles or less (SOON)
I have a pair of ASICS Metaspeed Sky Paris which I’ve only run 21kms in so far for my fastest sessions. I’m about to take a 3 month break, for medical reasons, so I’m really looking forward to wearing my super shoes in the Eastleigh 10k in March 2025.
I run with Brooks adrenaline every day and Brooks glycerin for long run and race. Someday maybe I'll try a supershoe but I am not convinced by the duration (trying to be as sustainable as possible) and with overpronation and plantar fasciitis maybe not the best choice. First marathon next week, let's see how it goes🎉
Adiós Pro's for half/marathon....anything shorter Takumi sen 10 you can't beat it for speed sessions and 5km/10km races..slightly lower stack if you consider 33mmheel lower stack and loads of grip
Stacie has been getting into the supershoes this year. The puma diviate nitro 2s, and NewBalance SCs are in the lineup. Planning to run my first marathon in a decade in the NewBalances, we will see how it goes.
What would you guys recommend for mixed terrain? My local halfmarathon is like 70% road 30% gravel / forest paths. I recently got Vaporfly 3s which I do like (only used them for a 5k so far) but looking their durabilty don't think I want to use them for it. Most super shoes don't seem to be made for anything other than roads...

Could you include in your shoe review videos a discussion about the toe box? As someone with thin heels and a wide toe box, it is very hard to find shoes that work well, especially at different distances and speeds and terrains (and I can’t afford to have 7 pair!). It’s maddening because often, a pair will be okay on shorter runs and then tear my feet apart on a longer run, but also vice versa! anyone in the TRC office experience this? Advice?
Barefoot shoes tend to have wide toe boxes but they bring new challenges. Altra makes zero drop wide toe box shoes with more cushioning in most models than minimalist shoes.
Would love to know your guys/ gals thoughts during the next podcast regarding Emmaculate Anyango recent provisional suspension for doping violation. Maybe a good conversation to be had regarding drugs. Great channel by the way. I listen to your podcasts on all my runs.
Thanks for the video! Given their price tag and lower durability, how often do you typically use a super shoe during training to make sure there are no unexpected issues on race day? Also, does a "cheaper" plated shoe work as an alternative to running in race day shoes on a more regular basis? I just had a tough marathon experience with my quads seizing up halfway through, and I've been thinking more strength training and more runs in my race shoes will help next time around.
@@runningchannel haven’t made the jump quite yet, but since the Rebel V4’s are the only shoes that fit me beautifully, gonna try the SC Elite when I’m ready!
Yeah, new balance is so good with all their widths compared to Nike, currently rocking some 860v14s, wonder what other shoes I should try that I can get in a 2e, but I’m also wondering if my foot might be wider since my feet are still like filling the whole bottom
I think new balance have just released a wide version of the supercomp. But yeah it's so frustrating that there's seemingly none for runners with wide feet!
