I have the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris, Nike Valorfly 3, Nike Alphafly 3, Endorphin Elite, Puma Deviate Nitro 2, Puma Fast R Nitro 2, Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2, Adidas Adizero Pro 3, Adidas Takumi Sen 10, Under Armour Flow Velocity Elite. My favourites for racing at the moment are the Metaspeed Sky Paris, I have my 5km PB and Marathon PB in them. My second favourite are the Nike Vaporfly 3s, which I did my PB for the 1/2 marathon and 2nd fastest times over 5km and Marathon only recently lost to the Metaspeed Sky Paris. I have tried the Wave Rebellion Pro 2 a few times and when I start running, they feel quite propulsive pushing me to run fast but my legs aren't used to them and both times I have had to stop my run early due to my legs completely seizing up. I have never had this in any other shoe on any other run, so I don't really want to wear them again. I have just purchased a pair of the Metaspeed Edge Paris, will be interesting to see how these compare to the Sky Paris, I was told these are better if you have a high cadence, my average during my 5km pb was 197spm).
Can't believe you put the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2 in the tier C section 😧 For me it's at least a tier B shoe. I ran my last two marathons with them and find no fault with them 😊 They're light, cushioned and their grip is amazing 🤩
I'm also owner of this tier c shoe and I love it. Probably cheapest shoe here - I bought them for 145€ ofc it was discount but this is less even than discounted Kiprun KD900X LD.
I'm running in the Cielo X1 for my race this weekend, the only reason is because it's a road ultra. I agree it's not really a racer for anything that needs speed but a great leg saver for ultras. Thanks for making the list! It's very helpful in deciding what to choose for my fall marathon.
Love the way you keep your shoes clean for your reviews, unlike some others on the TH-cam. 1st run today in the adios pro 3, within 5k got used to the roll and love it, the right socks make all the difference with the upper fit and found the upper great, laces could do with some give like those that saucony use but a 2min off 10k pb on 1st run whoop whoop 🙌 cielo x1 I found unstable with the rear gap between midsole if land anywhere but mid foot which the shoe try’s to force you to be a mid foot runner, but as a slight lateral strike between rear and mid foot it was a wobbly beast.
Just started running again this past year and have put together a nice rotation. Absolutely loving the vaporfly 3 for fast work, and my AF3 pair just showed up on my porch today. Cant wait to try them, initial feel just trying them on feels fantastic. Will have to report back when i get some miles on them. The metaspeed sky paris has peaked my interest too.
For overall racing, list is good. Marathon specific Alphafly V3 is just amazing, just finished PB'ing by over 10mins from only last Oct 2023, and was also able to negative split by nearly 2mins. The weight reduction, new midsole profile and cutouts just are a thing of smooth and efficient awesomeness! And durability is a HUGE upgrade compared to the AF V1 and V2.
great video Edd, tried quite a few of the shoes on your list and agree with the majority of your conclusions, love the Metaspeed Sky Paris and Alphafly 3 but I would put the Rocket X2 in tier A myself, love it for 5 and 10k's. Don't like the uppers of the Adidas Adios Pro 3 or Mizuno Wave Rebellion pro and agree that the VF2 was a better shoe than the VF3.
Endo Pro3 assisted me happily to an 18 min PB in Boston 2 yrs ago so I just purchased one of the last pairs left in my size in the last produced colorway (manufactured only last year) heavily discounted 😊 But I also have v4 and am not sure which I like best! Re Takumi Sen, I have 2 pairs of v8 and they have far better midsoles than the shoe I wore on my 1st marathon in 2018, so I could probably even run a marathon in them. I think I could certainly do a HM but haven’t had the guts to try it, especially with multiple pairs now of Endo Pro in the house.
I have just cleaned up my pair of the Metaspeed sky and Vaporfly 4% flyknit. Going to do a shoes of the past ( well recent past ) video soon. I like dipping back into the older ones!
I don’t know if it’s my foot strike or cadence but the Cielo 1 actually has given me some of my fastest running at 40 years old even over ASICS metaspeed Sky Paris and I have almost always worn ASICS
Saucony pro 4 might be the best shoe I've owned. Seems to be able to cope with any pace but does shine the faster you go. I like the full sole with no cut outs so is quite stable and comfort maybe the best of all the racing shoes. Ran Edinburgh marathon and really didn't think about them at all just worked. Plenty people were wearing the new alphafly though so seems to be the most popular one.

I have most of those, what can I say, I have a shoe addiction. For me personally, the Vaporfly's for 5 and 10k's, the Alphafly's for half marathons, and the Adidas Pro 3 for marathons. Honorable mentions for the Sen 9 and Deviate nitro's though. But it's all a personal choice.
I'm curious as to why you pick AF for HM and AAP3 for FM ? can you explain your reasoning and liking ? (I'm an AF1 lover and can't fathom running in anything else at the moment)
@@Lyingfigure It's all to do with the 20 mile mark and after, when my form goes. The Alphafly's feel cluncky, whilst the Pro 3 seems to be better after that point. tbf there isnt a lot between them, but I do use the Pro 3 for all my long runs (as they are more resiliant and longer lasting), so am more used to them anyway. I am also an AF1 lover, especially when on offer, but they are not the most durable shoe.
Supershoes I own/have owned are Nike Vaporfly 1, 2 and 3, Alphafly 1, Adidas Takumi sen 8, and Saucony Speed 2 and 3 (if you count those in). The iterations of Vaporfly seems to be trending towards less aggressive and more stable shoes. I still use my first pair from time to time, and it still has good energy return (after 1000 miles), although of course it is quite worn and ill-looking. But it still works, which is quite impressive in comparison to how short durability they were said to should have. I didn't like the vaporfly 2 as much, as it seemed just less bouncy without being better in other ways. Vaporfly 3 I like but haven't run enough in yet to know for sure, but I like that they have become lighter and a bit more stable. For marathon I found the earlier iterations a bit too aggressive in the rocker, so i got muscular fatigue with them after the first 1/2 of a full marathon. Don't know but I hope the vaporfly 3 is better there. Takumi sen 8 was good, but I felt the sole was a bit unstable and uneven so when I got injured I blamed them, and got rid of them. Haven't tried adidas since (and havent needed to since there is competion for my needs in that compartment. If we cound Saucony speed in, I really like those as a all-round shoe. I tried those at a marathon once, after giving up on the vaporfly, and they did indeed help me (i think, not scientifically) getting me much further before muscular fatigue kicked in. Of shoes I am interested in I would say Asics metaspeed paris for shorter distances, and I could give saucony endorphin pro a try, or a new try on the latest iteration of the alphaflys. Also of course curious to see how my relatively recent pair of Vaporfly 3 will measure up when I get to try them more in races.
For us Gen X lads that went to secondary school in the late 80s, it's really hard to define how important and mind blowing Public Enemy were. They changed the way I thought about the world, genuinely. Still do. Chuck is such a prophet. Back on point, I really must disagree on the Takumi Sen, surely it's the perfect shoe for what it does? Versatility isn't necessarily important in every shoe, that's why I have a wide rotation. It's like a Ferrari convertible, I only bring it out on sunny race days. Great video, think I'm going to try the Endorphin pro 4, as I skipped the 3.
I prefer the endorphin pro 3 and cielo x1 as a trainer for long runs. The ASICS sky and edge and vapor fly were all to unstable for me as I had ankle roll. Adios pro 3 upper and heal stitching was bad. I agree on the saucony elite it's a decent shoe but not a tier. The alpha fly is just a mid tier for me too.
I will keep an eye out for the Endorphin Pro 4. Hopefully, it will come on sale, if not for EOFY, at least for Black Friday/Cyber Monday near the end of the year. I have so many carbon plated race shoes there is no urgency to purchase. Thank goodness.
Mizuno in D is a bit harsh. I get that its not a shoe that fits every runner. But as a mid foot striker I do enjoy the shoe a lot. Grate value for the price, and its currently the shoe that I hold my half marathon pb in. So its quite fast as well.
Regarding great reviews - I maybe will have to look at the endorphin pro 4 and finally did sneak a pair of AF3 into the house. With the SEP4, is the fit like the Metaspeed sky? Btw, I saw Public Enemy (Fear of a Black Planet album tour as a teenager talking about my age! - Great show and controversial at the same time. Ran my first marathon yesterday in the Cielo X1. They felt amazing right to the end and looked after my feet and legs well. Which is saying something given it was 28C in Stockholm and the rest of my body was miserable from about 3k onwards 😅
Nice job Edd, If i have to select only one from category A for Race days/ Long runs, which one would you recommend ? I heard a lot about Saucony being the best running brand, but this reputation have disappeared after the raise of social media
Fortunately my foot is not narrow so my Pro 3’s fit well, looking forward to the Pro 4. Overall, I reach for the Adidas over my vapor fly’s , just like them better.
Ed, thanks for another great video. I am starting training for a marathon in Jan 2025. What sets of shoes would yo recommend? I started running again only recently for this endeavor. I am on Asics gel Cumulus 25s. They have been pretty comfortable for my first stints of just 5k.
For me, after several comparison runs so far: S: Endorphin Elite, AlphaFly 3 A: Metaspeed Edge Paris, Rocket X 2 B: Vaporfly 3, Endorphin Pro 3 (don’t have 4 yet) C: Adios Pro 3, Deviate Nitro Elite 2, Cielo X 1 D: Wave Rebellion Pro 2 There are others I’ve tried that don’t even make it onto this tier list. Good vid, Edd!
Ha ha ha.. My favourite are the Cielo X1 and Mizuno wave Rebellion Pro V1. I am a heel striker and slow runner but the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro V1 is perfect for me 🎉
Which shoes are best for a 3:30 marathon finish? 8:00min/mile? Some say that shoes with stiff carbon plates would respond to slower paces! Is that true?
Is it true that the Alphafly 3 is hardly usable for running more than 4 hours because eventually your form will break down and heel striking becomes your only option?
Hello to everyone from Russia! In connection with this terrible war, we runners have been blocked from all access to normal running shoes, alas. Websites with stores are blocked, and the largest stores, such as Nike and Adidas, have left the market. I have Nike Vaporfly 1, 2, 3 in my collection. There is also Endorphin pro4, and Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 1, 2. I wear Nike Vaporfly 3 for the marathon, I think they are the softest. At the half marathon - Puma Deviate Nitro Elite2 - they are very responsive and push well!
Alphafly V3 is definitely not a hit for me...doesn't have the bounce and squish of V1.. the forefoot and pods don't squish and rebound anything like V1..I will work with it some more..definitely not a 1/2 or full marathon shoe..V1 and V2 were race ready out of the box..V3 is much worse than the previous versions..
Decided to buy an only once used Volt AF3 for €200 shipped. Looks brand new. Should arrive any day now. Literally more then half of these bring sold used are counterfeit. Really need to watch out for details. The zoomx paint of the nike logo looks way better on the fakes. It's the main giveaway of them being a replica.
@@EDDBUD Yeah sad but true. Something funky is going on with the replica's of the AF3 and Nike's official promotions. See, every AF has cracks in the paint on the Nike logo where it goes from upper because of wrinkly zoomx. Now quite a few times, I have seen promotional pictures of both Alphafly proto, Volt and even the upcoming Blue ribbon edition that clearly looked to smooth to be zoomx. I'd almost put on a tinfoil hat and claim Nike is in with these new extremely high quality looking replica. They look better then the real thing and are made of EVA foam.
Have you ever had an "S" shoe or are you still waiting ? I guess as I keep going back to the Vaporfly 1 that would have to be mine at least in recent years.
@@EDDBUD Ah yes the 4% was a real game changer even a size down for me as they never did a UK 13 in them. I've given up getting 12s now like say in the Metaspeeds.
Superb video as always!!👏🏽💯⭐️ I guess my ‘S’ shoe is the Alphafly 1. Had a few pairs and nothing since has felt as good on my feet. Still train on occasion with a couple of older war scarred pairs 🙌🏽
I bought the Asics Metaspeed Sky+ recently but I get sored my Achilles tendon when running slow, warm up and cool down. Anyone has the same pain? I don't know if it happens the same with the Metaspeed Sky Paris.
Since I'm non elite 🏃♂️ I find myself less & less interested in any of these pricy toys. So I would reiterate the qusetion: What are the best racing shoes for human beings (needing 3-4h to complete the marathon)? And not spending anything close to 200 credits! This sounds to be a grey area no one can handle the truth 😅 "We need nothing SUPER" 🤷♂️
@@EDDBUD I like TS 👌 but for short stuff. It's not the price that bothers me - this will drop no matter how super the shoe is. I'd like to see a guide on non-elite shoes that will do the trick on my goal 3h20 race time. I guess, taking adidas example, the new Boston 12 is just right. And TS? - risky! So a racing shoe list, excluding the hot 🔥 picks, could be an interesting battle in the midfield 😋
I'm calling it now: Tier S will be Superblast 2 😄
Very likely!
I was thinking the exact same thing
It’s not a racing shoe it’s the most overrated “training” shoe I’ve ever tried
it's not overated though. @@richshelley2922

D: Wave Rebellion Pro 2
There are others I’ve tried that don’t even make it onto this tier list.
Good vid, Edd!
You have to try the Under Armour Velociti elite 2.
Trying to get a pair for review 👍🏼
thank you! more powers to you!
Welcome!
Ha ha ha.. My favourite are the Cielo X1 and Mizuno wave Rebellion Pro V1. I am a heel striker and slow runner but the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro V1 is perfect for me 🎉
Glad it’s hitting the spot!
After my Vaporfly V2 lost the pop at around 100 miles I decided not to get V3.. Looks new but midsole flat like a pitta.
I like this one much more than the v2. Way lighter
Algocomm 4 Eddbud !
Would you reccomend takumi sen 10 or metaspeed sky paris for 5k xc?
what do you think about diadora gara carboon ?
Sadly I’ve not had a chance to test that or even see it!
What would you recommend for a marathon on gravel? The Endorphin Pro 4 or Adios 3?
Either to be honest. Those are out and out road shoes. Maybe the peg trail 5 or the asics Fuji speed?
The Endorphin Elite segment was pure gold 😂
I always find out about my chickens life before I select it at the restaurant. Now that’s a very niche Portlandia joke. 🤣👍🏼
Which shoes are best for a 3:30 marathon finish? 8:00min/mile? Some say that shoes with stiff carbon plates would respond to slower paces! Is that true?
I don’t see why pace is relative after all
Hi. What do you think about the Asics magic speed 4, please??. Like to EDDBUD. Have a good day.
🙄
Where do you position the Adios Pro 3 here?
It’s early on in the video
No table wine in this list, these are simply vin ordinaire 🍷
Bain murie
Is it true that the Alphafly 3 is hardly usable for running more than 4 hours because eventually your form will break down and heel striking becomes your only option?
Not at all. It’s fine
@@EDDBUD thanks
Not having anything in the top tier is puzzling me a little, not sure why it's there if you're not using it 🤔
As tier lists always have the s tier. Nothing right now is perfect though.
I like a premier
Gold!
Alphafly v1, the rest as training shoes
Thanks for tuning in 👍🏼👊
Wave rebellion pro got 98% "the closest shoe to perfect" you have ever reviewed got a D
Just hasn’t met my expectations long term. I’m allowed to change my mind!
What’s the fastest shoe for a 5k?
Maybe the origina Vaporfly or Takumi sen 10
Adidas adios Pro 3 Amazing shoe. I am the only one who think the upper in great 🎉
Glad it works for you! It’s those front loops just don’t quite work for me
Love my saucony pro 3 but I ran Stockholm marathon last weekend and I could have used a shoe with more cushion. Any suggestions? I am 84 kg
The pro 3 was quite squashy. Maybe something with more resilience? Superblast?
@@EDDBUD I have the Superblast and halfway I really wanted them on my feet:) when racing it’s more fun to run in carbon shoes
AF3 definitely felt like some sort of heavy clog when I tried it. Felt like a weeble….
Remember they never fell down though!
@@EDDBUD exactly! Lean forward slightly, roll forward. Lean back slightly, roll back. Proper weeble stuff 😆
Let’s hope things get back to peace soon and we can unite as runners.
Does Alphafly 3 work for heavier runner (90 kg)?
Don’t see why not
Alphafly V3 is definitely not a hit for me...doesn't have the bounce and squish of V1.. the forefoot and pods don't squish and rebound anything like V1..I will work with it some more..definitely not a 1/2 or full marathon shoe..V1 and V2 were race ready out of the box..V3 is much worse than the previous versions..
What's the difference between the Sen 10 is the SL2 (I think I got that right)?
No energy rods and no continental rubber. Plus a foam around the lightstrike pro on the sl2
@@EDDBUD thank you for that. I'll check out more of your videos on SL2, they sound awesome.
Ah yes all great shoes just one problem i can't afford it
The Adios pro 3 is discounted heavily here at times
Best widefoot option?
None are what I call wide friendly. All narrow.
@@EDDBUD Thank you
No New Balance SuperComp Elite V4?
Haven’t tried it
Decided to buy an only once used Volt AF3 for €200 shipped. Looks brand new. Should arrive any day now. Literally more then half of these bring sold used are counterfeit. Really need to watch out for details. The zoomx paint of the nike logo looks way better on the fakes. It's the main giveaway of them being a replica.
Gotta get the poor paint versions 🤣👍🏼
@@davidh5429 They seem to go after some replica makers and not others
Have you ever had an "S" shoe or are you still waiting ? I guess as I keep going back to the Vaporfly 1 that would have to be mine at least in recent years.
I think the Vaporfly 4% flyknit or original next% are top
@@EDDBUD Ah yes the 4% was a real game changer even a size down for me as they never did a UK 13 in them. I've given up getting 12s now like say in the Metaspeeds.
Superb video as always!!👏🏽💯⭐️ I guess my ‘S’ shoe is the Alphafly 1. Had a few pairs and nothing since has felt as good on my feet. Still train on occasion with a couple of older war scarred pairs 🙌🏽
U missed TYR Valkyrie Elite Carbon!
Just run 10km PB -2min in Vaporfly 2 I bought on Ebay 😂
The v2 was a good one. Loved my proto pair.
🔥🔥
I bought the Asics Metaspeed Sky+ recently but I get sored my Achilles tendon when running slow, warm up and cool down. Anyone has the same pain? I don't know if it happens the same with the Metaspeed Sky Paris.
Not had that issue myself. Any viewers?
Where is the New Balance Elite 4?????
Haven’t tested it
Hello!
Since I'm non elite 🏃♂️
I find myself less & less interested in any of these pricy toys.
So I would reiterate the qusetion:
What are the best racing shoes for human beings (needing 3-4h to complete the marathon)?
And not spending anything close to 200 credits!
This sounds to be a grey area no one can handle the truth 😅
"We need nothing SUPER" 🤷♂️
Not sure I agree. Shoes like the Takumi sen 8 or 9 are often less than 100 quid
Alpha number 1 adidas pro number 2 and my daily trainer. Im disappointed bud on horrible
1. Alphafly 3
2. Alphafly 3
3. Alphafly 3
A solid list 🤣👍🏼
Is it wider than alphafly 1?
@@randenlewis152
It’s about a half size longer.
And just a wee wider.
Point of Inquiry Edd: is this not a channel of enthusiasts? I would state that it is. 🤣
It absolutely is. 🤣👍🏼
No New Balance?
Haven’t tried the new fuelcell as it’s the same upper as that rebel v4
