  • Here's a quick video of the ICE storm of 2023 in Texas/San Marcos area and the damage our trees suffered.
It was very pretty but the weight of the ice cause 2 power outages for us, one 5 hrs and the other almost 15 hrs. With the fireplace roaring we were fine and our precautions for water and other issues prevented us from experiencing any concerns. It was COLD outside though...especially with the wind chill.
Overall, temps stayed around 31+ for several days and the storm only lasted for 3 main days. The PEC power crews were VERY busy and fixed a downed power pole about 1 mile from us (reason for the 15hr power outage). Thanks to them it was not severe and we did fine.
We stayed put for the most part and stayed close to the fire.
The ice storm in all it's destruction has provide us with firewood probably for 2+ years. We have TONS and will have to rent or borrow a log splitter to mange all the wood. Mostly oaks trees but a few cedars got whacked also.
We've been cleaning up for 4 days now and still more to go....lots of chainsaw action and burn piles (leaves etc).
ICE is a wrecking ball but nature is nature. Wonder what next year will bring.
    CYA
