    Yeah it's a crazy lens. You can use in all light conditions and EF cameras or with RF adapter. I got mine yesterday. The lens is an engineering optical marvel. One of the sharpest on the planet.

      Yes it is! Yesterday I was shooting product photography in a commercial studio that owned an EF 135mm Tilt-shift Len! I had no idea they came in a Tilt-shift configuration, It was amazing!

      @@MikeFilancPhotography I never seen a tilt EF 135mm. Anyway. Tested the lens now and it's one of the sharpest Canon EF lenses ever made. The EF 50 mm 1.2 L, 85mm 1.2 L and mine 135mm, the 200mm white lenses 1.8 and 2 IS. The sharpest ever made. They made them in the mid 1990's. They spend the production budget where it mattered. No recycling shit. The build quality and the craftmanship was way above all others. Nothing can beat up a 1991-2012 EF "L" lens.

    Love the model’s personality! Never owned this particular lens. Like the R5 images better for colors

      Thanks, yes the R5 is great! I was a little surprised with the colors I got from Portra160 on this shoot, but it was an overcast day. Thanks for watching!

      @@MikeFilancPhotography it has been a long time since I have shot with film. Still have my Elan II so maybe someday. I bought the R5 and thinking I’m going to sell my 5d iv now that I’ve had a chance to use mirrorless a bit. Still not sold on evf but feel benefits outweigh staying with optical vf.

      @@nicolecole2310 Awesome! You should shoot film again it's back in style, haha! Yes the benefits of an EVF are very apparent when shooting natural light portraits. I still don't prefer it over an OVF for my studio work though. Anytime you need to cut out all ambient light and light with strobes the OVF out shines the EVF. I miss my 5D III for studio work and will probable buy another DLSR for studio shoots. I've been eyeing Hasselblad's H System, a guy can dream!

    I used to do some serious deep space imaging up to 2015. There was a piece of software that we crucial to resolving and then aligning the stars. It had a very hefty price tag, and it was already 15 years old. I made a comment once that I was not prepared to pay that kind of money for a piece of software that had not been upgraded in over 15 years. Someone in the community replied with the question " does it do what you require of it ?", to which I replied yes it certainly does. He said, then what is the point of an ' upgrade '? I knew that I had been wrong in the first place. We have become addicted to hardware and software upgrades these days. In most cases they offer nothing worthwhile in the way of ' upgrade ' but they require each other to keep that self serving circle going. If this lens still produces the goods then why are we bothered and ask for an upgrade? Forgot to add BTW, very good shoot.

      Hey thanks for stoping by and bringing up a very good point about gear acquisition syndrome (GAS). It's important to remind ourselves sometimes why we're taking photos in the first place. We choose photography for the art and not just to become gear consumers. Right?

    Dope video. Your model is on fire

  • @thomascarlsson7722
    @thomascarlsson7722 ปีที่แล้ว

    Checked Your amazing video once again. Lovely work. Mostly i use ISO 160 with this lens. No need for more on a day like the one in Your video. Cloudy day is so good for this lens. The amount of light that can go thru this piece of glass is so amazing. Looking thru it and You see a biiig bright hole. A juice can size. Keep on rockin guys. I use it on a EOS 6D now. The pic quality is good enough whatever point You compare it. It's 20,2 Mpix Full frame. Canon Luxury Liners, The "L" for life.

    I was on the fence about getting this lens but this was the exact practical use I wanted to see. I was worried about the strobe from early on as I saw the softbox sway. Model great and made the shoot ill. I'll be using this on an R6 so hopefully similar results~ Stay Creative.

      Thats awesome! This lens is pretty special, perfect for portraits. Yeah that light stand was blowing in the wind from the start, should have seen that coming! I hope you pull off some great shots with your new lens! Thanks for watching!

      @@MikeFilancPhotography Yes it was painful watching the light go down that. On the Upside, you had a great model and the shots were great. Yes appears so with the 135mm lens, I wanted to get the Samyang but its fully manual, if it had the assist I wouldn't mind but the Canon version is more practical and Sigma's version is out of budget range for now :-)

    • @MikeFilancPhotography
      @MikeFilancPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats okay, I replaced the light quickly! Mike is a great model I agree. You know Sigma makes really nice prime lens especially the ART Series but you're right about about the price difference. The 135mm from sigma is more expensive than the EF 135mm on the second hand market. I think the EF 135mm F 2 L is one of the best lens you can find from Canon for under $1k. I'd say that lens and the EF 100mm F 2.8 L Macro are some of the best bargains in the Canon second hand lens market. Both lens were made for professionals and both lens can be found for under $1k.

      @@MikeFilancPhotography Absolutely, I already have the Tokina 100mm so covered. I'll be just fine in getting the 135mm 2nd hand unless my lotto numbers come up lol. Last week I got the Sigma 35mm 1.4 its a dream :-)

    • @MikeFilancPhotography
      @MikeFilancPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've personally never tested the Tokina 100mm but I've heard good things about! I do have a copy of the Sigma 35mm F 1.4 Art lens and completely agree, it's brilliant! I really like using it when I shoot film, that F 1.4 really helps maximize you films ISO!

    When using with R5, how is the performance of the lens at wide open?

    • @MikeFilancPhotography
      @MikeFilancPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for the question! With the Canon EOS EF - RF adapter I've found that all EF lenses I've tested behave normally. That is they behave exactly as they would on an older EF DSLR body. I remember having to switch to manual focusing when Michael was heavily backlit but that constant with my experiences with EF lenses on DSLR bodies.

    • @MikeFilancPhotography
      @MikeFilancPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mordavian I haven't used it for video personally. I know people do. I would remind you that it is not stabilized and that on a crop sensor the field of view is very narrow. Good luck!

    oh wow, you guys were great!! you just earned a follow my good sir...is that a macro lens? you were really close at one point, closer than I thought you could get with a 135 prime.

    • @MikeFilancPhotography
      @MikeFilancPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! We had a blast on this shoot! Unfortunately this lens isn't a Macro lens. It has a close focusing distance of 3 feet. If you're looking for a great portrait lens that's also a Macro I'd recommend the EF 100m F/2.8L Macro USM.

    Does it work with the Canon R5C?

    • @MikeFilancPhotography
      @MikeFilancPhotography  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't tested that combination but with the Canon EF - EOS R mount adapter you could mount this lens on an R5-C. Also consider purchasing or renting the RF version of the 135mm, it has a maximum aperture of F / 1.8 now and image stabilization.

  • @steelty
    @steelty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the lens suffer any sharpness decrease or fringing on the R5?

    • @MikeFilancPhotography
      @MikeFilancPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I didn't encounter any of that! I mounted it with Canon's EF-EOS R adapter which perfectly reproduces the original EF flange distance, making the lens preform precisely as it was designed to on a Canon DSLR. No quality is lost.

    • @auksmann
      @auksmann 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The R5 is undoubtedly a more technically advanced camera than the Elan 7, but when it comes to the result, I have the exact opposite opinion: the soft and artistic view of the Elan 7 is much more pleasant than the R5's digital naturalism. Well, the Portra 160 also plays a very important role here.
