    That budget friendly option is a good idea to show a bit. Most people like to see how a photographer using the skills he has learned can make great shots with basic gear, and seeing great results with affordable gear can only help more people get into the craft.
    And that is a good thing to see. Make great shots with the gear you have, and move up as your ability grows to fully make use of the higher end stuff fully……

    I don't use my 135 f2 very often, but I will NEVER sell it! It is the lens I pull out when I really want to knock it out of the park. It is truly one of Canon's most magical lenses. One youtube reviewer called it the "Lord Of The L RIngs". I also have a 1.4 converter, so it becomes a 189mm f2.8 lens.
    Another lens I love is the 100mm f2. Super cheap and super sharp. I like it more than the 85mm f1.8.

    I use the same setup! EOS RP and the 135 f2. It is my favorite combo. The eye tracking makes it so hard to not to get every shot in focus.

    Nice video, I shoot with an eos r, and I can never find good videos of actual shoots with it...

      Oh awesome! I owned the R several years ago then bought the R5.
      I ended up buying the R again as my backup and to shoot video.

    Great video. One thing about focusing with that 85 F2 - Using the focus limiter in the middle setting really speeds up the focus for portraits. If you keep it on full, it can definitely hunt a bit.

      Watch models. Work with some models for sure! I’m sure there are plenty of posing videos on TH-cam. Watch and watch and then practice. The more you can practice posing the better and more comfy you’ll get at posing!

    Hello Master Jason:
    Please help and give me some advice,
    The camera I am currently using is Canon EOS R10,
    The kit lens used with it is (RF-S18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM)
    My main subject matter is toy photography.
    The secondary shooting content is street photography or portrait photos.
    Now I want to buy new lenses, after watching your video,
    Want to compare between Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and RF85mm F2 Macro IS STM
    After making a choice, I would like to ask you to give me some advice on which lens is more suitable for me? Thank you.

    • @J.Allen_Photography
      @J.Allen_Photography  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So your R10 is a crop sensor camera. I’d probably go with the budget friendly 50mm f1.8. For portraits. With the crop, it’ll be closer to 80mm in length. Consider buying a refurbished RF 35mm f1.8 also. On the crop sensor, it’s closer to 50mm. Plus, the 35 has some macro capabilities like closer focusing. It may be more versatile for you right now than either the 50 or the 85.

    Why blow out the bg when using a fill, why not balance and get some detail, style preference?? I've got the 50 1.8 love it! Yeah, photography isn't a cheap hobby...

    • @J.Allen_Photography
      @J.Allen_Photography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that morning is was very overcast. So even bringing back details in the sky would show next to nothing. I honestly didn’t need the flash at all really, I just prefer to brighten the face and eyes a little more. So for this, probably preference for this shoot.
      The 50mm 1.8 is solid. I will say, and I noticed on each lens other than the 135, the tack sharp for these lenses isn’t the same tack sharp as the L lenses I prefer to shoot with. Will clients notice, possibly. So if it’s a hobby, then definitely no need to spend $2k plus for lenses.

    I just want to know whether your gorgeous model was budget friendly: TFP or the price of a refurnbished lens? Where did she learn how to pose? Unusual costume, but next time she probably needs a belt or suspenders.
