    I love this lens. I use it for weddings and events. I used to use the 70-200 f2.8. The 135 is so sharp that I can crop and still get good quality images.

    It's my favorite lens. I was in a situation this weekend on assignment where I was getting photos that needed to be razor sharp from a distance. This was my go to, and it never failed.
    I'd go so far as to say I might want to get someone who was starting out in prime photography and have them use this lens. With the short telephoto distance, it forces the user to pick out a specific subject and not try to cram in as much as they would with a 35 or 50

    Great video. I remember that song by Anita Ward!!!!! I used to DJ back in the day, and If “Are you single” was my 50mm, “ring my bell” was my 70-200.

    I have owned the 135 f/2 6 years now. When I recently moved from the 5D IV to the R5, this lens was one of a few EF lenses I decided to keep. Yes, I know that there is now an RF 135 f/1.8, but honestly, this lens is so good that I have no compelling reason to fork out 2 grand to upgrade. It focuses plenty fast (maybe not as fast as the RF, but who cares?). It is very sharp to my eye and has a very nice bokeh. There is something special about the bokeh with this lens that is hard to put into words. For R5/R6 shooters - don't assume that because this lens is relatively inexpensive on the used market, that it isn't worth considering. Unless you just have money to burn, I would encourage anyone looking for a fantastic tele with reasonably shallow DOF and great bokeh, to take a serious look at this lens.

    Great contribution, Vanessa, and thank you for getting us a bit closer into your approach.
    I have this lens, and I consider it to be my "secret weapon". I use it whenever it's even remotely appropriate.
    I do not shoot weddings ( though your own shots are simply gorgeous) but mostly industrial, aviation and architecture, but this lens allows me to get back a little bit, bring things into nice geometric proportion and blur the background into a creamy composition that really ennobles the subject and makes the viewer want to be there. I have more versatile lenses, but I have never had a lens I felt brought so much added value, just by using it.

    Since less than a week back this is in my arsenal of lenses, and it will have to be pried off from my fingers when I'm dead. Used, and loved, 135mm back in the analog days. Extremely versatile field of view, and 2.0 is f-ing awesome for both making the subject pop and to create creamy smooth backgrounds.

    Hi Vanessa, I have the 70-200mm 2.8L IS II and the 85mm 1.2L for portraits, depending if I’m in a confined space or if I’m outside (where I can go with around 200mm and 2.8). Would the 135mm 2.0L bring something special?
    Another question is that I have the 50mm 1.4G (for my Nikon DSLR), reportedly a better lens than the Canon 50mm 1.4, and was thinking if the EF 50mm 1.2L would give me something extra? What apertures do you use with it?
    Btw, a German wedding photograph Dirkson seems to prefer the 24mm 1.4L II, 50mm 1.2L and 135mm 2.0L setup.

      I find the difference between 2.8 and 2.0 pretty special, plus it's much much lighter to shoot with. I haven't done a comparison between the canon 50 1.4 and 1.2 so I couldn't tell you officially what the exact perks are...but personally I own the 50mm 1.2 :-)

I want it specifically for that 2.0 and the separation it will give. 135 flatters vehicles as much as people, and works a song for getting natural looking detail shots. @alexverbeke2228 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VanessaJoy you're right it's not exactly, the Nikon has a Defocus Control, a ring to change the bokeh apparence. It also appears that it might not be as sharp as the Canon, but it depends if you have a good copy, and the DC is sometimes hard to use. But they are all beaten by the Sigma 135 f/1.8 art.
      I'm still a little suprised when someone says that the 135 f/2L is the least talked about lens, I have seen so much reviews and cheers about it...and I'm a Nikon user! In fact, I've heard so much more people, Canon users obviously, talking about it and saying "there's no 135 in the Nikon line" as a reason to buy Canon. But I think it's just like the Nikon 105mm, people prefer to buy a 85 f/1.8 to have an extra 1/3 stop and spend less money.
      Patty, I think you might consider the 105mm f/2 DC, with the same defocus control, it's a little bit afforable (and lighter) and it seems easier to find a good copy, as long as you don't absolutely want a 135mm of course.

    Canon will make RF version of 135mm for sure. I predict that it will be F1.4 and it will cost over 3K.

    For over four decades, I find even 105 is too long, hence no 135 but 85 instead.

      @VanessaJoy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 85 is one of my ultimate favs

  • @BrunoChalifour
    @BrunoChalifour ปีที่แล้ว

    There are reasons why people do not use or talk about a 135. It is a cumbersome limited and limiting lens [it is NOT "small" and it definitely does not "fit anywhere"]. A 85 mm is more versatile, lighter, smaller. As for flare just spit or more appropriately breathe on any lens to add flare to what is a good lens. The flare propension of the Canon 135 mm is just the result of bad lens-coating, another reason to avoid it.PS: you do not "zoom" with a 135 mm prime lens ;o)

  • @dansaghin1
    @dansaghin1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 135 f2 is not really that awesome, the price is right though, the lack of stabilisation and the 135mm means you can't really use a low shutter speed so, the ideea that this lens is a low light beast is an over statement... the 85mm f1.4 is a way better choyce even if it's more expensive...

    • @VanessaJoy
      @VanessaJoy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The 135 and 85 provide a wildly different image and use factor. Not even a comparison.
