Kodak Ektachrome (E100) Portrait Shoot
มุมมอง 3.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I try out slide film (Kodak E100) for the first time on a portrait shoot with two beautiful models. Careful not to over expose this film, I got what I would call mixed results. Usually when I shoot negative film I’m happy enough with the scans I get back from the lab not to edited them. This time however I thought the first half of the roll was a little too dark and felt the need to brighten th...

Canon EOS R5 | Portrait Shoot With The EF 135mm F2 L USM
มุมมอง 20K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I pair the Legendary Canon EF135mm F/2 with the Canon EOS R5 for a portrait shoot with male model Michael JP. After hearing the Canon rumor that an RF update may be coming for this amazing prime lens I thought I'd make a video advocating the update. This lens came out in 1996! To illustrate how long ago that was I pair it with a camera from its time, the Canon Elan 7. Follow Us! Instagram: inst...

There are three settings on the lens: FULL, 0.5-infinity and 0.3m-0.5m, which I think are to help the camera with focusing. Do you use any of these or just leave it set to Full?
"I have a Canon RF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM lens, and I want to attach a ring flash. What is required if the flash is from another brand? Which option would be the most compatible to ensure it works properly with this lens and a Canon R series camera?"
Ring flashes rely on a wired connection to your camera's hotshoe so brand compatibility is a factor. Chose a flash kit the is specifically configured to work with Canon cameras. Something like the Nissin MF18 is compatible with Canon EOS R cameras according the compatibility section on their website.
@@MikeFilancPhotography 👍
That’s one hot model…
can you use a ttl flash on the film camera or its only manual?
It's manual only, the old Canonet has a single pin hotshoe which doesn't support TTL functionality.
I don't understand. Was the 50 mm 1.8 stm crop put on through an adapter?
Yes I used the Canon EOS EF-RF adapter. There is no crop. The EF 50mm F 1.8 is full frame lens.
Looks like the clown on Good Times.
Nice video, it would have received more views and got into TH-cam recommendations if it had been published earlier.
Thank you! Yes, I think you're probably right.
Your channel is criminally underrated! You do amazing work! :D
Thank you so much! Subscribe if you want to see more content.
I don't think you set your white balance correctly on the Elan 7, his jacket had a green tint.😀
Yes, so what you're noticing is the result of the Canon Elan 7 being a film camera and therefor it relies on the Film manufacture to set the white balance. The 'green tint' that you're seeing is the result of how Kodak Portra400 renders greens. Kodak Porter400 is a Daylight balanced film, meaning it has a chemical white balance optimized for 5600k. Thanks got watching!
This moment when photographer doesn’t deserve such a expressive model…
Er, 'Classy' 😂😂😂
Oh damn Mike you are beautiful 😮
🫣
I don't know if it's just me, but I think it's a bit over exposed, I'm not sure, maybe that's the look you're going for?
There is definitely some fidelity lost from the screen capturing and TH-cam’s compression algorithm. The highlights aren’t clipping in the original image.
I'm considering buying this lens, it's a good reference, thank you.
I'm glad it was helpful!
❤ Nice video.
Thanks for visiting
Nice camera

I used to do some serious deep space imaging up to 2015. There was a piece of software that we crucial to resolving and then aligning the stars. It had a very hefty price tag, and it was already 15 years old. I made a comment once that I was not prepared to pay that kind of money for a piece of software that had not been upgraded in over 15 years. Someone in the community replied with the question " does it do what you require of it ?", to which I replied yes it certainly does. He said, then what is the point of an ' upgrade '? I knew that I had been wrong in the first place. We have become addicted to hardware and software upgrades these days. In most cases they offer nothing worthwhile in the way of ' upgrade ' but they require each other to keep that self serving circle going. If this lens still produces the goods then why are we bothered and ask for an upgrade? Forgot to add BTW, very good shoot.
Hey thanks for stoping by and bringing up a very good point about gear acquisition syndrome (GAS). It's important to remind ourselves sometimes why we're taking photos in the first place. We choose photography for the art and not just to become gear consumers. Right?
yes
Would you recommend this lens over the 28-70mm or 24-70mm? for portrait photography or skincare. I have a canon rebel t7 body
I would not recommend either of these lenses for a Rebel t7. The crop censor in that camera is not going to pair well with full frame lenses. I would recommend buying a zoom lens design for your crop censor rebel. Something like a 16mm-55mm F/ 2.8. Sigma makes a good one.
When someone is talking about film photography, they are not talking about a crappy 35 mm film developed at Walgreens. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I got 5D Classic with 50STM and I trick the world every single day. Camera from 2005.
This video sold me on getting this 100mm over an 85mm for portraits. Great video and great pics!
Awesome! It's a brilliant lens. Thanks for watching!

Man that music was too much
Lovely images. No filters? Colour-corrected after scanning?
Thank you! I didn't use any filters. The lab that develops my film also handles the scanning, I highly recommend trying them. thedarkroom.com

As a big fan of Portra 400, I’m blown away by how close the film simulation comes.
I just purchased this lens, and I love it so far. I do wish they had a 35mm f1.8 with a similar pricetag.

Nice usage of the flash
Hello Master : Please help and give me some advice, The camera I am currently using is Canon EOS R10, The kit lens used with it is (RF-S18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM) My main subject matter is toy photography. The secondary shooting content is street photography or portrait photos. Now I want to buy new lenses, after watching your video, Want to compare between Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and RF85mm F2 Macro IS STM After making a choice, I would like to ask you to give me some advice on which lens is more suitable for me? Thank you.
Which lens did you end up deciding on?
@@MikeFilancPhotography RF35mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM😂😂😂
Portra 400 & Canonet the best!
Thanks for this video!
dude, why you stopped update
nice video bro.
She’s so pretty 🥺
TK ❤
Do you use a light meter? How do you get a feel for your lighting settings?
I used the Canon’s built in light meter. It’s really good! For the interior shoots I purposely overexposed by a quarter of a stop, Portra loves the extra light!
That little canon is awesome!
Sexy ladies
1. she could end me and just bury me in that desert if she wanted to, would be a wonderful way to die 2. film definitely wins. I want a Canonet, I already have a Demi and a few SLRs. Picking up film has kinda changed how I think about photography
Wow - the film shots are so much better. Waiting for my little Canonet now - can’t wait to try it!
Why didn’t you move the chair out the way when she was in the bath it looks like she had a chair growing out her head 😂
Does the QL17 need a battery to fire the flash or does it work without?
I had a fresh battery in my QL17 for this shoot. I haven't tested it without the battery but I believe it requires one in order to send an electric pulse to the hotshoe.
The only thing the battery powers is the metering mechanism so the flash will still work with no battery. These kind of flash mount are literally just 2 contacts that "short" to signal the flash to fire.
@@aaronlabarre501 thanks for sharing, that’s good to know!
@MikeFilancPhotography should be true of any mechanical vintage camera that has the center contact type hotshoe or PC socket but I only have hands on experience with Canons and Pentax. Also with this Canonet because it has a leaf shutter will flash sync any shutter speed but most cameras in my experience have a focal plane curtain shutter where you need to use the sync shutter speed, typically 1/60. I don't have experience with the x100v or really any digital camera with flash, can you use any shutter speed with flash on that or is the sync just 125?
@@aaronlabarre501 that’s all been true in my experience as well. Yes the X100V’s leaf shutter flash syncs at all speeds.
Does it work with the Canon R5C?
I haven't tested that combination but with the Canon EF - EOS R mount adapter you could mount this lens on an R5-C. Also consider purchasing or renting the RF version of the 135mm, it has a maximum aperture of F / 1.8 now and image stabilization.
Are you using the alien bees slave unites to a godox light?
Yes! Exactly right, you figured it out. As I remember the trigger that the studio provided wasn't working with my camera.
2023 still portra 400 the best film ever❤️
Kodachrome 64 for me but never got to shoot it and never will 😢
