I also have the 30NM SimRacingBay DD wheel. It feels awesome in all games but Dirt Rally. Even Assetto Corsa feels great after hours of fiddling with configuration files.
Great review Barry! The new Mige motors will be coming out with the 22Bit BISS-C Encoders which do 4.2 mil cpr resolution compared to the SinCos Encoders 2.1 mil cpr resolution. The only reason to try and hunt down any of the remaining SinCos Encoders is for the users that have the older versions of the Mige motor as it doesn't support the new 22Bit BISS-C Encoders. Anyone buying after a new OSW Mige setup will get the new 4.2 mil cpr resolution Encoders :)
Yes, but it is my understanding that current FW will support 21bit but not 22 bit yet. So, still 2.1 mil CPR. Won't be long before that changes I'm sure.
Great review as always, but I was a bit saddened to see that you didn't test drive the wheel in rfactor2. rf2 has, arguably, the best force feedback and tyre model simulation in the industry, so it would be nice to see how the osw wheel fared in that
Barry you can use bog standard Fanatec wheels with this kit. all you need is the base side adapter from sim racing machines. It’s a great solution maybe worth you reviewing in another video.
Always enjoy your reviews, Barry. It really adds to the appreciation for the engineering and ingenuity that go into our tools . . . I mean . . toys. I have the large Mige Simucube system with the 10,000 encoder, and have been very happy with the refinement that has come with every release of the Simucube firmware. In your FFB wheel reviews, have you considered incorporating Automobilista into the testing regimen alongside iRacing? I know it lacks some of the glitz of Assetto Corsa and PC2, but in my two decades of sim racing, I have found AMS to have the most convincing driving dynamics and richest FFB of any sim I've tried. It truly shows off the full range of subtlety to power of a FFB system. And for a DD wheel, it takes some minimal tweaking to the RealFeel settings to dial in a convincing and informative experience that is consistent among the huge variety of cars that come with and are available for AMS. For my money, a lap around Suzuka in AMS' Formula V10 is as good as it gets.
I will have to give Automobilista another go. Had a problem with the usb port limitation the game had at the time I tried it before. Don't know if Neils and the guys have added more usb port capability. I need a lot of usb ports for motion and such.
Barry, Just for info, the shaft and the collar assembly should be degreased really good before assembly because they are usually pretty slippery with oil. Also, the four cap bolts that are on the collar assembly when shipped are not used but there should have been four button head allen bolts that are used instead, they are shallower than the cap head allen bolts. The black spacer will then be flush.
Yes, I had to clean the shaft and collar assembly. I forgot to mention the 4 button head screws that can be substituted for the socket head cap bolts are included in the hardware package.
Hi, great review as always. Looking forward to your Fanatec DD reviews. The reason you don't like Assetto Corsa FFB may be related to your settings. I see you have some effects turned on and they are what we call canned effects. Fake basically. Kunos felt obligated to add them because people with FFB wheels were complaining about not having a lot of FFB so they added these extra effects. If you turn them off, you'll still get all those effects but real ones not generated or amped out of blue. You should give it a try I thought.
They are out of stock right now, but what is the difference in the kits? One is Biss-C, another just says OSW, then ARGON based OSW, then there is OSW CM - 110 case, and finally IoniproHC and or with Ionicube base.
That clamp was really close to the edge of the table. I was kinda expecting it to become loose. I don't know why he did not put the clamp deeper into the desk so you'd get more leverage out of it. Maybe the table has shelves that doesn't allow it to bite deeper.
I think the reconstruction filter in the simucube software is more responsible for the smoothness than the sincos encoder. try it in iracing and you will agree ;-)
Could be, I did have it set to 5 in iRacing, but also tried it at other settings. I want to try the new Biss-C once I can get my hands on one. Compare it to the SinCos and with the Filter at different levels and in the off state.
Sim Racing Garage Tero and Mika from GD say 5 is the optimized standard value for iRacing. In AC you could deactivate it. ACs FFB is very smooth out of the box. But nevermind, another awesome review Barry, keep'em coming!
I agree. When I upgraded to the new FW the recon. filter made it so smooth. Soon after the upgraded to a 3600 line SinCos encoder and it did make it better but not a huge difference. Still worth it if you have the resources.
A lot of the time with powder coating you use a steel wire to have it up on a rack like I do in a Massive oven (you can fit a car chassis in there) and if you don’t have the steel wire in or on properly the powder coating can come away and while in the baking process it can chip off easy, we Tend to shot blast it and redo the powder coating if this happens
Are the parts easily replaceable if they fail in the future? I know the mige motor can be, but what about the other electronics? Would you have to buy them from the same place or are they available anywhere?
I don't have any experience with Simtech's Simforce OSW system. Looks to be based, like others, on the tried and proven SimuCube/IONI system. Not enough details as far as if it is the HC IONI or not. And the power supply is not listed. If it were me, I would buy from Sim Racing Bay or Augury. With the Augury getting the nod because of the very nice looking controller box.
I was thinking the same thing but that’s a lot of weight to balance on a small area of the servo. The risk of it tipping over would be greater because that mounting plate it so heavy and long.
Why I can't resist to ask if you have a spare wheel after the intro? I'm very much fit with a spare belt or even gear one if not a DD's that catching dust there lol. Mmmh now I'm so sad because I'm poor :'(
It's a 10nm motor that does 20nm peak according to Mige, in other words, it can't do 20nm constantly but in sim racing you would never ever do that anyway. Kind of like speakers that can do 100w peak max but are 50w. 20nm short bursts are all you will need. I have this exact kit but with the smaller psu and never have it above 50% in game, 100% in software but 50 in game max.
Yes, this motor has more than enough burst torque I think. I can feel the difference between this Mige and the AKM52G when you crash or take a hard hit from something.
Actually, I only have the original Mige encoder it came with and not the upgraded one , and it's still really great, but I have nothing else direct drive to compare it too so i might be even more impressed if I got the upgraded encoder! I went from a Logitech g29 to this and was blown away.
Paul Banks, the encoder helps but I found that the new firmware was a big improvement over MMOS that was used before. The encoder provides an even smoother experience. I run the same servo with a different SinCos encoder; I used to have the standard 40K CPR encoder before.
I'm on 40K CPR (Simplicity SW20), the exact same motor as in this review except the encoder I guess. Haven't mounted it yet. How do I upgrade/where the encoder, is it expensive, is it worth it?
You are the only one I know who uses the Peaking and Notch Filter and from what I have seen so far you are using always the same values. Could you explain the purpose of these settings?
Hi Berry, I’m very interested in purchasing a Direct Drive Servo. I’ve watched a lot of your reviews and I believe I speak for every one when I say that I really appreciate what your doing for us Sim racers. I would love to buy a Bodner but can’t seem to justify that much money for a servo to my wife.. lol.. However if I could please be blessed with your guidance on configuring a Kollmorgan with a OSW setup I would be great full.. I’m not 100% sure where to start. After going to the Kollmorgan web page I feel like I’m reading a different language with all the specs, I realize I still need other components besides just the motor.. again I really hope you can help, thank you

was close to order a SW12C+ next month but instead ordered today the Sim Racing Bay big boy.. would be interested though to see how the simplicity compact series will work.
So it looks like mige has discontinued the sincos encoder, but will be offering an even better Biss-C encoder. Tho it sounds like it might require some modifications to work on earlier model small/large Mige servos. OSW development has moved at lightning speed this past year. But I think this will be the final stage, as you can't get much better than a biss encoder. Berry you have to try simcube with a akm53/54 servo fitted with a biss encoder and compare to it to the bodner.
I will be comparing the Biss-C to the SinCos once I can get the proper cable in. Would like to try the AKM's with the SimCube. Need to get the cables made though. So much I want to do, never enough time in the day it seems.
Would buy one instantly if there is not only a fanatec QR adapter but also a adapter to use the universal hub or wheels with included button box (just invested too much in Fanatec equipment). Tired of waiting for the Podium series...
The spacer looks like a problem to me - if you need it to clear the bolts (which you didn't of course because of your additional hub spacer, the long silver part), it needs to clear them completely, not leave a couple of mils proud.
You are right. That's why I showed it with the bolt heads a few mills proud of the spacers plane. If you want to direct mount you would have to add some washers or something to get it flushed up.
I should have mentioned also that Tomo does includes 4 pan head bolts in the bolts bag. These have a low enough profile that the spacer will be clear them. So no interference with mounting a flat plate to the spacer.
Have you tried a 10000 ppr encoder on a SimuCUBE before -or was it a older Argon? Are you sure the smoothness comes from the sincos encoder and not the simucube/firmware/settings?
No, this is a Small Mige. He said a Kollmorgen is smoother but the new encoder on the Mige is similar to it. The Bodnar is a Lenze Motor. Which is in between the Mige and Kollmorgen motors
I have been running the SimRacingBay kit for almost a year now and still watched your entire video. The kit is worth every cent! BTW, considering this kit? Check out my channel for a cheap solution to get magnetic paddle shifters going (3D printer and assembly required)
I did, twice. Asked for firmware links, anything written they would have to just set the device up, or just links to guides or forum posts. Not game setup, just device update&setup. Got a response back that the only line of setup assistance is through Skype which is cool. I'm tired when I get back home from work, and I love taking my time doing my hobbies experimenting, so I'm not comfortable with this. I did go over to SimRacingBay yesterday and found a whole Downloads section with manuals, firmware links, tools, so I think I'm good again. BUT if you have any recommendations I'd love to hear them!
When I'm testing for FFB cues and detail, I turn all motion off. That way I can concentrate on the task at hand. Not to say that I did that the whole time I was testing. I also wanted to feel how the FFB from the wheel complemented the motion systems cues. But that really isn't relevant to someone thinking of buying an OSW or other FFB wheel system. As most won't have a motion rig I think.
Sim Racing Garage - I see, that makes sense. I should have known it had something to do with applying your patented® scientific method to sim hardware testing and review process. Really appreciate your detailed reviews Sir!
hi SRG love the videos just wondering you you could do a vid on how to make an osw system as there are basically no tutorials which explain how to do it thanks
howdy youve got me thinking about a direct drive wheel. have you ever seen this cock pit. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JJB6DWY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. would it be stable enough for it?
I would not recommend it. Remember, even the small Mige weighs over 22lbs. And has a peak torque of 20NM. I think it would be a bit much for that single square tube they are using to support the wheel base.
hi sorry to bother you again. whats is your thoughts on a cockpit like www.amazon.com/dp/B01NGUDDO7/ref=sspa_dk_detail_7?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01NGUDDO7. if thats good enough i think ill just sell the one i have. thanks again for you time and knowledge
It keeps amazing me that people still make kits with those cumbersome adapters. 5$ piece of aluminium and bicycle tube lock for another 2$ does quick lock function and 0 possibility of slippage. It literally takes 5 seconds to put it on. All this excessive cost and mass here with tons of time to install - for what? Somebody should tell them about it...
@@kochj0713 Ir you have ever adjusted the seat on your bike you have to open a clamp to move it up and down that same partis used in these qquick releases. They can go up to to 100 bucks for a couple of pieces of mteal.
I don't know any other reviewing channel in the Milky Way better than this one.
Around Alpha Centauri there's a nice one as well, if you get close. Shipping is a bit costly.
Or longer xD Its good allright but sometimes, just sometimes I get annoyed by how much time he spends on a single (very simple and obvious) detail.
I think this is the best reviews. I looked at it for racing games. Top of the best.
I just got the same kit a couple weeks ago, minus the acrylic case. I got the CM110 case instead. Absolutely love it!
same here, a couple of months now at I love it
what wheel are you running on it? im planning on getting this kit too!
Fanatec BMW GT2 and using this adapter:www.simracingmachines.com/WebShop/custom-made-fanatec-conversion-kit
OMP trecento and asher racing button plate
Got exactly that second hand a week ago, still waiting for the button box. What a difference between this and my old g27.
As always Barry, top notch review. No hatchet jobs here. ;O)
Just the wheel what I've been looking into. Our simracing Dad did it again.
Using this with 10000CPR encoder for over a year, I really love it especially with new firmmware
Awesome review as always :)
A little tip, in Assetto Corsa, set the brake gamma to the lowest setting (linear) when using loadcell brake :)
I'll give it a try, thanks.
What is the lowest? 0.1?
1.00
Ahh.. I see. Brake gamma. I read FFB gamma. Because of DD wheel review.
I will try that. Thank you.
It felt very nice. =)
Very very good review again! Only one advice i would like to see 4k videos in future on your channel. Thank you!
Bought a SimRacingBay 30NM last week. Feels awesome in all games except Assetto. Tomo ships superfast and provides great support.
I also have the 30NM SimRacingBay DD wheel. It feels awesome in all games but Dirt Rally.
Even Assetto Corsa feels great after hours of fiddling with configuration files.
Dennis Karlsson - could you share these settings?
Just ordered one of these bad boys (with CM case) along with a fanatec formula rim!!! Sim Racing Bay is the best!!!
salut Homed merci pour tout ce que tu fais pour la communauté
Wow!Kudos to the guy who loaned to you this,I would die if I would need to wait any more than I need :)
Great review Barry! The new Mige motors will be coming out with the 22Bit BISS-C Encoders which do 4.2 mil cpr resolution compared to the SinCos Encoders 2.1 mil cpr resolution. Yep. Just got it from Sim Racing Machines.
Nice review , thx for it.
Can't decide , get it now , or wait till some tested the fanatec direct drives
There's another set of bolds for the adapter that will not stick out like that, so you can safely install your button box and wheel.
Always enjoy your reviews, Barry. It really adds to the appreciation for the engineering and ingenuity that go into our tools . . . I mean . . toys. Hi, great review as always. Looking forward to your Fanatec DD reviews.

Awesome review as always
Thick shafts are great!
Best review , as always :)

Are the parts easily replaceable if they fail in the future? I know the mige motor can be, but what about the other electronics? Would you have to buy them from the same place or are they available anywhere?
The Reassembler - Simracing edition!
I gotta say I prefer James May, but Barry is pretty great too. :)
Great videos. May you help me please? I am in doubt to get a dd osw system from these two brands: Simtech racing or Simbay? Please advise which brand
Nice review, but you forget to test it with rFactor.... I think it's mandatory for test any wheel base. But nice review mate
Perfect timing, I plan on purchasing my first DD kit in the coming weeks. If I have any questions, would it be alright if I shoot you an e-mail?
Sure, info@simracinggarage.com
Should of flip the motor up on it encoder by the corner of the table. Then put motor mount on top of motor would of been safer. Just trying to help.
Yes, another way to do it.
I was thinking the same thing but that’s a lot of weight to balance on a small area of the servo. The risk of it tipping over would be greater because that mounting plate it so heavy and long.

Nice review
Can you review the new fanatec direct drive base ?
You are the only one I know who uses the Peaking and Notch Filter and from what I have seen so far you are using always the same values. Could you explain the purpose of these settings?
If this was to get damaged what would be the the most likely component to get damaged?
How would you mount an ordinary car steering wheel onto it? I'm not too familiar with how the quick release system works.
Whenever I think of OSW, GamerMuscle springs into mind
Hi Berry, I’m very interested in purchasing a Direct Drive Servo. Sim Racing Garage Thank you very much.. i hope they can help me..
I second that!
No software part? What does it use to calibrate the wheel as well as setup all the different parameters outside the game?
Thanks for the quality reviews,as usual. Any chance you could test the simplicity lower power motors? sim-pli.city/collections/all
If I get my hands on one, I would love to see how they compare to the other DD offerings out there.
was close to order a SW12C+ next month but instead ordered today the Sim Racing Bay big boy.. would be interested though to see how the simplicity compact series will work.
As did I ! Your review Barry gave me the confidence to spend up.. Cheers
So it looks like mige has discontinued the sincos encoder, but will be offering an even better Biss-C encoder.
Sim Racing Garage Looking forward to see that! Thanks for all the amazing reviews lately!
The big question Barry. This (I.e, the latest version with Biss-C) or Bodnar Simsteering 2? Would be really keen to get your opinion
Very close between the two. I still prefer the Kollmorgen to the Mige. But that's just me.
Would buy one instantly if there is not only a fanatec QR adapter but also a adapter to use the universal hub or wheels with included button box (just invested too much in Fanatec equipment). Tired of waiting for the Podium series...
You can get a base side conversion kit that will let you use most of not all of the Fanatec equipment. Sim racing machines offers it.
www.simracingmachines.com/WebShop/custom-made-fanatec-conversion-kit
Yeah with tomos fanatic quick release and the unit posted above you'd be all set
I really like your reviews Barry, I notice you do your reviews in front of triple screen (the ones I've watched) have you ever tried or recommend VR?
Yes, I have used the CV1 on many occasions. The tech just isn't there yet for me to give up my triples. Some day....
just a quick question. Can I put hydraulic pedals on a G29?
I had the same problem with the ring of the wheel clamp. Nevertheless it works fine without.
Yes, the way the clamp works, I think the ring is there to prevent over expansion of the outside collar. At least that's what it looks like.
Sim Racing Garage Thanks, no issue then.
Is there any direct drive wheel that I could use mounted to the next level racing wheel stand?
I'm not familiar with that wheel stand. Maybe someone else could chime in.
Have you tried a 10000 ppr encoder on a SimuCUBE before -or was it a older Argon? Are you sure the smoothness comes from the sincos encoder and not the simucube/firmware/settings?
do u have a good audi r8 setting for the simcube? thanks
wait, you said at the end thats its a Kollmorgan motor. Im confused now. 1:03:47 so this is a MIGE Kollmorgan? So what type of motor is the Bodner?
No, this is a Small Mige. He said a Kollmorgen is smoother but the new encoder on the Mige is similar to it. The Bodnar is a Lenze Motor. Which is in between the Mige and Kollmorgen motors
I have been running the SimRacingBay kit for almost a year now and still watched your entire video. The kit is worth every cent!
BTW, considering this kit? Check out my channel for a cheap solution to get magnetic paddle shifters going (3D printer and assembly required)
Any tutorial for setting it up in regards to software (Granite, firmware etc)? I'm on a sim-plicity SW20 currently going nowhere.
Why don't you just contact Sim-Plicity and set up a configuration session?
I did, twice. Asked for firmware links, anything written they would have to just set the device up, or just links to guides or forum posts. Not game setup, just device update&setup. which would be better? sw20 from simplicity or simcube from simracingbay?
Do you Think that a NLR F-GT Can handle this?
I don't think so - it looks way too flimsy.
Hi Berry, Great in-depth review and compassion to your personal setup. I was wondering why you weren't using your D-Box 4400i Motion Simulator?
When I'm testing for FFB cues and detail, I turn all motion off. That way I can concentrate on the task at hand. Not to say that I did that the whole time I was testing. I also wanted to feel how the FFB from the wheel complemented the motion systems cues. But that really isn't relevant to someone thinking of buying an OSW or other FFB wheel system. As most won't have a motion rig I think.
Sim Racing Garage - I see, that makes sense. I should have known it had something to do with applying your patented® scientific method to sim hardware testing and review process. Really appreciate your detailed reviews Sir!
How are these motors called actually?
Assetto Corsa is way to slippery
Wish I had a big shaft...🙁
What is the adapter on the base
I am using the Q1R QR system mounted to the Mige servo motor hub that comes with the kit.
Do you do voice over work?
Yes.
Fov?
Jesus Christ this stuff is so complicated. I wish I had the $$$ to get me something like this.
hi SRG love the videos
just wondering you you could do a vid on how to make an osw system as there are basically no tutorials which explain how to do it
thanks
That encoder costs almost like the mige itself

Hello can you tell me where can i buy a spacer for my osw like the one you use
Available in a 2" and 4" version: www.ebay.com/itm/4-Steering-Wheel-Spacer-Polished-Aluminum-for-MOMO-NARDI-ISOTTA-SPARCO-OMP/111015588260
howdy
youve got me thinking about a direct drive wheel. have you ever seen this cock pit.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JJB6DWY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
would it be stable enough for it?
I would not recommend it. Remember, even the small Mige weighs over 22lbs. And has a peak torque of 20NM. I think it would be a bit much for that single square tube they are using to support the wheel base.
thank you for taking the time to reply.
thats what i kinda thought.
ill start thinking how to do some beefen up
thanks again
hi
sorry to bother you again.
whats is your thoughts on a cockpit like
www.amazon.com/dp/B01NGUDDO7/ref=sspa_dk_detail_7?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01NGUDDO7.
if thats good enough i think ill just sell the one i have.
thanks again for you time and knowledge
It keeps amazing me that people still make kits with those cumbersome adapters. 5$ piece of aluminium and bicycle tube lock for another 2$ does quick lock function and 0 possibility of slippage. It literally takes 5 seconds to put it on.
All this excessive cost and mass here with tons of time to install - for what? Somebody should tell them about it...
bicycle Tube lock?? Not sure what that is.
@@kochj0713 I think he is describing a seat post clamp.
@@kochj0713 Ir you have ever adjusted the seat on your bike you have to open a clamp to move it up and down that same partis used in these qquick releases. They can go up to to 100 bucks for a couple of pieces of mteal.
