Got 900 hours in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. That's just main game and 2 of the DLC. Haven't even done the other 4 DLC, still haven't done 5 of the mythic paths. Worth every penny in a time-to-dollar value perspective.
I love CRPGs, been playing them since I was a kid, and we really have been eating good since the CRPG renaissance spearheaded by Pillars of Eternity and Divinity: OS. However, there are only 3 CRPGs that I enjoyed so much that I replayed more than twice: Baldurs Gate 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Pathfinder: WotR. These games confortably occupy my top tier, and considering how many I've played, this is no small feat. Owlcat deserves all the praise they have received and more.
Easily my favorite studio. To the extent that I am not a 40K fan, and I still suppoted Rogue Trader from Alpha, because it was theirs. And I love RT as well.
I 110% agree with you!!! Pathfinder WotR is my all-time favorite CRPG! I have played it over ten times with different builds! I will play it again later next year! I am also playing Warhammer 40K! I have a huge gaming list I am also going through!
I'm in the middle of my 9th BG3 playthrough but I just got this on the Steam sale (protip: you can buy the base game and both season passes, it's cheaper than the GOTY bundle and you'll only miss the soundtrack/small cosmetic pack). I'm no stranger to complex games so I look forward to getting into this.
Increadible game , story 10/10,. not even BG3 has this good story as Pathfinder 2, depth of classes, combinations and spells no other game does it as deep as Pathfinder. My go to are Turn Based games, but even without that kind of gameplay, this is one of the best CRPGs ive played in my life.
Far better companions too, imo. Throughout a lot of BG3, I had the thought "I don't think I'd be friends with any of these people if we weren't linked by these parasites". WotR had far more companions that I think I'd be friends with. Even two of the "Evil" ones (Daeran and Regill).
I have not played too far into this game, but already I have a good impression of it. I prefer turn-based just as a whole. I love how the combat has a pure turn-based mode. It is like the devs knew there was a RT w/ pause vs Turn-based war and actually found a way to satisfy both sides.
I tried the game thanks to this video, I'm a few hours in and I can see what you mean. Pathfinder has so much depth in making classes compared to DnD so I can see myself putting just as much time into this game as I have with BG3 , which as of today is around 1,000 hours.
Absolutely agree about the isometric style. I put off isometric games for years because I assumed I'd hate them. Boy, was I wrong. I played DOS2 after I kept hearing great things about it and was hooked. I'm so glad I finally gave them a chance, same with turn-based combat. It never hurts to step outside our comfort zones to try new games. At worst, we realize we're not interested, but at best, we can discover a whole new style or genre of games to enjoy.
I’ve never been into the genre, but recently I played Space Marine 2 and eventually wanted to get more into the lore of 40K, so I got Rogue Trader and for the first time ever I clicked with a CRPG, perfect timing that Pathfinder WOTR GOTY edition released, I’ve just started my first play through and it’s great knowing that I already understand most systems Owl Cat utilizes. I always enjoy build variety, squad composition, and choice and consequences; so I’m sure I’ll be playing this game for years
Rogue Trader is amazing been playing it, still on act one though, wish WR was purely turn base though, although I have only played the introductory act.
Well said. I haven't played P:WotR in about 18months to 2 years since about 6 months of launch. I just purchased all of the DLC at once. Killed my previous save spots and make a striaht human fighter that I'll multiclass into a rogue here next level. (MAYBE down the line, I might sprink in some Wizard) I really liked my F/M/T classes back in my D&D table top days in 80's & 90's. Anyway, I know that was wordy. Have a good weekend. All the best.

Pathfinder(both Kingmaker and Wotr) are one of my favorite of all time. I did not finish Baldur's Gate 3 doubt i will do that. Wrath is the best DnD expirience I have ever had.
After finishing the game once I crave to do an evil playthrough! I love this game so much! The only thing that stops me is that it is so time-consuming for me. I can spend hours leveling up 😅. But I hope I'll do it eventually.

Imagine if Dragon Age: Origins and Baldur's Gate (I/II) had a love child and the chaos gods from Warhammer 40,000 corrupted the offspring. The result would be Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and it's glorious. Reminds me of when you find a good book and can't wait to find out what happens next!

I really liked Warth of the Righteous. Excellent game! I have to say however, that I prefered Kingmaker (something about the journey from nobody to king of a magical kingdom...). I am very sad though that Owlcats are not making Pathfinder games anymore! I absolutely loved the setting and the system. Warhammer30k (or any sci-fi setting) doesn't hit the same way for me. So while I'm still intrigued to see what they will create next, I'm still hoping that they would keep on working with Paizo in the future.
It's on the list, but what really hit me with the first one was how much more I preferred the core systems of PoE, especially 2. But I don't need high praise for a RTwP for a cRPG, what I do need is time.
Great video. I agree with Owlcat being preferable to Larian, but just because in PoE2 the characters felt a lot like DM's characters and pulled away the pacing of the game from the player.
This game also has the most diverse (as in truly different to each other) and interesting set of companions compared to most other rpgs out there. Some of their backstories will truly shock you, and some of the companion banter will genuinely make you laugh. Pathfinder games are some of the hardest games to really get good at. Unless you have experience with DnD 3.5 edition. Knowing DnD 2nd and 5e edition from the BG games helps, but it'll still take time to master. Definitely worth it in the end, though.
@Mike-r4h Thanks for the response. Would you happen to know of a good resource for the game, akind to what a phb would be? To learn about the larger number of classes, that there seems to be in the game from an image of the character creation screen.
My experience with CRPGS is DA origins and Pillars of Eternity and BG3 on easy mode lol, would this be a game you recommend to someone who’s very beginner/mid? I read you can switch from tactical to real time in this game. Just want a game where you can do some solid role playing and such
looks interesting I play Kingdom Come Deliverance currently (5.99.- on GOG, Royal Edition /w all DLC) one of the best Open World RPGs ever, imo. KCD II is on preorder now, release 11th Feb next year

And I don't think you can compare Larian with Owlcat as the only similarity is isometric-but they are really very different approaches to the CRPG
Just need to finish Pathfinder Kingmaker first. Definetly on the bucket list. I somewhat wish Owlcat not get popular too soon. Contemporary corporations seem to force requirements, messages and agenda for creators.
I downloaded WotR the other day, as I want to give it a try now I have a new laptop. As a CRPG fan as well, I think this will keep me occupied for some time :)
Thanks for mentioning them. These guys should work on porting some of thier games to switch too. The 'isometric viewpoint rpg' feels like it is a dead genre now unless it's an indie game made to appeal to retro gamers. You won't see this game mentioned much in game awards hehe Maybe one day Electronic Arts buys them and kills them? (hostile takeover to prevent anyone from buying the game over Dragon Age ones lol) You should do some noob guides for these games to help ease new players to this series.
Great video, man! Glad WotR is still getting the attention it deserves. Just a quick tip, btw: you can highlight everyone with Ctrl+A, similar to selecting everything in a file.
I played Kingmaker in turnbased mode and I enjoyed it despite the flaws. I tried WotR on Realtime with Pause and didn't like it. to the point I abandoned the game halfway through. I know I can switch between the two modes but I really wanted to play it with pause. I will go back after this update and play on turnbased to see how it goes. But I absolutely love the classes, the mythic paths and the whole PF system, which is way better imo to DnD 5e.
@@spellandshield Yeah I put it on automode. I don't like the time progression system because you go allover the map for quests and time passes and you get ambushed and it just feels like you have to rush everything. PoE is still my top favorite crpg. I just love everything about it.
while i enjoy tinkering with builds, my focus is on narrative and discovering interesting lore, setting, characters. How is the writing quality of this game compared to like dao or bg?
Story writing and pacing is great, possibly better and definitely more epic than bg3. Specific dialogue writing, not really. It has a lot of the classic cRPG dialogue tropes, like a full on exposition line of questions the moment you recruit a companion, and picking dialogue choices in a random order does not affect reactivity, which breaks immersion. But it's still great for a cRPG.
I actually love Kingmaker more than WOTR, it scratched a very specific itch I had. It both has a preference for chaotic good characters, the animal-plant-fey aspect, and an avatar type elemental bender character, who happens to be a tiefling. The bosses, the party, all amazing (exept Linzi) and to have an all out big fight at the end with all of your allies and enemies is just phenomenal. Sadly Wrath didn't have that.
I know exactly what you mean...I don't know why but kingmaker really got me, I love wotr but kingmaker just had some feeling I can't define. I listen to the soundtrack regularly, I love it so much
@@lehelkiss3919 Oh, no, not really. Very different experience. BG1 was a classic adventure story, a straight up heroes' journey; PS:T was this eerie philosophical journey.
Love Kingmaker as well. Jank and all. I have more hours in it than any game in the last 10yrs. Many of those as a de facto bug tester pre 1.1. But still, don't care. Loved it.
Haven’t played it cause I need to find the time I know it’s a good ass game. I need to play it next year. There a gaggle of RPG AND CRPG I trying to play next year
When you put out that video ranking the best crpgs of the last decade and pathfinder wotr came out as number one, I was skeptical. I played it a little before but didn't go very far. I decided to try it one more time and it went on to be one of the few games I actually saw through to the end. The soundtrack is one of my favorites, too.
Couldnt love this game any more and I cant wait for what they do next, I still have yet to play Rogue Trader since Warhammer universe is not something I dabble in but when they will make another Pathfinder I will be there. And we gotta give them mad props for the amount of support and content they put into WotR, it was already ginormous when it came out but now it is probably the most expansive rpg I have played, even beyond the likes of Persona 5, Witcher 3 or Baldurs Gate 3, there is easily hundreds of hours on offer here and the replay value is immense, like I said, couldnt love this game more and I cant recomend it enough. Completely agreed on Larian games, I played most of their games, even the older ones like Divine Divinity, Dragon Commander and such and obviously Original Sin 2 and BG3 are absolutely stellar, they keep moving the goalpost for all other studios when it comes to rpgs, but with both the Original Sin series and their BG3, there is simply something about the structure and how they approach their story, quest and world design that really makes me uncomfortable when playing it, I think it is the amount of content you are expected to miss out on and its simply very hard to get the most out of the game, or for lack of better term, navigating it on a structural level. When I finished WotR for the first time, I already had a rough idea of where the points of difference for other routes and runs will be, I didnt know what to expect but I knew where to look to not miss out on anything, WotR and Kingmaker, despite being incredibly huge and long, are a lot more palatable and easily "consumed" the way I prefer.
So im relatively new to CRPGs. Ive played the original baldurs gate games and thats it. Im of limited time nowadays. Where do I start with this? Kingmaker or Wrath of the righteous? Or do I give the pillars of eternity games a go?
This game is on the to-do list after BG3. The first pathfinder game was kind of broken, had a lot of bugs and I did have to play with the no fail version for the kingdom because holy shit was there a lot of things happening. Is this game as broken as that? I enjoyed both Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny.
Owlcat is great, but it takes years for all their additional content for a game to come out. I'm glad I finished my first playthrough of WOTR a few months ago, but I'm not replaying Rogue Trader until all the DLC and updates are finished (So about in 5 years)
Havent played since my azata playthrough before the first dlc. my collectors edition finally arrived, so maybe ill give it another go with all dlc next year. western rpgs just no longer have a hook for me like certain jrpgs
BG3 has much more ways to interact with the game. WoTR has only dialogue options and combat. Few spells are useful outside combat but only to raise up some number and increase your odds in dice rolls. Now you look at Divinity Origin Sins games and BG3. Even Solasta has a more interesting gameplay.
@@spellandshield partly due to issues they had getting out their collectors editions and how that was handled. I also find Larians games more immersive which is something I value. I also think Larians games are pushing the envelope. That’s not Owlcats fault, I could see Owlcat doing more as they grow. To me Owlcat is a bit like earlier Larian. That’s just how I feel about it. Bottom line I have just enjoyed Larians games more lately.
@@spellandshield In my opinion, Larian found a formula that converses with today's public. If we analyze BG3 deeply, we'll notice the underlying railroad and its lore issues, but they're part of the feeling Larian tried to propose. I don't see BG3 as an amazing cRPG as we know them, but it's one of the best games ever made for sure, because it delivered something WoTR and the other cRPGs couldn't (even though it's not something the regular players asked for). For example, regarding the other comment about immersion: I'm sure you're aware one can feel infinitely more immersed in WoTR than in BG3, but that requires an insane dedication to reading everything and paying attention to every detail (hell, today I just found something out in WoTR and I have over 4k hours). Most people nowadays don't have time or willingness to do that; it's a problem in our society, not an individual thing. That's why I say Larian did great. They managed to read the timing quite superbly. With that said, I still stand with WoTR in terms of sheer experience; it's my favorite game of all time and I doubt even Owlcat will make anything better (in my very personal opinion).

I'm in the same boat. Currently just started Act 5, and so far have been loving it despite some questionable design decisions.
1:50 What?! You move your guys into range in real time then switch to turn-based?! Ah HELL NO, I gotta play RIGHT NOW!!
Bubblebuffs was broken in this latest patch and I refuse to go back to manually buffing 10+ buffs for each character. I refuse
It worked when i checked it yesterday.
I downloaded WotR the other day, as I want to give it a try now I have a new laptop. As a CRPG fan as well, I think this will keep me occupied for some time :)
A very long time!
1,5 hour later... definately more tabletop experience than bg3. Well, it started snowing today, so I know what I'll be doing this winter ^^
I want pathfinder 3
So do many of us!
There is some crpg set in a world of sword and sorcery?
Thanks for mentioning them. These guys should work on porting some of thier games to switch too. The 'isometric viewpoint rpg' feels like it is a dead genre now unless it's an indie game made to appeal to retro gamers. You won't see this game mentioned much in game awards hehe Maybe one day Electronic Arts buys them and kills them? (hostile takeover to prevent anyone from buying the game over Dragon Age ones lol) You should do some noob guides for these games to help ease new players to this series.
if only i had the patience and smarts to really get into cRPGs
Love wotr already put a ton of hours into it and rouge trader
It's obviously not perfect and in my case I hate Crusade Management for example.
@@spellandshield in your opinion is the Crusade Management more enjoyable than Kingmaker's kingdom management system?
@@spellandshield Yeah I put it on automode. I don't like the time progression system because you go allover the map for quests and time passes and you get ambushed and it just feels like you have to rush everything. PoE is still my top favorite crpg. I just love everything about it.
Crusade automode will lock you out of some powerful items and the ability to get a very specific ending. Other than that, there's no difference.
The true Dragon Age has arrived!
I'm an old school Temple of Elemental Evil fan. Will I enjoy this?
Yes!
Is there a good level of companion interaction like bg3 or dragon age?(the good ones not the new one lol)
I would say so yes, the resting banter is great.
while i enjoy tinkering with builds, my focus is on narrative and discovering interesting lore, setting, characters. How is the writing quality of this game compared to like dao or bg?
The writing is in parts pretty good and I think better than BG3...probably not par with DAO though.
@@spellandshield thx, if its inbetween dao and bg3 , sounds good to me :)
But it's still great for a cRPG.
the writing is mostly fantastic and the amount of big choices you can make is just mind blowing
I listen to the soundtrack regularly, I love it so much
Kingmaker felt like playing Baldurs Gate 1 again, for the first time.
@@smartalec2001 Is that like playing Planescape Torment for the first time? 🤣😅(never played BG1)
Loved it.
I've been trying to play this game for sooo long. should I buy it now that it's on sale on steam or should I wait until the autumn sale?
Haven’t played it cause I need to find the time I know it’s a good ass game. I need to play it next year. There a gaggle of RPG AND CRPG I trying to play next year
When you put out that video ranking the best crpgs of the last decade and pathfinder wotr came out as number one, I was skeptical. I played it a little before but didn't go very far. I decided to try it one more time and it went on to be one of the few games I actually saw through to the end. The soundtrack is one of my favorites, too.
Indeed!
True game of the year
Couldnt love this game any more and I cant wait for what they do next, I still have yet to play Rogue Trader since Warhammer universe is not something I dabble in but when they will make another Pathfinder I will be there.
How does it run on consoles now? I was waiting until it's fixed on consoles
So im relatively new to CRPGs. Ive played the original baldurs gate games and thats it. Im of limited time nowadays. Where do I start with this? Kingmaker or Wrath of the righteous? Or do I give the pillars of eternity games a go?
pillars of eternity is boring, go for bg3 and pathfinder
I could consider playing it again if the mod for skipping puzzles works
There IS a mod for that!
Current my play time with this is 512 and it seems times to add it at least 200 hours more
Wish there was more portraits for important NPC characters since it was woefully lacking.
i just wish they made the neon green cursors more elegant than this, it looks so weird
I will grow old before I can finish my playthrough.
Owlcat 🤝 Pathfinder
Best CRPG ever. I hope Owlcat never loses ots way.
I think I might play this 😂
LOL!
Wrath of the righteous is a masterpiece. I didn’t like rogue trader at all in comparison though
Should i play Kingmaker before this?
Not necessary but you can if you want to.
Wait so do you recommend this game or not?
i love BG3 but im just not a fan of 5th edition, i feel like you cant make different builds on it.
I like Owlcat but still are a distant 2nd to Larian. But thankful to have them both. I wish they would license the Pillars license for a true PoE3.
I don't understand when people say they are a distant 2nd? Why do you say that?
