also OMAN AIR 236 wanted to know what is "DEEPAVALI" as it was his first time , and ATC CHENNAI didnt even tell him what is deepavali , rather saying come celebrate!!
if a MUSLIM celebrates HINDU religion tradition or rituals he is Leaving ISLAM , he will be a KAFIR , as he wiill be doing SHIRK , which is the only thing that made MUSLIM a MUSLIM.
so , ATC CHENNAI either you have LOW knowledge on ENGLISH or you do that Intentionally
because there is no way that you didnt hear what he was asking for , AS you are DOING ATC JOB , " couldnt hear " is not a word that in ATC DICTIONARY !
The stress level for an ATC is to the next level...he is like the pilot on the tower.
A little laugh is always welcomed.
In a single sitting we sit for 2 hours and then take a break and repeat it.

Plus the atc has to look after other traffic so no time for conversations

It's difficult situation to work on carnivals and festivals where other people celebrate and enjoy every day. Thanks to these "Guardians of the Sky" for keeping sky safe. They made flight crew as their family to share their fewlings and joys and emotions with them. Very sweet people
I am an atc aspirant and really loved the conversation. Some people told me that working as an ATC is a quite stressfull job but hear i came to know that if you love and enjoy your job then no job in the world is stressfull.
Being an Atc , I can vouch for the stress part. But,it is indeed one of the most thrilling jobs on earth
ATC is stressful..such lighter moments are very rare..but it's a good job
It's all up to you how you handle the work and it's stressful job but it also depends on you how you gone manage that.
Any job, however stressful, becomes routine after week's exposure. In ATC, you keep slides for each flight, make a real time replica on your table, mind and in Radar screen simultaneously, giving no room for error. As a human being, give direct routing as far as possible, don't show your ego.

To the people who are denigrating the controller on his English language proficiency just because he didn't explain what Diwali was 😂 He most probably was thinking about something significant or monitoring some relevant traffic at the moment. We ATCOs over years of training develop ability to filter out unnecessary parts and concentrate only on the most important part of a conversation. Those who have never felt how it's to be an ATCO and sit on live channel will find it difficult to understand but that's how it is. Yeah he could have said in one word it's a "festival" but his long trained mind must have thought that maybe calculating the descent/climb or direct for some flight was more important. So chill guys, we are more than proficient in English language and the satisfied pilots from all over the world flying with us are testimonials to it.
It's hard to find such jolly controller on channel and pilots appreciate it too. Over the years of rigorous shift duties, I don't even greet the pilots, just give them what they want/need and end the shift and go home, even though I am quite young😅.
Hope I explained it well to people who genuinely wanted to know, for others I will still enjoy my rating. 😜

Diwali means mispronounciation of Deepavali by Mughals
So, ofcourse he didn't wana offend a sweet Oman guy.
Deepa means light. Avali means row.
So, deepavali means a row of earthen lamps.
That's That's day our dead that came in PITRAPAKSH go back. So, we light long sticks & show light to the sky.
We also light earthen lamps (deepaw) everywhere..
It's a happy festival.
What's sad is that Oman Air didn't get the meaning and flew back ..

The ATC voice all of you can hear... He's a very jolly senior radar controller nearing his retirement but still a delight to work with. He was my senior when I used to work at Chennai Area Control Centre.
09R is one of the Runways at Hyderabad for anyone who's saying Chennai doesn't have a runway 09 L or R, and that's true. Chennai Area Controllers have sectors divided like Hyderabad, Mangalore, Bangalore, Chennai and Trivandrum... But all of them identify themselves as Chennai Area Control on radio contact. If you ask any Indian pilots who regularly fly that sector, many of them know him by name as they'd mostly hear him on enroute frequencies for the Upper Hyderabad Airspace (this recording too is from that unit), almost always having a good conversation with him. Peak traffic hours! No problem!
Just a correction..when chennai hands over UML, they are identified by mangalore radar not chennai 😁
Had the privilege of speaking to him when i was at VOTXZT(2007 to2012),(not a controller)
Used to operate in that sector...... always wonderful to hear him on RT..... Amazing professinalism and enthusiasm

While the ATC controller is very jovial and cheerful, it is somewhat alarming that he was not able to understand Oman Airway's pilot asking about Diwali. He kept wishing Happy Diwali irrelevantly ... Imagine someone asking things about the flight path and he responds something else ?
