Not so fun fact: Jorge once confirmed that the souls of Ody's men and his mother are only speaking their last thoughts. His crew died cursing him for endangering them, Polites was crushed to death, and yet he still believed to his core that you should greet the world with open arms. And of course, Anticlea (Ody's Mom) died longing to see her son one last time. Is this the appropriate time to mention Anticlea is voiced by Jorge's actual mother? Apparently she had to do so many takes of her performance because this was the first time she has really thought about Jay outliving her.
Jorge actually released an alternate version of Monster, and Gigi made an animatic of it. I highly recommend listening to it. It’s a bit shorter than the official version, but still good.
@lalberto987 it gets better. She apparently had to re record this multiple times because she kept crying because it made her think that one day she will leave him.
Here’s a sad fact about everyone that died in the Odyssey are stuck on the wrong side of the River Styx because they never received the proper funeral rights
The other thing to notice in Monster is Penelope removing Polites' headband from Ody's head now he's decided to be ruthless rather than open as Polites had guided him
These three might not be the most musically intense songs but hot damn are they the most emotionally intense. Get ready for the next saga though cause that might just be the best of both worlds
The shadowy figure is not mirroring Athena. IF you remember back to Gigi's Just a Man, when Ody looks in the mirror and asks "When does a man become a monster?" it is the shadowy figure we see reflected back. That is his monster, an that is who he embraces at the end of Monster.
Agreed, though I think the resemblance to Gigi's depiction of Athena isn't coincidental. The monster is who Athena tried to raise Odysseus to become, after all, and she rejected him when he refused and embraced Polites's philosophy of mercy. I have to wonder if in the final saga, we will see Athena realizing what she's created in Odysseus, especially in contrast to how she's mentoring Telemachus now.
@@notyourfathersdm I see what you are suggesting. Except that Athena was right in the end. If Ody had not shown mercy, he would have avoided the deaths of his entire crew. Poseidon never would have known who killed the cyclops and never would have conjured the storm in the first place. They would have reached home after the cyclops saga. I think Athena's regret comes from abandoning Ody instead of continuing to try and make him see that open arms just get people killed.
It's really amazing how these three songs could impact all of Odysseus's future decisions... The first song plays on his guilt and grief, the second plays on his anxiety for the future and longing to return home, and the third played on his internal struggle on morality which builds him to become something he didn't plan on and leave his humanity behind just to get back home.
This is the most important saga in the entire musical, and there is so much to read into for each song. How each song breaks Odysseus down more and more, until he realizes that in order to make it back home he needs to become a monster worse than any he or his men will encounter. From The Underworld where he is forced to look into the eyes of the people he watched die, literally being surrounded by his own past consequences. In No Longer You, being faced with the consequences of his future actions, and a grand choir announcing the suffering ahead. And in Monster where it all comes down to the decisions he’ll make now.
Epic diverges a bit from the Odyssey but defiantly based on. the Choir sung hints of songs to come later. Jorge's mom sung Ody's mother. his father and sister have small parts in the future. If you noticed when ody puts his head in Penelope's lap she pulls off his headband signifying the loss of Polities ideals and the change from ody to the monster. the choirs lyrics below if you want to know. Everything in No longer you is hints of the future. Sirens Song Scylla Throat Mutiny Lightning bolt Find Poseidon (unconfirmed) Kill all the Suitors for love (unconfirmed) he did not confirm the last 2 because at the time the songs were not out .
From all of the animatics for no longer you, wendys its my least favorite becasue its way to revealing, just that, visually its amazing, but my go to has to be ximena natzels one
Aaaand that’s act 1! Monster is the end of act 1, and then intermission before act 2 begins with Thunder Saga :D The idea of the first two songs being “teasing” or “stringing along” is an interesting one. Underworld saga is very internal/reflective, dark night of the soul kind of stuff (literally I guess). So I’ve thought of it that way-as reflective / contemplative, an inner arc more than an external one. Probably one of my favorite sagas though.
Same, there's just no fluff or filler in it, other sagas tend to have one song I either don't like musically or story wise, to varying degrees of quality. Not the case for Underworld, not at all
I highly recommend this combined video for the next 2 songs (first half of the Thunder Saga): th-cam.com/video/29z2ooCYGfE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LyLcRLqJ-yP65pT9

The last bit was never confirmed.
@@neonplural Maybe I should've made that more obvious, I thought that "Apparently" would've gotten across that it wasn't exactly confirmed

Wait really?
...
Ohh. You mean THAT version. It moved me to tears. I was crawling on the ground from that one.
Rawr rawr rawr
Yes amazing alternative version I liked it almost as much as the alternative version of hold them down with Antinuous
Fun fact: the mom is voiced by Jorge’s real mom 🥲
Where's the funny on that :'''')

This might be a spoiler in of itself, but Epic DOES split from the Odyssey in certain ways. There ARE spoilers to watch out for. Stay safe.

Only 3 songs, but these 3 are in top 5 most impactful songs! :'(
Not all songs need to go strong. I find the first two fine. My only complaint is that No Longer You is a bit short for me. 😅
So, we're done with act 1! Now onto the Thunder Saga, starting with my favorite song of the musical :)

I think she may be emotionally dead after what happened in the other show she is watching… (no spoilers)
Really? Which one?
Probably Vox Machina(and it's 100% understandable) @@alexeysimushov4971
@ Vox Machina.
I've just spotted which episode she has reached in TLOVM... oh dear
The first song of this saga always destroys me
my fav saga

I have no idea what this is, but the thumbnail looks like a *GANTZ* cover, so I'm here for it.
Lol what did you think?
Ayyy a fellow Gantz enjoyer, thats so underrated.
Not so fun fact: his is how Odysseus finds out his mom died while he was gone 😢
Ive been waiting for this, im glad youre gonna keep this up i wish i could watch your other reactions
I can't wait for the next saga
This is definitely one of my favourite sagas!
No Longer You my jam 🎵🎵🎵
