The Mario character Nintendo rejected

- In Super Mario Wonder, there's more playable characters then ever before - Peach, Daisy, Toadette... but there's one character you won't find in the game, or indeed, in any Mario games at all. And that's because this Mario character was rejected by Nintendo's creative powerhouse, Shigeru Miyamoto himself!
Thanks very much to CometMedal for creating the artwork of how this character might've looked! View both pieces of art in full quality here:

Thomas you need to do a video about Koopa kid from Mario party
3:31 Wow dam thx for the heads up thomas :)
Oh
No

The closest character we can get to having a "Wapeach" is definitely Captain Syrup. If Wario is a contrast to Mario, then Captain Syrup's femme fatale role would be an antithesis to Princess Peach's damsel in distress.
*Edit:* Welp, it looks like WaPeach finally gets revealed now.
oh my god youre right
Captain Syrup is such an underrated character.
TRUEEEE
Idk i feel like Captain Syrup is more Wapauline
Seriously, if we could actually get her in a game, I would cry.
The Mario universe would look so different if Wapeach somehow actually became a thing
R34 Artist would be happy about this
@@sdrawkcab_emanresuThanks, I forgot to flush my eyes out with cold water this morning
Why have wapeach and wadaisy when modern daisy is peaches wario
@@ashmander3465 Because Daisy isn't even a villain nor an anti-hero (despite being debuted in the same game as Wario), she is Peach's counterpart.
We already have Peach's rival. It's clearly Captain Syrup. She rules a crew of Goombas, she stole Peach's statue and has a connection to Wario. Even the name fits. I don't know why nobody seems to notice this.
Peach didn't need an enemy, she just needed a partner - and now daisy is almost loved as much as her 😂
Daisy is Wa-peach. Twist the p, get a d. :p
Not really, but it is fun to think.
@@GygasDistruttore oh yeah lol
Don't worry. Grape from the upcoming game Princess Peach Showtime will (likely) become Peach's enemy
The real Walupeach is the friend she made along the way.
"almost"? What's that supposed to mean?
Honestly I think an Evil Peach would go by a name like Mistress Leach, and an Evil Daisy would be called Mistress Hazy, it just seems like a better idea to me.
I approved those name ideas
I don't think Nintendo would use the word "mistress" tbh
That would be an awesome idea hopefully peach and daisy will get their stand alone game and mistress leach and mistress hazy can be the ones they battle against
I have called this theorhetical character Princess Cheap
@@jasongretencord3326 guess what happened
Peach seemed really happy to have that character banned on the thumbnail.
I think actually she doesn't really care, considering that character never actually made it in and therefore had no interaction. Plus Luigi doesn't really give a crap about Waluigi.
@@AntarcticaMade Nah Peach definitely killed Walupeach
@@MarioLuigiAndJr. Whaaat?????
@@MarioLuigiAndJr. I never got to meet her so I don't have any strong feelings for her.
Wapeach could be renamed as "Weach" so it would be a play with the word Witch + Peach
A lot of people would read it as "Wench".
@@VivioSaf that is a problem that would not be mine, just read it right. The same happens with Bowser that some people call Browser, again, not my problem.
Slapping W in Peach’s name doesn’t make sense nor does it sound good enough. It either have to be WaPeach (since Wa means bad in Japanese AKA bad peach) or give her a new name that has hints of rotten Peaches or something
@@Tsunamy34Microsoft Bowser
I think the closest we got from a "bad peach" is the shadow queen in peaches body from Paper Mario TTYD, but the fan artwork looks really good too.
Princess Shroob aswell is a very villianous counterpart to Peach
THE GREATEST QUEEN AND BEST VERSION OF PEACH BECOME HER FAITHFUL SERVANT!
I propose bringing back Captain Syrup as the bad girl character, her whole pirate theme is fresh among the Mario cast and she's a rival to Wario so the Doronjo comparison is out of the question.
Taking a guess right now, this is about the rejected Wario version of Peach 😎
Correct!

I'd want a Wa-version of Bowser called "Wowser", and he would be really nice and sweet.
But Bowser's counterpart is just Peach. They are both rulers.
There is. He is called "Dark Bowser", who happened to be the ancient Dark Star.
@@johnathantaylor5913what about Bowser Jr or donkey Kong as a counterpart
@@grill999 Counterpart to who -- Bowser? Donkey Kong was once a close match, considering he was once the main villain in the early days, but he hasn't fit that role for decades now.
As for Bowser Jr -- no. He fills the same role that Baby Mario does for Mario. (And all the Baby characters for their respective adults).
@@johnathantaylor5913 yeah I was thinking that bowser could be a counterpart to donkey kong. Even though donkey Kong hasn’t played the role of a villain for a while, he is going to appear as the antagonist in the Mario vs donkey Kong remake that is coming out soon.
You are telling me that Miyamoto was potentially scared of the idea of having an evil, sexy Peach? And all this time I thought "Wapeach" was just a copy of Peach but with Wario's nose.
Considering how they reacted, I can imagine Bowsette made Nintendo very uncomfortable.
Update: Now that Warupeach's design got revealed, I can see why they rejected her. She wasn't some "evil, sexy Peach"; quite on the contrary, she looked like a teenage version of Peach, which may have not been unique enough. Even less so now that Rosalina has her hairstyle and Ashley from WarioWare pretty much inherited her personality.
Well, they had a good reason to be uncomfortable with Garbagesette. 99% of the content everyone did for her was trashy Not-Safe-For-Work fanart/fan fictions of everyone using the Super Crown to turn anything (even underaged characters and non-living objects) into creepy-looking princesses with exaggerated features and very skimpy clothing.
All I'm saying is that I hope Bowsette/Garbagesette *NEVER* becomes an official thing ☠️
Probrably why they made sure to say only toadette can wear them
Takahashi probably saw that, called Miyamoto, and personally said "I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO", and hung up before Miyamoto could get a word in.
I guess that's just karma.
@@mariajimenafigueroa233 She already was an official thing. Never made it into the actual game, but Bowser using his own Cap to possess Peach was an idea they had for Super Mario Odyssey.
Also, please take your obsession with bashing anything remotely suggestive back to the 1800s.

We must also not forget about Boshi, Yoshi's rival!
Sure there's also a trio, Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi. But why can't there a trio, Wario, Waluigi, and Boshi?
Miyamoto: (rejects "Wapeach")
Meanwhile,
Captain Syrup: (exists)
Not every character needs to be a literal one-to-one derivative.
To be fair captain syrup isnt a mario character but rather a wario character
They wanted to make a love partner for Wario that would be a rival for Peach, Captain Syrup is an antagonist for Wario and probably don't even know Peach exist.
Technically modern Daisy is peaches wario
@ghenetto sure, just ignore the fact they're litterally not and you'd be correct!
@@Mari_Izu
Captain Syrup literally steals a statue of Peach from her kingdom in her first appearance, and just like how they do it in WL:SI Syrup and Wario could team up for the sake of getting money/attention
always viewed captain syrup as wapeach as she's the opposite of princess peach with a playful femme fetale vibe compared to peach's sweetness and would be more interesting instead of a slightly different peach seeing them interact alongside the warioware crew(also got wario version of daisy from mona.) in a mario spinoff.
if mario got an anime would totally see syrup with wario/waluigi & the ware gang as a dorombo gang esque trio.
Look on the bright side: at least we eventually got Rosalina
IS that a bright side?
@@thenightstar8312I mean my personal opinion, yeah lol
@@nxtnova I mean Rosalina is cool, but she's no "Warupeach" (or "Weach", how some people are suggesting). It's two completely different character concepts.
Thank you so much for having me on this video! Was a ton of fun getting to draft up and draw my interpretation of "Wapeach". Fantastic job as always, Thomas! Looking forward to working with you more in the future!
Your art was awesome!! You nailed the Kotabe style perfectly 👌 I think she could be differentiated from Peach a little bit more but she still looks great!
We already have a sorta Warupeach called Captain Syrup.
All that needs to be done is to kindly but loudly ask Nintendo to do more with her.
I agree. We don't need some Peach clone that would be ugly and possibly give kids nightmares when Nintendo can actually put Captain Syrup in, as we don't need any other Wa-characters to the point where they end up making having evil counterparts of beloved video game characters a stale cliche'.
This is unlikely I'd love it if they included Syrup in the next Smash Bros. The roster could use at least 1 or 2 female villains. (Who's not an alternate costume or echo.)
Wapeach just got revealed by the original creator of Waluigi
The creator of wapeach showed us a sketch of her just recently. So we finally know what she looks like now.
If we're going by Nintendo's logic of upside down letters for the evil versions of the characters, then would evil peach be beach? 🤔
Probably why they wanted to avoid it?
In Japanese, Wah means something like "bad" so Wario literally means "bad Mario" and so on with other characters
_"Like Mario and Princess Beach."_
*~ Hideo Kojima*
@@GamepadStudios The word for "bad" is warui (悪い). "Wa" on its own can sometimes refer to one of the old names of Japan (和)
B*tch?
I mean if you think about Daisy is a perfect walupeach, hot tempered, likes action, kicks Bowser's ass in Mario party 3, and is a princess.
The only thing that's missing is Daisy being evil.
It just come to show that without The Doronbo Trio; not only Team Rocket wouldn't exist but even Waluigi as well and a real pity the OG Teio are truly underrated these days unlike Tatunsoko Vs. Capcom from the late 2008's to early mid 2010's era!
I don't like how the concept sketch for wapeach just looks like peach with eyeshadow. Waluigi and Wario are drastically exaggerated versions of their good counterparts. Since wario is really fat and waluigi is really skinny, I imagine wapeach would be really over-the-top cutesy and girly
Well, now we know how she looks like lol
The fan-made sketch you’ve shown at 5:52 (especially the black/white version) reminds me of the “Shadow Queen”, the final boss from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. If the original sketch made by Aoki back in 1999 also resembled that character, then we would know the Shadow Queen’s true origin story (at least when it comes to her “Peach form”).
Keep in mind that TTYD was released in 2004, for the GameCube, and developed by Intelligent Systems.
Well, spoke too soon, I guess…
😎👍
5:55 my dude, that's just angsty Peach. Wario and Waluigi’s primary design trait is that they’re exaggerated versions of Mario and Luigi. There’s nothing exaggerated about that artist’s rendition, it could easily just be a reskin colour from Smash.
Agreed. I feel like a real inverse Peach would have a lot more going on. Frizzy hair, maybe a cartoonishly long dress that drags behind her, a way bigger crown for a huge ego, and a color palette that better reflects a cruel side of royalty. Maybe some kind of crimson. As the rendition stands, it just looks like Shadow Queen Peach wearing blue
Thank you! Exactly!
Miyamoto could've at least had a look at the sketch, or Takahashi could've told him they used a different inspiration this time. Ah well.
This aged well, finally we get to see WaPeaches design!
Plot Twist: "Walupeach" was used for _The Thousand Year Door._
I just love Thomas’s “byyeeeee~” so much!
I actually knew about Walupeach but misunderstood the order of events. I always heard that, much like Wario needed a doubles partner, so did Peach, so they designed a sort of goth Peach (not really evil, but dark in other ways), and Nintendo's response was "we already have this other princess that hasn't been seen since the early Game Boy days. Maybe do something with her."
Warupeachy is now revealed, her design has finally been revealed
Damn, Miyamoto savaged that poor guy lol.
I always thought Waluigi looked like Dastardly from Dastardly and Muttly.
Personally I'd have gone with the name Wallflower. Keeps both the Wa- prefix and the floral naming scheme of the other Princesses.
Oh I like that, clever!
Warose
No, that’s dumb
Sorry! I accidentally hit dislike; I have now undone the dislike.
The closest to that we got was that time Wario transformed Daisy into a very different looking and evil version of herself in the Manga.
I like the concept sketch of what Wapeach could've looked like, but it feels too bland. It honestly looks more like a Peach alt costume for Smash Bros
I think it boils down to 2 things: 1 Miyamoto being based (not the first time) . 2 He didn't want Nintendo go get into a lawsuit with Tatsunoko over the "Wapeach" design. Waluigi's design almost crossed that line.
Then the fandom created Bowsette and that was a whole other can of worms.
Bowsette is not an opposite rival of Peach, she's just a crappy Peachfiled version of Bowser
The internet may have made Bowsette after NSMBUD was revealed, but Nintendo themselves _already_ made a Bowsette when designing Mario Odyssey. (And then there's Bowletta from Mario & Luigi, but that's a bit different.)
Meanwhile in Zelda, Ganondorf has been Zelda on two separate canon occasions.
@@angeldude101 Nintendo was never thinking into making Bowsette a real thing, the concept art from Mario Odyssey has nothing to do with the Super Crown and it was scrapped anyway.
@@mariajimenafigueroa233 That's why I said *_a_* Bowsette. Yes, it had nothing to do with the Super Crown, but the Super Crown really wasn't that important to begin with. It was just a way to justify a version of Bowser that looked like Peach. Nintendo had their own reasons for making such a design, and so they did so. Even if it didn't make it into a game, someone at Nintendo still considered the idea and made a sketch for it.
@@angeldude101 Nintendo had some great ideas that they sadly rejected, but they're some they made a great decision to scrapped and a version of Bowser that look like Peach is one of them. I hope that *NEVER* becomes an official thing ☠️
In fairness, Doronjo was a very sexual character and kind of a dominatrix in appearance, so if Miyamoto thought Wapeach was anything like her, yeah she would clash with the rest of the gang.
Ah yes, the classic story of reintroducing Daisy and the creation of Waluigi
Well, this just became dated
Awww heck yeah new thomas game docs vid lets GOOOOOO
The fact that you said "alongside mario, peach, Wario, and others" and then showed luigi felt wrong
Well… Wapeach’s design was revealed
Super Mario Bros wonder is different, he wanted crazy ideas, he said that in an interview
You know, it would be really cool if Nintendo released a book of their history which could include cut content from their games including characters
I’m not sure if this concept already exists but I would love to see something like that
Tho it would be spread out throughout multiple books
I agree, but the problem is that Nintendo would need to copyright all the cut stuff before putting the book out. Imagine every Nintendo competitor just drooling over the idea of ripping off their cut content. It's much better to repurpose the material later.
You'd have to look it up because I don't recall the details, but apparently the 2 mini dungeons from Wind Waker were supposed to be full dungeons, and one got repurposed for Twilight Princess.
@@metasteelgaming4373 True

I’m so happy to see your videos again!
Great video, thank you! At the start of the video I thought it was going to be about Bowsette. Would love to see that character to become an official Nintendo character!
Camelot: "We can't come up with a partner for Wario. Can you guys help us and create a character for Wario?"
Nintendo: "No."
Ah, yes, the Garlic princess of the Clove Kingdom
That lost character was called Warupichi, not Walupeach
Isn't that literally the same thing though
Pretty sure Captain Syrup and Princess Shroob already do Wapeach's job.
6:00 Well... we had no way of knowing it beforehand, but that provisional design was WAY out of target
They needed every character to have a partner for doubles mode..........yet they couldn't be bothered to make Baby Mario's tennis partner, oh I dunno.......BABY LUIGI?!?!
OK but now I want to see his version of Walupeach!
And now you can! Funny enough the creator of Waluigi recently released his design sketch for Wapeach. I’d link it but TH-cam hates link. Do a quick google and it should come up!

I'm just content to imagine a skinny Wario in a dress, mustache and all, as the reason it got rejected.
@@Link_1129 I did not know Miyamoto was so bad, sorry
Worth noting that at this time Nintendo was already making plans for an evil Peach.
The Shadow Queen in Thousand Year Door.
And we also got princess Shroob sometime later
You sure about that?
Peach's evil counterpart is essentially just Bowser -- they both rule different parts of the world in the same way almost every classic fairy-tale does (the good kingdom up against an evil queen, witch, dragon or so forth). Peach never needed an evil counterpart.
And if you turn Bowser into a sexy witch you get Bowsette, which is disgusting.
TV Tropes' page on Bowser listed him as an evil counterpart for both Mario (associeded with fire and being in love for Peach) and Peach (being the ruler)
@@mariajimenafigueroa233 It is interesting how many different ways you can pair characters with or against each other, and not just in the binary sense.
Although Peach is a counterpart to Bowser, she also doubles as the love interest of both Bowser and Mario -- but Mario doesn't seem to compare to Bowser in terms of counterparting Peach. However, the humble protagonist competing against a powerful antagonist for the love (or ownership) of a 'princess' is another trope as old as time.
Fascinating stuff.
Gosh I just realized how much I love Thomas's accent
THE WAPEACH IS REAAAALLLLL!

Comments are full of Captain Syrup, but there's also Queen Shroob, Shadow Queen, and even Wario's _friend_ Mona whose name is a variant of "momo" meaning peach or of the word for thigh because of her attractive build.
5:57 the design for her actually looks pretty cool the blue kind reminds me of Rosalina and the way she looks like on her face car reminds me of peach so you combined it to and then you get this
I have to say that’s probably one of the greatest mockup designs I ever seen that was somehow banned from Nintendo and trust me. It is probably one of the coolest concept designs.
Love it. Just a slight error though, in Mario Tennis 64, Peach automatic double partner was Mario. But I get what you’re saying if you’re referring to camelot games after Mario Tennis 64! Otherwise, good video!!!!
I like to imagine Shadow Queen from Paper Mario is the Walupeach idea fully realized.
love your videos
I've discussed it before, and so have others around in these comments, but I feel it's worth mentioning.
While we may have never had Waluigi in this alternative timeline, we could have gotten that Walupeachie if Camelot had did some digging into the Wario franchise up to that point.
In short, they couls have brought in Captain Syrup as Wario's doubles partner and have that be that. She'd be able to have more roles outside of her on-and-off appearances in the Wario Land series, and perhaps it could work from a story perspective, with Wario and Syrup finding a common enemy in Mario and gradually becoming good friends and lessening their rivalry a bit.
Instead, we got Waluigi, Walupeachie was rejected by concept despite Aoki's insistence that the concept was nothing like Doronjo, and Captain Syrup went on to be featured in only one more Wario game nearly a decade later before fading into obscurity.
Funny enough, despite there being no Warupeach, we _did_ actually get a Warudaisy, though the SML2 manga probably isn't canon.
Warupeach was also the Super Mario Land 2 manga, but it was Peach getting brainwashed, not a seperated character
I watched a minute of the vid and I already know its that waluigi peach thing or whatever[ don't worry I'm still gonna watch the whole thing]
