I live a 15 minute drive from Merles ranch and where he is buried and used to see him all the time around town here. He had a houseboat on the lake and would have big parties there. And he was just another guy when he was out and around here. We all miss him.
Lol. If I were in Alan's shoes I don't think I'da told him my momma made it either. Classic Hag story. I was blessed to be able to see him twice live. Last time was in San Antonio somewhere around 2015 at the Majestic theater. Packed house. We've lost so many of the legends and icons of country music in what to me seems like a short time. Who's gonna fill their shoes? I don't think anyone will ever be able to. If y'all ever get a chance to see any of the few that are still with us please do it. It's an experience worth while and a forever memory that no one can take away from you. God bless.
I enjoy your stories. My all time favorite, is the one of George Jones and Waylon Jennings. I've made sure to let my favorite family and friends hear it. It never gets old hearing it either. Thank you for entertaining us with these great stories and please keep them coming
Amen, love the Hagg. I saw him last at Bass hall in Ft. Worth. I knew then I would not see him again. It was just too good seeing him there. Great story. Many thanks.
That's they Way Love Goes (written by Left Frizzel and Whitey Sheafer) was "piitched" to Merle at a party circa 1972. Merl turned it down. Johnny Rodriquez was at the same party and said, "I'll record it!" He had a number one hit with. Several years later Merle recorded it and also had a number one hit. In the beginning, it had also been recorded by Whitey one of the composers of the song.
Lefty tried to get Merle to release it first because he wanted to make as much money as possible. Merle told him he had a hit and he would not sing it while Lefty was alive out of respect.
Artist like the Hagg,George Jones and Waylon are in my mind the biggest legends in country music and it seems nobody since will come close. But if anybody does it’s Artist like Alan Jackson and George Strait.
Gone 7 years ago yesterday!! I remember where I was when I heard the news. I was a big Willie fan when I was young. Still am. But I also became a huge Merle fan. Listen to him everyday. RIP Hag🙏🤠🍺
Why does everyone always ignore Buck Owens ??? All through the 60s and into the early 70s there was no Country artist bigger than Buck Owens ..... Buck Owens dominated the Country singles charts from the early 60s to the early 70s, but hardly nobody mentions him when naming the legends.
Buck Owens was more than just a great Country & Western Artist. He was along with Faron Young, Wynn Stewart, and Merle Haggard one of the Founding Fathers of the Original Bakersfield Sound out in California in the very early 1960s. And he was something else as well. As one of the two Main Hosts of "Hee Haw" alongside the insanely talented Roy Clark, Buck Owens served as a tentpole to promote practically every direction of The Country Music Industry for well over two decades. He helped shape the modern initiative of Country & Western in much the same way that Ed Sullivan did for Elvis Presley and The Beatles to shape modern Rock & Roll.🤔😉🎤🎼🎵🎶🎸🎹🎻🥁📺B.W.
The great Merle Haggard 💥 I got a chance to meet a couple of his sons in Waxahachie Texas back around 2001/02 at the theater. Noel & Marty. They sounded and looked just like Dad 👍🔥
Saw Merle at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth back in 1981. Billy Bob's was a new honky-tonk and Reba was a new artist as she opened for Merle and the crowd booed her wanting Merle. Tough lady put on a great show and then Merle and The Strangers blew the roof off.
My friend Kenny Vernon toured with Merle, about a year or so before Haggard died. Kenny gave me a photo of he and Merle on his tour bus. I will cherish it for my friend and the legend. God speed Kenny and Mr Haggard.
Great story, made me laugh out loud. I can just picture it. Too bad Alan didn't tell Hag, hey my mama made that. Love em both. Ol' Hag is my all time favorite and Alan is in my top 2 or 3. RIP Merle.
A too long story, with no punch line. One sentence would have been enough. I’m sure Haggard had better stories than this. Jackson’s PR people need to up their game.
I ADORE this story. There is no disrespect by Alan towards Merle, even though Merle insulted Alan''s Mama's pie. Merle was Merle. Makes me love Alan even more.
All of that for Merle saying dont eat that d pie? He spent months of the Road with Merle and called him crazy for telling someone not to eat that da-- pie?
Waylon had an “episode” with Merle. They were never friends after that according to “the Hoss”. I never thought a lot about it, but Waylon said that episode was why he and Hag never sang together.
I miss the good old days growing up and listening to the country legends and now all that's left is jackson, strait, black, yoakum and a just a few others and also now we have a lot of pretty boys that think.... their country but they are not definitely country or fer that matter country music and I don't listen to that crap

Alan Jackson can take Merle Haggard's name outta his mouth yesterday. Country music has sucked for as long as Nashville has been in charge. God bless the "outlaws" who spoke truth.

The Great State of Jefferson
I miss Merle
Speaking of water, I love his song Kern River.
I stayed out on his ranch in the early 90s, beautiful view of the mountains. He still had the houseboat then, but was up at the house a lot.
You are not telling the truth
Love Alan and Merle . We all miss Merle . 🙏♥️🇺🇸😊
Anyone that doesn't love the Hag.. doesn't know great music ,a beautiful voice.
One-of-a-kind for sure. That is just the Way Love goes 🤗😎
My Dad always said if it ain't Merle Haggard it ain't country. And I agree!!
Hell of a long way around the barn for that.
To each their own, sounds like Alan Jackson’s “ Momma Tried.”
I been working around the house all day and listening to Merle! I’ve had a good day and got a lot done!
the lawn could stand another mowing...
Good for you! It's always a good day when you listen to Merle. I'm the same way.

tell it like it is
I know he was great, but you got no business getting honesty and a smart a. Mixed up
Love Alan and miss Merle❤❤ a beautiful story
Got to see Merle twice in concert. Once he co headlined with Hank Jr, the other was his own tour. Old dude still had it.
I saw him 10 times each time trying to get a guitar pic. Got one the very last show I went to about a year before he passed, he still sounded great.
This was a good one. No dirt. Just a good funny road story. Thanks.

That’s a good & funny memory about Merle Haggard to share.
I think Merle now knows!
Amen, love the Hagg.
I saw him last at Bass hall in Ft. Worth.
I knew then I would not see him again. It was just too good seeing him there.
Great story. Many thanks.
THE HAG & AJ are both AWSEOME !!
I love lemon meringue pie that is my favorite
Two Country Legends!
Willie said it best: He won't ever be gone.
You had me bustin' up... thanks for that!
This was sweet and funny both.

Pretty amazing that Merle passed on it first time around, particularly seeing as it came from Lefty Frizzell.
Lefty tried to get Merle to release it first because he wanted to make as much money as possible. Merle told him he had a hit and he would not sing it while Lefty was alive out of respect.
My 2 favorite county singer

I shook Marty’s hand tonight and took pic with him after his show here in Louisiana. What a great guy and man, those genes run deep!!

Reba is half man. Don't like her.
The first time I heard The way Love Goes was in the mid 70s by Johnny Rodriguez
I love Johnny Rodriguez!!!!
My friend Kenny Vernon toured with Merle, about a year or so before Haggard died. Kenny gave me a photo of he and Merle on his tour bus. I will cherish it for my friend and the legend. God speed Kenny and Mr Haggard.
That’s what us Outlaws are Alan...
CRAZY 😂
Some of the artist on here are the best of friends 😊
Two of the best ever, Mearle and Alan, Great singers
Crazy talented

Wow, that's one crazy story 🥱
Spent time out a Merle’s. Good kind man
That's a "classic story"?
Merle yelled out "don't eat that yellow pie" and for doing that Jackson said, "he was crazy!" Wow..classic story.
Merle is the greatest of all time imo

Can't beat Hank Sr. And Merle.
Wasn't there and have no idea what happened. I've rode in a mercury but got drunk and high on Skokies. I like the Skokies😊
The Hag is the absolute king of country music.
Oh my god that was shocking. Absolutely shocking, poor old AJ mom.i heard she never cooked again.
And don't eat no yellow snow!
What is the beautiful bluegrass music background in this country cast episode?
Never Ever diss off anyone's sainted mother
everyone knows george jones was alan jackson idol
Love AJ ❤
Iloveit❤❤❤❤
The title of this video is misleading. I do agree though with the line about not a day goes by where we don't miss the HAG.
At 11 years old I wanted to marry Merle Haggard.
In truth, we are all crazy, but some more than others.
Happy Birthday Merle, We love you, Also RIP, Born and died on April 6th
he died on his birthday?

Waylon had an “episode” with Merle. They were never friends after that according to “the Hoss”. I never thought a lot about it, but Waylon said that episode was why he and Hag never sang together.
Mama tried one of my favorites
Drugs and alcohol made Merle crazy AF lol!
Love Merle, but Johnny Rodriquez had a hit with that song first..
If Merle didn't like the pie, it probably was not good.
So, Merle didn’t take a shot at AJ’s mother.
The guy that died on his birthday, what's the odds? Not very many people that's ever happened to.
Watch out where the huskies go,and don't you eat that yellow pie.
Righto, Frankie!
I know you’ve heard it a million times, but I’ll fix your flat tire, Merle.
BECAUSE HE DIDNT LIKE THE PIE
Sounds like wsm650 Jeff Hoag narrator for this.
Alan could of played basketball or tall pitched too
Merle had no where else to go but up as TRUE COUNTRY
Got to love the "Hag".
Kin to both but my grandad knew only one at family reunions. Trust me Merle is off but he's good!!!!
how is that in any way crazy at all lol
We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee (he just took pills and snorted coke) 🙄
great tale my a$$
This was a pretty lame story for such an interesting period and person 😅
He's doing great with out signing with the devils in Nashville
Not like failed Rockstar in Nashville now
Why is this Yankee saying "y'all"? lol
The lead up was way overblown for this story.
❤😂😇💖🙏
Oh merle haggard wasn't crazy he did what he wanted to do

Merle kind of a punk for cleaning Waylon out gambling during the lean years.
BlaBlaBlaBla
Ok ya right
It's hard to believe that Merle did that to Alan's pie. He just violated it and let Alan eat it? So gross.
This is a great tale? zzzz
😍💖
Dont believe a word of this
Merle Haggard was the man.
Wow, that story was really weak
Merle sounds like my dad. Very annoying to people who really know him. Intriguing to those who don’t.
Here's one for all the ex-cons in the house...
Merle didn't like the yellow pie, and he said so. What was so crazy about that?
What da hell, so what...? u cannot be serious..
Love Merle and AJ ...but this story? get a life....
Seriously?!
