I like him mostly for his efforts to keep his music "country." REAL country music is pretty much gone. I never even listen to mainstream radio anymore because there is NO country music on it. I listen to one station that plays oldies. And just listen to my playlist which is full of the REAL stuff. I think my favorite song by this guy is LOVES GOT A HOLD ON YOU.

Yearsvago I worked in Kennesaw, Georgia with a nurse who remembered you and your band traveling in an old school bus and saying you guys were broke and starting and would just stop in and buy snacks but, always humble and kind as I figured you guys were. Love guys ALWAYS. True to your roots you did as gospel as you are are and you will always be loved by me and my familyvas always as now. I am a half breed as called black which many question when I'm approached but, always questioned but, birth certificate says Negro but, I'm your little SOUTHERN Sistet because as I was raised, you are my brother and you are AMAZING and we LOVE YOU ALWAYS!
Alan, you have been my favorite since you began (yes! I'm old!). I wish I had known about your health problems longer, as I could have been praying for you longer! I guess I've been tied up fighting my own non-hodgkins lymphoma and chemo for a long time. I'm sorry I've been so selfish as to not notice your health battle! I'm glad I know now though. As I continue my own battle, now I'll be able to pray for yours! One other thing that makes me sad is that I've written poetry and music lyrics (the tunes are in my head). Most are just good for me or maybe my family. However, I've written a few that my family has been buggin me for years, saying how "sellable" they are! Most would have been perfect for your voice. I never wanted to be an on stage singer, although I am a Native American flute artist, and have performed many concerts for the Colorado Wolf & Wildlife Center and have performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered one CD (Kindred Spirits), as well as done all the graphics for the cover, featuring the wolves of the Wolf Center, and portions from the CD Kindred Spirits, and entire proceeds from performances benefiting the Wolf Center, before cancer, neurological illness and osteoarthritis took over and made me unable to play my flutes (I have 16) because of jerking and "freezing up" of my fingers and wrists. However, I guess now I'm unable to share my songs with you. I waited so long because I was convinced that you only sang your own stuff, religious songs, and sings of well known artists. I guess the old saying, "You snooze, you lose" has become very meaningful in my life. Alan, I will pray for you and your wonderful wife and family as you battle CMT. And for others that suffer from this disease. Thank you for all your years of some of the best music in my life!

I saw Alan in 1987, at @lake Winnepesaukah in Rossville, Ga. I called every Radio Station in Chattanooga, TN no one knew who he was. Short story 10 people in the audience. Now I wish him all the best, will miss him singing but understand, because I have the same issue now to, with different health issues. I have CMT also. It is challenging some days. The pain can be unbearable at times. Lost alot of muscle and movement in my hands and feet. Still go to work everyday. Don't let life's battles keep you down. Keep going no matter what.
