I’ve been a rockabilly and Dwight Yoakam fan for many, many years but until I heard this tribute to his friend and mentor I didn’t realize what a truly beautiful voice he has. I was struck by the fact that this song was my grandmas favorite hymn and we sang it at her funeral. You could tell the love he had for Buck shown through with this rendition
@@Anonymous-ff5wr You know, we sang these songs in church when I was growing up but as I get older now, I realize how precious and beautiful these songs truly are.
I met Grandpa Jones years ago at a bluegrass festival in Ohio, and he wanted to kidnap me. And heard me singing with my in-law's. And years ago I met Buck Owen's in California, but my point is, is that when I met Buck Owen's he was one of the most truly talented and nicest man I had ever met in my life. I've had the privilege of meeting just about every country singer from the 60s, 70s and 80s. I've also met a few of them that weren't very kindhearted at all,I'll not give out their names. And I've had the opportunity to get stuck in literal traffic gridlock next to the Judd's back in the 80s. But I'll never forget how down to earth Buck Owen's and Loretta lynn and several others of the country music family were. They treated me like I was just another family member. It took all he has to give to not only try to keep it together during this beautiful song but also give a wonderful and most sincere, heartfelt performance. He is hurting here. What a beautiful moment on such a sad day. That was God’s Loving Grace we witnessed there. Can’t say enough about Dwight. He’s the reason I know about Buck Owens. Rest In Peace.

Most people have no respect for the love between men. Dwight loved Buck as a father, and his tribute was true and heartfelt... thank you Dwight, rip Buck... father to son, son to father... god speed.
My dad had a few men friends who were like brothers to him. That's how the old timers lived. We used to call those friends family. My mother the with a few of her women friends.
We all should be so fortunate as to have had such a friend. The fact is, there is only one way to ever find such a blessed friend. And that is to in deed be such a friend.
Buck Owens was my favorite country singer when I was young, 50years ago. I still remember his songs and his nice voice. I was lucky to hear him live once.
Allen Boynton Amen to that! Dwight is by a mile the greatest living country singer left now besides Willie Nelson, though we have some other great artists left like the guys from BR549.
Dwight definitely tops my list, with Bocephus a very close second. Willie is exceptional in his own style; but, it isn't quite my taste (setting aside his duets with Waylon and Toby; and his time with The Highwaymen). All of that said, I must thank mysteryJesus for reminding me of BR549. I cannot believe I'd forgotten about them. I'm ashamed of myself. Thank you for the reminder.

For Dwight to sing with a musical instrument and wear a hat inside a church were huge ways Dwight set aside his religious beliefs in order to honor his mentor and friend, Buck Owens. Dwight is clearly a member of the Church of Christ who believes that we are commanded by the Good Lord to use the "fruit of our lips" to honor the Father and the Son in song. Dwight would have done this for no one else but Buck and it goes to show just how close they were. RIP Buck
David played a harp. The Bible mentions trumpets throughout scripture. Other Musical instruments like lyres and pipes are mentioned in the Bible. Instruments can and should be used to worship our savior.Psalm 98Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises. Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, With the LYRE and the sound of melody. With TRUMPETS and the sound of the HORN Shout joyfully before the King, the LORDPsalm 33 Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; Sing praises to Him with a HARP of ten strings.1 Samuel 18 It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with TAMBOURINES, with joy and with MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS. The women sang as they played, and said, "Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands1 Chronicles 15 Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the HORN, with TRUMPETS, with loud-sounding CYMBALS, with HARPS and LYRES.
I think a big clue that God appreciates instruments is giving Dwight and so many the gift of playing instruments so beautifully. There are many interpretations of scripture but I think it's wise to use the FULL counsel of God and not one or two scriptures apart from all pertaining to a topic. The Bible says to work out your own salvation, not for someone else to work it out for us. God bless...
Matt Beeman because the man who started the Church of Christ interpreted the Bible the way he saw it , not the way God gave it. Thus another denomination became born right out of a man's carnal mind . I believe God loves music. It's all in the Bible . Men come along and try to ruined it .
Let's clarify that.... the non-instrumental Church of Christ. There are also Instrumental Church of Christ, that come from the same Restoration Movement. And everyone else who commented. You don't know the history of either. You are rumorizing the church. So just stop talking about what you don't know.
I listen to this over and over... the song itself.... I move the button to 2:08 which is where the long begins. When I have stress, I come here to hear this song. I imagine myself in the garden when the dew is still upon the roses..... the stress eases away. I am at peace with my Maker.
I was raised in a Baptist Church and we sang this song often. I'm an atheist, but I have a soft spot for two things about that experience and one of them is a love for a few of the hymns. A couple of them are musically beautiful. This is one of them. I've listened to it like 5 times tonight.

I realize this is about Buck Owens but I have a story about Dwight. This happened some time back, about 23 years or so. I'm from San Antonio and was at the River Center Mall one Saturday and I'm walking through the upper level and I see this guy coming toward me with a blonde girl. He had on the skin tight jeans and a "Colt .45" baseball cap and being a big fan of Dwight Yoakum I recognized him right away. Dwight passed right by me and went into a department store with the girl. I was surprised that no one else had recognized him. Any way, I decided I was going to go into the department store and see if I could get an autograph. I found him n the store and he was kind of just standing around like he was waiting on the girl friend to come out of a dressing room. I approached him and just said "Hi Dwight". I felt like an idiot but he said hi back and we struck up a conversation. What a down to earth guy he was. he talked to me like we had known each other for years. His girlfriend finally came out of the dressing room so they were going to move on but he shook my hand and said it was a pleasure talking to me and off he went. I forgot to get the autograph but saw him later on the lower level of the mall and by that time people had figured out who he was and he was surrounded. He waived as we passed each other again.
What a wonderful memory to cherish! From interviews I've seen of DY, your story is spot on, exactly the kind of down-to-earth dude he comes across as. Thank you for sharing your delightful connection with the fella x
That's a really really cool story. I'm envious, but not in a dickhead way. I would be extremely honored to meet him for a few reasons. He's a total class act.
My mom's uncle Billie Channel was friends with both Buck Owens and Porter Wagoner. They would get together every Sunday down at Great Grandpa Channel's farm in the foothills. They would sit on the front porch and play music and sing all day until supper time. Billie was one of the best fiddle players in the midwest. He started playing professionally with his two friends helping them get started with their music careers, but he had a family to take care of and traveling wasn't for him. That being said, he never forgot his love for music and his country friends Buck and Porter. Thank you for sharing this video, It hits close to home for me.
Would love to see some porch picking from them both! have some musician friends and you cant beat a good session of pass the guitar around among friends and some cold beverages

Spot on
Absolutely
How many of today's country music stars will actually come on out and mention God, faith, and respect for a church and their elders? What was lost?
music became commercialized and lost its soul. you see it with many different music genres.
+Samuel Anderson good point but i m not even religious and I tip my hat to dwight, he is truly a clas act....hat joke was too dam funny
+happy loser Laughter in the case of loss is always welcome
Nobody cause if they do, they lose their money

Damn I teared up watching this, this has to be the most emotional outpouring I've ever seen of a professional musician, he just about broke down completely before he shifted to that other part of his brain and began singing.
this was one of the hardest things Dwight ever had to do. so hard on him Buck was like another daddy to Dwight.
It’s a season of love for me and so I decided to put a smile on the faces of my fans by going through my TH-cam channel and checking out on my fans, so I can get to communicate with my fans better through discussion of depth and humor listening to compliments and criticism of my career.

My Mother's favorite song... RIP, Mother - I miss you so much...
I was thinking about my mother as I came across this comment. I can't imagine how sad I'll be when my mom dies. I'm sorry for your loss.
My mom’s too! Now I play it at church on my guitar. Simple & true 🎶
Dwight is a true blessing for the country music world and there is so many people that love him and Buck is looking down on his dear friend

Great send off for a true legend.

The pain Dwight feels shows through so much. I feel his pain as well the loss of a true Country Music Legend. God be with you Buck and may he be with you Dwight.
AWESOME
TO GREAT SINGERS!😊
Thanks Dwight for saying how much we loved Buck and couldn't meet him to say so!
A genuine man talking about another genuine man and speaking from the heart 🎸
I'm shedding 100 percent pure tears for hearing this Heartfelt tribute!
Buck was a classy guy ... with an extraordinary classy friend in DY
Having Dwight sing at your funeral is an honor all by itself. Peace be with Mr. Buck Owens.
A great tribute. Singers talk about their idols but I could tell that to Dwight Buck meant so much more.
When we saw them together, Dwight and Buck always had big smile on their faces. You could tell what great friends they were. We are so lucky to have these videos to watch to wonderful artist. Thank all of you for sharing
One of the last great real country singers. Dwight you are the best.
Absolutely sung from the heart and soul! No one else could have done it nearly as well. Can’t touch this
That's probably my favorite hymn ever. Well done.

So moving to hear the genuine love, regard, and appreciation Dwight has for Buck.
country is singing your heart and soul. very few 'country' songs can really ever touch this level of realism
God bless Buck and Dwight!
One of the best songs in history!!
I played this song and my precious grandfather sang. Thank you Dwight for the memory.
Buck Owens was my favorite country singer when I was young, 50years ago. I still remember his songs and his nice voice. I was lucky to hear him live once.
One of the best hymn, well done Dwight
most beautiful rendition of this song i've ever heard, thankyou dwight. rest in peace buck.
Yes. So entertaining I love this version. How are you CheifcreekTurtle ?
I could listen for hours to his honey-sweet voice! Thank you, Dwight, for sharing your talent with us. RIP Buck Owens, a true legend.❤❤❤
I'm so glad I got to hear them both in my time God bless them both 😢
The greatest living country singer right here.
I'll drink to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll take Alan Jackson
I might toss Rodney Crowell and Emmylou into that discussion, too.
What a unique artist is Dwight! I found him in the 90’s and he’s with me daily. Thank you 🙏 Dwight 👍👌⭐️⭐️⭐️✅
Beautiful and very Touching
Dwight is a good man....and he so loved Buck Owen's to the max.
Ur the best Dwight.Class act to country music and humanity!

1 John 2:15-17 New Living Translation
15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
James 4:4 New Living Translation
4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God."
Mark 8:36 New Living Translation
36 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
How he ever got through this song without breaking down is truly by the grace of God.

@@JohnSmith-uy7sv , even Satan can cite scripture for his own purpose.
For all my relatives ND friends, those still here and those already home.....
@@chickenhawk9772 correct :)
