You guys may notice a common theme among all of this Black cinema you've been watching lately. Serious issues are being addressed but there's always comedy injected. This is a real thing among the Black community...it's part of our history in this country. No matter what is going on and how bad things can get we will always find something to laugh about. In dire situations can laugh to keep from crying. Having said that...I have some recommendations for you. "Soul Food" with Vivica Fox, "Out of Time" with Denzel Washington & Sanaa Lathan, "Love & Basketball" with Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps, "Brown Sugar" with Taye Diggs and Sanaa Lathan, "Love Jones" with Nia Long and Larenz Tate and since you watched The Best Man you might as well finish the trilogy. 😃 You're welcome! 😂

Such a great, sweet, funny movie. The best scene is a small scene, 3/4 in when Martin Lawrence as an old man is left unattended at the car he's chauffeuring. He gets out of the car and looks around, seeing how much change there's been in the world. Then he sees himself in the mirror, and old man, well past his prime. He still has his dignity, even if he doesn't have his freedom, and straightens his tie. It's such a beautiful small scene.

The scene where Ray and Claude were standing on the bottles and Ray laughed at Claude I think was actually Eddie Murphy breaking character. He was really laughing at Martin. Most likely, Martin improvised that part.

Looool definitely new folks. They only started doing black films when madea got them crazy views. That was like a month ago or so maybe. I’ve been watching them for years now. If they didn’t get huge views from that, they would’ve still been doing the same white films they always been doing. I mean I halfway appreciate it because I’ve been complaining about it for at least a year on most of these popular channels but I also know it’s solely only for these big numbers. If they start getting 15k views on these I’m sure they’ll stop.

They are doing these movies because WE asked they saw our request and actually did it be grateful they actually listen instead of trying to make it out to be some sinister thing they are watching more black movies people like you will complain then once you get what you want you still complain as a poc do better and stop thinking just because it’s black we are being used it’s such a dumb, immature, and frankly childish mentality to have. There's a reference to another Eddie Murphy comedic collaboration in the fight scene @21:48, when Eddie says "I know a bitch named Della that hits harder than you." It's a reference to Harlem Nights, with Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, and several other very notable black comedians. It's also a period piece set in the same era as the initial scene at Spanky's, so you might find that one interesting to watch as well!

59:28 - Achara, you'd be surprised just how often that sort of thing happened in those days, where black men were wrongfully accused of crimes they did not commit. Or if they did commit a crime, the punishment did not fit.. for instance, like getting 30 years for stealing a pack of gum from a store, or something wild like that.
