I'm sure it's not just me, but here's how a Laura Kampf video goes for me:
1) start video
2) get excited and energized
3) stop video
4) go work on something in my shop
5) come back later and finish video
Thank you, Laura, for the added motivation each week.
That is the best compliment ❤️❤️ thank you!
No joke, it wasn't much, but I realized some of my appliances needed some greasing, so I paused the video and did just that before coming back to the video 😆
And that was before I watched Laura swinging the squeaking table ahaha
Safety glasses
👍🙂 true
Amen
Consider putting in a retractable electric cord in the rafters to drop down when needed, but out of the way.
Yeeees ceiling power so underrated!!! Did this for the 240v line my jointer needs.
My thought exactly!
This!!! My partner did this and the workspace was significantly more manageable
I was going to suggest a roadie solution (cable protection cover) but you're dead right, that's so much better
An overhead cord can get into the way when cutting into or cutting up materials. Sometimes we woodworkers are working with a piece of 4’ by 8’ piece of plywood. The cord needs to be routed underneath the saw so it is never an obstacle while cutting.
I love how you're basically taking us on a journey. To be fair you always did it in your videos, but this somehow feels expanded from just figuring out a design, next onto figuring out a house, to now figuring out every component of a new life
❤️
I love the easy flowing hair. Ive always wondered what was under the hat. You look awesomely happy
Agreed, the hair looks particularly good in this video.
From a seventy year old woman, I love watching you navigate through life. Vaya con Dios.
I'm 61 and I'm agree whole heartedly!!!
Same here.
71, Same!!❤
Me too, just turned 71. You are always so happy.
Liebe Laura, gute Reise nach Deutschland! Du hast dir schon einen schönen Werkplatz geschaffen in L.A.!
Cleaning the streets of LA, one discarded table at a time...I love it!
The quick Tacoma breakdown "alt scenario" was hilarious. Nice MacGyver skills.
laura security glasses please. always take of your eyes... i love your videos, you are trully an inspiration
Yes! It was lovely to see ear protection, but Laura needs to protect her eyes too.
6:25 I was thinking the same thing! Yikes!
Yeah, I have a rule - if I start doing the safety squints I should probably just spend the 30 seconds it takes to grab the glasses/goggles
She has never been safety focused, people post suggestions on how do things safer, but I feel like she's the kind of person who will not be safe unless she suffers a serious injury.
Yup. I got a piece of rusty steel in my eye two years ago, very painful. The first question the Opthamologist asked me was: "Angle Grinder?" My left cornea is permanently scarred, very luckily out of the visual axis. I wear so much eye protection now, I look like Neil Armstrong on the moon now whenever I'm doing any metal work
Laura, if you haven't invested in shop insurance, a security system, cameras, and damn good locks, you should really consider it.
Thought the same. I don`t want to bring the mood down but a thin-walled sheet middle in nowhere stagged with expensive tools just calls for something bad to happen - sadly. i hope for the best though
Right, God I'm from here and I would not move to California. You couldn't pay me to move there.
She's German, she probably has multiple insurance policies lol
I love the house videos, for sure, but I love the Laura that we see in LA. It is the Laura that started this channel!
Inspiring to see you tackle essentially a full life makeover with such enthusiasm and joy. Thank you for all the content! And, the edit of the car breakdown reaction was hilarious. I'd be number two, lol.
Laura takes a trashed portable table and turns it into a useful table in her shop. Perfect! I love watching your creative projects.
Super happy the car problem wasn't anything serious! And the foldable table idea is awesome! Have a safe and nice travel back to Germany!❤
*truck problem
@@karlspace5695A truck is just a type of car, it's not that deep.
‘Making’ is as much about making or remaking ourselves as it is about making ‘things’.
Thank you for taking us on your journey of remaking yourself!
Ooooh this feels weird that the premiere time shifted
True!
Loving the idea of you making things from junk collected from the streets of LA. Can't begin to imagine the things that get thrown out around there.
"i'm not gonna set up the Table Saaw until the shop is ready"
[jump cuts to the Table Saw already set up]
"D'oh!"
LMAO i feel ya
Now that you're in America, when you make a fix like that, you need a shot of you wiggling the battery holder, showing it isn't moving, slapping it, and saying "That ain't going nowhere!"
She did it last week with the AC unit 😀
And your spontaneity is just one of of the reasons we love you, Laura!
Ok so a few days ago my partner and I were cleaning up our workshop and had several Allen wrenches that came with stuff we bought, and I said to him, I bet Laura would have a project or idea for what to do with these instead of throwing them away. Then this video comes out and I screamed at the TV, like I knew you'd have something creative to use Allen wrenches for
This new back and forth between places and lives and video styles seems like a rhythm that powers your creativity and joy. It's a pleasure to see. Thanks
Laura you are a woman who has won. You are very lucky and an inspiration for all of us ❤️
The reason I love watching you is just seeing your thinking process, how you do things and how your not afraid to try stuff out of your comfort zone. You are an inspiration to female makes and heck to male as well. Just be you, you are great, talented and intelligent individual I think we are all better for watching and learning from you.
Great simple solution, every work table needs a cutting mat!
Laura, You look so HAPPY!!!! Thanks for sharing this adventure with us ...
Thank you for your inspiration. I stopped your video half-way through, ran to my shop and did a small project. You gave the boost.
The laura with shades gave me serious terminator 2 Linda Hamilton wibes..
I'm glad the truck was an easy fix. Congrats on successfully troubleshooting & fixing it ❤
My house burned down in 2017. Fast forward 2 years later: 2019. New house day BEFORE we move in - ALL my shop tools arrive including that particular model of saw you have. ANOTHER FIRE started and was slowly moving around some 3 miles from my house. What did I do? Assemble my saw...haven't looked back. LOVE IT!!! (and your enthusiasm and channel in general)
You are a breath of fresh air, Laura! You are a practical, positive, problem-solving inspiration; I’m off to declutter the garden shed to turn it into the workshop I’ve always wanted…I’m 66, female and it’s going to happen! Thank you for all the videos, the honesty and humour. Liking the no-hat look! HaPpY travels.
You have such an abundance of talent! Love it when you turn McGiver! Always look forward to your videos!
Your videos are an integral part of my Sunday routine, love the build this week! Hope you have a safe journey back to Germany and look forward to more!
What an impressively well designed little folding table. You rock.
Why not install an outlet up by the ceiling of your shop and then you would only have the cord for your saw coming down from above and no trip hazard 🙂 That's the way I have my shop wired a couple of outlets so I can move the saw around the shop floor.
I thought that too but then maybe there’d be a cable in the way of video shots?
BTW if you use twist lock plugs and outlets you won't have to worry about it coming unplugged if you happen to bump the cord.
@@ArtAndPrevailing I think that would be less of a problem then tripping over the cord lol
Haha you might be right, bud! It's a battle between OSHA and "get the shot". 😂
Hey Laura, love to see another Taco owner. I have a 2001 base 5 lugs , 2.4L engine 2wd just like yours but in red. I love working on it too. They will run more than 400-500k if you take take care of them. Some recommendations that's easy to work on, check the lower ball joint and the shocks. The first thing I did when o got mine was flush the transmission and engine oil. Get Bilstein shocks for front and back. The oem will be shot by now so it raise another 1 or so on your truck just with that. Love my Tacoma.
Yes! Felix! Janine! Smudo! I've missed them!
BTW, I *love* that fold out table. That's exactly the kind of thing I used to love making: something useful out of trash. Extra points if it also looks good like yours.
Your creative problem solving is always so refreshing, ingenious, and inspiring. Thank you!
Loving the journey. Thanks especially for the air conditioning installation episode. I think my husband (85 yrs old) is going to try to do the same thing in his shop. You are truly an inspiration! Elaine in Bow, WA
Thank you Laura, taking it back to its origins. I’m looking forward to some of your fun little projects of repurposing found objects 🎉
Awesome video format with the change ups! The workaholic, the comedy & repairs ending with brilliant solution from a randomly found table!
Yay! Germany again next week!!! YooHoo!🥳
Glad to be witnessing your joy. Thanks for sharing.
03:28 Laura McGyver! 😉👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😎🍀 congrats from good old Germany. 🙏
So happy for you with making your life work both with family and bouncing between Germany and Los Angeles USA 🎉
Thank YOU for inviting us along on your journey :D
Look up les't have a conversation
Laura, you are an amazing human being! Brilliant, creative, kind and funny! If I were in Köln or LA, I would absolutely volunteer to help on your projects!!! Stay awesome!! Greetings from Quebec City 🇨🇦
the way your brain works is just so cool - that table is genius!
I loved this video. You seamed so free and connected to that drive… thanks it was inspiring :)
Good problem solving on the car, you seem to be able to come up with a fix for everything! Can't wait till next week!
Laura I’ve learned so much from you over the years and now I’m adding ISRU to the list! I’m not a maker but I am a problem solver, and you are one of my gurus. So pumped to see your journey in L.A. And if I may speak for your many fans, we’d follow you anywhere! ❤
I cannot describe what your videos are providing me, but I can say that I love seing you going through life and projects
Much love from Frankreich
You are a fantastic inspiration but I must say nothing makes me happier than seeing you happy and enthusiastic. More Smudo helps too... 😄
That table's far cooler than it has any right being.
Also, hope you don't mind my saying, but your hair looks fanTASTIC.
Buen regreso a Alemania. Godspeed! Un abrazo!
Germán, Uruguay
I subscribed 8 years ago, your projects are creative, interesting...your videos are always enjoyable and great quality... looking forward to whatever/wherever you go!
Horse stall mats for the floor easier on your legs and tunnel the cables in the mats. It will save cutting into your floor and be way more comfy
One person’s trash is Laura’s treasure! Brilliant idea for the table , cool temp. fix for the battery connection. Sometimes it’s good to improvise, adapt and overcome!
I am confused - where is the pink tape? Great job on the truck battery hold down and that table is perfect. Please wave as you pass over the Palm Springs area - we're just about 30 miles North of that.
You're so resourceful & skilled Laura.
Not everyone manifests opportunities to re-invent their life so congratulations ... super proud of you ❤
Turning trash into treasure. So good to see you back doing what I enjoy most. Was getting tired of the house…
I like your “cowboy look” in the videos from USA :).
Live the “5 minutes later” thing :)
I would consider something to slow down the folding table when “defolded down”, otherwise it could kick the hinges and pull the screws from the wood over time. Good luck!
Laura, you may want to reconsider the mechanical attachment on your cutting mat...the LA heat is going to cause it to expand and deform, and by the end of the summer out here it may deformed all beyond usability by bubbling because it's retained by the screws...lesson learned from the California heat in a shop
Laura! No tripping needed!
Make an extension cord from materials at Home Depot or Lowe's then run your power cord up the right side table extension to the ceiling. I did it! Works great!!
Congrats on getting your work visa!
Keep good track of your income and especially tax information. The US is really picky about that stuff. Glad your here and best wishes for your new journey!
You’re right “ it’s not good to not be making” my eyes filled up. It’s in your blood…I relate, and I now accept and you and Simone helped me/ and are still helping me, as I navigate a 24/7 caring for a family member and finding time and energy to get back to me. So thank you both…you’re a treat to watch and the things you make are inspiring 🎉✨🌈🧡🌈✨ oh and well done Felix...smooth productions.
I drive a 98 F150 with 412,000km on her. I have a short somewhere but only when it’s wet out. So rather than drain my battery, I disconnect the cable when I get to work and when I get home in that kind of weather. But she still runs decently enough to get me around.
I just love that you fixed your truck yourself, and also that you went ahead and set up your new saw! Life is too short to wait to make a video about it ;) Bravo Laura!
I miss my 90’s Tacoma soo baad! Nice truck!! ❤
Oh, that's what I do all time... I "McGywer things" That is great. Thanks for this word. I just thought I was improvising. 🤣
"I have no self-control." Hilarious! Loved the chair next to the folding desk.
Laura, really happy to have you as a part-time American and to see you thriving in your new second home. It doesn't look super easy, but if you were to become a dual US/Germany citizen it would be awesome!
I'm along for the journey!!
Seriously, is there anything Laura can't do? Fixing a truck, building a cool table, setting up a table saw!!
Hugs from 🇨🇦
I'll be honest also: usually after you talk about the project you do a bunch of things i don't understand. But by the end I'm amazed, again, how very clever you are!! And yes, it's always FUN!! 😊❤
You are a delight, Laura. Always positive, always moving forward. Really an inspiration, for all of us long-time viewers.
Nice to have you here in the Golden State (though I'm up in the Bay Area so can't just stop in to say hello.) You're a welcome addition to one of the coolest coasts around!
Loving the transition of USA then Germany and back, so much to see and do
The cutting mat fitting perfectly to the width of the table.... and countersinking the screws to hold it down nicely... it's the little things!
Dont forget to keep a roll of bailing wire on hand ,I have a yota also and its battery has a bw connection,Also upgrade those battery terminals ,it gets hot in Cali and those terminals are junk
congrats, so great to follow you in this new adventure !
When deciding how to organise a workspace seeing the tools and other things in the space makes it easier to find the right spot for them.
Laura I love your enthousiasm, your humor and your practical skills. Keep on keeping on!
I always thought i was team Laura builds a house videos and now you are back to Making in LA i realized i missed maker Laura a lot. Glad to see you back in your element
Look up, les't have a conversation
I love that little table and want to go pick thru the trash now!
Oscar Wilde once said: "I can resist everything but temptation".
So I guess he would have set up the table saw as well 🤣
BTW: what a beauty that saw is...
You have created a life that works for you. Wondering how expensive it must be to travel back and forth. Obviously you make it work! 🦌💌❤️👍
Hello Laura good quick little project. As for your car issue go to pick and pull junk yard. It is a junk yard for cars and trucks good places. Some parts are cheap some parts are expensive. Look it up I hope there's one close to you in LA.
Great video. The bench is awesome. Upcycle! Mahalo for sharing!
Play is fun. More of that please 😊
It was a pleasure to watch this video for the simple reason that the camera was stationary like it used to be. Camera motion just for the sake of it (like on the ad at the end) is just a distraction. Thanks for sharing Laura
Laura last week: I'm resisting this with every bit of willpower.
Laura this week: turns out willpower is finite.
LA is car culture gone wild, glad to see you have had some car adventures. The layout and the weather in southern Cal. makes it possible to keep cars running far longer and easier then many other places (no road salt rust) look a round a see the older cars running. My little truck is 20 years old and is doing just fine.
Yay Laura! Anything you do is fun for me to watch. California or Germany, it doesn’t matter. Travel safe.
Laura, you are brilliant! Gosh, both of these projects: the repaired battery holder and the fold down table are so great! I love how you think and how you make. Safe travels. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
‚Do what makes you happy‘. always. Thanks for the reminder ❤
@Laura,
The legs on that table have a locking mechanism. Once you open then push at the hinge point to lock in. They are unlocked by pulling on the little tabs on each side.
You will see when you sat on the table, the hinge moved and could have collapsed under you. If locked in, it wouldn't have moved.
Laura-this lighting is gorgeous on you! You’re glowing! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So happy the truck fix was not serious, nice table also
I love the repair and the Table is absolutely amazing 🤩❤❤❤
There is a rubber cable protector you can buy for running cable across floors. It is about 150mm wide and slopes both sides so you don’t catch your foot. Seen them in lots of industrial/ office settings. Stop gap measure until you decide exactly where to site the saw
Not only Work/Life but Work/Life/Family. That is a couple of balls to bounce!
