      Depends on what type of campgrounds you like. If you are into US Forest Service, BLM, and National Park campgrounds, hardly any of these have hookups, and most are in such remote areas that there's no way you could go camping to them in an EV - none of them have enough range, especially if the campground you are talking about is in mountainous terrain, where the range of an EV is maybe half what you get in flat terrain. I love the idea of a camper-van version of the ID Buzz, as a successor to the old air-cooled VW micro-bus Vanagon, but the vast majority of State and Federal Park campgrounds, at least currently, simply have zero support for EV's. If the ID Buzz were a PHEV instead of a pure EV, it would be a GREAT base for a camper van conversion, but so far, the only PHEV mini-van in the US is being made by a company that has been through 3 different owners in recent years, and even when it was still "Chrysler corporation", the quality of their cars was arguably the worst of the three US manufacturers.

      @@laura-ann.0726 Good points there. I know it's about US spec, but I live in Switzerland where everything is much closer, and it would be possible to top-up the battery just before going really up the mountain. So range is less of an issue. Also going up drains the battery, but going down recharges it so you don't need much to go back. For me it sounds ideal for trips of mostly 2-300km and 1 or 2 nights. In the US I imagine it's great for surfing, but not to go far into the wild.

  • @greenne

    Great review. I just really wish VW would consider a larger battery pack for the US. If we assume EPA at 250-260mi...you start driving this at 70mph, add 3 or 4 passengers and some cool/cold weather the range will easily be under 200mi. Thats kind of rough for a road trip. I really think 300mi is the minimum for a road trip vehicle...

    Small correction: you mentioned there is no one pedal driving. Actually, one pedal driving is the B next to the D (drive) on the instrument cluster. VW has no idea how to build auto factories. VW's expansion plans crashed in 2017. Tesla bought Grohmann Engineering, limiting work to Tesla, so VW (and all the Germans, plus Ford and GM) was S.O.L. VW takes years to retrofit one factory - and their staff aren't skilled at building new ones. GM and Ford are worse. Jim Farley notes Ford opened its last new factory when he was 7 years old, before NASA landed a man on the Moon.

      i think diesel gate showed very well what costumers is to vw.

      it have been no secret they have been blaming their costumers for their bugs on their software.

    The design language and aesthetics are nice and it appears to be very utilitarian. However, the big question is how will it perform in the real world? And an equally big question is what about the issue of "market adjustments" by franchise dealers. Good luck getting it at MSRP especially when it launches. Due to federal and state dealer franchise laws VW has essentially no authority or control over what dealers end up charging. We see this happening with Ford EVs and other EV brands as well (except Tesla of course) which ends up crippling demand. Don't get your hopes up too high until the rubber meets the road and this vehicle has proven itself and matches expectations.

    • @chrisbeer324
      @chrisbeer324 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The reason that dealers are marking up above MSRP is because the demand for these electric vehicles is so high. And, just for the record: MSRP stands for Manufacturer *SUGGESTED* Retail Price. Dealers are free to charge whatever the customer will pay. And since people are willing to pay more, dealers will charge more - that is how a free market works.
      I certainly don't want the US federal or state government interfering any more then they do with car dealerships. They have already messed things up enough - just look at the issues Tesla is having trying to sell direct. That is because the dealership lobbies have too much influence. I don't even want to consider what "government price controls" would look like with the current situation.
