Auto manufacturers have stated in past interviews that wagons don't sell well in the US because most Americans like the lifted ride height and additional room that comes with a full on SUV unlike in other markets around the world.

A wagon is essentially a shorter suv more sleek and as spacious compared to some knock off SUV. People will drive them when they discover practicality meets utilitarian design.

Thats a winner for VW - they listened to all the criticism regarding the ID4 and ID3 and engineered it not only over it - this is the best in their class for now (well at least until tomorrow) at least as a family - company - drivers car. I have a higher budget - but this one would work for me too!

Tesla may be priced like a luxury car and try to play in that market but they are far from a luxury car, just on cabin noise alone. What Tesla has is the best charging network (in the US). Otherwise, I always say that a Tesla may be priced at about $50k or so but it’s appointed like a $15k or $20k car, in my view.

I dont think they will ever bring the ID.3 to the US - no plans its too small apparently. But the new GTI should get come over end of next year maybe? And it should be produced locally only. Also the ID.3 is falling back in terms of tech, they did not upgrade the drive train like for the ID.4 and also the interior, that speaks for a completely new ID.3 gen - probably 2025.

Looks like VW is getting their act together. Three different TH-camrs who adopted ID.4s (Olsen Family Travels, OSR Garage, & E for Electric) all ended up dumping their ID.4s for other EVs. It seems like from your review, there is a great deal more deliberation in execution and they are going to be joining the market during a time where the likes of Volvo, GM, and Hyundai Group are all looking to take a piece of the Tesla pie. I wish them well and would actually not mind getting one if we could justify another purchase (which we can't). There are so many good EVs coming out. The EX-30, the Ionic 6, the Chevy Blazer, on and on. Thx for the vid. I enjoyed watching.

I'm sure the ID.7 is a nice EV, but Yikes! $55,000 for the base model RWD, estimated, of course, and $63,000 estimated for the Pro S Plus. Compare that with the Highland Model 3 RWD, estimated, $40,000. The Highland is so updated with much better suspension too. Plus you get full access to all the Superchargers. It still seems VW is still a step behind.

    • @pine111
      @pine111 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The ID.4 is a great car, hardware wise it’s well built, very comfortable, spacious and has good range.
The issue was the software with the 2021s which I know those TH-camrs cars had, personally I think E for Electric in particular was really overly dramatic about the whole thing to get more clicks, he’s done this in the past with other companies like Tesla.
The 2022 and 2023 models with software 3.1 are a lot better, and eventually 2021s got this update but it took VW a bit too long imo.
But now that the software is pretty good the rest of the car can really shine, it was always a good car hardware wise, and with improvements in 2023 with a faster charging battery that can go up to 170kW instead of 135kW, I think it’s a great overall EV that gets a bit too much hate because of its rocky launch.

If VW doesn't get their cost of production down, they're gonna be in trouble. VW does not make profitable EVs even at their high price points. ...

Inside EV's reported that people can order the ID7 in the EU and the base rwd model is $61K USD when converted to dollars. Having almost NEVER used the power rear windows in a vehicle from the driver's seat, I'm one of the weird ones that actually appreciate the deletion of two switches I'd rarely ever use in our 2021 RWD ID4. I set the HVAC to "AUTO" and haven't touched it since so not having the capacitive temperature sliders backlit was never an issue either. We really love our V-dub but if we do any trips further than 100 miles at a stretch, we take the Tesla, the charging experience with NACS is just that much better.
Before its release here in the US, I really hope VW finally caves in and adopts NACS. Otherwise, it's just not going to do as well. Great video! Thank you!

I agree. Two button is not an issue at all for me. What is an issue is no dedicated UNLOCK button like EVERY other vehicle has. The door unlocking system is problematic for me when it comes to wanting to put something in the back seat as I get in the car and that I now have to be chivalrous and always open my wife’s door for her otherwise she stands there (in the rain) while I fiddle around trying to unlock both my and her door from my side.
I think VW, owning the CSS laddened Electrify America network, will be challenged to either abandon their network or have to recable every charger. Why is NACS better than CSS anyway other than it gives you access to the Supercharger network?

Shame on the wagon option based on sales. Owned an ICE Focus wagon and very versatile. Liked the Madza, Volvo, VW and similar wagon versions.
    Best guess for a mid high entry vehicle both rear and 4 WD with regular or longer range battery pack. $100 - $150k, $150 - $200 k, $200 - $250 k, all US $$$.
Features liked: lg 15" screen & infotainment capabilities, Heads-up display and virtual reality, response time; driving mode options, range, charging capabilities and battery management optimization, decent acceleration, lots of features included in basic trim plus maybe 2 more trim levels (sport, sport+); seat heating & cooling, many massage options; skylight options clear to l1 and l2, sound system.

This EV sounds like a hit for Volkswagen, if only they got rid of that window toggle switch thing (what were they thinking?). It also needs one peddle driving, a frunk and the NACS. But does it include a spare tire? Cars really need spare tires again at least until airless tires are perfected.
If they can fix these things, this could be my next EV. I'm on my second Tesla and I'm kind of tired of FSD, so it really doesn't mean much to me anymore. And Tesla's up and down price changes gets frustrating. Don't get me wrong I love my Tesla but change is good.

When I drove the ID.4, it had about 0.5 second delay from throttle input to maximum torque, mimicking a gas powered car, which completely undoes the benefits of having an EV. The Highland is so updated with much better suspension too. Plus you get full access to all the Superchargers. It still seems the VW is still a step behind.

With Tesla’s toque input it only requires 1 to 2 once’s of force on the steering wheel. That doesn’t require turning the wheel, you only need to rub the wheel softly. You should try it and see how lightly you can touch the wheel to get it to acknowledge your experience.
