Longsword Sparring w/my co-instructor II + Bonus (4K)

    I got some nice feedback on the recent sparring video with my co-instructor Vlado so I made one more of a session with my other instructor Andrej. Contains your favorite mirror, a little bonus and maaaybe something else than a longsword as well (spoilers down) And explicit language, PG13 :)
    Andrej is super fast and has probably the fastest (and most painful) umbschlagen I know. When fencing him, you have to be extra careful not to allow him do it.
    From a technical point of view you may notice I've upgraded to 4K. For me that means at least twice more time with editing but for you a better quality output even at full HD (for some reason YT's downgraded 4K looks better at 1080p than a native 1080p video).
    Hope you find something interesting in it!
    PS: I have a commented solo practice video coming but that will take much more time to edit than I have at the moment, so hopefully during the weekend it'll be finished :)

    And if you've seen the video - RIP Andrej's old Moc Feder, served exceptionally well for more than 2 years. We didn't have a spare feder but we had one pair of sword and buckler which we tried to use against longsword. Nothing has changed though, it's still a very uneven combination. The feder and the s&b combo are the new SIGI Forge weapons btw if you wanted to see it in action :)

    "SIGI Feder. A weapon to surpass metal (sparring) gear."
    Also amazed how explosive both of your thrusts and fast your Umbschlagen are.

    Personally I appreciate 60fps video over 4k. Because If one might rip specific video of the internet and study it frame by frame (done in Premiere pro or VLC) then one can see more fluid action and less lightsabers.
    But many thanks, Martin for all your hard work and time making these.

      TBH I have hard time watching things over 30fps, I'm a classical movie guy and I like my stuff at 24-25fps. But I shoot everything at 50 frames if I ever wanted to use a slowmo version of it. So if there's a need for it, I can just create another export :)

      @@MartinFabian I was almost sure that guy on the left (sorry, could not figure out who is who) will get a blade under his mask, and cold steel will tickle his neck. Good thing that it never happened and video is probably outdated, but gosh, you should have mask with better collar.
      P.S. I've got a blade under my mask a few times, so I know what am I talking about :D
      Really scary feeling tbh, and you feel lucky to stay alive after that, when catching the blade with your hands to stop it from thrusting

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Andrej is a big guy, so he has this problem with most masks. He wears a throat protection, there's a mask with a bib and he also wears the SPES Trinity (which I personally do not like because of the very same reasons, it's one of the worst protections). I have recieved a few thrusts underneath my mask in my life with one which was quite bad but just a bruise. Hopefully no one will get hurt badly. Good sword tip helps :)

    Silly question, but nevertheless: how is Andrej powering the umbschlag at 1:26? It looks like a moulinet to me, but he's also barely raising the hands and the tip isn't dipping much.

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a silly question, actually it's a very good question. The tip is travelling quite a distance but it's minimalistic. A lot of the power he gets is generated why weight shift (distance + height) and a correct way of making a moulinet of sorts with a Longswort. Play it at 0.25 speed, it's visible more

    Too fast an umbschlagen for the sword's own good :D It died doing what it did best though. Btw, 0:06 .. sigi showcase again! Incidentally I also tried to spar with this new S/B combo against longsword just yesterday. At first it felt like fighting a sniper rifle with a shotgun (especially when the other guy did a Geisler...), but once I figured out the closing (via tuta-coperta-like-cover) it was more even :-)

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not everything's in the video but the ration of hits of s&b against LS was like 1:20. There are like 2-3 simple strategies for the longsword guy and s&b won't do a thing. that hasn't changed in years we're occasionally sparring like this. I can imagine if the LS was shorter it would change some things but not drastically.

    • @ondrejh571
      @ondrejh571 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MartinFabian It looks like that from the video. But you probably train LS much more, than S&B (not to undermine your one-handed skills, but it probably does some difference ;-) .
