You: What swords do you use? What mask do you use? What gloves do you use? But most importantly: Where are those glorious shinguards from?? Me: (makes a video about gear)
Now we just need a video on your pre-tournament warm up routine! It might not be an issue for you, but getting over pre-fight jitters enough to warm up properly is a major hurdle for a lot of us.
I am afraid it would be a rather dissapointing one :) I don't do anything special. Just trying to get a good amount of sleep, no practice 2-3 days before the tournament and during the tournaments I just socialize and sometimes wave the sword around if I'm bored :) Maybe the only thing is I'm trying to walk around as much as I can not get stiff with my muscles. Most of the preparation happens weeks, months and years before tournaments and tournaments don't stress me once I realized it's just fun.
Uhm, despite the fact that I like the video in general being a videomaker too a really like this idea! Maybe in the far future I will take inspiration too from this work.
It makes me laugh when someone thumbs down something like this. "I don't like your gear so thumb down" haha . Good video mate. I wish I could own at least half of your gear. :)
What size is your name patch on your jacket and where did you get it from? Everywhere I look is 6x2 inches and thats to small for the back of the jacket
Nearly my exact kit except I use a rearguard mask as my club has lots of heavy hitters and I use Spes heavies as I have huge hands and sparring gloves never work for me Agree on the bicep protection on the AP light being an issue, I get the pro additions for forearm and elbow
Mr. Fabian... Can you tell us which All-Star mask you use? And, did they make it with a black bib? Thanks so much for your time and attention to my questions! You are truly an inspiring swordsman!
@@MartinFabian thank you for the reply, Mr. Fabian! And, they make a back of head protector for this mask as well? Also... What do you make of this: allstar.de/en/Mask-for-Fraternity-Fencing/PKM-L Thanks again!!!
@@GreenMachine1975 I wouldn't advise going for the fraternity mask, i see no added value plus thrusts might get stuck there. It's better if they can slide away. I'd suggest to get the regular back of the head protector from SPES, the Unity model.
@@MartinFabian Fantastic! Your thoughts confirm my own regarding the possibility that the tip of the opponent's feder could get stuck in those "bars" that run down the face of the mask. As for the protector, I'll go with SPES per your recommendation! Thank you so much Mr. Fabian! I truly appreciate all you do for our community of martial artists!
For basic training you need a sword, a mask and some gloves. You could do a controlled sparring but it's very risky. Gear is necessary for full contact sparring without limitations.
Hello Evelyn, nowadays I mostly do S&B for fun. Few years ago I studied most available S&B sources and my style is a mix of it. However I don't have much love for i33 besides using a few positions because of its fragmentary and unclear nature. I'd encourage people to work more with Liegnitzer, Marozzo and all other sources, including image only like Cluny or Durer sketchbook.
Treba si vzdy pozriet pravidla turnaja/federacne pravidla.
I don't see the Rey shins for sale anywhere in the US, dammit. They look great. I wonder if someone makes a comparable product? I haven't found it yet.
Hi! Not necessarily. There are pros and cons about it and depends what you expect. I will see what time will bring but I will continue to use them for sparring
TBH I haven't had the chance to try it on som my opinion is limited but from comparing it to my AP Light it seems it's more or less the same albeit with a different fabric.
5:00 do you have any experience with the hourglass cuffs? I'm gonna be getting sparring gloves, but I'm not sure if I should go with the classic or not.
I would strongly suggest for anyone to get the long cuff gloves. I don't see any special advantage someone could gain from the hourglass cuff. In fact you'd have to supplement the forearm protection with extra layer and you will end up plus minus the same except that for instance SPES vectir is quite stiff. When you get the long cuff, you just need the small plastic elbows and you're all done. In combo with a light jacket you will get a dexterity bonus :)
@@MartinFabian thanks for the reply. I have the pbt jacket with integrated forearm protection, which I'm thinking might be a bit annoying. Gonna see if anyone else has had issues with that combo. Also, I'm in Germany, and the ddhf rules require you to use a jacket with at least an 800n rating, otherwise I definitely would be using a light jacket.
Nechcete to zkusit?
In theory, I like what your doing, BUT too much use of the word 'product' and too much selling stuff. The reality is, it does not take this aspect of medieval sword fighting to exist. OK, probably the first vid watched, from you, but invariably it says to much of the wrong stuff regarding you. Career; bad choice again. A 'career' implies you are making this a professional money making effort, which is a real turn-off... 99.9999999% of people could not do that; and I wouldn't want too. Medieval sword fighting it an avid pastime, not something we want to feel some smuck is living from.
I'm also confused; do you wear this out and about? If not, surely it's as cost effective to just buy real armour? Surely THAT is the industry we might prefer to support?
how dare he make money off of helping run a smithing company! Also this gear is for unarmoured fencing, so using an actual harness in stead would be pointless and more expensive too

I think the main issue you have David Green is not knowing a thing about what HEMA is.
I'm sure those shin guards sales are going to skyrocket over the next fee weeks. Everyone wants what Martin has. Btw, impressive sword collection.
Wish you had listed links for the products, but I understand that was a lot
Martin's got balls of steel, that's why he don't need no groin protection.

Somewhere in Slovakia, it's both long time ago and custom made (we made an order for my school). It's about 10x20cm.
Nothing about the cups (elbow and down-below)... Biggest letdown in HEMA history...
Otherwise great and informative video as always :D

Definitely necessary, it's not bruises your are going to worry about, but breaking bones and even fatal wounds

Did you try Rearguard masks from Arming Guild ?
No, unfortunately not yet!
