    That two-hit sparring was spectacular. I guess we need more continuous sparring in HEMA.

    Lovely! Arto seems to be a very defensive fencer... until he is in your face :)

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Martin yes, compared to every fencer I fenced in my whole life, Arto is completely different. He likes to work from the bind and to approach the opponent under cover, he also haves astonishing reflexes and the ability to go from quiet to high speed in a very short amount of time.
      I learned quite a few things from him.

    • @satyrulak
      @satyrulak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I disagree, Arto is quite an agressive fighter.
      Tis easy to mistake recklessness for agression, and reckless he is not.

    Great stuff! Longsword sparring is my favorite! I particularly like the two hit sparring - one problem I have with HEMA is that they often stop fighting after one fighter scores a hit, even a light one. Makes it just a little unrealistic, where a real sword fight may very well take multiple hits to end the fight. Would love to see more of that, maybe even 3 or 4 hit sparring! Might change the game a bit

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Flint that’s true. My favorite sparring is in fact the 3 hits one.

    Wow! Brava! What a display of skill from both swordsmen. That disarm was a beautiful thing but the footwork from Federico was pure fluid. I wouldn't want to face either or you...well, yes I would. It would be an honor to lose to either of you gentlemen.

    Wonderful fencing. When you got up really close that might have been a good time for some halfswording. Again I'm a mediocre fencer just armchair generaling here but I really enjoy watching the harness fighters use their various techniques compared to blossfechten or "standard" fencing which tends to rarely use such techniques. Thanks for sharing! I wish I was half as dexterous as you guys!

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ty Larson you are right Ty, don’t underestimate you judgement. Sadly it was a very hard fight to manage and even if halfswording or stretto were sometimes the right choices, my conditioning was not enough to deal with the situations.

    I remember at the tournament Arto began to clinch, I gripped my sword as tightly as possible... and found myself holding Fama's sword.
    Meanwhile, mine flew away somewhere outside the ring.

      Vapor my voice is 0 while music is already minus 12. I made more than a hundred videos with music, maybe this one is different for reasons or the music of the track was higher than normal or simply more people is watching this particular video and there is more taste for a lower lvl of music.
      Anyway I will remember to lower music in general.

    Damn what a blow at 2:33! Very nice to see how mr Fama has no qualms about walking straight towards your point just to bind his way to a touch. Same with how he seems to not bother, gladly going high vom tag against your porta di ferro and walking towards you, when you would typically expect it to be slightly disadvantageous. Lots of control, lots of confidence displayed.
    Amusingly you seemed more at ease during the two-points part. Can I ask where does this idea comes from (if there's a specific thing anyway) ? Historically I know for instance that the French master-at-arms of the late 16th c. were expected to win consistently two consecutive points against multiple competitors, but it's a bit different than this.

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pompadour_Gagarin it’s just a way that I use to triangulate dueling. I use 1, 2 and 3 hits sparring matches. Everyone of them create different environments and different displays of tactics. Continuous fencing is also interesting too to add sometimes.
