Colored lighting in any game which uses regular RGB images as textures is impossible. In real life, instead of having 3 intensities for 3 wavelengths of light, there is a spectral power distribution for the infinitely many wavelengths of light. Colored light can just multiply the SPD of the object in white light. by the SPD of the light. To convert an SPD to an RGB value, we multiply it by 3 spectral sensitivities and integrate. This process is lossy; for almost any RGB value, there are infinitely many SPDs that produce it, called metamers. Importantly, if you have 2 colors that are metamers under one lighting condition, they may not be metamers under another lighting condition. This is called metameric failure. This is why coloured lighting is impossible if textures in RGB are used. Metameric failure does not happen if the SPDs of the lights are constant multiples of eachother, which is why simple, non colored light is possible. However, the color of an object in light given by an SPD is a linear transformation of the SPD. This means that if we have n different colored light sources, we can just have n different colored copies of each texture. This is easy(ish) if we want to take pictures of an object in real life, but hard if we want to draw the textures. Doing this is also hard on people making texture packs. This also does not extend well to having many colors of light, or to non-linear transformations. To do this, it is best to use a lot of extra information about the SPD, so that we can extrapolate. Because the human eye cannot tell apart metamers (obviously), it has similar drawbacks to using many textures per objects. A third way is to just extrapolate from the limited data to create an SPD. This tends to create bad quality results, due to the aforementioned metameric failure. However, this is what most programs use, due to the simple implementation. *In conclusion*, the few methods of making colored light work (using many more images, an image format with more channels, or extrapolate from the limited data in a single RGB image), are too complicated to implement, or sacrifice too much quality, to use in a game with perfectly good textures and a large modding community.
"All light sources everywhere emit the same color light" the sky and torches produce different color light, the sky uses a more whiter light while torches use a more warm color

People worry so much about shaders and the color of things when logically a dirt block does the same job as smooth stone. All these stupid things cause the game to lag in performance.
if you have bad device or don't know how to use mods on java it's your problem, not developer's, not adding cool little features and leading game graphics to look soulless to have 2 more fps is a terrible idea, also, they could add these features as a bedrock exclusive, which they already did a lot of times, bedrock has better graphics yet better performance even with its terrible new rendering engine directx12/render dragon, so adding different colora for different light sources wouldn't do anything to the performance but would make game look even better.
@@angel23444 >soulless I think "non-colored lighting" cant really be considered Soulless when it's been perfectly fine without for *15 years...* Also you seem to underestimate how fucked up the Lighting Engine kinda is, under the hood, or generally Java's code.
@@higueraft571 with such logic it would be "fine" if game didn't have graphics at all, game developera that care about their game improve it all the time, even small thing that people may not notice, in minecraft there is base game that looks unfinished and unchanged from beta in any way (except that some thing that were in beta are broken/nonexistent now for no reason, for example vertical bobbing) which just gets new blocks and mobs with updates, which could be added with data packs or mods, there is no new interesting gameplay mechanics, no changes that you will see and appreciate on daily basis, no new easter eggs, no optimization, and many more. and obviously they will have to rewrite lighting engine once they add colored lighting like bedrock developers did back in 1.2 which was released in 2017, and that will result in better performance and look of lighting.

But i'm sure those changes dont ACTUALLY matter in the slightest in your definition, right? :V >which could be added with data packs or mods So can literally every single thing on the planet. With this logic, they should stop adding anything that changes the gameplay itself, as Modders have ALREADY made 30 different versions you can pick and choose from... >no new easter eggs If i remember right, didnt they add a few more somewhat recently too? >and obviously they will have to rewrite lighting engine They already did recently. See 1.20
@higueraft571 I literally do pay attention to the updates, them optimizing random stuff doesn't mesn anything, gsme is still unplayable without sodium, which means no optimization, and I know that they rewritten lighting engine in 1.20 but that's likely not enough, its performance is still worse than starlight's and it's not likely that it won't need to get rewritten again to support colored lights, and 1.20 isn't update fits my criteria, random bug fixes don't mske update good, in 1.20 they just once again added stuff but didn't change base game at all, and if you're talking sbout texture changes like minecraft logo, that's not really interesting, 1.21 and 1.21.2 kinda fits criteria, since they added big salmon changes item rarity and stuff, that's pretty cool, but again that's not enough, I would like to maybe see improved lighting with morr vibrant colors, colored shadows like on bedrock, breathing animation when holding item in first person, maybe randomized grass color noise from pre 1.17.30 bedrock which so grass wont look ugly and plastix at distance but instead smooth and nice, maybe finally update hand sway which STILL doesn't get disabled when view bobbing is turned off and which looks completely unprofessional and ugly and doesn't even use clamping unlike literally any game and barely moves, they still haven't fixed vertical bobbing which is completely broken since 1.14 pre release 2 for no reason which made game feel much worse, they also still haven't fixed these hideous clouds which also cut off at distance, fixing which not only would mmake game look so much better but would also improve performance, yeah sodium did that for them, but I'm talking about vanilla, they can't even update ui and hud to be consistent, buttons are still using ugly noise on them, and they also removed blue highlight for it and replaced it with outlines, which looks worse, but also they added inconsistency which is still there to this day, literally hover arrow in resource pack screen for example and see that it's still blue, and there's much more, none of these things were added/fixed in java, and these are so obvious, but developers rather adding blocks and other easy stuff than improving base game, with some rare exceptions

That's not even talking about how we would store the light colors.
7:08 That's actually not true, you can select your language on the settings on bedrock too, I'm pretty sure in the middle of a game as well
Dude I love your videos I've been watching them for a very long time Nice video
I do appreciate your fun trivia, ibxtoycat.
"All light sources everywhere emit the same color light"
the sky and torches produce different color light, the sky uses a more whiter light while torches use a more warm color
I'm sad that some of these features never made it!
What a good week to be a ibxtoycat fan
I wish they added colored lighting :(
I never knew about the pirate speak thing, that is so cool o.O
They seriously deported an up-and-coming developer of the biggest game ever that is owned by the biggest company in the world. Swedish government has no chill
Funny dance in the beginning. XD
Actually, the Swedish AB is more like the German AG (Aktiengesellschaft), Slovenian d.d. (delniška družba), Italian s.p.a. (società per azioni), British PLC (Publicly Limited Company), and US Corporation (Inc. or Corp.).
Since you mentioned Inc, we need a second channel video on Inc, LLC, Partnerships, LP, LLP, PLLC, trust law, and how most of it traces back to the Crusades.
Mojang, please figure out a better parity system, because G. E. Apples did not have to have the woeful regen 2 on them.
I still believe the Mojang employees who quit or got laid off should work with 4J Studios or make theor own inde studio to make their own games
That cucumber does not look like a cucumber ngl 💀
That's the point lol, he got probably 5k more comments from all of y'all that insist on pointing out the obvious 😂 it's genius.
I know what you mean but honestly thats a fuckin stretch and a half
😐
wow, I’ve never been able to say toycat is yes
we really need colored torches
interesting to learn about the company history
Remember, tomorrow is the PS5 minecraft edition. Hope there is ray tracing and upscaling/ rtx/shaders
I did not think that was a cucumber at first.....UH
Is nobody gonna talk about how he IS USING A CUCUMBER AS A MICROPHONE?
It's all I could see 😭
My idea is to add new illagers into Minecraft!!
A 1000 employees and they can't add this.
It looks like you’re holding and talking into Shrek’s meat non-greenscreened, and grabbed the wrong part of Harry Potter under invisibility cloak when greenscreened.
0:25 What did Kingbdogz do?
I think they should make height limit a game rule.
it took me a while to realise that the odd gummy thing you're holding is your mic
I had life all together before this
Dude pause with holding and talking into a cucumber!
But does it really look like a cucumber
Light amniting wool?
10:24 He is, his networth is bigger than Taylor Swift's
This video reminds me o jayson blundel from Call of Duty, the guy who made BO3 zombies so fun.
They need to add shaders to Minecraft
Like a shader's button that you get shader's
Ain’t that what the RTX is
If I’m not mistaken ps5 version being released tomorrow on the 22, is supposed to have rtx. also u should be able to buy shader packs after it comes out with via add ons
the game already has shaders, that's basically how pretty much all 3d graphics work lol
@@roguearmament2920 It won't, not even the XSX version has RTX
Console will probably never get it, unless Mojang adds it as a PS5 Pro exclusive (but then again, would Microsoft allow them to do that?)
@@ShadyPaperclips then how do I download that onto my Xbox
See the thing is though at some point these could be later touched by another Developer these dont have to be made from a Single Dev that originally started it so if i was you i wouldnt use words like never i would use it may not come out but another developer could end up working on it
On the topic of colored lighting, it's so dumb that we have blue fire now but they still give yellow light like normal fire 😂 also would be so cool to have like a floodlight, or spotlight, that casts way farther than 15 blocks. Make a giant facility with floodlights along the perimeter and light everything up for a few chunks 😂 but nooo
>farther than 15 blocks.
That would probably require either Jank, or COMPLTELY redesigning Lighting as a concept from the ground up.
@@higueraft571honestly the lighting system does need to be changed
Color torches in Minecraft education edition
Wait, why is a Minecraft without KingbDogz better? Why the sudden KingbDogz hate?
Presumably:
"He's no longer a Modder, he's a Developer, and we all hate Developers, replace them with Modders instead" or something stupid like that :V
You said you were wondering if you were gay we’ll talking into a cucumber is pretty strange
Off topic: anyone know if I can get wither skeletons (thus skulls) and summon the wither on easy setting?
It’s on easy you can get it the same as normal and hard
What about the person who implemented voice chat to battle mini-games look in the battle mini game legacy settings and you will see a tab that says voice chat
Hoglin dancing 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
Doofenshmidts? lol
You might consider taking a bathroom break before recording so you're not doing the distracting gotta-go dance during the whole video. Maybe you'd sound less nervous and less rushed if you didn't spend the whole time holding it in. You think we don't notice? I work with kids. I know a gotta-go dance when I see one.
Idk why but minecraft on my phone has been very slow and idk what to do:(
Sorry but is he using a pickle or something as a mic?
Hi toycat
Notch's Herobrine
it was actually removed last update, if you'll believe it
Hello everyone
Wow I’ve never been able to say no one who commented have watched the whole video
and?
Ps5 minecraft version very soon
🎉🎉🎉
Why throw king be dog under the bus bro rude
Presumably:
"He's no longer a Modder, he's a Developer, and we all hate Developers, replace them with Modders instead" or something stupid like that :V
I don't understand why you felt the need to diss kingbdogz at the start of the video. That was just an asshole thing to do.
@all damn guys it's not a race who is first or whatever
I ahould be a Minecraft dev ao i can add all the unfinished stuff.

Um, okay I have to ask. What is the phallic shaped, colourful object in your hands throughout the video?
He literally says it's a cucumber at the start of the video
Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy?
@@angel23444 >soulless
I think "non-colored lighting" cant really be considered Soulless when it's been perfectly fine without for *15 years...*
Also you seem to underestimate how fucked up the Lighting Engine kinda is, under the hood, or generally Java's code.
@@angel23444 >no optimization
Literally OBJECTIVELY wrong. You have not paid attention to the updates in the slightest and it shows.
The latest "big" one was literally *1.20* since you seem to have willingly ignored that detail...
Actually, 1.20 seems to be an update that fits your criteria pretty well with fixing old bugs and patching the game up.
And of course 1.21 Prerelease 1 for another...
But i'm sure those changes dont ACTUALLY matter in the slightest in your definition, right? :V
>which could be added with data packs or mods
So can literally every single thing on the planet. With this logic, they should stop adding anything that changes the gameplay itself, as Modders have ALREADY made 30 different versions you can pick and choose from...
>no new easter eggs
If i remember right, didnt they add a few more somewhat recently too?
>and obviously they will have to rewrite lighting engine
They already did recently.
See 1.20
@higueraft571 I literally do pay attention to the updates, them optimizing random stuff doesn't mesn anything, gsme is still unplayable without sodium, which means no optimization, and I know that they rewritten lighting engine in 1.20 but that's likely not enough, its performance is still worse than starlight's and it's not likely that it won't need to get rewritten again to support colored lights, and 1.20 isn't update fits my criteria, random bug fixes don't mske update good, in 1.20 they just once again added stuff but didn't change base game at all, and if you're talking sbout texture changes like minecraft logo, that's not really interesting, 1.21 and 1.21.2 kinda fits criteria, since they added big salmon changes item rarity and stuff, that's pretty cool, but again that's not enough, I would like to maybe see improved lighting with morr vibrant colors, colored shadows like on bedrock, breathing animation when holding item in first person, maybe randomized grass color noise from pre 1.17.30 bedrock which so grass wont look ugly and plastix at distance but instead smooth and nice, maybe finally update hand sway which STILL doesn't get disabled when view bobbing is turned off and which looks completely unprofessional and ugly and doesn't even use clamping unlike literally any game and barely moves, they still haven't fixed vertical bobbing which is completely broken since 1.14 pre release 2 for no reason which made game feel much worse, they also still haven't fixed these hideous clouds which also cut off at distance, fixing which not only would mmake game look so much better but would also improve performance, yeah sodium did that for them, but I'm talking about vanilla, they can't even update ui and hud to be consistent, buttons are still using ugly noise on them, and they also removed blue highlight for it and replaced it with outlines, which looks worse, but also they added inconsistency which is still there to this day, literally hover arrow in resource pack screen for example and see that it's still blue, and there's much more, none of these things were added/fixed in java, and these are so obvious, but developers rather adding blocks and other easy stuff than improving base game, with some rare exceptions
Not a single word critical of Notch, just giving free advertising for his current projects and praising his accomplishments. That's kinda why we're not a big fan of this channel anymore
The video isn’t about his personality, so why would he go into detail on topics unrelated to everything else. He was just mentioned as a footnote because, you know, he _created the game_?
@@dpgwalter Instead of saying "yeah he's gone down some not great paths since then" or even just leaving it at his work on Minecraft itself, he explicitly shilled for Notch's current projects
That’s not even relevant to the main topic of the video.
How obsessed with negativity and internet drama can you be.
I’m willing to bet Toycat would be glad not to have you as a part of this channel.
Who’s we?
Not a single word critical on the Israel-Palestine conflict. That’s kinda why we’re not a big fan of thefrostychemist anymore
