    "And many of them that sleep in the DUST of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."
    - Daniel 12:2
    Joshua condemned himself, his tribe and all of Zion to this torment. Now he wanders the ruined canyon, forever removed from the sight of God. Perhaps there's some small part of him in there somewhere, and he knows that he deserves this.

    The entire story of Fallout: New Vegas is about letting go of the past, each DLC is about letting go of the past and moving on to create something better, or at least improve what was already there. Most major NPC’s have stories about needing to let go of grudges, prejudices, or past events. In OWB, The Think Tank and Morbius are all stuck living in the past, in the Old World. At Big Mountain they’re effectively trapped and forced to live in the past, forever unable to let go of the Old World. Morbius is the only one who has even slightly began to let go but even then he is stuck attempting to stop the Think Tank, also unable to let go of his past. Along with this, in Honest Hearts, Joshua Graham is unable to let go of what happened to New Canaan, and he is unable to let go of what the White Legs did there, which is why he is so adamant about wiping out the White Legs, not only to protect Zion and the tribes there but also go avenge the slaughter of New Canaan. In Lonesome Road, Ulysses is unable to let go of what happened in Hopeville, and Ashton. He is also unable to let go of his past with the Legion, and furthermore he isn’t able to let go of the Old World despite what he states, it’s clear Ulysses despite his own beliefs about himself is very much stuck in the past, which is adverse to his entire ideology so Ulysses’s as a character before being talked down (or killed) by the Courier is a contradiction. And finally, Elijah is unable to let go of the Old World, and more importantly, what happened at Helios One, by all accounts Helios was an effective massacre where Brotherhood Paladins became overwhelmed by the NCR, taking extremely heavy casualties that almost ended the entire Brotherhood Chapter. Elijah is clearly traumatized, and likely has PTSD or at the very least mental trauma from the battle at Helios as when you talk to him at the end of Dead Money, if you ask him questions, and have talked to Veronica, you gain an option to join him, and if you do so he reveals a great deal. The way he talks about Helios One is very depressing, it’s clear he’s absolutely traumatized by what happened, he talks as if he’s somewhere else entirely, as if he were speaking but his mind was back at Helios One, reliving it as he tells the Courier what happened, it’s honestly amazing voice acting and it’s very sad.
    All this to say, Fallout: New Vegas is about letting go and this Dust series is amazing, so I absolutely love tying it back into the whole “letting go” theme which I believe is the entire overarching point of the narrative. Each DLC is about letting go, all 4 faction choices for ending the game tie the concept or theme of letting go into their quest lines, in their own unique ways. Amazing work so far, keep it up! And remember: “Finding it though, that’s not the hard part. It’s letting go.”

      @grouch_gaming ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You caught on to a theory Ive had... Obsidian were coming to terms with New Vegas and its DLCs being their "last" Fallout, as well as their way of letting go of Van Buren from back in the day. What better way than to tie that into the overlying theme?

      @@armorpiercing3277 I base it off interviews with Chris Avalone and Josh Sawyer. Though Im sure my following statement extends to the majority of the Obsidian team. You can just hear the pained passion whenever they talk about it, especially during development, patching, and DLCs. Heck even now you can still taste the melancholic fondness in their voices. See it in their eyes. They didnt want to let go, so they worked as hard as they could tying letting go into the story because at the end of the day they had to let go and hand the IP back to Bethesda. Not tryna sound like a broken record, just giving the why behind the thought as Ulysses might say.

      Okay first I just wanna say that your comment is amazing and what I was going to say but a lot longer and better worded and I would like to add onto it. So as most people know there are multiple endings for the DLCs in New Vegas and I'm going to be honing in on two for Honest Hearts. Towards the end of the DLC if you've chosen to side with Joshua after battling your way through Zion and the White Legs you will come across Salt-Upon-Wounds the leader of the White Legs. And there are two choices you can make here one is to agree with Joshua that Salt-Upon-Wounds needs to die. That he poses to much of a threat to be allowed to live despite the fact that he has surrendered which ends with Joshua executing Salt-Upon-Wounds and the Dead Horses with the Sorrows butchering the White Legs. The other option ,which is dependent on speech checks, is to talk Joshua into sparing Salt-Upon-Wounds and by extension the White Legs. If your able to pass the speech checks Joshua says (and I am paraphrasing here) that "since the start of the conflict with the White Legs when he sleeps he's back at the hoover dam and all he can feel is rage and hatred. Which is how he acted as a legate and that it has started to affect him during his waking hours aswell." additionally he thanks you for talking him out of executing Salt-Upon-Wounds. So it's my theory that Dust takes place in the world where Joshua was unable to let go of the past and executed Salt-Upon-Wounds and the Dead Horses with the Sorrows hunted down and killed the White Legs. And Dust is the story of what happens when you CAN'T let go of the past and what it does to a person.

    The Brotherhood are still around, therefore it is safe to say the Courier killed Mr. House.
    I imagine the NCR’s reaction to Hoover Dam in Dust is if General Oliver got thrown from the Dam, which is the type of thing a Courier who nuked Dry Wells and The Long 15 would do. However it’s probably worth noting I’m something of a House apologist and this way House’s plan still works as it was the Courier’s deviation from the plan that made NCR brand him a terrorist in this scenario

    Joshua, who was burned, scarred, hunted, who at first only wanted the best for his followers, was turned to madness and paid for it. The sight of god had left his corner of the world and he probably knew it in his last days of being human.
    I think that if things in Dust happened slightly differently, Courier-6, who had been shot in the head, walked through an abandoned town filled with toxins, fought unspeakable horrors, would have been able to put down the Wendigo. Either from luring it into a trap and nuking it into its own fiery pit of hell or by forcing it to do battle with him, the man that went insane or barely managed to hold onto what remained of his humanity would probably stand the best chance of either surviving or killing the Wendigo

    In the base game, Joshua is a great religious story. A war criminal, forgiven by his family, baptized twice, and (depending on your decision) Someone who forgave the bastard who butchered everyone he loved. An embodiment of the values of Christianity. Redemption and forgiveness, and Zion served as a sort of untouched garden of Eden too, or the biblical setting of the middle east.
    In Dust, he's a bastardization of who he was. Joshua, the religious man he was, died and rose again.
    *"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."*
    - John 3:16
    He died, and rose again, and will live forever more. A perfect corrupted ending for someone named after a prophet who died in Canaan.
    Oh! And in the Bible, Joshua is supposed to have lead the Israelites into the promised land.
    Rose from the dead, died in the holy land, and became a demon of native American legend. Abandoned by God himself.
