At first, when Steve got the invitation to Smash, he thought that this would mean he would fight others he would otherwise never mean to fight. He had sworn on his life to not kill another sentient being like him, and this would break his vow. After his rough start of a first meeting with Mario, the cube-made man and the agile plumber both made up, and agreed to explore each other’s worlds to get to know each other better. Dire Dire Blocks was such an amazing level. I remember roaming around the blocky landscape and going into oceans trying to find the stars. It was kind of tough since the level was so massive, you could get lost trying to find your way around (and the low render distance fog on the N64 didn't help either, though it did give it some charm). I'd often come back to this level just to explore and chill out. It was just so peaceful and lovely. Definitely one of my favorite levels in Super Mario 64. It was also very terrifying at night though, those monsters and the music at night creeped me out so much as a kid. Especially with the whole Herobrine rumor thing. But once the sun came back up, it was just so peaceful and lovely again. Gosh I loved this level so much. Dire Dire Blocks will always live on as one of my favorite experiences in all of gaming. There's really nothing quite like it, especially during this era of gaming.
Hmm it sounds like you're confusing Jolly Roger Bay with Dire Dire Docks, both similar water levels that use the same song. Dire Dire Docks doesn't have any fog and any landscape to look at, it's sorta a claustrophobic level.
