I truly enjoyed the wisdom salad wryly tossed about by good friends during an afternoon of mostly unrewarded casts. The fast float under gray skys was still colorful enough for me to pack tonight's pillow with dreams of new possibilities. Thanks for not waiting for a better day.
Hero Casting! Ha Love it! I did a guide with J a few years ago. Solid guy, very fortunate to get to spend a day fishing with him. One thing I really appreciate about these videos, these two guys are the same way here as they were when I was in their shop. They don’t seem to give 2Fs about being anything but themselves, that’s a rare find these days.
Kelly and Johnny as a wise man once stated "Our troubles are behind us." Great videos as they are real and reveal what it's like to be in the boat with you two as I've been fortunate to be on in many an occasion. The hunt for the fish, the trash talk, the BS, while always being vigilant and focused if it's your turn to stand up and fish.
Great information. I can see how a still water lure angler might fall into the hauling/line shooting mistake, as they are used to doing the complete opposite of what you are. They are searching an area and you are targeting specific positions. This is maybe why myself and others find river fishing far more rewarding, even if the chance of catching is less. Many thanks.
Probably better. Lures are so realistic and fine tuned nowadays that streamer fishing cannot possibly compete. There’s still the fun of being able to tie your own flies and the challenge… Also you can switch to dry fly with the same 6wt rod , a floating line and a 12 to 16 foot leader (for discretion). All you need is another spool for your reel.
I do it all. Most my 22”+ come on streamers-I think for one simple reason: a 22+ Brown is about 6 yrs old (here in Michigan) and unless you’re fishing very untouched water, it’s seen a lot of spinners and more than a few rapalas and the action on those only has so much capacity for variance. But a streamer-especially if you tie your own and tweak the patterns, and you know how to utilize the current to affect the action of the swim-has the best chance to be unique and lifelike. There are days where a Rapala is hard to beat to cover water fast and make pie plate window target casts…and if you want to catch 100 6-12” throw a spinner every time. I am no purist-I hunt trophy trout and I’ve tried all the methods and for me, streamers have produced the biggest fish year after year.
In your books you say to switch colors every 5 minutes until you find the right color. Were these conditions or area the reason you kept fishing one or two colors unproductively ?
At the end you can see Kelly fished through a bunch of bugs. We just didn’t show it in this episode. Threw a bunch of different bugs at em and they didn’t play ball til the bitter end.
Using a 6 weight/200 grain intermediate line, what is the upper range size of streamers will you launch, compared to a 7 weight/250 grain line? Streamers I am tying never go below a size 2, and most are 4s or 6s, so I presume I am fine.
Dungeons are about as big as Kelly goes with a 6wt. Take a pretty proficient caster to throw his full size bugs on a 6wt. Plus his Streamer X 6wt is a burly 6.
@@TheSlideinn Thanks - I've got an order for a 200 grain intermediate coming your way in the next couple of days - going to pair up with a soft, antique (1986 Winston 7 weight).
Kelly you should have euro nymphed that today would have cleaned house!!!! lol No seriously what are you going to do about that elbow??? Just saying sometimes shoulder issues present in the elbow too, it happened to me thought I had tennis elbow but it was a rotator cuff injury!!! Don’t live with it get it checked out!!! Always love watching!!!
In prior videos you speak favorably of using tandem streamers, but I haven't seen you fish a tandem on the water? When would you go to tandem streamers?
Awesome content!!!! Hey, here in Wv our creeks are abundant with wild reproducing trout, especially the BROWN trout. It’s amazing their size in such small waters. Just look up Hardmans Adventure on TH-cam and look through the archives of brown trout in small creeks in West Virginia. This gives you an idea of what I’m talking about. When our creeks are rising and getting muddy, wow, hold on, the big browns will jerk the fly rod nearly out of your hands!! Thanks!!!!!
Mr galloup i see you change streamers a lot but never see you changing leaders not something you want to show i know but long does one of your short leaders last you? I tied a twist swivel on the end of my leader for a couple reasons one im not proficient with my slip knot and im not particularly fast with it.
If you go back to episode one, you will see a good streamer build. Kelly ties a new leader about 3 times on an 8 hour float. Myself (shop guy) will make a leader last a week. 20lb + 12lb maxima is super strong and can hit a few rocks and trees before it gets weak. If you feel a bunch of nics and abrasions, your probably due for a change.
Another amazing vid Kelly and Jonny!! To the ones who wine about too much talking and the barking dog, a bit of advice... Take you Greta Thurmberg magazine down in your mothers basement, and do what you do best, rub one out puzzys- If you are that fragile, go get a mask and hide for the rest of your life down there, your "mum" will love the commitment... Kelly, thank you so much for all the information, I have sponged off of your tutorials for around 30 years... I still suck most the time, but learn everyday from your videos, and some times it all comes together... It takes quite a rock star to put in the effort you and Jonny do to help out folks you likely will never meet here on youtube ... I am going to buzz up from Wyo, and get some materials from you and say hello one day soon I hope, been awhile since I touches the Madison, need a good excuse to get back up there, au the days of the Mother's day caddis hatch, such great memories... Keep the faith fellas, just like us steelhead guys says, it not about the quantity, but the quality...

Johnnie is the man! Fishing with him will elevate your game like you can not believe.
Really enjoy these vids! Kelly's approach to fly fishing streamers got me excited about it after getting bored with drifting nymphs and dry flies
I look forward to getting those TH-cam notifications that the Slide Inn has posted a video. Very Informative and never dull. Thanks guys!
It’s great to see even legends get humbled. Solid work guys. Jonnie doesn’t just work hard for Kelly from experience he does it for his clients
Funny, Johnny says at the beginning that he would start with Olive, and Kelly pulls out black. Classic Kelly
Thank you Kelly and Johnnie for another video. Please keep them going.
These vids are gold, full of very practical info & entertaining. Would love to see a small water streamer vid.
"Dont be a statistic" Top shelf banter with you guys. Thanks for another good video fellas.
Another great informative video. The diagrams and graphics help immensely. Thank you.

Thanks for all the tips and taking the time to post.... !
ill fish whatever Johnnie tells me to. Johnnie "anything olive" Kelly trying on a black dungeon. You guys are great!
The intro music always reminds me of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean .i like it.
Johnny is a real person!!!!!!!!! 🤙🙂🏴
So helpful. That Mad River guy introduced me to your channel. He's a little... funny but sometimes he hits gold.

My favorite channel on TH-cam. Thank you!
I love how cheeky this guide is to Kelly, he's like yeah you might be famous but im better lol, he must have known him for a long time.
Would love to finally see Johnny fish streamers on an episode! I mean the guy prob throws more streamers than most people combined. Just an idea 🤙
Agreed! Lets have Johnny on the front of the boat for the next one!
Love that river. Last time I was there I saw a baby moose with mama right about that same spot.
Nothing better than cracking beers and watching Kelly fish on a Friday night
Hey Gang, 10 episodes deep! Keep them coming.
Great video! Love seeing some Johnny
Hey y’all☕️☕️
Good content as always, and amazing shot of the moose and eagles.
As much as I love to streamer fish, I sometimes wonder how a guy with a panther martin or rapala would do behind me

Use much bigger “Rapalas “ and alternate brands: the lures can be very different from one brand to another.
Love your videos - lots of tips and info - I need someone to row my boat so I can fish 😉 - Keep it up - hope the elbow gets better
What do you think of the integrated skagit heads (OPST or SA) + sink tips for streamer fishing ?
Much love from Bulgaria!
Are there any exercises or anything you can do to help avoid that grip failure. Throughout the day?
That's fishing - thank goodness!
Love the banter 😅
Aluminum bars on the boots and in a fiberglass boat?
Rubber mats
What is the model drift boat are you in?
I’ve laid more line down in this town than Madison electric; Kelly Galloup.

This is the US of A , they’ll probably amputate: cheaper so he won’t have to sell his shop 🤫

Golfers elbow... the struggle is real.

Sarcasm is so underrated 😂
Always backrow for your boys
What knot are you using?
Barbs on streamers or barbless?

“God I admire you”
Frieda’s Boss
remember to take your magazine with you when you go to "touch the Madison" - or whatever you call it
This guy begs for attention
