    Hi Kelly , there an old gillie i know personally here in Scotland he's nearly 80 years young and he fishes that way for sea trout in the saltwater, I have learned so much from watching him , that wee jerk can be the difference big time , anytime I've tried it they nearly rip the rod from my hand they hit it that hard ..👍

    I’ve fished with Shaw. This is the first time I’ve seen a fly fishing video that recognized the skill level of pro level bass anglers. They have bass tournaments on live and it’s very clear who you should be looking to for knowledge. I’m relatively new to fly fishing and it’s hard to quantify the skill of the hosts. Informative video. Presentation is everything!

    Kelly having come to fly fishing from a lifetime of spin fishing both fresh and salt your techniques make so much sense. While spin fishing, I would never think of animating the baits with turning the handle on the reel, it’s all about the rod. Thanks for sharing your insights.

    Thank you. Working this on the White River, in Arkansas. I’ll let you know. I’ve been using this same movement tactic with a 4 inch Floating Rebel, for Bass, for 60 years. Now, I’ve moved into Brown Trout Country. I’ve always let the rod do my bidding. Ill keep you posted.

    Thanks Kelly… The old boys from BASS taught us all well and introducing these techniques to streamer fishing makes perfect sense….I will say I think part of it is fly selection and your saying your flies don’t matter is like saying a tube jig didn’t matter to the BASS pros like Shaw Grigsby or Larry Nixon or Kevin Van Dam.
    You make me want to get better at streamer fishing even though I only fish from shore and not in a boat. You are the GOAT IMO at Streamer Fly Fishing. Thanks for all your great advice🎣

    Kelly, thank you for the content. What does this information and knowledge mean to me?
    With a Career, small family, religious service and a busy life, fishing isn’t at the top of the priority list. The few times I get to get out on the river, I want to make the most of the precious time I’m taking. Your insight and wisdom put the final piece of balance I need to have success and happiness. Keep it coming!!

    This is so awesome and helpful! I'm very new to fly fishing, and I immediately had a "habit" of moving/jigging my rod to move the fly. When I had some fly casting instruction from my local fly shop...the guy kept yelling "NEVER us the rod to induce action to the fly...the line makes the fly action!" I'm glad I never broke my "habit!" And...maybe need to find a new fly shop! LOL

    72 yrs old and damn, I've always retrieved streamers this way. Rod first, strip second. I never knew it had a name. It's intuitive, really. To paraphrase the immortal Chico Escuela, "Kip you hand togedda"

    That's the key to a successful fisherman, I also spin fish, my reel is only used to bring in the excess line, my tip, rod movement is the key, many say the ultimate is seeing a fish rise for a dry fly. How about seeing the fish go after its prey under water, of course you need the glasses, that's more fun to me!! I'm going to use this tip in my streamer fishing too. Thanks Kelly

    Kelly you have excellent details contrasts. I tried a new rig last Saturday stripping stonefly and pheasant tail dropper testing rod tip swimming movements and your rod positions tip movements per cast and hand strips pits it all together.Exciting you break bad habit practicing and focus instinct to master. Thank you friend for sharing tight lines.

    If your stripping hand always picks up the slack, how are you going to feel the tug with your hand? If you are feeling the tug with your rod, then how is this different than gear fishing?

    • @irideaduck939
      @irideaduck939 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not feeling with your hand or rod, you visually see the fish slam the fly.

    • @self-taught_angler
      @self-taught_angler 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@irideaduck939 Then, it is even worse.
      1) 95% of the cases the fish take the streamer far away that one cannot see.
      2) If you are watching the line to set the hook, then it is no different than bobber fishing which I refuse to fish.
