    When Axl rose (lead singer) first came to LA to pursue his music career, someone yelled to him as he exited the bus, "you know where you are, you're in the jungle baby, you're gonna DIEEEEEE." That was the inspiration for this song.

    I've always been a HUGE GNR fan - Slash is up there as one of the best guitarists EVER. Axel's voice at its peak? Second to none! They all had their personal issues but they will always be one of the GOATS of Rock bands imo! For a fast paced song of theirs as well? You could be mine. A slower pace? Don't cry. And a deep pace? Civil war.

    • @jamiemiller6156
      @jamiemiller6156 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Guns always ran along that razor blade between great and completely out of control. Amazing rhythms, underrated songwriting, Axel's unique voice and Slash's lead work had more vocal qualities than the shredders of the day. Twenty five years later and they still dominate the rock radio stations where, unlike other bands, they routinely play 5-7 songs instead of the same two you hear from most everyone else.

    • @silverdoeGirl
      @silverdoeGirl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamiemiller6156 Its ironic that in some countries they were band from doing concerts because the crowds got that out of control. I get it but it still blows my mind that despite that they still dominate as well. For good reason. They proved at the time they didn't need concerts to be as big as they became. I hope that makes sense!

    Axl Rose lead singer. Hard to believe he is now 60. Time waits for no one. If you don't die, you WILL get older, and no one should kid themselves about that. I am 62. When I was much younger I was only mind aware that I would get older. As the years go by, you become more EMOTIONALLY aware of your mortality. Slash is now 57.

    Basically Guns N' Roses' “Welcome to the Jungle” draws a parallel between the “jungle” - a harsh, lawless environment - and city life. More specifically, the city it is considered to be referring to is Los Angeles, California. Los Angeles is a place that many people migrate to in search of stardom and fortune...according to song meanings and facts anyway

    Guns N' Roses in their heyday only lasted a few years (1986 to 1993) ... 'Welcome to the jungle' was W. Axl Rose (lead vocals) talking about arriving in L.A. from his home state of Indiana in the 80's - apparently when he got off the bus, a homeless guy told him, "You're in the jungle, baby! U gonna die!" 🤣
    W. Axl Rose arrived in L.A. and hooked up w/ his friend, guitarist Izzy Stradlin to form a band... Living in Hollywood, they eventually teamed up w/ L.A. Guns guitarist Tracii Guns in 1985 and decided to rename the band Guns N' Roses... By 1986, Axl fired Tracii Guns; he wanted Slash to play lead guitar w/ Steven Adler (drums) and Duff McKagan (bass)... Despite their popularity in L.A, Guns N' Roses were trouble - always fighting, always hooked on drugs, always drinking, always partying... but the band was finally signed in '86 to Geffen Records.
    They released their debut album 'Appetite for destruction' in 1987, and when MTV played 'Welcome to the jungle', Guns N' Roses suddenly went from nobody to the #1 band in the world by 1988... the album has since sold 18 million copies in the US alone. That year, the band released the EP 'GNR Lies'... which sold 2 million copies and showcased guns' acoustic side, but also became controversial after Axl used derogatory language against gays and minorities in a song.
    Despite their success, Guns were mired in excess... and by 1990, as they started recording new music, Steven Adler (drums) was fired, being too messed up on drugs to play in the studio... Matt Sorum (drums) joined and Guns tracked 2 albums worth of songs that would become 'Use your illusion' Vol. 1 & II, released in 1991 and each selling 7 million copies in the US.
    Slash also collaborated w/ Michael Jackson, playing on the tracks 'Black or white' and 'Give in to me' and performed w/ M.J. as well.
    Touring heavily for 'Use your illusion' from 1991, Guns also hired Dizzy Reed (keyboards/ percussion), but Axl's tardiness and the band's infighting caused disastrous incidents, including a riot in St. Louis... Izzy Stradlin (guitar) left the band in late '91 and was replaced on tour by guitarist Gilby Clarke... A stadium tour in 1992 w/ Metallica was fraught w/ problems and resulted in another riot in Montreal after Guns cut their set short (Metallica's James Hetfield had been burned prior in an onstage pyro mishap, which ended their set).
    At the end of the tour in 1993, Guns released a covers album 'The spaghetti incident?' which marked the band's decline, selling 1 million copies.
    Guns slowly imploded as the band members found it impossible to work together anymore by 1995... Gilby Clarke, Matt Sorum and Slash were all fired by 1996... Duff McKagan left soon after. Axl tried to put a new Guns N' Roses together and record a new album, but delays and issues would take years... eventually, Axl released 'Chinese democracy' (despite no other original Guns members playing on the album) in 2008.
    In 2016, Axl Rose finally reconciled w/ Slash & Duff McKagan and announced the reunion tour, dubbed 'Not in this lifetime'... but no new music has been recorded since.

    This was sooo much fun watching you guys react to G&R! You are genuinely music lovers, very insightful, and quite entertaining! As a life long rocker, although I listen to all kinds of music, am so bored with current music that I have to watch others react to my favorite songs. There's such a lack of originality today or maybe I'm just getting old....thank you for an enjoyable few minutes! Rock on!

    This song is written about my hometown of Hollywood, California! I think you guys are listening to some amazing rock music, and I love that you are getting an appreciation for different types of music. I’m 59 now, but I clearly remember when Guns and Roses first came on to the music scene. In the 80’s we used to frequent the Roxy, Gazzari’s, and the other rock clubs that were on the Sunset Strip!

    The band was formed in L.A. although Slash was born in the U.K., he grew up in L.A. and the band got its name by combining two of its original members, singer Axl Rose and guitarist Tracii Guns. Tracii would leave the band to form L.A. Guns Slash would replace Tracii as lead guitarist.
