More awesome action by JT. Having a busy crossing next to a grain silo and then having a grain train spotting cars for loading can cause headaches for drivers, especially during rush hour. I m with Scott that was the slowest train I ever saw. Cool location as well, too bad that Hardee’s didn’t have tables and chairs out there that would’ve been perfect. Love Norfie and Chessie, what a pair. Thanks for sharing JT. You and Scott take care.
The strain of the pain caused by the train trying to spot the grain. I've seen numerous towns in Iowa where the elevator puts up barricades when grain trains are loading so that motorists know to detour. Looks like Hardees got a special on used ties as they separate their lawn from the NS ROW. This scene brings a personal touch of sadness in that the last of three large malt operations in West Milwaukee has closed and will be demolished. From when I was a small child you could hear the freight cars being coupled as well as the constant drone of conveyor belts and electric motors turning the piles of roasting malt. Also the perpetual odors wafting thru the neighborhood that was like a mixture of cereal and the occasional scorched batch. The CNW Alcos and MILW FMs tackled the switching 24 hours a day and now CPs largest customer in town is leaving. When demolished The Neighbors will actually see a regular sunset that wasn't blocked by 3:00 p.m. by the silos. So goodbye old friend and we'll miss the sign facing Lincoln Avenue that proudly proclaimed for years. "Better Beer. 🍺 Starts Here" Thanks for capturing the spirit of grain season JT
Wow, I know almost exactly what you mean. That was an awesome comment! I can actually picture it and it brings back memories . I will look that up on Google Maps. Thanks Paul. It reminds me of similar scenes in my areas
@@JawTooth there's some. Nice old b&w photos of its humble start and then post WW2 expansion. Froedtert Malt. The 2 roads probably had 250 to 300 cars daily on 3 miles of track and soon will be forUP & CP interchange only. Thanks for reading. Im sure you looked back on the print of the steam excursion you showed recently and look at all that has disappeared
Good, light, old-fashioned, 1930s Laurel and Hardee's or Hardy's comedy routine this video, Señor Jaws. Way to lighten up the long delay. Good one. Gracias por tu video. Thanks for colorizing it, too. RT sends, Puebla, México...
Great video JT catching the conductor cutting the last cars. Really interesting and similar to our cane trains in season that also regularly block the main highway when loading..
I'm sure there was some frustrated people in that line of traffic. You could get a buy one get one for a dollar burger at Hardee's and enjoy the train lol. Great video!
Happy Sunday morning to you from Miami, Florida +Jaw tooth and awesome catches and also with the first train departing and have yourself a safe Sunday and a rest of a good week ahead and keep up the awesome work that you do on these train videos!!
Hey Jaw Tooth. Jeez, that train is creeping into town. That's one long grain train. You get a real good look at the graffiti on them. Nice Hobo tags! I bet all the drivers were happy after they moved. Funny horn on the MOW equipment. Its a MOW parade!! Haha The excavator was cool. Hey Chessie!! Norfie is napping the day away as usual! Thanks again for the awesome video!
At first, I really was not sure what that track was for, but, when I saw the grain elevators and the filling spout, I knew what was going on and why the train was going so slow... 😄 It was loading the cars. Great shots! Chessie really adores her papa. Our furry friends are gifts God gives us. He blesses us with family and companion friends. ✝️♥️🐈🐕 The rain in Spain falls mainly on the grain train: but does not cause pain gain.
I love it that you seem to have a knack for getting footage of trains where one can easily read all the registration stuff on the side of the wagons. Your video in La Grange was really good for this, too! Well done!
JT! Awesome videos. My dad and I used to drive down to the tracks and train spot. 55 years ago! Thanks for jogging the great memories! This video would have been perfect to get some closeups of the wheels, suspension, linkages (especially at start or stop), etc... Thanks Again!
Slooooooooooooow moving train... hope no one had a doctors appointment. I didn't think those track equipment cars put the gates down, they usually stop for traffic instead... cool. Awesome switching video !! 👍👍👍
I have to admit, that is the longest wait time I have ever witnessed just waiting for a train to clear a crossing! Of course, in Maine, where I worked for the Maine Central Railroad, the only grain silos I saw were at a couple of grain dealers, using the silos to sell grain to farmers! We would deliver railroad grain hopper cars to those few trackside silos!
Wow, lots of cool live action going on. Those track maintenance vehicles were cool. I caught a glimpse of grain cars that had been spotted on one Cargill siding. Model railroaders would probably enjoy seeing some photos of the Cargill plant for modeling ideas. Its pretty cool especially with the two sidings.
It's amazing what the railroads use for power when it comes to switching nowdays. On the Milwaukee Road a local scoot would bring up the loads at the beginning of the week and a patrol crew would pick up all the empties and dead engines at the end of the week. The scoot power was usually one of the FM switchers or a barely functional GP7 but even F units were used. Once they used an F7 B unit with the engineer operating from the hostlers position! Thanks for some good switching action.
Thanks for this video! From shortly before rush hour to shortly after, there should be another set of gates that go down ACROSS the tracks to keep trains off the road crossings.
With a sister in the bottom left side of Michigan, I used to go through Circleville as a route from the Carolinas to her.. (77 north, then diagonal in West VA, and up 35 to 23 to loop to the left at Columbus.. to head over on 30 or 20 eventually. There used to be a BUNCH of additional track and industrial areas in Circleville...The last RCA TV set plant was south of the city.
Awesome Jaw Tooth and a good video and watching enjoying the video and little slow 🐌 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😃😎❤ and I enjoying watching the side show too 😀 😃❤ again awesome video Jaw Tooth
Great catch of that MASSIVE Grain Train to be spotted at the grain mill! It's a shame it blocked rush hour traffic but that happens lol. It was definitely great for railfanning to get an up close look! That MOW equipment was rolling through there and a great catch of that too! Thanks again JT for some great footage!
The new closed malt plant in town was frequently switched at 2:00 a.m. you should have seen how many autos struck the train or threw items at the locomotive or switchmen was astounding. Also numerous drunks fell asleep at the wheel waiting for it to finish switching and then sat there until someone woke them up
I was hoping to see the rail date on that old track the train was using...and it would have been a good one to see how much of a shine it picked up as I bet it doesn't see much traffic.
The crew took its time moving the train of covered hopper cars to get it to the point where they were going to cut the train. I would have thought that they could have moved the train faster. After they cut the cars, they could have moved slower once they were across the street crossing to the switch, they were going to use to spot the cars. They know what they are doing and how to do their job the best and safest way. I just watch what they are doing and marvel at what they do. Nice catch of this train in Circleville, Ohio, Jaw Tooth!

Great vid. I enjoyed the grain train, view of the silos and the MOW racing by. Someday I would love to see the silos with the sun directly on them. My layout will be a shortline with at least one silo / grain action.
I live in Circleville. This is a fairly common occurrence. Sure gets a lot of people bent out of shape. I don't mind too much, as I enjoy the trains. Other than these grain trains though we do get plenty of trains. Intermodel and manifest trains are common on this line as well. I'd say we get at least 10 trains a day. I remeber one day a few weeks back we got 6 trains in an hour and half. That would've made one heck of a good video
Other comments have suggested that it was the poor condition of the track, and that would be a common cause for such glacial progress being made... Pete C., in NH, USA
I am a BIG Railfan ! That being said, railroads can, and do disrupt vehicle traffic whenever they please quite often. Many times, their switching and car placement moves seem to take forever, appearing to be made to intentionally piss off motorists waiting at the crossings.

Surprised you didn't have the tripod.
That was a long one but the longest that I have filmed holding a camera without stopping is just a little over 20 minutes in Hamilton
@@joycegriesing3248 I have one that I usually use, but this train was about to move when we pulled in so I left it in the car and started running! 😂
