    I counted 16 grain cars and 2 railroad ties and 20 rock hoppers. Now, that's a HEAVY train!
    I had to look twice to make sure of the count. Great train and outstanding video, sir!

    Now that’s what I call awesome, this shortline really puts on a show. These crews really earn their money. I sure would’ve liked to have seen this line under NS and N&W ownership. The fact that they had to double the hill splitting up their train indicates how steep that hill is. Nice to see, although not in service, an old N&W CPL signal still standing. Your right, this is your best shortline video ever. The CCET is an awesome short line. Thanks JT.

    Thanks, J.T. I love to see how the story ends. You tell us a lot of what the conductors need to do. But in this case, my hat is off to the engineer who had to, not once, but twice, start out from a dead stop, pulling that heavy load up hill, without a wheel slip. That takes a very skilled hand on the throttle!

    Hey, When I was a Police Officer I use to help out Csx and Kcs . Behind my house where I use to live was Csx tracks that went from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa and to the Mines . It was a 7% grade they would have to cut the Trains sometimes . They would call me to help out. I would give the crew rides . I always liked them crew packs and the bottle waters they had on the Engines . There was a crossing right behind my house and they would call me and tell me they left some stuff at the crossing for me. Those where some Awesome times .

    nice catch. reminded me of the time when i was kid, a Chicago and Northwestern train stalled by where i lived. the engineer was a nice guy. i asked him how much weight he was pulling. it was around 10,000 tons. this was a couple of years before the UP took it over. i wish i could remember what the locomotives were.

    • @thomasmleahy6218
      @thomasmleahy6218 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may have known that hogger, was it in Chicago, or the suburbs? When I started there in the early 70s, we'd get a job to deliver loaded gons to the IHB RR on the night shift and would usually stall and need a shove up the steep hill from the east end of yard 4, having to wait a half hour or more for the shove from another yard job.Location wise that was just west of Lake street and 25th Ave Melrose Park.
      Good video, JT, I could hear the wheel slip happening on that 2nd pull at about 22:30. You'd think they'd let them have a back to back consist instead of them traveling bass ackwards long hood leading across all those road x-ings. Must be a heck of a grade to strain 2 locos with those short cuts.

    Nice video of this heavy Cincinnati Eastern train having trouble making it up steep grade in Williamsburg, Ohio, Jaw Tooth! The two engines were working hard to get the loaded stone hopper cars up the grade. The lady who backed her car behind the gate before it came down did not have to go through that maneuver. She could have easily driven across the tracks before the train arrived at the crossing. Moe than likely she thought that the train was moving faster than it was moving so she opted to back up behind the gate. I am glad that you caught this train before Daylight Saving Time ended so that y capture the doubling of the steep grade in Williamsburg, Ohio.

      Or paranoid that a cop would see her cross against the active crossing lights. I was a passenger in a friend's car in Chicago Heights, Ill. a long time ago and we came to a RR crossing. He slowed down before the crossing and we were about 30 feet from the tracks when the crossing lights came on and you could see the train was still a distance away. He locked it down right there and backed up to avoid the barricade arm that was dropping while the car behind us hit the left lane and flew past us and crossed the tracks. I said "Wow man, you had plenty of time to get across. What's up with you?" He said "My dad had this happen to him here once and he went on and crossed the tracks. A city cop a couple of cars back saw him and the cop pulled out and ran the crossing lights himself to stop my dad and write him a $500 ticket, so yeah I'm not gonna take that chance."

    • @thomasmackowiak
      @thomasmackowiak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@larrywalker7759Wow! That was a hefty fine for crossing the tracks in the Heights. In the past I have seen a lot of cars go around the gates at Park/Lincoln Avenue in Dalton, Illinois. I never saw a Dolton Police car pursue anyone for going around the gates even though the Dolton Police Department is right there.

    • @larrywalker7759
      @larrywalker7759 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasmackowiak The incident where I was in the car with my friend happened around 1990. I am not sure if we were actually still in Chicago Heights proper but he and his family lived in Chicago Heights. As to the veracity of his story all I can say is that was what he told me. He also told me that if you ran out of gas on the freeways in Chicago that you would pay a $500 fine and your car would be towed. Maybe this was just his style of embellishing stories or something but I had no reason to think he was not telling the truth.
      I know that nowadays in highway construction work zones we see signs warning a $500 fine for speeding.

    That Mt. Orab Porta-Potty probably has a lot of train movement stories to tell. We set our clocks back two weeks ago. I guess that explains the lighting difference. We are on Central Standard Time. Those CCET locomotives sure are looking 'swell'. Golly. Hey! Señor Jaws. Whose fault is the stall? I lost my sunny-side up eggs for breakfast here. Had to flip 'em and go fried. Now that means putting jam on my buttered yoke-dipping toast. Breakfast potato patty is kinda crispy in my deep frier. Needless to say, the bacon is cold. But, you did warn us in the title. It's on me, isn't it? Bad day all around for the CCET, Williamsburg and Puebla, México El RobBreakfast (Desayuno). Anyway, gracias por tu video. RT sends...

      Maybe they should've at least kept the old IMRL SD45-2 that used to be on the CCET.

    I Love that Color scheme on those Locamotives. We also have a new Excursion in Stanton Va. Our First. I have heard they trying to acquire a 4 -8 -4 Baldwin or Southern Made Steam Engines to pull in the future. Totally Awesome. The Trips are staying Full up right now you can't even get a ticket for it . One route uses the old Ivy hill Tunnel near Charlottesville Va. Off old route 60. Check it out when you can.

    It has been some time since your train dog 🐕 has been riding in your truck. Is Cheesie OK? Great video, Jaw Tooth 😍 👍

      Yes, thanks, she is fine. I take her on rides a lot but not as much when I film trains because she gets so excited that it makes it difficult for me to film

    Cool signal tower 😊. You can tell it's old. Surely the dispatcher knew the weight of the train prior to picking it up. You'd think they would have sent a DPU also knowing the terrain.. 😮

    Great catch of the CET SD40 and GP15 pulling a HEFTY consist of cars! Its unbelievable how the slightest grade can affect a train to make it stall. But when pulling Grain and Stones and you roughly figure every 5 cars is a Million lbs will certainly make a locomotive struggle. Nice job as always JT and always enjoy seeing the CET short line railroad working hard! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware my friend.

      @∈ x ∈ the SD40 has 6 axels and the GP15 has only 4 and of course its shorter. When pulling a consist of cars the SD40 will always be the lead locomotive.
