I have noticed a lot more open boxcars (usually just one) on many trains since Shoestring died. It is nice to think it is in honor of him. TY for your videos.
I'm 73 years old and think there is nothing more historically nostalgic than railroad tracks, even railways where there are no tracks any longer. I'm from Columbus, Oh. On the north side of town (Kinnear and Kenny Roads, to be exact), 40 years ago there were a couple of railroad spurs that traveled up near some suburban neighbors. The spurs are now long rows of brushy lanes. Where the rails crossed, the rails were removed, the roadway patched. Now those streets have been resurfaced so that there are slight, almost unnoticeable dips at the location of the rail crossings.
Bless you and Family, pets too Jaw Tooth thanks for exploring old rail and history! Shoestring will be forever missed! A heartbroken Fan. Glad that you always remember and mention the Shoestring! Been binge watching his channel, not shure how long it will stay up on Utube? But enjoy it while we can

Nice view of the train coming around the corner. I like the abandon sidings and the information about them. I like to think of the days when they were used and when people thought they always would be.
Cool, thanks. I wish I could go back in the day and see it. It reminds me of when I lived in Morehead,Kentucky and watched the trains there everyday. Now, there is no sign that the trains were ever there
My hometown. My dad remembers that spur in use. Where it connects to the NS line there used to be a nice train station (currently storage units). Both sides on the mainline had long awnings. I've seen many pictures of it that my dad took. When I was growing up,there was an old train car that was a resturant called the Choo Choo Inn to the left of the train station. The house at the end of the video is The Octagon House. It used to sit where the strip mall is beside Wal-Mart. It was the M.M. Crites farm. A good friend from school lived there. Great place for parties. Very unique house.
I LOVE checking out abandoned lines and stuff. Love the history of better times in America on the railways especially. Excellent video once again, sir! God bless my friend. 💙🛤🚂💙

Definitely the type of town that just gets one more and more interested in the track layout that is just steeped in history. The old Rail and switches plus businesses no longer in operation speaker of days when business was brisk here. That elevator definitely was massive for its day and the only reason it's still standing it's just a drag to tear it down with all that thick concrete and rebar. Then later on you're down with that four track mini yard and the switches where it goes onto a concrete loading platform just makes this town a natural winner for exploration so thanks for covering the rusty rails
hey paul are they done tearing down the old froedert malt elevator over at the belt... that whole area is slowly disappearing from a railroad aspect... mitchel yard looks defunct, wouldn't surprise me if they pull the tracks outta there as well
@@25mfd they actually got the plant torn down by mid-october which surprised me all done by Wrecking Ball. There are still mountains of processed concrete into gravel on site however but I think all the metal is gone now. It just looks so strange to see it gone from the skyline in fact the one Clinic I go to you would see it from their fifth Story window and all the sudden there is nothing there anymore. It's very peculiar also that the most common car start at Mitchell yard are covered hoppers including former CNW malt cars as if to give a final salute. At the grade crossings it looked odd during the winter to see the snow heaped up on the rails undisturbed for up to a week at a time and now you look at them they're just two rusty streaks. There probably isn't more than one interchange move a week. Komatsu has some production transferred now to the facility on Greenfield Avenue but still must have some stuff at National Avenue yet but I suspect they will be out by the end of summer. There still is track work to be done at the new site but contrary to early drawings they are not putting a connection in to the Old Milwaukee Road main line pretty much where the old connection used to be. Hi JT, Very interesting video, great 5 track crossing with the spurs & abandoned track.A real hotspot area back in the day such a shame when tracks become disused. In the UK we have loads of abandoned track & tunnels i watch all the video's that go exploring them & learn about the history they are so interesting. Caught some great trains in Circleville JT, Big hugs for your pets. Lovely pic of Shoestring bless him 🐕🦮🐕🦺🐈⬛❤😊👍
I wish I could’ve seen these rail spurs in action back when business was good. Circleville , Ohio another cool place for train watching. You’ve done it again JT.
That was a main line for Penn Central RR. It went west of Circleville, under US23 the CSX RR crossed the Scioto River, threw Kinderhook, Williamsport, Atlanta, New Holland crossed route U22 west of New Holland into Washington Courthouse. There was a VI Tower that watched the Dimond crossing on Court St in Circleville. It was destroyed in a massive coal train wreck at that crossing in the 70s. You can find some historical pictures of the VI Tower in Circleville a then and now from the 40s.
Coal train wreck was May of 1978, northbound towards Columbus, lead unit rolled over on the curve right there just past S. Court St. All the coal cars piled up behind the derailed loco, totally shutting down Court St. with a mountain of coal and twisted steel. Literally, about 45 minutes ago, I found the photo I took of the smashed lead unit after they stood it back up on the rails. It's a shot of the nose, NW loco, I cannot see any number on the side, and the damaged back-lit number on the top looks like 3 digits, ?00 - unsure of the first number, could be "6" or "8". If my guess at the number is right, it may be an EMD GP9.
Wow! Those abandoned tracks were laid in 1941. Not even my dad was alive back then. Those tracks have seen so very many of the biggest events of the 20th Century and continue now in the 21st. Thanks for the nostalgia. Great video as always, Jaw Tooth. Anthony.
JT that must’ve been a pretty thriving railroad town at one time with all of those tracks but anyway, my friend another awesome video and I like when you do the history of a town like that and showed a different tracks running all over that just shows you that at one time that town was busy but you stay safe out there my friend and as always watch your back and we’ll catch you on the next one
Oh, and another thing you was talking about that open door on that box car right behind the engine and you said shoestring wouldn’t ride it but heck he can ride any car he wants now most probably he was sitting in that second locomotive waving at you when it went by I sure do miss those shoe string and I didn’t even know the man except through his videos. Sure would’ve loved to sit around a hobo campfire with him and listen to all of his train stories because I bet you would’ve sit there all night just to hear half of them.
Always nice to see the old grain elevators and good footage, like hearing those Nathan K5LLA air horns that was on the EMD SD70ACE, old rail for sure, nice shot of local with EMD power with cool 😎 Leslie RS-5T air horn!🛤🚂

There's jerks all around pulling pranks in this world. Loved the double stack train.uou have a beautiful place Mr JT. Your pets are so lucky to have all that free space to run. The one line was the former Penn Central (PRR) Cincinnati and Muskingum Valley abandoned March 31st, 1976 . N&W picked up the remaining Circleville customers.
I really like that old history and the old spurs. The first one did you get a roll date?,, the one you got 1941,the 47,,that's so cool..there's your house Brian! Lol.. door by the tracks. We had alot back when I was a kid in our town. Most gone now😒 we had grain elevators, flour mill that's still there!! There could be a leftover spur in there. Also was the Gebhard brewery in Morris Part of a spur to the old paper mill here. It was so cool I saw a switch engine run between the Illinois river and i and m canal which is now a towpark path from Chicago to at least Utica IL. I wonder if there's anything on our old flour mill and Gebhard brewery around late 1800s on Google ..Great shot Brian on that train coming at us on the curve.. Great history there!👍be safe✝️thankyou for your time and videoes with always a thumbs up.
That switch stand you wanted. Although nobody would miss it but to be on the up and up, find out who's land it is, maybe they will let you have it. Just ac thought. Love the seeing old tracks to nowhere and old buildings! Just so groovy. Awesome video Brian stay well roll on.
Yes the grain elevator years ago was owned by a few companies. It burned down in 2008 and was supposed to be rebuilt, but everything then pretty much moved out of Circleville and so it sits there abandoned.
So Jawtooth, was that your snap shot of you at the end of the video? When you were a kid? Great video, love seeing those old abandoned tracks. Makes you wonder why they are still there and if anyone owns them.
Yes, that was me about 20 years ago with my son. The old days lol. I know a lot of places where there are abandoned railroads that will slowly disappear. I wish I could have seen them in use
At one time there was a diamond there. tracks on the north end went to Lancaster and the other way to Washington Court house. serviced by Penn Central.
That track at one time went from Lancaster Ohio to Washington Court house. The grain elevator there was for Purina dog food, and the track on the north side also had a train depot there up till a few years ago
Cool, thanks for the info! I wish the train depot was still there. I remember seeing a picture of a depot on an abandoned train depot site and wondered where in Circleville it was
Your comment actually got me going to the "way back research" so I looked in the 1962 official guide and this line went from Trinway to Morrow and short of Washington Courthouse I didn't recognize any of the city names as they're all small towns. It's claim to fame was apparently to be the cutoff to Cincinnati. We had one here in Wisconsin that was built late and abandoned early as it was a cut-off for a number of passenger trains but just served small agricultural towns the C&NW Elroy to Sparta.
@@paulbergen9114 I remember being in Morrow, Ohio when the railroad was there. There was a wye right in town and a train station. Its a bike trail now and I used to ride my bike on the trail when I lived in Loveland Ohio
@@JawTooth That’s cool. I live in northern Wisconsin and grew up next to Milwaukee Rd tracks in GB. Now the ELS runs those rails. Love Jason’s videos. Just started following yours. Love em. Thanks again
curve shots are the best because you can one side of train then the train heads directly at you; then as it curves, you get the other side of the train. something about the train barreling at you and then making the turn.
Today abandon railroad report is very good ! Thankyou very much . Japanese railroad is same a condition. But I'm hope grow light tomorrow . Because I'm railroad fan .
Wow, that container train was eliminating z ton of semis on the road. Rock in roll or sasquatch rolling a rock at you. That. Abandoned grain elevators would be fun to explore. Trespassing is illegal.....l.if you get caught. I'd love to get a hold of a piece of that steel rail they make awesome anvils.
Thank you for this additional video on your trip to the Circleville, Ohio area, Jaw Tooth! I enjoyed watching the Norfolk Southern trains that we saw in this video. Thank you for documenting the abandoned spurs that you showed us in this video. From the growth of the trees and shrubs between and around the tracks at the beginning of this video, I would guess that it has been close to 10 years since that industrial spur saw a train on it.
Glad you enjoyed it! There are some more abandoned lines that I am going to film. Tomorrow I am going to film some street running trains if I can get lucky
@Jaw Tooth thought you may like to know the abandoned tracks you were on in the woods used to be part of the Pennsylvania line that ran through there. It was owned by the Cincinnati Muskingum valley railroad before the pennsy took over thought you may like to know that those were the old pennsy tracks
Very cool video. I travel through circleville when I go to the races in Chillicothe Ohio. Just a curious question if a railroad is totally abandon would the souvenirs be free to take or are they still property of the railroad? Like the switch you found? Miss you shoestring 💕.
It's a lotion work to remove them. I've seen track sit abandoned (even not connected) gor decades. I remember as a kid there was a line that hadn't seen a train or even a rail car in close to 70 years, but the track was still there.
I was wondering if that GE Centercab you mentioned was the one that recently came to RI to be refurbished and used on a scenic railway & dinner train, but after locating that spot in Circleville on Google Maps, the satellite picture shows an empty spot where you said the loco was. 😕
I have noticed a lot more open boxcars (usually just one) on many trains since Shoestring died. It is nice to think it is in honor of him. TY for your videos.
If only I had a Time Machine so I could go back and see these spurs in service! Great video! I love it!

Yes those stoppers will stop cars if going 10 or lower mph. If faster it won't stop cars. They will just go over them. Have a great railroad day.🚂🙋♀️
Awesome video again, now everytime I see an open boxcar. Shoestrings boxcars.
You and me both! I think about him all the time
That spur you showed actually was the old Penn Central. It used to cross the Norfolk & Western right at the grade crossing on Court St.
That would have been cool to see it in use back then! I wish I could have seen that
Great pics at the end! Hey maybe since String was still with us at that time it was Sasquatch threw some at you lol..jk!! Neat I hope the "round" place is going to be kept and you can video it. We all like how you do as Shoestring did and teach us about the rails dates names of things etc. You both are my fav train guys.
Thanks 👍 I miss Shoestring. I really wanted to make more videos with him this summer
@@JawTooth I SO wish you could've. We put his missing notice of Johnson City up where I work cuz we have train fans come through. I cried when I heard he was found. We're glad you mention & remember him in your videos!!
Gotta love those, they lead to interesting places! We followed one in Indiana all the way to an abandoned station! The farmers "fielded" it mostly in! 👍👌🤟😃
Very cool!
Very interesting history. Loved the NS train with open door boxcar. Have not seen one open in years.❤ Switches are always amazing to me.😊We believe there were an idiot threw that rock. There's jerks all around pulling pranks in this world. Loved the double stack train.uou have a beautiful place Mr JT. Your pets are so lucky to have all that free space to run. Thanks for the awesome trains ,history and pets. Be blessed.❤😊
Hey JT, awesome video as usual, short freight to a long grain train and education on the tracks 👍👍😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it
The one line was the former Penn Central (PRR) Cincinnati and Muskingum Valley abandoned March 31st, 1976 . N&W picked up the remaining Circleville customers.
Yeah, as a kid in the 60s I remember seeing traffic on that PRR line, and the freight station in use.
Enjoying the look around, thanks JT
Thanks!
Thanks for the history. I always enjoy that. I’ve seen the house and pumpkin tower before. Nice trains. Thanks JT. ❤
Glad you enjoyed!
Good video Jawtooth
Thanks for watching! Two days ago I found rail dated 1898 and still in use
That switch stand you wanted. Although nobody would miss it but to be on the up and up, find out who's land it is, maybe they will let you have it. Just ac thought. Love the seeing old tracks to nowhere and old buildings! Just so groovy. Awesome video Brian stay well roll on.
Good point! I could find out at the tax map office. I don't think I could lift it though lol
Yes the grain elevator years ago was owned by a few companies. It burned down in 2008 and was supposed to be rebuilt, but everything then pretty much moved out of Circleville and so it sits there abandoned.
AT 21:30 the track your standing on was recently used, look at the flange ways and the crushed rock on the rails.
A lot of really cool angles in this video!
Glad you like them!
First track was penn central. It went straight across NS (N&W) and continued east to lancaster.
Great video Brian!
Thanks!
@@JawTooth You're welcome!
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 👍🙏
Thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth 🖐🖐Have a great day! 🙏
Great videosenjoyed them, and the pooches hi chessie❤❤
Thank you! 🤗
That circular house we have one here in Michigan, similar to it. We call it the octagon house.
Love the old rails and spurs. If you wet your thumb and rub it in the raised letters on the rails it’s easier to read. 👍😎
That's a great idea! Yesterday I found rail dated 1898 and still in use on an industrial spur in Ohio
@@JawTooth That’s cool. I live in northern Wisconsin and grew up next to Milwaukee Rd tracks in GB. Now the ELS runs those rails. Love Jason’s videos. Just started following yours. Love em. Thanks again
@@Milwroad4ever Jason came down here a couple years ago and I showed him some of my favourite places to film. thanks for watching my videos
Great work as always JawTooth
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
curve shots are the best because you can one side of train then the train heads directly at you; then as it curves, you get the other side of the train. something about the train barreling at you and then making the turn.
Today abandon railroad report is very good ! Thankyou very much . Japanese railroad is same a condition. But I'm hope grow light tomorrow . Because I'm railroad fan .
Thank you very much! It is sad when they stop using them
Nice work catching them, trains Jaw tooth keep up the good work
Thanks! Will do!
cool stuff
Wow, that container train was eliminating z ton of semis on the road. Rock in roll or sasquatch rolling a rock at you.
That. Abandoned grain elevators would be fun to explore. Trespassing is illegal.....l.if you get caught.
I'd love to get a hold of a piece of that steel rail they make awesome anvils.
As always...👍🙏
Thank you again
You'll need a crane to pickup that switch stand. Don't get a hernia. Another cool video 😎👍!
Good call! At my age I can't afford anymore injuries
Abandoned tracks are common in Saint john. We got one industrial yard that was replaced to be torn up again. just makes you wonder.
Very cool video. I travel through circleville when I go to the races in Chillicothe Ohio.
Just a curious question if a railroad is totally abandon would the souvenirs be free to take or are they still property of the railroad? Like the switch you found?
Miss you shoestring 💕.
Whoever owns the land usually owns the abandoned tracks with exceptions but someone always owns it
I love it when an unused spur gets back in service.
Me too. thanks
It's interesting how the rail companies never bother to remove abandonded tracks and let it sit for years.
It's a lotion work to remove them. I've seen track sit abandoned (even not connected) gor decades. I remember as a kid there was a line that hadn't seen a train or even a rail car in close to 70 years, but the track was still there.
Nice abandoned tracks that cool to find in the woods how is Allan doing and how is your family hope they are ok
Thank you for likeing my comment on the abandoned tracks wooooo
He has trouble walking and sitting since he fell down the stairs
@@JawTooth I hope he gets better so he can walk around shoot video you staying in touch with him
@@StevenWestfall-z5h Yes and I hope he comes up to Pennsylvania in June like he always does. I will stay in contact with him
@@JawTooth so you can talk to stupid orange call in stupid banana
That is called an octagonal house. We have one similar to that on Washington St. Hackettstown, NJ and it is occupied and in great shape. 😎😺🐕🚂🚃🚃🚃✝
Awesome! I saw a barn shaped like that in Indiana
Love the video of the train
I was wondering if that GE Centercab you mentioned was the one that recently came to RI to be refurbished and used on a scenic railway & dinner train, but after locating that spot in Circleville on Google Maps, the satellite picture shows an empty spot where you said the loco was. 😕
very interesting stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it
The Gregg-Crites House in Circleville Ohio. article on Wikipedia. Lots of great info.

😁 I cut my hair just shortly after I started this channel. I donated it to Locks Of Love
That concrete thing you said was actually a bridge for the old traction line.....
Thanks for the info!
