Infiniti Q50 6 Speed Manual Transmission Swap

- 2015 3.7L supercharged Q50 gets a replacement engine and we convert the 7 speed automatic to a 6 speed manual transmission from a 370z. This is not a compressive video and it is not meant to be a step-by-step guide. This overview shows the process I used to remove the old engine/trans combo and transfer the new engine/trans into the car. Below is a quick list of parts I used to swap in a 6MT on the 2014-2017 3.7L Q50. Newer VR Q50s will be similar but the bolt pattern may be different on the bellhousing.

ECU explanation - Ecutek ROMs for the Q50 are supported for 6MT conversion. Consult with your tuner.
Parts I bought :
- 370z 6spd manual transmission.($1,000).
- G37 manual pedals.($80).
- Torque solution billet aluminum 370z trans mount($160).
- G37 coupe trans crossmember($65).
- 370z clutch hard lines ($65).
- Master cylinder ($80).
- Z1 CSC elimination kit ($450)
- Spec dual disk SS trim clutch ($1,230).
- custom 3.5” one piece steel driveshaft($600).
- 3 quarts Motul 75w90 ($60).
- ARP #102-2201 for pressure plate ($18).
- ARP #254-2801 for flywheel ($44).
A general knowledge of mechanics and engine removal is suggested but you can use the FSM (factory service manual). Everything that isn't explained is pretty much bolt up and if modification was required, I explained in the video. Again this is just an overview and your experience may vary. Bro no one wants to drive a manual 24/7 no more, auto with paddle are faster and more efficient and offer best of both worlds. I'll take that anyday instead of changing gears in heavy ass traffic every rush hour.
@@Blassie.P maybe not. 🤷🏿♂️ I prefer switching my own tho. But as in Q50 & the Q60, its transmission is it's only downfall.
@@Blassie.P The problem with the auto though is that in most scenarios it shifts so much slower than a manual. It also cant handle a lot of power without getting so hot. Maybe if the shifts were snappier (like DCT or some ZF's) that'd be one thing, but the 7at in this car is anything but. Trans tunes and vb upgrades help.
I prefer rowing my own gears daily, but that's not the world anymore.
@@artemiscool67 disagrees with view about autos being slower in gear shifts our cars are entry level sports coupes and sedans not a Ferrari, and im not sure what your talking about in terms of hot my Infiniti doesn't have that problem and I haven't heard that in any forums too.
Manual was the only thing holding me from a q50, i knew it could be done annnnnnd you boosted my want for one a whoooooole lot more
6 speed swaps open up so much potential for any car it's crazy, wether it be a 14' q50 or a 6 speed swap v8 Ford Fusion hahaha you got a huge garage btw, so much room for activities lol

Just 6 speed swapped my g37. Only thing I'm having trouble with is my cruise control isnt working. Is there a wire from the tcm plug for cruise control?
Why not just swap a gtr engine and trans? Nissan/Infiniti already did with the eau rogue. The engineers had some trouble but it works and they were able to shoehorn the entire setup into the q50 without any major mods
Jonathan Martinez they used the transmission from the SUV to fit. GTR trans goes in the rear of the vehicle. Best thing to do to go fast is put a DCT with and adapter plate but 6MT is just plain fun

When you cut metal to bare, use gun bluing to stabilize the steel so they don't rust easily. Do that before primer for best result. Similar effect to galvanized steel surface on modern cars.

I honestly didn’t even try it. I do know that the driveshaft you’ll need is 2 in shorter than stock. Whatever you get will need to be a one price because the chance of the carrier bearing being in the same spot would be slim and you’ll want an upgrade either way.

I've heard that you cannot manual swap an awd model cuz it has different subframe than rwd and the gearbox will not fit. Is it true?

Yes. The factory 3.7 was fully built.
What about power steering? Possible to swap to 370Z rack?

@@txboostlife hydraulic pump will have to be mounted or driven by electric motor or something.
Love the video, i did jump that neutral wire like in your video. But When I try driving my g37 the car goes into limp mode. Do I have to change the ecu calibration? Or can jump the shifter Into thinking it’s in neutral or manual mode ?
Have to get the manual rom if not it will go into limp mode without the TCM. Alternatively you can keep the TCM connected somewhere in the car to keep the communication with it and maybe it won’t go into limp mode

Aaron I believe it would have to be converted RWD. A friend of mine did that and had to convert.
