My dad was a lieutenant in Vietnam. He was only interested in getting his troops home safely. They were Texas boys. He actually got them home safely and they showed up to his funeral in 2005. The funniest story was everyone in the squad having to use Campho phenique -a menthol salve-on their balls to combat jock itch from wading into brackish water. Eventually he came to laugh about it. War is hell. But I think my dad was a good leader. His troops loved him. Hoorah!

Are you afraid of dying? Ive heard this question a handful of times on a handful of episodes. THATS a hard question nobody wants to ask, and is necessary? Nobody asks it cuz its not moral and everybody should obviously not want to talk about their death, or how they feel about it. He knows it too, thats why he gets into his 'shy shell' when he asks. Its weird questions. Plus we all know and dont care to know the answers. Its either a "yes", and, well, duh...or "no", and your just a tough guy, who fears to show his fears. Because NO ONE, is not worried about dying and leaving loved ones behind. NO ONE! These interviews are like a 4 year old talking to fully mentally developed intelligent professional KIND people who not once speak their mind about these immature weird questions (not all questions). JRE interview....first question..."are you afraid of dying.....maybe, today?" Its unreal, embarrassing, and makes you want to spit your drink out, all at the same time. I hope one of these times someone speaks their mind about, "What kind of question is this". Put some russian cartoons on kid and grab ya sippy cup.

So love my Seals!! Nice to be introduced to Jocko. Thanks Lex. Just ordered his book Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win. My favorite for decades has been Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior: A Commando's Guide to Success
by Richard Marcinko . I so adore the Warrior side of you, Lex. I was an Army Military Policewoman, SGT, and lived by Marcinko's 10 Commandments as a blueprint for being a good leader. Now I am looking forward to Jocko's wisdom...nice Nuggett

Marcinko was a man that could perhaps be the most influential SEAL of all time. His legacy inspired already great warriors to step it up a notch. Only group of warriors close to the SEALS are the SAS, in fact the are so similar they do joint operations. SAS are animals. I unfortunately have to say in my experience the are tiny bit better than SEALS they are taught to have no restraint whereas the SEALS are often having to fight with ridiculous rules, SAS does not, they are like the Israelis. No rules in war, none.
