15:56: "It's difficult to make a person appreciate freedom when they've never lost theirs."
This is why Jocko's "discipline = freedom" is so powerful to me. I've never been a POW (or in the military), but I was trafficked for 5.5 years as a teenager. I was held captive and, for lack of a better word because I don't know another, tortured. I had no freedom and felt like I was stripped of my humanity because I was treated sub-human for so long.
I ran away at 17, and I used my fierce work ethic to make sure I never HAD to go back home to that place for any reason.
My relentless discipline in all things has given me freedom from my mom and the traffickers, drug addiction, domestic violence situations, homelessness, and extreme poverty.
And my continued discipline after I got out of survival mode has given my kids freedom from everything I had to go through in life because they don't have to experience it. The cycle has been broken.
    That alone is worth it.

@@FieldMarshalRommel23 I would absolutely recommend doing some form of grappling! Unless you are a huge individual, standing up and trading blows almost always favors the person with the longer reach. I’m not a fan of having to knock someone out to subdue them either!

@@Ilwacowrestler I’m 6ft4 and 275lbs and I’m naturally very strong. I found growing up fighting on the streets for me personally, stamina was most important. I’m a natural grappler, I use my size and strength to physically over power the other person and force them down but I have no formal training. As for trading blows, I feel stamina is more important than reach. Reach is useless if your exhausted after twenty seconds and believe me fights are EXHAUSTING. I am so fccking proud to have served with men like this. I wasn't a SEAL, I was just a dirty nasty Air Assault leg, but there are universal truths out there. What Jocko says are among those.
Speaking of selfless service, Jocko, is still serving. He is serving his brothers and sisters and fellow countrymen with his wisdom, his knowledge, his tenacity, his strength. He is the living embodiment of a saying. That saying is; "A candle does not lose its' light by lighting other candles." He is a torch for us all. When I was down and beaten up and recovering from war injuries and surgeries; his words came out of the darkness and called me to run into the fire. That which gives light must endure burning.
Jocko has been there for me and we've never met. His words have guided me through dark times like the voices of my father (who is deceased) or the voices of my ancestors who tell me I have the strength to drive on through the pain. I can't thank Jocko enough.
To the creators of this video; you have captured that essence in this video. I also can't thank you enough for this content. Of all the shht channels out there, this video and this channel shine through like the sun amidst the dark emptiness. Godspeed and goodwill to everyone else. Keep grinding. Keep going. Never quit.

Jocko was among a few that helped keep me alive when I was close to suicide. His words made me realize that I had the strength within me to make the choice to not only live but thrive. The strength to lead by example the principles that I believe in but at the time just couldn't execute them. To get rid of my victim mindset and quit being weak. To be disciplined and focused. Now I wake up at 4:00 am everyday(last 2 years), cold shower, get to the gym by 5-6 am, walk 20,000 steps a day, ride my bike 10-20 miles a day, and then go to work. I do hard shit because I know that not only will it make me stronger physically, but also mentally. This extends to handling what life throws at me. Adversity is a chance to get better. My friends and coworkers think I am crazy lol. But I know what I am doing and I fucking love this shit. Fuck comfort. So thank you Jocko for being an inspiration and leader for humanity🙏🏾🤘🏾

To be truly respected, you lead by example. As a very determined person, I have overcome many obstacles, mental health problems, past trauma and neglect, poverty, homelessness as a child, dyslexia and adhd, learning difficulties, and much more, I now those things, not as negative things that happened, but they were blessings in disguise as these things taught me life isn’t easy, shaped resiliency and determination and I reached every goal I have ever set for myself. Then an accident and spinal injury resulting in surgeries and chronic pain and a multitude of health problems ground me to the ground. It has been difficult to have been once such a vibrant and strong person, have something get the better of me. I’m so disappointed in myself at getting to the point where constant pain and the subsequent decline in my quality of life, left me exhausted and wanting to take my own life. Watching things like this reminds me of the fire that does burn inside, some of us are born with the fire and I know it’s still their, now I just gotta find it again

    18:12 "We talk about ideas."
YES. I've told my clients I don't care to hear their revenue goals. (I've noticed talking about wishful revenue gives people an immediate, short-term dopamine boost that doesn't last, and the ones who focus more on money vs audience are the ones who are less likely to follow through with execution.)
What I care about is what they're going to do to get there and what problems they're solving for their audience. The money will absolutely come if we just solve the right problems for the right people and are consistent with our strategy.
The conversations look different with a curiosity-based approach.

"Does complacency come with age?" If anything, I've gotten MORE determined as I've gotten older because I've tapped into a sense of purpose and meaning, and I know I won't live forever and have a desire to do everything I can to get closer to realizing my purpose (even though I know I'll never arrive).
I understand that people feel beaten down by life, feel lost, and get complacent, though. It's hard out there.
